A Life Worth Living: Extreme Sports Extreme sports include of variety of physical intense activities
that incite a new emotion, a rush of adrenaline, and a time commitment. In addition such intense
exercise requires focus and willpower and the athletes are required to work at optimal levels
individually and often as a team. However, in spite of all their physical and psychological benefits,
extreme sports offer, there are disadvantages. People do not understand the serious training involved
and place themselves in a dangerous situation which can involve injury or even death. A few examples
of these non mainstream sports include big wave surfing, BASE jumping, BMX riding, skydiving,
bungee jumping, wingsuit flying, and free climbing. The variety ... Show more content on

How can you know how worthwhile life is for anyone else if people are not giving the choice to live
with the greatest freedom possible. For many these extreme sports are the ultimate goodness that life
has to offer. As Socrates well understood that the unexamined life refers to a way of life lived by
routine under the established rules of others without the subject ever examining whether or not he or
she really wants to live with those rules or routines. According to Socrates, this type of life, had little
purpose, and was not worth living. Rather than an unexamined life, Socrates chose death.
Analogously, each person should be afforded the freedom to understand the training, discipline, and
risks involved with extreme sports. At the same time, each person should be allowed to make their
choices in participating in these extreme sports to achieve their greatest physical and psychological
challenge. For some, this is the beginning of a life deeply worth

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traditional And...
Since 1949, mainland China has promoted the use of simplified characters instead of the original
traditional characterscite{wangjun}. This issue has been circulated through the ages. In recent years,
however, there is an increasingly fierce debate whether we should return to the traditional characters.
In fact, both the traditional and simplified characters have merits and drawbacks. However, using
simplified characters is more practical, efficient and effective and contributes to the social stability
and development. As a result, the government should widen the use of simplified characters. Firstly,
simplified characters make it more convenient for the majority of people to get educated. This is
because the number of the strokes of simplified

Compare And Contrast Ancient Rome And Christianity
Ancient Rome vs Christianity Ancient Rome and Christianity experienced many similarities and
differences throughout their time. Because the Roman World began their religion multiple years
before Christianity began to erupt, therefore Christianity was persecuted by the Roman World. The
Roman World based their religion off gods and goddesses while Christianity was based off of Jesus
and his crucifixion on the cross for our sins. These religions share different but in some way similar
purposes, virtue, and destiny. The Romans began their religion by believing that spirits took up
everything around them and that their ancestors watched over them in everything they did. The
Romans began to believe in Major Greek gods such as Mars, Quirinus, ... Show more content on

Jesus Christ is believed to be the son of God and is considered the human version of God. Christianity
also believes in the Holy Spirit, which is with us always in everything we do. The Christian faith is
based on the belief that Jesus was born in a manger of the virgin Mary. It is believed that he lived a
perfect life where he made no mistakes or sins. Jesus was believed to have died on a cross for our sins
while being spat upon and cursed with a crown of thorns upon his head. Next, Jesus was buried in a
tomb and rose from the dead three days later. Finally, Jesus descended into heaven to be with his
father once again. Christians believe that in order to achieve eternal life you must accept Jesus into
your life by believing that all this information is true and you must ask for forgiveness of your sins.
Christians believe that Jesus will return one day to earth and will judge everyone and will take all
Christians back to heaven with him to be with his father God. Christianity began to take off in Ancient
Rome because of St. Paul. Paul began by creating churches in Asia Minor and Greece. He later began
to take his teachings to ancient Rome. The poor people in ancient Rome began to believe in
Christianity first. Christianity was illegal in Ancient Rome. If followers were caught by Rome they
faced death for their actions. Therefore, Christians had to meet in secret so they were not killed for
their beliefs. In 313 AD the Emperor Constantine, finally

The Role Of Leadership In Mid-Profit Organizations
Leaders create chances to change their societies, their communities, they enhance the domain they
belong to. Leadership gives voice to optimism, it gives wings to critical thinking and observation, it is
an influence rather than being an authority. It is about taking initiatives and formulating interactive
strategies. I believe leadership is not limited to the professional sphere of life but also in the social
component of life which has a major role to play. I have been working as a mid level employee in a
non profit organization for last two years now. The main focus of our organization is vernacular and
cultural heritage. It was during these times I came to know about Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and

