Beowulf Compared To Norse Mythology
There are many stories around the world that can be compared to different myths and legends from
different cultures. This way we can identify some of the shared themes and characteristics amongst
them. For example, the similarities between the names of gods, mythical monsters, and magical
objects in Norse Mythology to the novel Beowulf, by Kevin Crossley Holland. In this epic poem,
there are many accurate connections that can be made to Norse Mythology, all the way from
creatures and weapons to the god of thunder, Thor.
The first accurate connection between Beowulf and Norse Mythology are creatures. According
to Mythology Wiki, A Jotunn is a giant in Norse Mythology, a member of a race of spirits with
superhuman strength, described as standing in opposition to the races of Aesir and Vanir. (Yee,
n.d., pg. 1660) In the story, Beowulf, there was a brief description of the creature Grendel, He
ranges the moors, the fen, and the fastness. He is the father of every evil being monsters and dark
elves and spiteful spirits. (Crossley Holland, 1982, pg. 4) As you can see, Beowulf contained many
references to the monsters and mythical creatures found in Norse Mythology. ... Show more content

In Ancient Pages, it says that A viking sword was a deadly weapon and symbol of power. It was
jewelry for a man, with magical properties. The ideal sword was light, strong, easy to handle,
flexible, and had two sharp edges. (Lloyd, 2017, n.d.) Coincidentally, Beowulf used a sword in the
story as well to kill Grendel s mother, He saw a sword, massive and double edged, made by giants,
lying in one corner of the chamber. It was so huge that only he of all men could have handled it.

How Did The Ionic Order Influence Greek Architecture
Let s delve back into the past and see the magnificent architecture that screamed power from every
curve.... ever pillar. Greek architecture used 3 main styles that were incorporated all over Greece
and is still practiced this day and age.
The first style is the Doric Order which emerged around the late seventh century and was
predominant in Greek temple constructions and major building; the most notable being the
Parthenon in Athens. The Doric order is characterized by a plain column that rests on a stylobate
that did not have a base. The columns are fluted and the square spaces in the vertical plaques and
metopes are either painted or sculpted to provide decoration to the plain columns.
The next style is the Ionic order. The Ionic order was developed during the mid sixth century and
the columns on Naxos. The Ionic order is known mainly from the graceful proportions where it is
more of a slender and elegant style compared to the Doric order who is stockier and supportive.
Ionic order uses base supports at the bottom of the columns and volutes (scroll like ornaments).
The final order is the Corinthian Order; the last classical order of Greek architecture. This order
uses more vegetal elements in its structures more so than the Ionic order. It used leaves ... Show

Effects Of Oral On Athletic Performance And Health
The Effect of Oral ATP Supplements on Athletic Performance and Health
Abstract
During the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has continuously gained
popularity and recognition as a successful nutritional strategy to gain muscle mass and strength.
Countless studies have been conducted to observe the effects of creatine supplementation on
physical performance of individuals, along with its effect on the health of the tested individuals.
These studies have found that creatine supplementation does indeed have a beneficial effect on
physical performance by increasing strength and muscle mass, while not providing any serious
health concerns to those who consume it.
Literature Review
Over the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has been gaining immense
popularity, with documented sales from $50 million in 1996 (Bamberger, 1998) to over $400
million during 2001 (Metzl et al., 2001). Creatine supplementation first started to gain popularity
after Olympic athletes from the Barcelona Olympic Games believed that their performance had
benefited from taking creatine supplements (Anderson, 1993). Since then, creatine has become one
of the most widely utilized nutritional supplements worldwide (Williams et al., 1999). A reason for
this may be that creatine is not banned by the National Collegiate Athlete Association (NCAA) or
the International Olympic Committee. However, NCAA coaches are not allowed to provide
creatine for their

What would you do if you were to find out, that just by watching an advertisement on television, it
can lead you to drug problems, health issues, or even death? With this, alcohol distributors poison
the mind of the young and make them believe that drinking can really bring all the pleasures
portrayed in the advertisements, like the beach parties, celebrations, and fun at sporting events
Alcohol, that may be consumed, has been a very important aspect of the world. Many people
enjoy being able to have the feeling you receive when they do drink any form of alcohol. Alcohol
advertising influences not only adults but teens and children who are too young to purchase it.
Parents have a large impact on children s decision to drink, but marketing also has a greater impact
on the children s decision of underage drinking. Not only is the consumption bad for children, but it
is also unhealthy for adults. Alcohol advertisements are advertising a person to kill themselves,
because the consumption of alcohol will not end on a happy note. Alcohol companies spends so
much money advertising their product through television, that almost every person in america
watches. Alcohol companies see the money in youth and continue to advertise it to gain more
control on the youth. Alcohol companies target the youth to drink it. They also see people they
look up to such as role models that may drink alcohol which makes them think it is okay for them

Essay on If He Hollers Let Him Go
America has gone through many changes since its independence in 1776. However, as America
was in the midst of its Second World War, it became obvious that one thing that had yet to be
entirely solved, racial discrimination. In the novel, If He Hollers Let Him Go, Chester Himes
creates a wide variety of characters that all have a different, but concrete, view point on raceand
racial discrimination. The novel is about Bob Jones, a black man, who moves to California
during World War II because he is tired of the extensive racial discrimination in Ohio. Bob begins
to work at Atlas shipyard, one of the many shipyards that are responsible for producing ships,
which was crucial during the time of war. Bob eventually becomes a leaderman in the... Show more

Mrs. Harrison believes that black people have to earn the white people s respect, trust, freedoms
and equality. Mrs. Harrison says to Bob, You mustn t think in terms of trying to get even with
them, you must accept whatever they do for you and try to prove yourself worthy to be
entrusted with more (52). She states that if black people work hard enough, the white people
will reward them. She also wants the black community to wait for the white people to give them
something better, to accept what the white people do for them. She compares the idea of black
and white people equality to communism. She tells Bob that he needs to make himself worthy
of respect. You know yourself, Bob, a lot of our people are just not worthy, they just don t
deserve anymore than they re getting (52). These comments illustrate how class has a great
influence on Mrs. Harrison s point of view on race. Without having to work and being rich, she
is ignorant of the racial discrimination that a day to day skilled worker of Bob s color has to go
through. Like her daughter Alice, Mrs. Harrison has been given special treatment by the white
people for her lighter skin, and her social and economic class.

