Why Art Is Art Therapy
Art is the activity of creating communicating and expressing important ideas or feelings through
imagination and originality. In a world of imperfections like ours, humans need arts to survive.
Art is a way for people to escape reality and get lost in their own world and fantasies. Arts allow
bringing a person s inner world into the tangible reality. It is a vital part of the society; it improves
communication between individuals and provides opportunities for self expression. Art is a
subjective activity, interpreting these creations depends on a person s own experiences, visionary
thoughts, and associations. It evokes memories and nostalgia and triggers one s emotions and
feelings. Art is a therapy since it can improve the physical and mental health of individuals, helps
them to work out their conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, control behavior,
reduce stress, increase self esteem and self awareness. Arts are... Show more content on

Some people prefer to see arts as just art. Most of the time, individuals go to therapy because
they need somebody to talk to, somebody that will be supportive and understanding, someone
that will provide them with good advice and guidance for their lives. Others might think that art
therapy isn t really effective since not everyone is gifted with an artistic talent. In this case the
process of healing or feeling better will take more time; first the individual has to learn the
desired form of art before starting to use it as a therapy. People may also disagree with the
statement of art being therapeutic because art is just for fun and entertainment it can never lead
to solutions. Arts may provide a way of self expression but it is not a solution oriented method.
The main purpose of therapy is to assure a better well being of a person by resolving their troubles,
something that arts cannot do; it can only be used as a relief method to feel better for a specific

Essay about The Fifth Discipline
The Fifth Discipline
Chapter 11 of Peter Senge s book, The Fifth Discipline, talks about the idea of Shared Vision, and
how this concept has transformed organizations, and individuals working for them, into a cohesive
unit of long term innovative achievement.
Having and transmitting a successful shared vision requires true buy in on the part of the employees
and the organization as a whole, and must foster genuine commitment and active enrollment in
order to bring that organizational vision to a personal level. For shared vision to become a
product of personal vision, each individual must feel it , and be able to see how this vision can be
articulated to promote the long term interests of the company s success, and ... Show more content

The owners and coaches can only do so much to prepare the team for the game, it is up to the team
to be able to mentally and physically execute and be able to win the game. The vision in this
case is coming form the middle so to speak. John Elway isn t the president of the team, but he is
one of the major motivating forces of the ball club. His personal vision started last year when he
wanted to lead his team to and win the Super Bowl for the first time in his career, and at least
sometime before he retired. He accomplished this and already this year he is talking about when
our team is 16 and 0 , like it is definitely going to happen. This team is electric and you can see it
in the way they are all playing. Nobody gives in even a little, even deep into the fourth quarter
where other teams defenses begin to tire. Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, and the whole team are
rallying around this vision and show no signs of letting up, as they go into the last part of the
season, which is usually the most difficult as teams are plagued by injury and mental fatigue. John
Elway is really instrumental in all this as he continually looks forward, articulating his vision, and
setting future goals, both of which are clearly shared by the whole team.
It is just this sort of visionary leadership and team coherence that has intoxicated the whole
organization. They know they must get to 16 and 0, and fulfill the dreams

Comparing shattered Glass And Shattered Glass
In an 2004 article written by Peter Preston, criticizing the film Shattered Glass, the former editor
makes a point stating that the general public is far too busy being distracted by stories
concerning minor celebrities and football stars to be concerned about journalist making up
current affair stories. I do not feel that this is a strong argument, for multiple reasons. This point
seems to make the actions of Glass more acceptable than the movie portrayed it. It says that
people will not care about false stories written by one of your journalists, because they are too
busy. In my eyes, this is brought out the idea of distractions or lies, which could hurt a business

Safe Drinking Water Act Essay
A federal law that was enacted in 1974 to protect contaminated water supplies to the public was
called the Safe Drinking Water Act. Through this law the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)
is given the authority to oversee water suppliers throughout the US and set standards for the
contaminants contained in water supplies. Prior to 1974, State health departments had the principal
duty for monitoring and regulating public consuming water substances. The U.S. Public health
provider supplied oversight till 1970. At that point, EPA assumed the federal regulatory position.
Although, the public health carrier issued protection standards in 1962, simply 14 States had
followed them through 1972. The Safe Drinking WaterAct consists of an... Show more content on

However, they need encountered resistance, typically from the residents they re making an attempt
to help, who believe that if their water is legal it should be safe. Drinking water that doesn t meet a
federal health guideline won t essentially make somebody sick. several contaminants are dangerous
as long as consumed for years. and a few researchers argue that even harmful chemicals, once
consumed at very low doses over long periods, cause few risks. Others argue that the price of
removing minute concentrations of chemicals from water doesn t equal the advantages.
Communities where the drinking water has contained chemicals that are associated with health
risks include Scottsdale, Ariz.; El Paso, Tex., and Reno, Nev. Test results analyzed by The Times
show their drinking water has contained arsenic at concentrations that have been associated with
cancer. But that contamination did not violate the Safe Drinking Water Act(NY Times 2009). More
investment in infrastructure and social control of the principles are going to be necessary to
enhance water quality around the country. The report estimates that so as to considerably update
water infrastructure across the country, as well as substituting pipes containing lead, legislature
disbursement would want to extend to a minimum of $8 billion annually, up from the present $2.3
billion a year. Alternative entities have even larger estimates. The American Water

How Did The Renaissance Start In Italy
The Renaissance was a period of time between the mid fourteenth century and mid sixteenth century
in which art, engineering, architecture, and music flourished, mainly due to engineers and artists.
One of the most debated questions that historians discuss about the Renaissance is why and how
the Renaissance started in Italybecause there are no specific events that started the Renaissance.
Rather, it was a string of events with no clear beginnings except for basic ideas and theories. Wealth
and humanism started the Renaissance in Italy by providing a motive to learn, causing art and
engineering to flourish.
The creation of humanism, influenced by the Italian scholar and poet Francesco Petrarch, helped
set the path of the Renaissance due to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because of his rejection of the medieval ways of thinking, his insistence of using thought and
reason became the basis of humanism. These [humanists] sought out and delved into classical texts
and believed that education could improve not only the individual, but also society (Blackwell). In
general, most Italian humanists wanted to look at the literary and philosophical works of the
ancient Romans and Greeks. The Italian humanists believed that the ancient works were the best
guides for living and, more importantly, learning. From inspecting the ancient world, Italian
humanists could compare their own civilization and give them a basis for which they could form
opinions and criticize their own civilization. Because of that, the method of criticism emerged.
Eventually, most people during the Renaissance reverted to the classical way of thinking. This
impacted people, such as NiccolГІ Machiavelli, who criticized people in their leadership skills. He
also wrote the novel, The Prince, which talks about achieving goals to acquire power and leadership
including the ends justify the means , no matter the cost. Humanism also impacted art because the
main purpose of humanism was to focus more on the human