Impact Of Space On The Space Industry
Space Industry is a broad term. It includes a huge variety of different sectors and industries. It is not
easy to track down an accurate definition of its boundaries. Estimation of the global value of the
industry present significant discrepancies. It can be agreed, however, that the Space industry generates
important revenues: SIA estimates USD 322.7 billion of global revenues for the industry in 2014,
while the Space Foundation estimates USD 330 billion.
The space economy has presented a constant and sustained growth over the last 40 years. As we can
observe in Figure 1 in the last 40 years space sector revenue s has grown significantly faster than the
global GDP. Moreover, the development of many modern widespread technologies have ... Show more

In broad terms, the literature distinguishes between three different sectors: scientific, military, and
commercial.
The scientific sector aims to develop new academic and technological knowledge, providing other
sectors the capabilities needed for their activities. Universities and research institutes are important
scientific and technological actors. The military sector, on the other hand, provides the conditions
required to secure national assets. Last but not least, the commercial sector aims to create richness and
business growth out of the Space industry. It is of fundamental importance for the sustainability of the
Space sector as a whole, as, differently from the scientific and military, is the only one specifically
designed to be profitable.
As the final objective is to provide an overview for the development of a sustainable Space strategy in
South Australia, the commercial sector will be the crucial unit of analysis of the paper, but not the only
one, as each sector is closely linked with the others, and has no chance to survive in isolation.
SPACE INDUSTRY S VALUE CHAIN
When asked about space activities, most people tend to think about big government and public funded
projects such as the International Space Station (ISS), the Voyager program, which is now exploring
the boundaries of our solar system, or the Mars Rover, which is studying Mars surface. This is
understandable, as such

The Princess And The Frog Comparison
The Princess and the Frog and Frozen are both major Disney successes. They teach golden morals and
important life lessons. But they did not originate as such. These stories began as a Brother Grimm s
fairy tale and a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, dark and harsh were the only feelings they
portrayed. While there are a few parallels between the two versions, much of them is different because
of the period it was written. The morals of The Grimm Brothers time and that of 2000 s Disney is
quite different. The Frog King by the Grimm Brothers was originally published in German in 1812. It
was the story of a young, beautiful princess that adored playing with a golden ball. One day as she is
tossing the ball around, it falls into a nearby well. The princess is distraught, and her weeping draws
the attention of a frog. The frog promises the princess he can retrieve the golden ball, but only for
something in exchange. The princess offers her clothing, jewels, even her crown, but ... Show more

Racism In Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes
Race and the different racial characteristics have been the main topic of many debates all over the
United States and has been for a long time. The topic of race continues to stay relevant because of the
way race is regarded. In the expert from Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes she establishes
multiple reasons on why and how racism is viewed in today s day and time.
Williams makes very strong points and claims within the excerpt however one her most recognizable
ones is on page 10 the first paragraph and last sentence Williams states The noisy, racial chasm still
yawn darkly beneath us all, but we few brave souls glide gingerly above, upon a skim of hope, our
bodies made light with denial, the black pond so dangerously and thinly iced with the conviction that
talking about it will only make things worse. Williams claim in this is clear: not talking about racism
will only continue to add to the fire which will only make the situation worse. Not talking about
racism is letting a pot stir and allowing racism to grow beneath our noses. When we don t speak on
racism it slows down the process of us advancing as a world. Many white people were taught that
talking about racism is racist so they tend to shy away conversations that evolve around race without
knowing they are involuntary apart of the problem by refusing to recognize the issue.
Williams starts off by using her son as an example on how race is disregarded. Williams talks about
how multiple white teachers

Presidential Election Of The United States
After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new
president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between
Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent
American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted
Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016
presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this
poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what
was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps
victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it
within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was
retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the
decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own
situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than
they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that
voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party ,