Art Brodsky E-Book Stealing
In a piece written by Art Brodsky, Art Brodsky argues that beyond, the e book pricing, the real
problem of e books is that it is killing libraries. As Brodsky notes:
Imagine walking into a library or bookstore and needing three or four pairs of different glasses to
read different books manufactured to specific viewing equipment. Or buying a book and then having
to arbitrarily destroy it after say, two weeks. That s just nuts. But it s the current situation we re in
with eBooks.
By this, he is referring to the fact that Amazon, Google and so on, have their e book stores where
they sell goods which works on certain devices. Libraries have been an important part of our human

Last Possible Parse Hypothesis
1.What are the first possible parse and last possible parse hypotheses? According to Libben, if the
process of prelexical parsing were a left to right parsing procedure, then the first possible parse
hypothesis would indicate the separation of the first constituent. On the other hand, the last possible
parse hypothesis would result in separate activation. 2.What other alternative do the experiments
test? The experiments showed that none of hypothesis clarified prelexical parsing. Libben
strengthen his theory that prelexical parsing was supported by a recursive parsing procedure. In the
first experiment, Libben also tested constituent activation in addition to the mechanisms of

Great Again. This book was awesome. Donald J. Trump wants to place his name all over USA
rebuilding our infrastructure, knowing he had something to do with building s that will last
centuries. He wants the world to again see the greatness in our country. Sure he has a ego, but
that is what drives those who want to succeed. Donald J. Trump outlines his plans to make USA
great again through better leadership and action. Too much empty talk, not enough action. We
the People are tired of these politicians who talk their way into office and then fail to live up to
what they promised. Trump will restore America to its former greatness, a greatness we have
not seen since the Reagan years. This book is also a call for the return of genuine patriotism and
taking pride in our country. We the People know that USA is the greatest country in the world
and we need to put someone in the Oval Office who will actually Lead and put that greatness on
display by taking Action. Donald J. Trump blueprint for USA is certainly on the right track and
there are specific laid out here. USA is facing some very serious problem. We need a tough
leader who is not a puppet for the special interest groups. Donald J. Trump is using donors, as
well as his own money to fund his campaign. Of course this does not sit well with the lobbyist and
special interest groups looking to own the next President. The Washington Times reports the total
debt stood at $ 10.6 when the president came into office and will hit $ 20 trillion as his term ends

Administrative discretion and enforcement discretion are the two types of discretion.
Administrative discretion is the officer having the freedom to make fair decisions about the

discretion used by officers include offender, situational, and system varialbes. Offender variables

Knowing Flannery O Connor s religious conviction, one cannot overlook this underlying tone in

The grandmother s bigotry is also on display as the family rides past a black youth standing near his

little pickaninny! (12). When her granddaughter June Starr comments on the boy s lack of clothing,
the grandmother explains that little niggers in the country don t have things like we do (12). As the
grandmother emits racism through her comments, she is also inserting such notion into her
grandchildren s minds. Nor Bailey or his wife says anything, so it can be suggested that they are

Forbidden Lies By Norma Khouri
The history of publishing has been plagued with literary hoaxes from the somewhat harmless Ern
Malley hoax to the most recent Belle Gibson scandal. Unfortunately literary hoaxes will continue
to happen, unless publishers begin to fact check manuscripts before publication. Publishers claim
they are unable to do this due to the financial cost of the procedure and this is a believable claim.
If you spoke to an average person they would say that the print industry is dying, thanks to the rise
of digital technology, and there has been a downturn in profits.
However, regardless of whether the print industry actually is dying or not, a publisher is
responsible, both legally and ethically, for every manuscript they put onto our shelves. This essay
argues that publishers need to make fact checking part of the standard publishing procedure to
uphold their legal and ethical responsibilities to the public. Forbidden Lies by Norma Khouri will
be used as a case study throughout the essay. First, this essay will give a brief overview of the
Norma Khouri hoax, then move on to discuss why fact checking is not commonplace in the book
publishing industry. Next, it will assess where the legal and ethical responsibilities lie with the
author or publisher. After this, it will examine the financial repercussions and damage to a publisher
s reputation after the publication of a literary hoax. Then, it will begin to examine the ethical
damage literary hoaxes cause to the readers who are

Celtic Life Essay
Upon hearing the term Celtic, the first things that come to mind are the awe of their intricately
patterned jewelry, lively music, and the flowing tunics they wore. These people are also known
for being fierce warriors and for their superstitious, nature centered religion. Celtic customs are
still alive and well in places like Ireland and the western reaches of Britain, but within this essay I
shall explore their origins and traditions. To start off, I will address the Tumuluspeoples. They were
among the growing number of societies whom spoke dialects that branched off of Indo European; a