On Wednesday October 14th at 2:00pm I interviewed Genevieve Schaefer, a Certified

Even though I am not yet sure which program suits me best, since I m also interested in doing a

only a few differences.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not keep track of the data for CPM s but according to the
Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC), most CPM s have a private practice, so
their income is mostly based on the number of births that they attend, where they can charge
anywhere from $2000 $4000 per birth depending on the location. The MEAC also mentions that
your salary can depend on your location, how well you know your community, and how well
you advertise your company. According to salarygenius.com the average starting wage for a
certified professional midwife (CPM) is about $64,000 annually. The wages after a few years are
expected to increase after you gain some experience and you can earn up to about $78,200. Finally,
the top wages after several years on the job is about $92,000. One of the reasons it may be hard to
get exact wages by geographic location might be because currently, CPM s are legalized to practice
in 28 states. In which case I would choose to work in places where it was legal and luckily, Texas is
one of them. If I were to stay in Austin, TX, according to salarygenius.com, I could earn an
average of $105,045. My other option in Texas would be my hometown in El Paso where I could
potentially earn an average of $50,058.

Leadership through Redemption
In Nicholas Lemann s story Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War, it shows a theme of
leadership through the main character of the story, and Adelbert Ames effectively demonstrates the
required traits of a main character and a leader. The book focused on a lot of events that happened
in the Reconstruction era. It tells about both the political characteristics and the social
characteristics that are unraveled throughout the reformation of the South and giving the African

Madama Butterfly Analysis
Italian opera of the 19th century was deeply rooted in national life. Italy was unified under
Victor Emmanuel II in 1859 61, and verismo was the popular form of composing operas at this
time. Verismo, or realism, is a phase of naturalism in literature and music characterized by
projection on stage of fierce passions, violence, and death. Operas of the verismo style paint a
picture of everyday people that were mainly from the middle class, doing extraordinary things. An
example of this is Puccini s Madama Butterfly, which is set in the contemporary world, and deals
with an American sailor and his Japanese bride. The operachallenges the superficially exotic world
of Japan that it inhabits, and ends with a geisha girl committing suicide on stage. In Madama
Butterfly, Puccini blends the musical styles from Italy, Japan, and America to create an opera for all.
While opera was and has been rooted in its own nationality, composers started to include the ideas
of exoticism in their writing. At this time, Japan had closed themselves off from other lands for
about 300 years. When they opened up, westerners were curious about the Japanese culture and
vise versa. Rudolf Dittrich was a teacher of western music at the Tokyo School of Music, Puccini
quotes Dittrich s music many times throughout Madama Butterfly in order to create a hybrid of
Westernized Japanese style . Puccini uses this hybrid style instead of authentic Japanese melodies in
order to accentuate the drama of Butterfly s

Essay on Summary and Analysis of The Pardoner s Tale
Summary and Analysis of The Pardoner s Tale (The Canterbury Tales)
Prologue to the Pardoner s Tale:
The Host thinks that the cause of Virginia s death in the previous tale was her beauty. To counter
the sadness of the tale, the Host suggests that the Pardoner tell a lighter tale. The Pardoner delays,
for he wants to finish his meal, but says that he shall tell a moral tale. He says that he will tell a
tale with this moral: the love of money is the root of all evil. He claims that during his sermons
he shows useless trifles that he passes off as saints relics. He proudly tells about how he defrauds
people who believed they have sinned. He states explicitly that his goal is not to save people from
sin, but to gain money from them. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he is one of the most developed characters, he is the character perhaps most defined by
his profession. The Pardoner has substituted a system of values with a rote performance, which
conforms to his profession, which substitutes a meaningless monetary transaction for penance for
sin. The Pardoner therefore suggests a traditional Vice character who behaves strictly out of the
most impure motives, but where he departs from vice characters, who shamelessly commit
misdeeds for their own pleasure, is that he lacks the necessary amoral quality. The Pardoner is not a
moral man, but he nevertheless has a moral system to which he most certainly does not adhere.
The Pardoner s Tale:
There once lived in Flanders a group of three rioters who did nothing but engage in irresponsible
and sinful behavior. They were blasphemous drunkards who, while in a tavern one night,
witnessed men carrying a corpse to its grave. A boy told the rioters that the dead man was one of
their friends, slain by an unseen thief called Death. They remark that Death has slain thousands, and
vow to slay Death themselves. The three drunken men go off to find Death, but only come across
an ancient man shrouded in robes. He claims that Death will not take him, and says that they can
find Death underneath a nearby oak tree. When they found the tree they only found bushels of gold.

researchers found was guilt appeals can have positive effects on behavioral intentions, notably
donating behavior (2007, p. 729). This suggests that when someone feels guilty, they want to get
rid of the guilt and believe that they can do so through their own actions and help society. Even
though the study is focused on donations, the concept regarding an advertisement s effectiveness
is the same. Donating money is a simple action, since it is sometimes a one time thing people do,
and does impose a burden of time to the donator. Visiting a website is no different because it too
is an action that is only taken once, and is not extremely time consuming. The study also
discovered that children s charities are of high personal importance to the majority of people
(Hibbert et al., 2007). This is related to the Sandy Hook Promise advertisement because when
people see the source of the advertisement, Sandy Hook Promise, they see the organization as one
that affects the

2015 Background Information Clinical decision support system (CDSS) is gaining increased
recognition in healthcare organization. This is due to an increasing recognition that a stronger
CDSS is crucial to achieve a high quality of patients care and safety1,2. CDSS is a class of