Morisot Vs Monet
Edgar Degas once said, art is not what you see but what you can make others see. Both pieces,
Impression, Sunrise by Monet and Summer s Day by Morisot, fulfill what Degas was getting at. The
painting by Claude Monet was a made in 1872 with oil on a rectangle canvas that was nineteen inches
by twenty four and three eighths. The piece is a view of the sun rising in the harbor of Le Havre,
France which was Monet s hometown. It contains the sky and the reflection of it in the water with
small boats containing a few individuals in the foreground of the painting. In the background, there
are larger, more industrial ships that are not very defined; they almost blend into the colors of the
rising sky. Monet s work uses vivid colors of blues and oranges

Utilitarianism By John Stuart Mill
Analysis Paper 2 In the essay Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill, he explains his support for
utilitarianism and argues any misconceptions of it. In his essay he talks about the difference between
higher and lower pleasures and what significance they have in his utilitarian moral theory. His theory
is based on the rule that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as
they tend to produce the reverse of happiness. Many people experience different kinds of pleasure and
he talks about how they can differ in quality and quantity. Mills talks about higher and lower pleasures
and what they mean. Higher and lower pleasures are two things that bring someone pleasure but
pleasure one brings greater pleasure than pleasure 2. Although pleasure 2 brings the person happiness,
pleasure 1 has a greater affect on their happiness and the person will always choose pleasure 1. Even
is the quantity is greater in pleasure two they will still choose pleasure one because of the quality.
Typically when someone experiences the higher pleasure they will not choose the lower pleasure
when given the option. Once people have experienced a higher pleasure they will never want to go
back to choosing the lower pleasure except in extreme circumstances. For example someone might get
pleasure from eating McDonalds, but one day they decide to go to chipotle instead and find out that
they like it much better than McDonalds. The next time that person is hungry and having to

Overview: The Hertz buyout is one of the largest private equity deals. It drew criticism in the media
and from union members, after the company s new owners paid themselves $1.3 billion in dividends
not long after the transaction closed and ultimately financed the payments by selling stock to the
public. The company has realized hundreds of millions of dollars in improved financial results
annually, but also has cut thousands of jobs as it has sought to make operations more efficient. Figure

Eventually, Ford went for the private sale, in a deal valued at $14.9 billion, which included $5.8
billion of corporate debt and $6.8 billion of debt secured by the company s vehicle fleet. At the time, it
was the second largest leveraged buyout ever done. The private equity firms invested $2.3 billion,
with each contributing an approximately equal amount, to acquire ownership of all of Hertz s common
stock. Strategy and implementation: Even before acquiring Hertz, CD R had identified three main
areas for improving Hertz s operations: the off airport market segment, high expenses in European
rental car operations, and widely varying performance among individual branch locations. According
to CD R executives, Hertz had significantly increased its number of off airport locations, for example,
but was losing money. So the firm decided to close some poorly performing offices. In Europe, CD R
identified overhead expenses, such as sales and administrative costs, which were several times higher
than in the United States and thus would be a target for change. After the buyout, the consortium
helped Hertz management develop operational and strategic plans and implemented a new
management compensation method, according to Carlyle executives. The plans included, for example,
efforts to increase market share in the leisure segment and to improve buying and managing of
vehicles. Carlyle executives said hiring a new chief

The Gilgamesh Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Epic of Gilgamesh consist of narratives in tablets that effectively forwards the ideology of
kingship in Mesopotamia through a compilation of themes. Gilgamesh outward appearance was
magnificent, but inwardly he was a relentless tyrannical king. The epic makes it clear that he was
beautiful, strong, and wise collectively these facts intertwine with him being one third god and two
third human. Oddly, Gilgamesh never effectively utilized his assets for the betterment of his people;
rather he used it for his own wishes. Despite, his abusive kingship, there was always an overarching
restorer of balance overtly seen through the themes of love, immortality, religion, gods wrath, and
womanly intervention. Ultimately, kings in Mesopotamia had absolute power, but once it was abused,
the gods intervened to restore order. The narratives, tablet by tablet, served to critique the perception
of kingship. King Gilgamesh, ruler of Uruk, was as petrifying as one could imagine; in modern terms
he would be labeled a terrorist. Yes, in some respects he fulfilled his role as king; he built the great
infrastructure of Uruk for his citizens, but that in it of itself was not sufficient because his evils
overweighed his good doings. He exploited women for sexual gratification, he killed sons, he
sacrificed warriors, and he essentially did what he wanted when he wanted with absolutely no
consideration of the people he reigned over. The citizens were helpless, they sought refuge to a source