From the very beginning the pro Celts established that their society was that of warriors, spending
much of their time warring with other groups and taking territories. They gained an advantage in
their warfare and trade alike once horses became commonly used in Celtic society. The increased
mobility put them a notch above the rest; helping the Celts in their invasions and defense. In the 7th
and 8th centuries BC, their boundaries kept pushing into lands which today would be called
Germany and France. Sizeable hilltop forts were built to maintain the people whom the Celts took
power over.
As time went on and lands were conquered, typical burial procedures morphed. Because of
having such a war centered life, they began burying the dead with their swords to commemorate
them for the gritty effort they contributed to their people. Supplies such as wagons, good pottery,
and food were also stowed away with the bodies in order for them to have a well prepared
afterlife. Chiefs, in particular, were buried with special bronze urns and multiple swords. Towards
the 8th century BC, as the Iron Age dawned, warriors began to be buried with sturdier iron
weapons. Wooden chambers replaced cremation urns more and more often as the 7th century
moved into the 6th century BC. Items such as swords and eating implements were still included. In

The Efficient Market Hypothesis (Emh) Has Been Subject
The efficient market hypothesis (EMH) has been subject to professional and academic debate and
analysis for many years, and refers to the theory proposing that stock prices show all information
regarding a firm s value. An efficient market is a market in which investors with the same
information and similar investment goals compete actively (Sewell, 2012). Many private investors
and investors aiming to make profits are involved with the stock marketand often make low risk
investments while aiming for high rates of return. However, the efficient market hypothesis states

The semi strong form of market efficiency argues that an individual should not be in a position to
benefit by utilizing public information. (Potocki and Swist, 2012). Market analysts and financial

The Validity of the Semi Strong Form of the Efficient Market Hypothesis
Many researchers have tested the validity of the semi strong form of the Efficient Market

Excessive Global Energy Transition
Concerns about the consequences of excessive global warming have made energy transition a
matter of increasing interest. Carbon emissions from changing land cover and emissions of CH4
and N2O from agricultural activities are significant contributors to the excessive global warming,
but emissions of CO2 from the combustion of fossil fuels remain the largest source (Vaclav 2016).
Nevertheless, there are empirical indicators that promoting the transition to the decarbonisation of
current global energy mix will necessitate the shift of energy systems towards a more sustainable
configuration (Loorbach and Rotmans 2010). This view is not only shared amongst the academia
but also amongst policy makers. But the big question is, is decarbonization in itself sustainable?
Whereas the decarbonization of energy mix is appreciated, but given that the remaining

from the proven correlation between GDP and GHG emission. However, fewer places are better

Disadvantages Of Being A Gladiator
What was life as a gladiator? How does it affect humans today? What were the advantages and
disadvantages of being a gladiator? There are so many are so many questions about gladiators that
go unanswered, but now, thanks to archaeologists, we are able to answer those questions. Evidence
shows that being a gladiators had both advantages and disadvantages. A gladiatoris an armed fighter
who entertained audiences in the Roman Empireby fighting against other gladiators, wild animals,
and criminals. In late 1st century, Nicolaus of Damascus believed they were Etruscans. A
generation later, the 1st gladiatorial ceremonies were held in 310 BC. It was held by the
Campanians in celebration of their over the Samnites. The Romans were greatly influenced by
their predecessors the Etruscans. For example, the Etruscans always sacrificed an animal before
their ceremonies, so the Romans started doing the same. Gladiators were usually slaves or
criminals, but could also be free men. Professionals gladiators were usually free men, but they
were all treated as slaves. Free men still wore shackles and had to do whatever they were told.
Although they were treated as slaves, free men would often be the most popular amongst the
crowd. Criminals and slaves would be set free if they survived 3 5 years as a gladiator. More than
100 gladiator schools were built throughout the Roman Empire. Gladiators were sent to school
depending on if they were a criminal or not.

The Schism Between Chinese and American Medical Practices...
Increased global interdependence has brought about the convergence of cultures, traditions, and the
way individuals go about their daily lives. As daily life around the world seems to become more
uniform in all cultures, it becomes important to examine the aspects that most converge and pay
special attention to why they have or have not evolved to resemble each other. In regards to one of
the highest orders of educationand one of the most vastly important studies worldwide, medical
training has become more globally uniform. Our goal is to have our top doctors and researchers

The late 1900s brought about a great deal of change for China in terms of basic education. In
1978, a policy of globalization took effect, and the Peoples Republic of China began to interact
with the world much more than in its previous years. Subsequently, in 1985, the Decision on the
Reform of educational structure was mandated by the Communist Party. This placed the
responsibility of education on local governments. A year later, the Compulsory Education Law of
the People s Republic of China was passed, making basic education a legal requirement of citizens.
Throughout the 1990s, more laws were passed that further refined education, detailing the
requirements for quality socialistic educations, and promoting science and technology as vital
elements. The result of this reform was a tremendous increase in kindergartens, primary, junior and
senior secondary schools. Enrollment rates at primary and junior secondary schools were 98.58%
and 90% respectively. Employed full time teachers were nearly 5.8 million in 2002 (4). These
details show that a thoroughly educated Chinese culture is still young, and without a doubt these
developments affect the practice of the medical professional.
The variations between Chinese and American higher education have developed due to the
differences in tradition and culture. The U.S. culture is a quickly morphing, dynamic culture that

The Texas War For Independence
The Texas War for Independence
The Texas War for Independence started on October 2,1635 and ended on April 21,1636. But a lot
of stuff had happened to lead up to this war. For instance in 1820, Moses Austin, a U.S. citizen,
asked the Spanish government in Mexico for permission to settle in little populated Texas. The land
was granted, but Austin died soon after, so therefore his son, Stephen F. Austin, took over the
project. In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spain, and Austin negotiated a contract with the
new Mexican government that allowed him to lead 300 families to the Brazos River. Under the
terms of the agreement. The settlers were to be Catholics, but Austin mainly brought Protestants

Homo Suburbiensis by Bruce Dawe.
Introduction: Homo Suburbiensis is as much a poem about the human condition, as it is a record
of one man s escape from the demands of his existence. Homo Suburbiensis uses one man s escape
from his demands to represent our universal need to contemplate and resolve our own uncertainties
in life in our own special place. Dawe uses a series of imagery to depict the workings of our minds
and a chain of unpleasent sensory experiences to illustrate unwanted intrusions in our lives.
Through the vague depictions of these intrusions Dawe urges us not to give great attention to them,
but to offer to the world, our most truthful emotions and thoughts. The man in the poem is not just a