The output can also take a number of forms and can be delivered to a number of destinations at any
time before, during or post interaction with the patient4. CDS is most effective when provided at
the time that the physician is formulating her assessment of the patient s condition and is making
ordering decisions2. CDS encompasses a variety of tools to enhance decision making in the clinical
workflow. These tools include computerized alerts and reminders to care providers and patients;
clinical guidelines; condition specific order sets; focused patient data reports and summaries;
documentation templates; diagnostic support, and contextually relevant reference information,
among other tools. Computer assisted decision support is only acceptable when it allows the
physician to override a system provided recommendation and choose an alternative action2. The
most successful decision support intervention makes complying with the suggested action easy. A
brief rationale is generally provided with the recommendation, and complying with the
recommendation is as easy as hitting the Enter key or clicking the mouse. CDSS can vary greatly in
design and function, undergoing a constant evolution of their scope and application4. The majority
of CDS applications operate as components of comprehensive electronic health record systems,

The Effects Of Tension In South Korea
Tension on the Korean Peninsula is almost tangible due to the North Korean threats of nuclear war.
Additionally, many in South Korea reportedly lament the state of socioeconomic inequality in the
country, a broad assortment of barriers. With all these and other pressures on Koreans today,
citizens have been finding innovative ways to channel their frustration and relieve some of their
stress. It s called the Seoul Rage Room, and it s a place people come simply to smash mostly

Social Revolutions Lead to Political Reform: How the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific
Revolution Led to a more Secular and Democratic Political Atmosphere. Since the beginning of
time cultural views have influenced and shaped our society but never has more change occurred
than during the Renaissance, Reformation, and Scientific Revolution. We leave the middle ages a
society of Kings and feudal life and emerge with the beginnings of modern political theory. The
Renaissance was a defining moment in history where old became new and ideas on science, nature,
and education flowed like a rushing river. The impact on authority was great and lasting in its

The two understood citizens rights as well as Parliament s power, effectively becoming an excellent
example of a limited monarchy with consent of the people (Matthews, Platt, 387). This learning led
to the Constitution of the United States and a more secular and democratic political atmosphere in
general.
The English historian Herbert Butterfield once wrote:
The revolution in science overturned the authority in not only
of the Middle Ages but of the ancient world it ended not only
in the eclipse of scholastic philosophy but in the destruction of
Aristotelian physics. The scientific revolution outshines
everything since the rise of Christianity and reduces the
Renaissance and Reformation to the rank of mere episodes,
mere internal displacements within the system of medieval
Christianity. (Scientific Revolution, 6) This may be true however, as Newton said so eloquently, If
I have seen further it is because I have stood on the shoulders of giants. (Scientific Revolution, 7)
Without the inquisitive spirit and energy of the Renaissance, or the reglious examination of the
Reformation, the Scientific Revolution may never have had its beginning. Only in the last fifty
years has the western world seen as much political, cultural and scientific change. The 1960 s social

Health Care Problems That Affect The Elderly Essay
The purpose of this paper is to consider the health care problems that causes hindrance to
fulfilled health care needs for the elderly and to investigate health inequality and the cost of
health care that affects the elderly. Most senior citizens in America lack access to health care.
Some of the primary hindrances to access are immobilize, inadequate transport system, and
poverty. The inaccessible health care results in increased medical effects, mortality rates,
increased medical costs, and additional pressure to the future nurses. The elderly is among the
minority groups that have been affected by health disparities in the U.S. Even those the health
care system has undergone significant reforms over the year s health care access to the elderly is
still below projections and needs improvement. Healthcare Problems that Affect the Elderly
Americans currently live longer than in the past years. This is due to medical developments that
have heightened the life expectancy from under fifty years to at least seventy six years.
Furthermore, the health advances have significantly enhanced the entire medical sector in
America. However, because of increased life expectancy among the citizens, the old generations
are prone to frequent illnesses and disabilities (Social Workers, 2007). The increased elderly
population faces various barriers to medical care because of reduced nurses population. Based on
the American Medical report, a quarter of the older people lack

Separation of Powers in the Commowealth
This doctrine was formulated by French philosopher Montesquieu who theorized that abuse of
powers by the three branches would be checked through separating the branches functionally and
physically. This means no branch should perform function of the other and no person can hold
office simultaneously in the branches.
However, there are instances where state courts have influences from the decisions of cases in the
Commonwealth courts. In the ruling made in the case Kable v Director of public prosecution1996
189 CLR51.This case forbid states court exceeding federal jurisdiction. Therefore, State Supreme
courts rely on decisions of federal courts and vice versa (Harris, 2013).
In the separation of powers there is the doctrine that courts cannot be vested with non judicial
power and federal judicial powers cannot be vested in a state court. It goes that if a court
exercises non judicial power, then separation of powers will be violated. The states do not have
explicit separation of powers in their respective constitutions. Parliament is able to vest judicial
federal powers with non judicial powers so long as they do not undermine their integrity. States
courts can still exercise their independence since they have some discretion in some matters.
Looking at the separation of powers in States such as Queensland, there are unique features.
Commonwealth Constitution confers separation of powers but States do not have constitutional
separation of powers. Influence of executive on

Character Analysis: Give your ideas about the main characters(s). Include what you like and dislike
about the characters and why they deserve praise or criticism. Does the author intend for you to
like/dislike them? How do you know?
Victor Frankenstein: Victor Frankenstein, is the protagonist who describes his life to Robert

displayed as he is determined and dedicated to his work that when he starts to work on a creation.
Therefore, he moves away from his family as he segregates himself from the society. He continues

This leads to Justine being accused for the murder and is forced to death by the government. I
believe Mary Shelley intends the reader to dislike Victor because of the wrongful actions he takes.
Firstly, when Victor creates the monster, he becomes scared and terrified due to the monster s
physical appearance as result he abandoned it. I noticed that Victor essentially judged the monster
by it s looks rather than the monster s personality. Alongside the other unfair and uneducated
thoughts, the author convinced me that Victor Frankenstein is a hated character.
The Monster: The monster is another main character in the novel as he his creator and the society
judge him based on his physical appearance. The monster shares similar personality traits that I
like and dislike about Victor. I liked that the monster is helpful and friendly to others especially
the De Lacy family. He used to steal their food however he realized that the family faces poverty
and decides to condense their adversity. He beings the father wood during the night and leave it
in front of the door. I also like the fact that he develops his knowledge based on human s actions
and words. For example, he learns the names of each member apart of De Lacy family; Felix and
Agatha. He shows interest to improve his intelligence by reading books and through the
conversations between the De Lacy family. I like his fortitude to confront his creator about his
humanity since his creator ran away from him. Furthermore, I