divisions, which many earned Medal of Honor, and there were less racial tensions between Mexicans

Research Paper On War On Drugs
The topic I will be discussing is the War on Drugs. I will discuss the War on Drugs in relation to mass
incarceration and to what consequences the War on drugs has caused among people and society itself.
I have always been interested by the War on Drugs. However, slowly realizing, I only knew so much
about the issue. As I further researched I learned what the term, War on Drugs really means. The War
on Drugs is about the prohibition of drugs in society. Therefore, I strongly believe that the Drug War is
a very controversial issue in our society today. Not only does the Drug War affect our neighborhoods
and society in which we live in, but it also has effects on incarceration rates and crime, racial disparity,
and employment.
We have been fighting the War on Drugs since 1971 when President Richard Nixon declared drug
abuse as public enemy number one after receiving a report from two Congressmen that an astonishing
number of Vietnam veterans were addicted to heroin. The height of the Drug War was in the late 1980
s and early 1990 s. (Nixon and the Generation Gap). The War on Drugs caused a significant increase
to the United State prison population from the 1980s to the 1990s. U.S. prisons were filled with about
5.5% of non violent drug offenders in 1980 to about 7.6% in the 1990s (Benson, Escalating the War on
Drugs Causes and Unintended Consequences, p296).
As we know now, the War on Drugs is a very complex issue in our society today. The drug war has its

New onset ST elevation is indicative of a myocardial infarction and is a condition that often requires
either fibrinolytic therapy or angioplasty (O Gara et al., 2013). The principal methods for determining
acute coronary syndrome include the EKG and the cardiac enzyme troponin (O Gara et al., 2013). The
rapid ordering of these tests is especially useful during busy periods when there are delays in rooming
a patient and receiving an evaluation by a physician.
When there may be a delay in seeing a physician, advanced nursing interventions are standing
protocols that allow nurses to immediately initiate tests and treatments for specific conditions such as
chest pain. Overcrowded emergency departments with long wait times to see a physician have
compelled improvements in the rapid assessment and screening for those patients that may require
immediate medical intervention (Stauber, 2013). These protocols followed by triage nurses for helping
assess or provide treatment to emergency department patients before being seen by a provider have
been shown to be an effective method for improving department flow, identifying life threatening
conditions, improving patient satisfaction and outcomes, reducing time to treatment (Retezar,
Bessman, Ding, Zeger, McCarthy, 2011) and time to seen by a physician (Douma, Drake, O

led to actions and trends that society has learned to accept. We see it in the actors in movies, TV

Manliness (2006) begins with the author, Harvey C. Mansfield, explaining how the concept of
manliness has become outdated due to the concept of a gender neutral society being increasingly more
prevalent in today s times. The book explores the idea of manliness being a stereotype and ends with
the idea that there are still certain traits that are expected of men. Men and Masculinity (2001) is a

The Pleasure Of Eating By Wendell Berry Analysis
An essay can be determined as effective or ineffective by answering a few simple questions. If an
author achieves his purpose, appropriately relates to his specific audience, and has credibility for what
he is writing about, the essay is more than likely going to be effective. The essay being critiqued is
The Pleasure of Eating by Wendell Berry which was published in 1989. As a farmer, the author wants
his audience to recognize that there is more to eating than just eating. Those who purchase food from
grocery stores and restaurants are not only consumers, but eaters as well. Berry spends the duration of