The Tridentine Rite And The Novus Ordo Rite
The two most common rites of the Mass are the Tridentine rite and the Novus Ordo rite. The
Tridentine rite was used before Vatican II and is now, mostly, replaced by the Novus Ordo rite.
These two rites have many similarities and differences. One of the most distinct differences is that
the Tridentine rite is said in the language of the Church, that being Latin, while the Novus Ordo
rite is said in any native language of that area. Another obvious difference is that, in the Tridentine
rite, the priest faces the high altar while, in the Novus Ordo rite, the priest faces the congregation.
One other difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, most of the responses are said by the altar boys
and rarely said by the congregation. When one who

The Criminal Justice System
Introduction
Victims usually adopt a subsidiary role in the courts, compared to the accused or offender (Booth,
2016). Victim focused law reforms are open to many jurisdictions throughout Australia, and
majority of systems which follow the adversarial nature of proceedings (Garkawe, 2007). The
justice system aims to enforce a therapeutic structure, however, in some instances this fails to be
upheld for the victim. In a sentencing hearing, an offender s mitigating factors may reduce their
sentence, therefore providing the offender with more rehabilitative issuances. Whereas victims
have little to no influence over the outcome of the sentencing hearing. Victim impact statements

A very prominent and effective procedure, which satisfies the criteria of inclusion, is victim impact
statements.
Victim Impact Statement
VIS s are statements prepared by the victim to the court, which details the harm and impact caused
by the relevant criminal offence (Booth, 2016). It is submitted to the court, voluntarily by the
victim, prior to the sentencing hearing of the offender (Booth, 2016). VIS s are a right granted
under s8k of the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic). Subsequently, s8l states that a VIS would usually
contain the particular impact which the offence had on the victim, and the damages, harms or
losses suffered as a rather direct result by the victim. The purpose of the VIS is to increase
acknowledgment of victims throughout the criminal justice system (Garkawe, 2007). The need for a
VIS is justified in the legal sense, because a judge is made more aware of the extent of harm
inflicted on the victim, and the gravity of the offence is more likely to be understood via a VIS
(Garkawe, 2007).
Benefits of the VIS
VISs were initially introduced for the purpose of accommodating to the needs and expectations of
victims when confronting the criminal justice process. Victim impact statements have received
social support because it upholds the notion of justice, while supposedly maintaining and not
interfering with the interests of the defendant (Cassell, 2009).
Essentially, the introduction of the VIS is crucial in providing information to the

Adherence Of Chronic Disease Article Essay
INTRODUCTION I decided to write about the Adherence to Chronic Disease article because
people do not see how important is to follow the doctors orders. When somebody is in pain he or
she immediately goes to the hospital expecting to get better and feel nothing the next day. Some
do not even go until the pain is unbearable. People need to realize that our bodies do not work that
way. The damage that we had caused cannot be repaired in a couple of hours, but it takes months
even years to treat some illness. And to get positive results people have to follow the treatment.
Adherence is extremely important, especially for the prevention and control of cardiovascular
disease.
In the article, it mentions the results of non adherence like the growth of hospitalizations, deaths
and it also mentions the increasing costs of care. To avoid those results, there are some known
adherence barriers like counting the number of medications given per fill or the number of visits to
the pharmacy monthly but these are mostly being used by individual health care delivery
organizations or managed care plans. But the implementation of achievable mechanisms of control
to evaluate and monitor are needed. The New York State (NYS) Department of Health, the New
York City (NYC) Health Department created a method to evaluate adherence among NYC
Medicaid participants and to manage future interventions.

The Garden Of Earthly Delights Essay
The Garden of Earthly Delights is a triptych painting by Hieronymus between 1503 to 1515. The
oil on wood painting is based on Chritian ideology. The painting consist of two portions: exterior
and interior. The interior portion consist of three panels while the exterior portion consisit of two
panels. The two outer panels need to be put side by side to form image. The outer panel depicts a
scene from the creation of the earth. Lack in presense of color, the paintingis rendered in a green
gray grisaille. The painting illlustrates a round sphere halfway filled with water. A small island
of plant floats on top of the blue water. Dark clouds covered the top portion of the globe. A small
figure on the upper left is thought to be God wearing a crown with a Bible on his lap. God is
watching the creation of the Earth in a submissive manner. The inner panels are more livelier than
the outer panels. The left panel illustrates God introducting Eve, who was made out from Adam s
ribs while he was alseep. God, dressed in pink, is looking straight at the viewers. Adam sits on the
grass looking straight at Eve with curiosity while Eve is staring straight at the ground. Rabbits

Persuasive Essay On Air Traffic Control
The odds are that at some point in time, most people in America will travel by air. What most of
these people do not realize is that a simple flight is in reality a well oiled, complex machine unlike
any other air navigation service provider in the world. After the Wright brothers took their first
successful flight, America embraced air travel. The Federal Aviation Agency (now Administration)
officially began operations in May of 1958, and later developed a sophisticated air traffic control
system that is responsible for the largest volume of air traffic in the world ( A Brief History of
the FAA ). Today, however, many politicians believe that government involvement in air traffic
control is inhibiting the overall performance of air traffic control. Several bills have been
proposed to Congress since the 1970s in attempt to separate air traffic control (referenced as ATC)
from the FAA by privatization, corporatization, or other means (Elias 2). The most recent of these
bills has caused serious debate in the aviation world over economic policies, safety regulations, and
overall effectiveness of the current ATC system. The Aviation Innovation, Reform, and
Reauthorization Act (21st Century AIRR Act) as proposed by Representative Bill Shuster should
not be passed by Congress because it would privatize air traffic control by removing it from the
Federal Aviation Administration. This would entail the creation of a board of stakeholders who