History Of Agroecology Vs. Industrial Farming
In this paper I will argue that the natural=good idea provides good guidance for other environmental
issues, other than GM products and ecosystem management, by utilizing the example of
Agroecology vs. Industrial farming. Natural can be defined as anything that has been produced by
nature and not made or altered by humankind in any way. The natural=good idea argues that
anything that is produced, preserved, protected, and so on, in natural ways or with naturally
occurring products is the better alternative to something that was done artificially or human made.
The natural=good idea can be used when arguing in favor of Agroecology over Industrial farming,
because Agroecology is natural, more sustainable and overall healthier for the environment than
Industrial farming. The natural=good idea guides some people s thinking when looking over
environmental policies and ethics. The idea is that natural, regularly occurring things and processes
in nature, unaltered by man, are good and should be used. The opposition is that man made and
unnatural processes, products, etc. are therefore bad because they are not naturally occurring.
Helena Siipi shows this idea that natural=good when discussing her ideas for ecosystem
management strategies. She states that there are three management methods, preservation,
restoration, and engineering. Preservation is not modifying the ecosystems, areas, or objects but
rather simply protecting them. Restoration is to alter the

James Bond Influence On American Films
Cinematically, Bond has been a major influence within the spy genre since the release of Dr. No
in 1962,[190] with 22 secret agent films released in 1966 alone attempting to capitalise on the
Bond franchise s popularity and success.[191] The first parody was the 1964 film Carry On

against the portrayal of Bond was the Harry Palmer series, whose first film, The Ipcress File was

Imoinda is the only female character that receives some attention from the narrator. Imoinda is
Oroonoko s lover and eventually his wife. She has very little power in the narrative since she is
part of two repressed groups (slave and woman) (Ibbotson). She is praised by the narrator for her
beauty and her loyalty. These are the traits that make her special but also responsible for the fact
that she has little influence over what happens to her. Beauty makes her desirable for men
regardless of whether she wants them to fall in lovewith her or not. This can be seen in the old

Audiences are encouraged to adapt completely to this style in order for the comic lines and/or

movement or speech (Meisel, 1983). *
Edwards genius at creating a logically evolving chaos and building laughter through long
stretches of farcical sostenuto (1981, p.26) is what sets him apart from other directors of the time,
yet is respected as being apart of the few who were to be considered apart of the pantheon of
directors (1973, p50).
The ideology of Hollywood surrounding S.O.B was Blake Edwards intentions to assault the motion
picture industry as thanks for the excessive disputes between studio executives and himself in order
to maintain Hollywood success (1981, p39).
Within the chapter of Authorship, James Naremore notes that authors are written by a series of
historical, social and cultural determinants (1999, p22), which can be said to easily differentiate
films precisely from one another.
We see a paradoxical linkage to some of these determinants in each of Edwards films.

The initial plan started with ordering a CBC, CMP, amylase and lipase STAT. These are all
standard labs that help to rule out gallbladder pathology as well as our other differential
diagnoses. Her vital signs were stable and the physical exam revealed only moderate TTP of the
RUQ and epigastric region. The lab results revealed no leukocytosis, no elevation of liver
enzymes, bilirubin, amylase, lipase, alk phos or any other signs of cholecystitis, cholangitis,
pancreatitis or other potential signs of infection. The plan of care began with keeping the patient
NPO. This is recommended as this keeps the patient from further pain secondary to food
stimulating gallbladder contraction.5 It also allows the patient to be prepared for surgery if
urgent cholecystectomy is required. The next step was beginning IV normal saline to keep her
well hydrated. After this we began to give her medication through the IV including Zofran for her
nausea. Zofran is an effective anti emetic and there were no contraindications for use in this
patient. We also gave her Morphine 2 mg IV for pain control. Opioids are an effective option for a
patient with significant biliary colic.6 Although NSAIDS are another option for pain control, PUD
was part of the differential diagnosis so NSAIDS were not an appropriate therapy. We ordered an
abdominal ultrasound as this is the diagnostic test of choice for cholelithiasis. The ultrasound
revealed multiple gallstones in the gallbladder, some mild gallbladder thickening, and some
dilatation of the common bile duct. At this point we consulted GI who scheduled the patient for
MRCP in the morning in order rule out choledocholithiaisis. We also consulted the surgery team
who admitted the patient. The stated they would likely plan for laparoscopic

Analysis Of Rick Blain And His Internal Conflict
Analysis of Rick Blain and His Internal Conflict From the audience s perspective, Casablanca
(Michael Curtiz, 1942) is a romantic drama. The scene where Rick Blaine, the lead male, is at
the bar after seeing Ilsa Lund, his former lover, is the most dramatic moment in the film. The
audience first sees Rick alone at the bar drinking. Sam walks in the bar and has a powerful
conversation with Rick. The moment that these two characters share is dramatic because the
audience is getting to see a side of Rick that hasn t been seen yet. The audience is used to seeing
Rick as the perfect man. After he sees Ilsa, he breaks down, which is indicated by his heavy
drinking, showing that he has a weakness. The cinematography helps show the dynamic change
in Rick. The shot distance allows the audience to see Rick s facial expressions. Although Rick is
seen as strong and independent, when he is reunited with Ilsa, he is drawn into a darkness that
he is struggling with in the scene; it is easy to see the struggle of man vs. himself and the
concept of masculinity. In this scene we see Rick in a vulnerable state after having seen Ilsa for
the first time in a year. The camera shot is varied from close ups to medium long shots. When a
close up is used the audience can see the emotions on Rick s face more clearly. He is burdened
with memories of the past. This breaks with the idea of masculinity because the audience can
clearly see that Rick is in distress. Men are burdened with social norms that

Service Learning Reflection
According to Kathleen Flecky and Lynn Gitlow, service learning is defined as, learning that occurs
in experiences, reflection, and civic engagement (Flecky Gitlow, 2011). In recent years more
universities are implementing service learning into their curriculum. A key concept of service
learning is civic responsibility. Civic responsibility can simply be defined as your responsibilities
as a citizen. As will be shown later in this paper, service learning can have many benefits not only to
a student, but also to the community members
I personally believe that service learning is a great thing for many reasons. One of the biggest
reasons is that service learning can give you great exposure to having face to face interaction which
I think millennials try to avoid. Another reason that service learning is a great thing is that it can
teach some people about how to be more compassionate as well as helping students understand their
civic responsibilities as young adults. As stated by Flecky Gitlow (2011), a unique aspect of service
learning is that it incorporates structured opportunities for students, faculty and community partners
to reflect on their interactions and activities in light of both educational and community objectives.
(p. 1 2). My interpretation of this quote is that the authors view service learning in a positive light.
My understanding is that the authors believe by students reflecting on their interactions with the
community, it can help further their