The Army Of The Undead Essay
The Army of the Undead
In 1974 Chinese farmers in Lintong District, Xi an, of the Shaanxi province were digging for a well
when they unearthed fragments of clay figures and made one of the most important discoveries in art
history to date. Archaeologists were notified of the discovery and they began excavating the area for
more clues as to what was buried. The clay army of China s first emperor, Qin Shi Huang, was found
buried in pits near the emperor s underground tomb, over 8,000 warriors dated to approximately the
late third century BCE. The massive life sized army was once in full color and complete with weapons
such as swords and bows. Researchers have studied the various techniques and new technology that
was introduced to create the fine detail and unique features of each figure. Art historians have
speculated possible influences from other cultures such as Greek and Hellenistic that helped shape the
style of the figures. The terracotta warriors have been excavated from four main pits, other clay
figures including chariots, horses, and performers have been discovered around the emperor s tomb.
The clay army is a part of a much larger necropolis consisting of several halls, stables, and an imperial
park around the tomb mound. Qin Shi Huang s tomb hasn t been excavated out of fear of destroying
artifacts buried within by exposing them.
The discovery of the Terracotta army at first seemed to strengthen the idea of Chinas first emperor

Israel Conflict Research Paper
The primary parties involved in the Israeli Palestinian conflict are the Israelis and the Palestinians but
almost all Arab countries have contributed to the problem, as well.
The region as the heart of the conflict is the area formally known as Palestine. It now is Israel, Gaza,

Jewish Israelis claim ownership of the land because they need a place that is safe from all the hostility
from Arabs towards Jewish people. They also believe that they were promised this land by God. The
Palestinians (Arabs) say it belongs to them because their ancestors have lived there for hundreds of
years.

Essay On Institutional Incarceration
ncreased rates of incarceration came with growing rates of institutional violence and major
disturbances within U.S. correctional institutions have resulted in increased importance being placed
on the development of accurate and efficient correctional risk classification methods. In the current
study, institutional infractions were tracked from correctional intake for 17,054 male and female
incarcerated offenders. In order to allow observation of problematic behaviors, institutional infractions
were put into categories based on an inmate s ability to be physically aggressive, verbally aggressive
or defiant, and nonviolent infractions. After analysis and examination of inmates, there were several

federal and state correctional institutions (Bureau of Justice Statistics, 2004). According to these
authors, rates of incarceration have steadily increased at an average rate of 3.4% per year since 1995,
requiring most federal and state institutions to operate at or above capacity. The overage has placed
increased pressure on prison officials to efficiently classify newly incarcerated offenders. (Caperton,
Edens, Johnson, 2004). Balancing efficiency, accuracy, and cost, inmate classification procedures
influence most aspects of an individual s incarceration, including housing decisions, special services
such as mental health services, rehabilitation strategies, institutional privileges, management
strategies, and security level (Clements, 1996; Loza

Is Jude Real
Throughout the novel I believe Jude is most real when expressing his feelings for Luke. Not just
admitting them to himself moreover, letting Luke know how he really feels about him. At the
beginning of the novel Jude expresses his interest in Luke despite the fact that he is yet to accept him
as a Facebook friend (Reid,16). Being Facebook friends, is quite a big deal as it means you re cool
with that person. Furthermore, it gives you access to more personal moments in their lives and helps
you understand them better which is something Jude wanted very much so. As the novel progresses,

Jude s feelings and attractions towards Luke are certainly not hidden in the novel. Many know that
Jude has a crush on Luke and everyone was interested in it (Reid, 100). It was something people
talked about especially since Jude was very vocal and open about his feelings. It was also of interest to
people since Luke was in a relationship with Madison, who was not every fond of Jude s attraction to
her boyfriend. Finally towards the end of the novel, Jude takes the leap and asks Luke out (Reid, 147).
Jude does so in front of an audience and the response Luke gives him isn t what he was hoping for but
he does it anyways and puts his feelings all on the line. These moments made Jude seem real to me as
they are both brave and vulnerable and something that is certainly relatable. They are brave as Jude
demonstrated his determination to tell Luke how he truly felt. This certainly must not have been easy,
especially with Luke s reaction and if lack of interest throughout the novel. Nevertheless, Jude didn t
back down and he wanted to make sure Luke really knew how serious he was about him. This also
shows vulnerability as Jude risked a