Why, doctor what an insightful play you ve written. I bet your exploration of human situations will

That is because most physicians are trained to be logical concise thinkers who do not have room for

The Night Of The Broken Glass By Markus Zusak
On November 9, 1933, Joseph Goebbels made a speech that initiated a crowd of violent Nazi
activists who would burn down over 1,000 synagogues, and destroy over 7,000 businesses, thus
creating Kristallnacht, the night of the broken glass . Following this act, was the beginning of the
Holocaust. 6 months later, on May 10, 1933, members of the Nazi German Student Association, as
well as other university students, burned close to 25,00 volumes of un German books to promote
their nationwide campaign: Actions against the un German spirit .
Markus Zusak uses the monstrosities of the Kristallnacht and Jewish book burning period in his
book, The Book Thief as a reminder of the effects of the Nazi assaults on everyday life.
In this essay, I will explain the reasoning behind the Nazi book burnings and what kind of books

The Book Thief presents a kind of protest against the Nazi assault on knowledge and social

“No One Knowingly Does Evil” by Socrates. Essay
The argument which I am focusing on is titled No One Knowingly Does Evil and is written by
Socrates. This argument concludes that those who do evil things do them involuntarily. That is,
people do not necessarily want to do evil things, but do them against their will. A very important
point is presented by Socrates in that evil deeds are not done willingly. It is thoughtby many that
some people are simply evil natured and commit evil deeds because they want to. However,
Socrates is arguing that this is not true. By doing this, he is going against common thought and
presenting a very debatable conclusion. I will evaluate the argumentso as to prove it is a legitimate

I think the key to this statement being false is the word all. Sometimes, people want to cause
harm to someone else in order to get back at them or to serve justice. If they think they are
justified, that person would be more willing to commit an evil act. The second premise, in my
opinion, is true. I do not think that a person, without outside influence, would simply do
something which they do not want to. If it is not something a person wants to do, chances are it
won t be done. Therefore, I think this premise is true. When evaluating the entire argument as a
whole, I determined it to be valid. It is logical to move from premise one to premise two and
develop the provided conclusion. Even though I believe premise one to be false, the argument is
still valid. This is because, if it were true, it would make sense to draw that conclusion from those
two statements. The conclusion does not present any new information not given in the premises
either. The argument automatically becomes unsound because premise one is false. It is impossible
for the argument to be sound by definition.
I believe one objection would be that in certain circumstances there are dire needs. That is,
someone would do an evil deed because it was absolutely necessary. For example, if a family had
been kidnapped, there would be everything done in order to bring them home safely, even if some
of it involved a form of evil. This

The Reign Of Elizabeth I
The reign of Elizabeth I is often thought of as a Golden Age. It was a time of extravagance and
luxury in which a flourishing popular culture was expressed through writers such as
Shakespeare, and explorers like Drake and Raleigh sought to expand England s territory
overseas. This sense of well being was embodied by Queen Elizabeth who liked to wear
sumptuous costumes and jewellery, and be entertained in style at her court. But life in Tudor
England did not always reflect such splendour. The sixteenth century was also a time when the
poor became poorer, books and opinions were censored, and plots to overthrow the Queen were
rife. Elizabeth s ministers had to employ spies and even use torture to gain information about
threats to her life. In 1558 the Protestant preacher John Knox wrote, It is more than a monster in
nature that a woman should reign and bear empire over man. So was he right? Were women fit
to rule the country? The people had lived through the unpopular reign of Mary I, known as
Bloody Mary for her merciless persecution of Protestants. Lady Jane Grey was Queen for only a
matter of days before being toppled and eventually executed. And Mary Queen of Scots made a
series of ill judged decisions which led her to the executioner s block in 1587. Elizabeth could be
as ruthless and calculating as any King before her. Elizabeth was a different kind of Queen: quick

The Matrix and Rene Descartes
Throughout this essay, I am going to break down and philosophically evaluate The Matrix. While
doing so, I am going to identify parts of skepticism and the mind body problems that can be
detected while watching this science fiction action film. This film has proposed many questions
that have been philosophized by Rene Descartes and Plato; I will use these ideas that they have
offered to understand how Neo discovers reality and the relationship of living or life through virtual
reality.
At the beginning of, The Matrix, Neo seems to be flustered, and he questions his reality on multiple
occasions. The events that play out within the first few minutes and they make him wonder if he
is in a dream or he is truly experiencing what is going on in his apartment. He received a message
across the computes that read, The Matrix has you he then receives another message following a
perfectly timed knock at the door. There s a group of people who are waiting outside of his
apartment, and he had a brief conversation with them and began to ask, You ever have that feeling
where you are not sure if you are awake or still dreaming? He asked his ... Show more content on

The belief that things are real through sense is invalid, and he discovered he could not use them
to discern what is real or not. That was because the senses are electrical signal interpreted by the
brain. Descartes realized that sense could not be used to confirm the reasoning of what is real
because, the senses often impede the mind in many operations, and in no case do they help in the
perception of ideas. Descartes had very vivid and realistic dreams which lead him to study his
own dreams. He first believed that his dreams were messages from God and that it would give him
purpose. Late in his life he decided to investigate the dream he had to understand