Does Economic Globalization Affect Interstate Military...
DOES ECONOMIC GLOBALIZATION AFFECT INTERSTATE MILITARY CONFLICT?
I
Although there is still not agreement on a common definition of this phenomenon, in this paper I
will accept the one developed by R.M. Joshi (2009). He identifies, indeed, Economic Globalization
as the increasing economic integration and interdependence of national, regional and local
economies across the world through an intensification of cross border movement of goods, services,
technologies and capital
There are two good reasons, in my opinion to accept Prof. Joshi s definition. First, it contains two
core point affecting every aspect of that phenomena: Interdependence and Cross border
movements. Second, it focuses on the interaction among markets avoiding approximate
expression often used in public debate as Global Economy and Global Market that could mislead
the reader, where national states still play an important role in Economies destinies, many people
are not involved in economy, some markets still operate on a local level, transnational corporations
are anyway nationally based and we can not (still) talk about a global labour market. (Aspers and
Kohl 2011).

The one among trade and peace is an old story. Yet in the XVII century Montesquieu (1758) wrote
Peace is the natural effect of trade. Two nations who traffic with each other become reciprocally
dependent . Another giant of that time, Immanuel Kant (1795), seems to share this point of view in
his Essay on Perpetual Peace.

The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management
The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few
centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with
its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to
standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it
further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many
researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the
Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s
relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969).
Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups
instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers
prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa,
2013).
According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in
all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even
avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation
dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still
earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto,

East Verde River Case Study
Below the Mogollon Rim near Payson runs the East Verde River, a waterway that is
supplemented with discharge of water collected on The Rim at CC. Cragin Reservoir. According
to Clay Thompson of the Arizona Republic, the area gets its name from the mechanization of the
water s power through a metal water wheel fashioned from milk cans that was used by gold miner
James Dave Greer to crush ore and supply a sluice box with water.
The United States Geological Survey pinpoints the waterway s rate of flow at Camp Verde,
Arizona, 60 some miles down the canyon. Median flow for June 1 hovers at 82 feet per second,
though the canyon that guides it can become a raging torrent, once funneling 481 cubic feet per
second through its rocky shoals on June 1 of 1992. Fortunately, our visit to the popular recreation
area was marked with a serene 63 cubic feet per second chattering down the river. ... Show more

The Techniques Used in American Beauty Essay
The п¬Ѓlm American Beauty, directed by Sam Mendes is a п¬Ѓlm about imprisonment and escape
from imprisonment (Mendes, 1999). American Beauty explores the breakdown of a suburban
family man whose life journeys from self loathing and emptiness to freedom and liberation but at
the ultimate cost of his life. Mendes effectively employs a range of techniques to help convey the
meaning of this п¬Ѓlm such as set design, camera angles, colour and soundtrack.
Cinema often uses structured set design and camera angles to convey meaning to an audience.
Throughout American Beauty, MendesКј use of set design and camera angles have been carefully
structured to emphathise the п¬ЃlmКјs theme of imprisonment. In the opening scene the
audienceКјs introduction to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Interestingly, as the п¬Ѓlm progresses and LesterКјs relationships evolve, the camera angles also
evolve in reverse and the audience begins to see Lester shot in a low angle and characters like
Carolyn are shot in a high angle, indicating that Carolyn is now vulnerable. These altered camera
angles give Lester a triumphant image.
Another technique Mendes uses is colour. The use of colour is often an important technique utilised
by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes
powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their
imprisonment. Initially the characters are seen in environments that are very dull and nondescript,
as Mendes (1999) states when referring to LesterКјs work setting. As LesterКјs quest for
escapement gains momentum, the vivid colour of red is gradually introduced more into this п¬Ѓlm
through subtle furnishings in the Burnham house and particularly integrated with LesterКјs sexual
fantasies. The use of the vibrant, red rose petal is п¬Ѓrst introduced when Lester and Carolyn
attend JaneКјs cheer performance, where Lester loses himself as he enters his п¬Ѓrst tunnel of
fantasy (Mendes, 1999). Deschler (1999) states the rose is symbolic of American beauty, and the
colour red symbolises passion and love. The significance of the rose petal and the colour red is
repeatedly seen throughout the п¬Ѓlm in house furnishings such as a bouquet of

Causes and Effects of the Persian Gulf War Essay
Causes and Effects of the Persian Gulf War
The Persian Gulf War, often referred to as Operation Desert Storm, was perhaps one of the most
successful war campaigns in the history of warfare. Saddam Hussein, leader of Iraq, invaded
Kuwait in 1990. In 1991, after weeks of air strikes, US ground forces entered Iraq and Kuwait and
eliminated Iraqi presence in 60 hours.
Why Would Iraq invade Kuwait?
Kuwait supplies much of the world s oil supplies, and when Hussein invaded Kuwait, he
controlled 24% of the world s oil supplies (O Hara). Though this is a good reason, it is not the
only one. Iraq s real excuse for annexing Kuwait was that he believed that Kuwait was producing
more oil than it was supposed to, taking out of Iraq s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just before the United States began air strikes over Iraq, Hussein decided to test his new weapon
on the city of Iraq. Little damage was caused, but it just was another excuse for the United States to
attack (NSA).
What happened after the Persian Gulf War?
Because the world would not look the other way...tonight, Kuwait is free. Those were the words of
President Bush after the end of Operation Desert Storm. Though free, Kuwait was a war torn
country. While Iraqi troops were retreating, they set fire to many of the Kuwait oil fields causing
a constant blaze. Along with a defeat, Iraq has to accept strict cease fire terms set on by the UN.
They include No Fly Zones on the north and south borders of Iraq, frequent military inspections,
destroy all chemical and ballistic missiles in its possession, and stop any nuclear weapons programs
(Brown).
Though only about 367 Americans died in this war, about 160 of them were from friendly fire,
which is when someone is killed by their own country on accident. This is because of the new
high tech weapons where at times, only infrared light can be read, making it impossible to
decipher which is friend or foe (Friendly Fire).
After the war, many of the soldiers who fought developed what is known as Gulf War Syndrome.
Speculation is that the cause may be chemical or biological weapons used, but nothing has ever
been confirmed (Brown).