The Platonist Tradition and the Ordering of Knowledge...
The Platonist Tradition and the Ordering of Knowledge
ABSTRACT: I argue that the contemporary crisis in education that nothing appears valid as a
discipline unless it has a utilitarian value may be challenged from the perspective of the Platonist
tradition. The ascent through philosophy to the vision of Beauty in itself in Plato s Symposium affirms
the perception of beauty or nobility as the ultimate end and value of all knowledge. Marsilio Ficino s
adaption of Plato in the Renaissance articulates a more metaphysical ascent which broadens the
objects of knowledge in order to include the cosmos and the arts as well as philosophy. Together, these
two accounts provide a foundation for understanding the ordering of all knowledge ... Show more

Of course, they are disappointed to discover that philosophy has more questions than answers, and that
there is no answer which has not been disputed. Nevertheless, they approach the subject in the same
spirit as traditional philosophical inquiry. In this spirit, then, it is appropriate to seek an answer to the
question, What is the value of education? Indeed, this question presupposes an answer to an even
more basic one: What is education?
It is difficult to articulate responses to these questions. Can liberal education today be really non
utilitarian, as it was for Aristotle, motivated by pure curiosity and a concern for excellence? (3) Such a
response has the merit of joining battle directly with the modern mentality, but it presupposes the
system of moral and intellectual virtues as defining human excellence. On the other hand, it is
impossible to follow the classical tradition and find a moral value in literature and the fine arts without
drawing critical distinctions regarding the moral value of particular works. This, however, has long
been foreclosed by the Kantian doctrine of the autonomy of aesthetic judgment. (4) In any case, it is
unclear what might be the source of moral judgment in the modern world; the classical concept of
virtue presupposed both a concept of the soul and a concept of citizenship in a particular locality. (5)
All three concepts have largely disappeared in the modern

Impact Of Force On The Community
Nicholas Palmer

Course Project Impact of Force on the Community
Introduction: The use of force is often under scrutiny in todays world. With cameras always focused
on the negative actions of those in law enforcement it is difficult for the public to understand several
things. First off, what is it like to be a police officer, what is it like to have the power to legally take a
life when deemed necessary? What is it like to have to use force and possibly deadly force to control a
situation? Many people do not see the world of law enforcement in this way, many just see a senseless
shooting, or a beating. Now I will admit this does happen, but it is rare. However when the media
portrays the police force in a certain light it can take years for the departments affected to recoup the
losses within the community. Misunderstood use of force in recent conflicts like Ferguson, where an
officer shot an assailant who had just committed a robbery and assaulted him, can be spun and
sensationalized both on purpose and subconsciously to make a bad guy out of the officer. In the
Ferguson case I believe false eyewitness accounts and false accounts being used as credible sources
caused the community and nation to riot against the department, city, and county officials. These
actions fueled by the mass media coverage caused weeks of unrest and community turmoil.
However what is force? Also how does it impact the community? Use of force is defined in 7 levels,
and used in the

It was very similar to Pompeian and Nucerian fans when insults were traded back and forth and then
fights broke out. In every sport they have agents or scouts looking for new talent, it was the same in
Rome. They had people search newly conquered lands to choose gladiators to fight for them. In
football there are different positions such as the Quarterback or tight end, as a gladiator you could
choose which type of gladiator you could fight as.
Life outside of the games was rough for most gladiators, but sometimes you would have the greatest
time of your life. If you made enough money fighting and were able to live many matches you could
earn your freedom as a slave. If you were a successful gladiator you would be on top of the world
because you could do almost anything. Many people were mad enough to volunteer to be a gladiator
for fame and glory, but few got to actually have it.
After a while people started to get bored of gladiator fights because they were just not amused and
horrified with these fights. With Christian minded people gladiator events finally came to an end in
404 CE. Emperor Honorius finally closed gladiator schools all together in 409 CE before the final
straw that ended the games. Although some criminals continued the wild animal hunts and fights
secretly for another century. Many romans missed this pastime as it was such a big part of their