Benefits Of International Student Recruitment
This is one major reason that many students choose to study in the US and participation in
multicultural groups may help students to make the needed connections to enjoy a successful stay
after graduation (Chue Nie, 2016).
In addition to fiscal benefits to international students, there are benefits to the university and
surrounding community that are gained from an improved relationship with the international student
population For instance, international students who remain after graduation become members of
the community and promote cultural awareness and competence (Bodycott Walker, 2000; Kumasi
Hill, 2011). Moreover, universities can benefit from greater retention and completion among
students. Other nations such as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Improved relationships between institutions and international students should be a major focal
point for researchers and administrators for the future.
The low response rate of this study and many others shows the necessity to determine what may be
preventing students and potential participants from answering surveys. Is this an issue of a lack of
English skills or are there other mechanisms at play that need to be considered? For instance,
differences in culture could preclude some people from participating and some may be reluctant to
participate due to unethical survey research they may have dealt with in the past. Learning
communities in US higher education are very diverse and each group, including international
students, deserves recognition and inclusion (Petrovich Lowe, 2005). However, it is problematic to
address issues when one cannot get enough participants to warrant attention from those in decision
making roles. Therefore, determining if there are differences in participation based on demographic
information as well as overall reluctance to participate should be explored to improve the quality
and quantity of data that is collected from international students. More research can also help to
determine which incentives are the most helpful when attempting to perform a

The Theme Of Death And Death In Shakespeare s Hamlet
In Hamlet, Shakespeare depicts the diffusion side of the problematic part in the life of the hero
who recoils and leads to his death. The use of death in storytelling offers many pathways to
character development and can also carry the theme of the story. Many stories can also be centered
around death. In the story of Hamlet, the story begins with the young prince depressed about the
deathof his father.
Prince Hamlet was ordinary boy just like any other. He was a smart and clever young man and
was probably very kind to have many friends and a girlfriend, but after the news of his father s
death, he had changed. Hamlet soon began to shut himself in his room every night and wears
nothing but dark clothing. The death of his father ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I loved you not. Towards the middle of his play, Hamlet sees that his uncle appears to act
suspicious and proceeds to walk out of the room. This means that what the ghost said must be true
and he may now proceed in getting his revenge. Even though the young prince believes that he is
pretending, it seems that between the death of his father and the feeling of betrayal by his loved
ones has taken its toll on Hamlet.
During a conversation with his mother, Hamlet hears a noise from the tapestry and thought it
was Claudius, so he proceeds to stabbing him, but out came Polonius, Ophelias father. Hamlet s
obsession with revenge has caused him to kill an innocent man and unavoidably leads his lover
to perish. The death of her father drives Ophelia insane and eventually she drowns causing her
brother Laertes to hate Hamlet for destroying his family and teaming up with Claudius to kill the
prince. Their plan was to have Laertes fight Hamlet in a fencing match where Laertes will fight
with a sword that is coated with poison and later Claudius will offer Hamlet a Cup filled with
poison. As the match begins Laertes cuts Hamlet, then they accidentally switch swords and then
Hamlet cuts Laertes. Now both boys have been sliced by the poisoned blade and their lives are
reaching their end. As Claudius watches the match with Gertrude, too focused on the match to be

A Badminton Overhead Clear Shot
In this essay I will discuss, de construct and analyze the techniques used by my partner, Luke
Wynne when performing the badminton overhead clear shot using anatomical and biomechanical
analysis. Throughout the essay I will give critical feedback and feed forward on four different
phases, the preparation phase, execution phase, contact phase and the follow through phase. I will
discuss the functional anatomy of how my partner can better his whole performance to become
closer to the optimum performance that elite athletes play at, also known as the autonomous stage
of learning. I will then finish my essay with a conclusion to sum up everything that I have
discussed. PREPERATION The first stage when performing a badminton overhead clear is the
preparation stage; I will discuss the ideal performance, and then compare the ideal to my partner s
performance. In the beginning of the shot the player raises his arms above his head using the
posterior deltoid. This movement involves the flexion of the elbow using the biceps. The pectoral
major and the biceps are the agonists in this movement with the antagonists being the triceps,
latissimiss dorsi and the trapezius. This movement involves the use of the third class lever, with the
load being the racquet, and effort being the triceps and the fulcrum being the elbow, which is a
hinge joint. Also at this stage, the non racquet arm is fully extended pointing at the shuttle using the
trapezius and the interior deltoid to extend the

Symbols And Symbols Of Icons
Iconography is the traditional or conventional images or symbols associated with a subject and
especially a religious or legendary subject (Iconography). Icons are used in all religions to
represent and commemorate religious figures and symbols that are held with great honor within
the religion. Icons are used to represent some sacred personage, such as a saint or an angel or
Christ (The Definition of Icons). Icons are typically written on wood and honored as sacred
(Goldammer). Not only is the writing itself seen as sacred but the whole practice of creating these
icons is a religious event. There are three main types of religious icons: portrait icons, group icons,
and landscape icons referring the the objects in the writings.
There are rules associated with iconography that have to be followed in order for the image to be
viewed as an icon. Before the artist starts writing the icon, they are supposed to fast and pray so
that they are in a clear, undisturbed state of mind. The artist needs to quiet one s spirit, which is
done through the praying and fasting. The quieting one s spirit is a way to open up and let God
in so he can do the work. The artist is instructed not to sign the writing as it is supposed to come
from God therefore, there is no credit that needs to be given. Another rule is that icons are referred
to as written instead of painted or drawn . Describing them as written emphasizes the important
spiritual role that these icons possess.