Theme Of Tikki Maurii
The theme of Rikki Tikki Tavi is putting others in front of yourself, meaning that you care about
them more than you care about yourself. It is almost like the golden rule, do unto others as you
would have them done onto you. This is recurring theme from Rikki Tikki Tavi, the mongoose

Tikki has gone out of his way to help others despite them not doing anything in return. From saving
the life of Teddy, to saving everyone living in the bungalow.

himself to kill Nag and held tightly as he was being banged against the walls while Nag was
trying to get rid of Rikki Tikki. He braced for death, but all that came was Nag s death. The brave
mongoose even saved the lives of the family as a whole. He saved them when Nagaina was
threatening to kill the whole family if they did not move or if they did she would also kill them.
Rikki Tikki had come with one egg in his mouth to bargain with Nagaina about not killing the
family. He fought Nagaina, and chased her away from the table where Teddy s family was eating.
He ricked being killed by Nagaina when he went to down a hole. Mongooses that are young are
known not to survive this event, yet Rikki Tikki did. He risked a very sad death for the sake of the
family.
Rikki Tikki basically saved all of the creatures from the bungalow from Nag and Nagaina. Rikki
Tikki wanted the bungalow free of snakes, just like a mongoose would have it. He did the favor
the birds asked him to help them with and stayed with the plan the whole time. He stayed even
though the one snake problem ended up being a much bigger snake problem. He did the family
a favor back in exchange for them saving his life, Rikki Tikki saved them as well. In fact he did
the whole bungalow a favor for killing the snakes, the text mentioned it on page 243, that the birds
were singing and the frogs were croaking.

Analysis Of Catfish And Mandala By Andrew X
Sudden Exposure to the World
Catfish and Mandala is a narrative by Andrew X. Pham, representing his bicycle tour of Vietnam,
with his childhood memories of the place. The book characterizes the author s younger life in the
country, until when he later moved to America with his family. Upon moving to America, he
encountered a veteran of the Vietnam War, and it was the veteran s disturbed emotional state that
prompted Andrew to make various observations, among them, is the role of culture in people s life.
He set to establish the differences between the American and Vietnam cultures, which to him were
conflicting and he felt lost in between the two places (Pham 6).

He realized that it would be quite difficult to reconcile his Vietnam past with his American present.
Andrew was faced with culture shock, which is a feeling of being disoriented, lonely, and anxious
when one is suddenly subjected to an unfamiliar culture, set of attitudes, or way of life (Wanning
294).
Pederson (7) explains that there are stages of culture shock, which he identifies as the honeymoon,
negotiation, adjustment, and adaptation. In the honeymoon phase, a person is likely to get excited
about being in a new place, meeting new people, tasting new foods, and acquiring new habits.
However, as time passes by, they get into a phase of negotiation, where the differences between the
culture one is used to and the one they find themselves in start to become apparent. Feelings of
anxiety, anger, and frustrations start to take shape as unfavorable events perceived as strange
come in the way of the person s life, especially if a person does not feel accepted in the new
culture (Mukherjee 273). Loneliness may set in, and the urge to go back to the familiar culture
strongly comes into play. However, as time goes by, adjustment sets in, usually within six to twelve
months, and one gets accustomed to the culture and also comes up with a routine. By this phase,
one knows what is expected of them, and life once again becomes normal.

Madonna Long Neck
Sometimes in the art world using similar subjects can result in very different works. Such an
example of this is in the tale of the two Madonna s. The first Madonna is by the Italian High

piece is oil on panel and currently is on display at the national gallery of art in Washington D.C.
Nobody is positive why the piece was originally painted but at that time period it was common to

