Presentation by Sandra Smith, Nursing Directorate, NHS England at Maternity and Neonatal Learning System: patient and public involvement in improving maternity services event on Wednesday 5 June at Haydock Park Racecourse.
The document discusses the importance of patient experience feedback in helping to inform choices of hospitals and clinical departments. It suggests encouraging more widespread use of patient experience surveys and real-time feedback to allow patients to rate services. This feedback from patients, carers, families, and staff will help providers be more responsive to patients' needs. The NHS will also need to make innovative use of information available through online services like Patient Opinion to complement feedback.
Commissioners have used Patient Opinion (PO) to provide information to patients, get feedback on their own services, raise issues with other providers, and inform practice-based commissioners and funding decisions. Commissioners could potentially use PO in the future for advocacy of patient/carer voices in the local health economy, assessing provider responsiveness metrics, increasing public understanding of commissioners, and training professionals. The goal is to get 100,000 stories donated to PO each year to help improve services.

The document describes how a clinical commissioning group in Bedfordshire, UK involved service users and carers throughout the process of selecting new providers for mental health and learning disability services. They gathered feedback from stakeholders on what was working well, what needed improving, and what needed changing. Service users and carers then played a central role by informing the strategy, models, and outcomes. The commissioning group trained and prepared stakeholder panels, who met with potential providers and scored them based on their experience. The preferred bidder was selected by consensus of the stakeholder panels. Service users and carers continued their involvement after the selection process.

This document discusses transforming the relationship between patients and the NHS to be more person-centered. It outlines that policies have increasingly focused on personalized care, evidence shows approaches like shared decision making and self-management support can improve outcomes. However, reality still lags rhetoric, with limited patient involvement and coordination of care. Fully engaging patients in their care can improve health, experiences, and outcomes, but cultural and organizational challenges remain. The document calls for prioritizing patient partnerships, reframing engagement as core to the NHS mission, and investing in skills and tools to realize more person-centered health systems.

Overview:
Why is the integration of family planning (FP) and HIV/AIDS services important and how does it relate to the right to health?
What models of service integration are currently being implemented in Kenya?
What are the successes, outcomes and lessons learned from clients and providers in Kenya?
What can you do to advocate for the integration of FP and HIV/AIDS services and halt the feminization of AIDS?
Disclaimer: While this presentation focuses specifically on the integration of family planning services and HIV/AIDS testing and counseling services, it is important to note that this is just one example that falls within a more comprehensive approach to service integration. To address the AIDS epidemic, health systems must integrate HIV/AIDS services for prevention, care and treatment with non-HIV services such as primary care, maternal and child health, and reproductive health services, including family planning. Additionally, HIV/AIDS services should be connected to social and community-based services that address underlying determinants for health such as poverty, unemployment and legal inequalities.

This document discusses a project called "Your Voice Matters" which aims to combine patient experience data with health intelligence to improve integrated care. It describes collecting data through a survey of over 500 patients on their experiences of care. The data shows that many patients are not receiving truly person-centered or coordinated care. The project will analyze this data, identify areas for improvement, and use a co-design process involving patients to influence changes to care delivery and specific programs like those for older persons. The goal is for this framework to enable ongoing input from patients to measure and improve their experiences over time.

Expo is the most significant annual health and social care event in the calendar, uniting more NHS and care leaders, commissioners, clinicians, voluntary sector partners, innovators and media than any other health and care event.
Expo 15 returned to Manchester and was hosted once again by NHS England. Around 5000 people a day from health and care, the voluntary sector, local government, and industry joined together at Manchester Central Convention Centre for two packed days of speakers, workshops, exhibitions and professional development.
This year, Expo was more relevant and engaging than ever before, happening within the first 100 days of the new Government, and almost 12 months after the publication of the NHS Five Year Forward View. It was also a great opportunity to check on and learn from the progress of Greater Manchester as the area prepares to take over a £6 billion devolved health and social care budget, pledging to integrate hospital, community, primary and social care and vastly improve health and well-being.

8 Surprising Reasons To Meditate 40 Minutes A Day That Can Change Your Life.pptxHolistified Wellness
We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.

3. NHS England recommends Maternity Voice Partnerships;
A way of implementing Better Births
with women and their families at the heart.
CHAPTER 4: Co-production with women & families
- Local Maternity System (LMS) to include providers,
commissioners AND service users
- An MVP chairs should be a user rep - they have good
knowledge of local women’s feedback and can be
representative, (not sharing own personal stories)
- MVPs can facilitate co-production with women and their
families
“effective service user co-production. We recommend
establishment of independent formal multidisciplinary
committees, which we call “Maternity Voices Partnerships”
(formerly MSLCs), to influence and share in local decision-
making.”
Guidance for the system
4. How will we know Better Births is
implemented?
“I get cared for by a known
and trusted midwife.”
“I receive care that keeps me
and my baby safe.”
“I choose where, how and
with whom I will birth.”
“I need to know you are safe, you have slept, you feel valued, you have eaten, you have debriefed, you are confident and
competent, you are part of a supportive team, you know and trust your colleagues and they know and trust you, you
know the evidence, you help me understand my options, you respect my decisions. I need to know you care about me.”
5. Hearing the perspectives of those having babies and their
supporters is critical to the NHS providing care which
enhances the experience of pregnancy, birth and the
postnatal period.
Service User Voice = unless we hear the voices
of people who use maternity services, we have a
piece of the puzzle missing, and we must listen
well to the voices we don’t easily hear.
Service User Voice… why listen?
7. • User representatives throughout Better Births
• Maternity Transformation Board representation