Princess Diana Essay example
When they feel like it is the end of the world, many people have trouble keeping a smile on their
face. Other people can continue to shine no matter how bad they feel. Those people can leave a
long lasting impact on the world. Princess Diana influenced millions of people from all over the
world, and her legacy will remain forever. Lady Diana Frances Spencer was born at home on
July 1, 1961, in Norfolk, England (Morton 70). Her parents were very ashamed that she was a
girl. They wanted a boy very badly to keep the Spencer name (Morton 71). Diana had two older
sisters and one younger brother. She was always the closest to her brother, Charles, and admired
him strongly (Vickers 160). As a child, Diana was somewhat complicated. Growing up,... Show

Diana grew up always feeling different and unlike anyone else. She was surrounded by stuffed
animals, considering them as her family (Morton 23 27). She could not rely on anyone but her
brother because they understood each other. She grew up always being jealous of her two older
sisters (Morton30). Diana Spencer met Prince Charles when she was sixteen years old, while
visiting with his family. Diana left a memorable impression. There was a thirteen year age
difference between the two of them, but they had a lot in common (Dolan 4). Diana had crushed
on Charles since she was a little girl. She was in love with him so much that she had a poster of
him hanging above her bed (Dolan 4). Diana always joked about how she should be more into
Prince Andrew because he was around her age, but she always longed for Charles. In 1980, Miss
Spencer and The Prince of Wales began talking about marriage. In 1981, Charles proposed to
her, and she immediately responded yes. Her dream was always to marry Charles (Dolan 14).
On July 29, 1981, Lady Diana Frances Spencer and Charles Philip Arthur George were joined
together in holy matrimony in St. Paul s Cathedral. This day was the most remembered day in
British history. This was the largest media event of all time (The Prince 1 2). Half a million
people joined the couple at the royal wedding. Residents from London and every part of the world,