  • 2. Why Art Is Art Therapy Art is the activity of creating communicating and expressing important ideas or feelings through imagination and originality. In a world of imperfections like ours, humans need arts to survive. Art is a way for people to escape reality and get lost in their own world and fantasies. Arts allow bringing a person s inner world into the tangible reality. It is a vital part of the society; it improves communication between individuals and provides opportunities for self expression. Art is a subjective activity, interpreting these creations depends on a person s own experiences, visionary thoughts, and associations. It evokes memories and nostalgia and triggers one s emotions and feelings. Art is a therapy since it can improve the physical and mental health of individuals, helps them to work out their conflicts and problems, develop interpersonal skills, control behavior, reduce stress, increase self esteem and self awareness. Arts are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people prefer to see arts as just art. Most of the time, individuals go to therapy because they need somebody to talk to, somebody that will be supportive and understanding, someone that will provide them with good advice and guidance for their lives. Others might think that art therapy isn t really effective since not everyone is gifted with an artistic talent. In this case the process of healing or feeling better will take more time; first the individual has to learn the desired form of art before starting to use it as a therapy. People may also disagree with the statement of art being therapeutic because art is just for fun and entertainment it can never lead to solutions. Arts may provide a way of self expression but it is not a solution oriented method. The main purpose of therapy is to assure a better well being of a person by resolving their troubles, something that arts cannot do; it can only be used as a relief method to feel better for a specific period of ... • 3. Essay about The Fifth Discipline The Fifth Discipline Chapter 11 of Peter Senge s book, The Fifth Discipline, talks about the idea of Shared Vision, and how this concept has transformed organizations, and individuals working for them, into a cohesive unit of long term innovative achievement. Having and transmitting a successful shared vision requires true buy in on the part of the employees and the organization as a whole, and must foster genuine commitment and active enrollment in order to bring that organizational vision to a personal level. For shared vision to become a product of personal vision, each individual must feel it , and be able to see how this vision can be articulated to promote the long term interests of the company s success, and ... The owners and coaches can only do so much to prepare the team for the game, it is up to the team to be able to mentally and physically execute and be able to win the game. The vision in this case is coming form the middle so to speak. John Elway isn t the president of the team, but he is one of the major motivating forces of the ball club. His personal vision started last year when he wanted to lead his team to and win the Super Bowl for the first time in his career, and at least sometime before he retired. He accomplished this and already this year he is talking about when our team is 16 and 0 , like it is definitely going to happen. This team is electric and you can see it in the way they are all playing. Nobody gives in even a little, even deep into the fourth quarter where other teams defenses begin to tire. Terrell Davis, Shannon Sharpe, and the whole team are rallying around this vision and show no signs of letting up, as they go into the last part of the season, which is usually the most difficult as teams are plagued by injury and mental fatigue. John Elway is really instrumental in all this as he continually looks forward, articulating his vision, and setting future goals, both of which are clearly shared by the whole team. It is just this sort of visionary leadership and team coherence that has intoxicated the whole organization. They know they must get to 16 and 0, and fulfill the dreams ... Comparing shattered Glass And Shattered Glass In an 2004 article written by Peter Preston, criticizing the film Shattered Glass, the former editor makes a point stating that the general public is far too busy being distracted by stories concerning minor celebrities and football stars to be concerned about journalist making up current affair stories. I do not feel that this is a strong argument, for multiple reasons. This point seems to make the actions of Glass more acceptable than the movie portrayed it. It says that people will not care about false stories written by one of your journalists, because they are too busy. In my eyes, this is brought out the idea of distractions or lies, which could hurt a business more? A distraction and a lie are so different, and a lie, or twisting ... From inspecting the ancient world, Italian humanists could compare their own civilization and give them a basis for which they could form opinions and criticize their own civilization. Genevieve is the business owner of Sister s Midwife, a homebirth midwifery practice in Central Texas. Even though I am not yet sure which program suits me best, since I m also interested in doing a certified nursing midwife program, the information she gave me about CPM is quite similar, with only a few differences. The Bureau of Labor Statistics does not keep track of the data for CPM s but according to the Midwifery Education Accreditation Council (MEAC), most CPM s have a private practice, so their income is mostly based on the number of births that they attend, where they can charge anywhere from $2000 $4000 per birth depending on the location. The MEAC also mentions that your salary can depend on your location, how well you know your community, and how well you advertise your company. According to salarygenius.com the average starting wage for a certified professional midwife (CPM) is about $64,000 annually. The wages after a few years are expected to increase after you gain some experience and you can earn up to about $78,200. Finally, the top wages after several years on the job is about $92,000. One of the reasons it may be hard to get exact wages by geographic location might be because currently, CPM s are legalized to practice in 28 states. In which case I would choose to work in places where it was legal and luckily, Texas is one of them. If I were to stay in Austin, TX, according to salarygenius.com, I could earn an average of $105,045. My other option in Texas would be my hometown in El Paso where I could potentially earn an average of $50,058. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 18. Madama Butterfly Analysis Italian opera of the 19th century was deeply rooted in national life. Italy was unified under Victor Emmanuel II in 1859 61, and verismo was the popular form of composing operas at this time. Verismo, or realism, is a phase of naturalism in literature and music characterized by projection on stage of fierce passions, violence, and death. Operas of the verismo style paint a picture of everyday people that were mainly from the middle class, doing extraordinary things. An example of this is Puccini s Madama Butterfly, which is set in the contemporary world, and deals with an American sailor and his Japanese bride. The operachallenges the superficially exotic world of Japan that it inhabits, and ends with a geisha girl committing suicide on stage. In Madama Butterfly, Puccini blends the musical styles from Italy, Japan, and America to create an opera for all. While opera was and has been rooted in its own nationality, composers started to include the ideas of exoticism in their writing. At this time, Japan had closed themselves off from other lands for about 300 years. When they opened up, westerners were curious about the Japanese culture and vise versa. Rudolf Dittrich was a teacher of western music at the Tokyo School of Music, Puccini quotes Dittrich s music many times throughout Madama Butterfly in order to create a hybrid of Westernized Japanese style . He says that he will tell a tale with this moral: the love of money is the root of all evil. He claims that during his sermons he shows useless trifles that he passes off as saints relics. The Pardoner has substituted a system of values with a rote performance, which conforms to his profession, which substitutes a meaningless monetary transaction for penance for sin. The Pardoner therefore suggests a traditional Vice character who behaves strictly out of the most impure motives, but where he departs from vice characters, who shamelessly commit misdeeds for their own pleasure, is that he lacks the necessary amoral quality. The Pardoner is not a moral man, but he nevertheless has a moral system to which he most certainly does not adhere. The Pardoner s Tale: There once lived in Flanders a group of three rioters who did nothing but engage in irresponsible and sinful behavior. They were blasphemous drunkards who, while in a tavern one night, witnessed men carrying a corpse to its grave. A boy told the rioters that the dead man was one of their friends, slain by an unseen thief called Death. They remark that Death has slain thousands, and vow to slay Death themselves. The three drunken men go off to find Death, but only come across an ancient man shrouded in robes. What the researchers found was guilt appeals can have positive effects on behavioral intentions, notably donating behavior (2007, p. 729). This suggests that when someone feels guilty, they want to get rid of the guilt and believe that they can do so through their own actions and help society. Even though the study is focused on donations, the concept regarding an advertisement s effectiveness is the same. Donating money is a simple action, since it is sometimes a one time thing people do, and does impose a burden of time to the donator. However, there are instances