This way we can identify some of the shared themes and characteristics amongst them. For example, the similarities between the names of gods, mythical monsters, and magical objects in Norse Mythology to the novel Beowulf, by Kevin Crossley Holland. In this epic poem, there are many accurate connections that can be made to Norse Mythology, all the way from creatures and weapons to the god of thunder, Thor. The first accurate connection between Beowulf and Norse Mythology are creatures. According to Mythology Wiki, A Jotunn is a giant in Norse Mythology, a member of a race of spirits with superhuman strength, described as standing in opposition to the races of Aesir and Vanir. (Yee, n.d., pg. 1660) In the story, Beowulf, there was a brief description of the creature Grendel, He ranges the moors, the fen, and the fastness. He is the father of every evil being monsters and dark elves and spiteful spirits. • 4. How Did The Ionic Order Influence Greek Architecture Let s delve back into the past and see the magnificent architecture that screamed power from every curve.... ever pillar. Greek architecture used 3 main styles that were incorporated all over Greece and is still practiced this day and age. The first style is the Doric Order which emerged around the late seventh century and was predominant in Greek temple constructions and major building; the most notable being the Parthenon in Athens. The Doric order is characterized by a plain column that rests on a stylobate that did not have a base. Effects Of Oral On Athletic Performance And Health The Effect of Oral ATP Supplements on Athletic Performance and Health Abstract During the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has continuously gained popularity and recognition as a successful nutritional strategy to gain muscle mass and strength. Countless studies have been conducted to observe the effects of creatine supplementation on physical performance of individuals, along with its effect on the health of the tested individuals. These studies have found that creatine supplementation does indeed have a beneficial effect on physical performance by increasing strength and muscle mass, while not providing any serious health concerns to those who consume it. Literature Review Over the past 20 years, the nutritional supplement creatine monohydrate has been gaining immense popularity, with documented sales from $50 million in 1996 (Bamberger, 1998) to over $400 million during 2001 (Metzl et al., 2001). Creatine supplementation first started to gain popularity after Olympic athletes from the Barcelona Olympic Games believed that their performance had benefited from taking creatine supplements (Anderson, 1993). Since then, creatine has become one of the most widely utilized nutritional supplements worldwide (Williams et al., 1999). Unfortunately literary hoaxes will continue to happen, unless publishers begin to fact check manuscripts before publication. If you spoke to an average person they would say that the print industry is dying, thanks to the rise of digital technology, and there has been a downturn in profits. Under the empresario system which was created by the Mexican government in the 1820s to encourage colonization of its northern provinces. Men like the Edwards were allowed to settle Anglo families in Texas. However, many of the Anglo settlers retained stronger ties to the United States than to Mexico, and Benjamin Edwards hoped that many former Americans would support his attempt to split from Mexico. Accompanied by a force of about 30 men, Edwards seized a stone fort in Nacogdoches and declared that the new Republic of Fredonia was now independent of Mexican control. Edwards claimed his new nation extended from the Sabine River to the Rio Grande River, and would be governed under the principles of Independence, Liberty, and Justice. • 26. Homo Suburbiensis by Bruce Dawe. Introduction: Homo Suburbiensis is as much a poem about the human condition, as it is a record of one man s escape from the demands of his existence. Homo Suburbiensis uses one man s escape from his demands to represent our universal need to contemplate and resolve our own uncertainties in life in our own special place. Dawe uses a series of imagery to depict the workings of our minds and a chain of unpleasent sensory experiences to illustrate unwanted intrusions in our lives. Through the vague depictions of these intrusions Dawe urges us not to give great attention to them, but to offer to the world, our most truthful emotions and thoughts. The Tridentine rite was used before Vatican II and is now, mostly, replaced by the Novus Ordo rite. These two rites have many similarities and differences. One of the most distinct differences is that the Tridentine rite is said in the language of the Church, that being Latin, while the Novus Ordo rite is said in any native language of that area. Another obvious difference is that, in the Tridentine rite, the priest faces the high altar while, in the Novus Ordo rite, the priest faces the congregation. Victim focused law reforms are open to many jurisdictions throughout Australia, and majority of systems which follow the adversarial nature of proceedings (Garkawe, 2007). The justice system aims to enforce a therapeutic structure, however, in some instances this fails to be upheld for the victim. Victim Impact Statement VIS s are statements prepared by the victim to the court, which details the harm and impact caused by the relevant criminal offence (Booth, 2016). It is submitted to the court, voluntarily by the victim, prior to the sentencing hearing of the offender (Booth, 2016). VIS s are a right granted under s8k of the Sentencing Act 1991 (Vic). Subsequently, s8l states that a VIS would usually contain the particular impact which the offence had on the victim, and the damages, harms or losses suffered as a rather direct result by the victim. The purpose of the VIS is to increase acknowledgment of victims throughout the criminal justice system (Garkawe, 2007). The need for a VIS is justified in the legal sense, because a judge is made more aware of the extent of harm inflicted on the victim, and the gravity of the offence is more likely to be understood via a VIS (Garkawe, 2007). Benefits of the VIS VISs were initially introduced for the purpose of accommodating to the needs and expectations of victims when confronting the criminal justice process. Victim impact statements have received social support because it upholds the notion of justice, while supposedly maintaining and not interfering with the interests of the defendant (Cassell, 2009). • 31. Adherence Of Chronic Disease Article Essay INTRODUCTION I decided to write about the Adherence to Chronic Disease article because people do not see how important is to follow the doctors orders. When somebody is in pain he or she immediately goes to the hospital expecting to get better and feel nothing the next day. Some do not even go until the pain is unbearable. People need to realize that our bodies do not work that way. The damage that we had caused cannot be repaired in a couple of hours, but it takes months even years to treat some illness. And to get positive results people have to follow the treatment. Adherence is extremely important, especially for the prevention and control of cardiovascular disease. In the article, it mentions the results of non adherence like the growth of hospitalizations, deaths and it also mentions the increasing costs of care. To avoid those results, there are some known adherence barriers like counting the number of medications given per fill or the number of visits to the pharmacy monthly but these are mostly being used by individual health care delivery organizations or managed care plans. But the implementation of achievable mechanisms of control to evaluate and monitor are needed. The New York State (NYS) Department of Health, the New York City (NYC) Health Department created a method to evaluate adherence among NYC Medicaid participants and to manage future interventions. What most of these people do not realize is that a simple flight is in reality a well oiled, complex machine unlike any other air navigation service provider in the world. After the Wright brothers took their first successful flight, America embraced air travel. The Federal Aviation Agency (now Administration) officially began operations in May of 1958, and later developed a sophisticated air traffic control system that is responsible for the largest volume of air traffic in the world ( A Brief History of the FAA ). Today, however, many politicians believe that government involvement in air traffic control is inhibiting the overall performance of air traffic control. Several bills have been proposed to Congress since the 1970s in attempt to separate air traffic control (referenced as ATC) from the FAA by privatization, corporatization, or other means (Elias 2). The most recent of these bills has caused serious debate in the aviation world over economic policies, safety regulations, and overall effectiveness of the current ATC system. The Aviation Innovation, Reform, and Reauthorization Act (21st Century AIRR Act) as proposed by Representative Bill Shuster should not be passed by Congress because it would privatize air traffic control by removing it from the Federal Aviation Administration. I think the key to this statement being false is the word all. Sometimes, people want to cause harm to someone else in order to get back at them or to serve justice. If they think they are justified, that person would be more willing to commit an evil act. The second premise, in my opinion, is true. I do not think that a person, without outside influence, would simply do something which they do not want to. If it is not something a person wants to do, chances are it won t be done. Therefore, I think this premise is true. When evaluating the entire argument as a whole, I determined it to be valid. It is logical to move from premise one to premise two and develop the provided conclusion. Even though I believe premise one to be false, the argument is still valid. This is because, if it were true, it would make sense to draw that conclusion from those two statements. The conclusion does not present any new information not given in the premises either. The argument automatically becomes unsound because premise one is false. It is impossible for the argument to be sound by definition. I believe one objection would be that in certain circumstances there are dire needs. That is, someone would do an evil deed because it was absolutely necessary. It was a time of extravagance and luxury in which a flourishing popular culture was expressed through writers such as Shakespeare, and explorers like Drake and Raleigh sought to expand England s territory overseas. This sense of well being was embodied by Queen Elizabeth who liked to wear sumptuous costumes and jewellery, and be entertained in style at her court. But life in Tudor England did not always reflect such splendour. The sixteenth century was also a time when the poor became poorer, books and opinions were censored, and plots to overthrow the Queen were rife. Elizabeth s ministers had to employ spies and even use torture to gain information about threats to her life. • 48. A Badminton Overhead Clear Shot In this essay I will discuss, de construct and analyze the techniques used by my partner, Luke Wynne when performing the badminton overhead clear shot using anatomical and biomechanical analysis. Throughout the essay I will give critical feedback and feed forward on four different phases, the preparation phase, execution phase, contact phase and the follow through phase. I will discuss the functional anatomy of how my partner can better his whole performance to become closer to the optimum performance that elite athletes play at, also known as the autonomous stage of learning. I will then finish my essay with a conclusion to sum up everything that I have discussed. • 49. Symbols And Symbols Of Icons Iconography is the traditional or conventional images or symbols associated with a subject and especially a religious or legendary subject (Iconography). Icons are used in all religions to represent and commemorate religious figures and symbols that are held with great honor within the religion. Icons are used to represent some sacred personage, such as a saint or an angel or Christ (The Definition of Icons). Icons are typically written on wood and honored as sacred (Goldammer). Not only is the writing itself seen as sacred but the whole practice of creating these icons is a religious event. There are three main types of religious icons: portrait icons, group icons, and landscape icons referring the the objects in the writings. There are rules associated with iconography that have to be followed in order for the image to be viewed as an icon. Before the artist starts writing the icon, they are supposed to fast and pray so that they are in a clear, undisturbed state of mind. The artist needs to quiet one s spirit, which is done through the praying and fasting. The quieting one s spirit is a way to open up and let God in so he can do the work. The artist is instructed not to sign the writing as it is supposed to come from God therefore, there is no credit that needs to be given. Another rule is that icons are referred to as written instead of painted or drawn . Describing them as written emphasizes the important spiritual role that these icons possess. ...