where state courts have influences from the decisions of cases in the Commonwealth courts. In the ruling made in the case Kable v Director of public prosecution1996 189 CLR51.This case forbid states court exceeding federal jurisdiction. Therefore, State Supreme courts rely on decisions of federal courts and vice versa (Harris, 2013). In the separation of powers there is the doctrine that courts cannot be vested with non judicial power and federal judicial powers cannot be vested in a state court. It goes that if a court exercises non judicial power, then separation of powers will be violated. The states do not have explicit separation of powers in their respective constitutions. Parliament is able to vest judicial federal powers with non judicial powers so long as they do not undermine their integrity. I noticed that Victor essentially judged the monster by it s looks rather than the monster s personality. Alongside the other unfair and uneducated thoughts, the author convinced me that Victor Frankenstein is a hated character. The Monster: The monster is another main character in the novel as he his creator and the society judge him based on his physical appearance. He used to steal their food however he realized that the family faces poverty and decides to condense their adversity. He beings the father wood during the night and leave it in front of the door. I also like the fact that he develops his knowledge based on human s actions and words. For example, he learns the names of each member apart of De Lacy family; Felix and Agatha. • 34. History Of Agroecology Vs. Industrial Farming In this paper I will argue that the natural=good idea provides good guidance for other environmental issues, other than GM products and ecosystem management, by utilizing the example of Agroecology vs. Industrial farming. Natural can be defined as anything that has been produced by nature and not made or altered by humankind in any way. The natural=good idea argues that anything that is produced, preserved, protected, and so on, in natural ways or with naturally occurring products is the better alternative to something that was done artificially or human made. The natural=good idea can be used when arguing in favor of Agroecology over Industrial farming, because Agroecology is natural, more sustainable and overall healthier for the environment than Industrial farming. The natural=good idea guides some people s thinking when looking over environmental policies and ethics. The idea is that natural, regularly occurring things and processes in nature, unaltered by man, are good and should be used. The opposition is that man made and unnatural processes, products, etc. are therefore bad because they are not naturally occurring. Helena Siipi shows this idea that natural=good when discussing her ideas for ecosystem management strategies. She states that there are three management methods, preservation, restoration, and engineering. Preservation is not modifying the ecosystems, areas, or objects but rather simply protecting them. Restoration is to alter the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. Analysis Of Rick Blain And His Internal Conflict Analysis of Rick Blain and His Internal Conflict From the audience s perspective, Casablanca (Michael Curtiz, 1942) is a romantic drama. The scene where Rick Blaine, the lead male, is at the bar after seeing Ilsa Lund, his former lover, is the most dramatic moment in the film. The audience first sees Rick alone at the bar drinking. Sam walks in the bar and has a powerful conversation with Rick. The moment that these two characters share is dramatic because the audience is getting to see a side of Rick that hasn t been seen yet. The audience is used to seeing Rick as the perfect man. After he sees Ilsa, he breaks down, which is indicated by his heavy drinking, showing that he has a weakness. The cinematography helps show the dynamic change in Rick. The shot distance allows the audience to see Rick s facial expressions. Although Rick is seen as strong and independent, when he is reunited with Ilsa, he is drawn into a darkness that he is struggling with in the scene; it is easy to see the struggle of man vs. himself and the concept of masculinity. In this scene we see Rick in a vulnerable state after having seen Ilsa for the first time in a year. The camera shot is varied from close ups to medium long shots. When a close up is used the audience can see the emotions on Rick s face more clearly. He is burdened with memories of the past. This breaks with the idea of masculinity because the audience can clearly see that Rick is in distress. Men are burdened with social norms that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Service Learning Reflection According to Kathleen Flecky and Lynn Gitlow, service learning is defined as, learning that occurs in experiences, reflection, and civic engagement (Flecky Gitlow, 2011). In recent years more universities are implementing service learning into their curriculum. A key concept of service learning is civic responsibility. Civic responsibility can simply be defined as your responsibilities as a citizen. As will be shown later in this paper, service learning can have many benefits not only to a student, but also to the community members I personally believe that service learning is a great thing for many reasons. One of the biggest reasons is that service learning can give you great exposure to having face to face interaction which I think millennials try to avoid. Another reason that service learning is a great thing is that it can teach some people about how to be more compassionate as well as helping students understand their civic responsibilities as young adults. As stated by Flecky Gitlow (2011), a unique aspect of service learning is that it incorporates structured opportunities for students, faculty and community partners to reflect on their interactions and activities in light of both educational and community objectives. (p. 1 2). My interpretation of this quote is that the authors view service learning in a positive light. I Although there is still not agreement on a common definition of this phenomenon, in this paper I will accept the one developed by R.M. Joshi (2009). He identifies, indeed, Economic Globalization as the increasing economic integration and interdependence of national, regional and local economies across the world through an intensification of cross border movement of goods, services, technologies and capital There are two good reasons, in my opinion to accept Prof. Joshi s definition. First, it contains two core point affecting every aspect of that phenomena: Interdependence and Cross border movements. Second, it focuses on the interaction among markets avoiding approximate expression often used in public debate as Global Economy and Global Market that could mislead the reader, where national states still play an important role in Economies destinies, many people are not involved in economy, some markets still operate on a local level, transnational corporations are anyway nationally based and we can not (still) talk about a global labour market. • 45. The Famous Concept Of Scientific Management The famous concept of Scientific Management was originated by Frederick W. Taylor few centuries ago. Scientific management is a way of organizing and administrating the industry with its own system involving rules, methods and policies (Thompson, 1916). His goal was to standardize and connect all the current improvements in industrial organization and to push it further according to his concept (Thompson, 1914). His work later gave inspiration to many researches from other fields (Wren, 2011). On the other hand, Elton Mayo research later on the Hawthorne Experiment has deviated the industrial psychology from what relates the worker s relationship to his job instead to workers prioritizing work relations and attitude (Cubbon, 1969). Elton Mayo then develops the concept of Human Relations by studying the workers in groups instead of how Taylor did by studying workers as individual. Through this, he noticed workers prefer working in groups and it even increases the productivity of the work place. (Ionescu Negrusa, 2013). According to Scientific management, workers were assumed to be passive and reluctant to put in all their effort without the interference of the management. They also try to minimise and even avert responsibility (Hekman, 2002). Besides, it is inferred that workers have cooperation dilemma where some workers try to disadvantage their own colleagues by doing less work but still earning the same profit, known also as the soldiering behaviour (Wagner Tsukamoto, ... The use of colour is often an important technique utilised by п¬Ѓlm directors to communicate themes and ideas to an audience. In American Beauty, Mendes powerfully uses colour to communicate that the characters are attempting to escape from their imprisonment. Pederson (7) explains that there are stages of culture shock, which he identifies as the honeymoon, negotiation, adjustment, and adaptation. In the honeymoon phase, a person is likely to get excited about being in a new place, meeting new people, tasting new foods, and acquiring new habits. However, as time passes by, they get into a phase of negotiation, where the differences between the culture one is used to and the one they find themselves in start to become apparent. Feelings of anxiety, anger, and frustrations start to take shape as unfavorable events perceived as strange come in the way of the person s life, especially if a person does not feel accepted in the new culture (Mukherjee 273). Loneliness may set in, and the urge to go back to the familiar culture strongly comes into play. However, as time goes by, adjustment sets in, usually within six to twelve months, and one gets accustomed to the culture and also comes up with a routine. By this phase, one knows what is expected of them, and life once again becomes normal. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