Childhood And Adolescence During The Middle Ages
History has demonstrated that an evolution occurs with the aging of society. One such evolution is the
treatment of children. The concept of parens partriae was influenced by the exesting concepts of
childhood and adolescence during the Middle Ages. It experienced its first major evolution, judging
the 1960s, and has seen a further evolution in modern times. The following essay discuses those
evolutions, and evaluates if they are for the better, or worse.
According to dictionary.com definition of Parens Patriae is the government, or any other authority,
regarded as the legal protector of citizens unable to protect themselves. Parens Patriae is Latin for
parent of his or her country. It refers to the state s ability to act in the capacity of guardian for those
who have the inability to care for themselves. Examples of Parens Patriae are disabled individuals and
children. However, there has not always been protection for children. The middle Ages, was
significantly different for children, then it is at present. During the middle ages, the first relationship
that children experienced were within their immediate families. Like today, children lived with their
parents and siblings. However, because people dies younger, from disease, children were also know to
live with their extended families, such as aunts or uncles. Grandparents were disclosed, as most
grandparents would have died before most children were born. According to In Europe, during the

Portrayal Of Women In Trifles
Throughout American Literature women are wrongfully portrayed as worrisome and small minded
objects that are in need of a man to think and care for them. Throughout literary works like Susan
Glaspell s Trifles and Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour women are told to stay in the home and
take care of her family. The women are kept in the home, and any life outside of this sphere must first
be approved by her husband. In both of these pieces women are suppressed by this notion, and in
Trifles this oppressive view causes women to form an inseparable bond, and sparks the creation of a
sisterhood.
In Kate Chopin s short story you see, a woman who has heart troubles, Louise Mallard die when her
husband who is supposedly in a fatal accident returns to their home (Chopin). In this story her life is
psychologically torpid, causing her to live an anemic life until her husband s supposed death (Jamil).
When breaking the news to Louise, her sister, Josephine, and a family friend, Richards, take great care
in breaking the news of the her husband s lethal railroad disaster. This is so her heart troubles cannot
cause her to have any problems, like a heart attack happen. Once told the news, Louise begins to
mourn her loving husband s death; weeping, she goes to her room and refuses for anyone to follow her
(Chopin). This, however, is when she recognizes her new found freedom. Louise s marriage is a form
of slavery, where she has to comply with her husband s mandates (Jamil). Even though

My Style Of Fashion
Style Fashion Dress communicates to everyone differently but to me it was always ambiguous and it
will continue to be ambiguous because no two people will perceive an object the same exact way. My
Style Fashion Dress has changed over the years by my ability to get a hold of certain pieces without
my parents permission. Being a transnational fashion subject relates to each of us because whether we

is the fabric from a different country or a design from another culture each of our Style Fashion Dress
is transnational. Intersectionality: Subject positions are embedded in cultural discourses over which
individuals may have little control (Kaiser, 2012, p. 28). Some examples of subject positions, gender,
nation, sexuality, race ethnicity, age, place, class (Kaiser, 2012, p.30). The subject positions that I
relate to most is the fact that I am a young woman who is a feminist.
My style has changed within the past five years as I used to sneak clothing around in order for me to
dress the way I wanted to where now I freely express my style how I want and whenever I want. I
snuck clothing in my backpack because I grew up in a strict Mexican household where I could never
wear what I truly wanted to because my father wouldn t allow it and those were the rules no questions

Essay about Macular Degeneration
Macular Degeneration
Condition:
Macular Degeneration is a problem in the part of the eye that controls your sharpest central vision. It
is a group of diseases that result in a loss of detailed vision. The brain will not just leave the spot
empty, so it learns to fill it in with spotty macular cell damage. People most of the time don t tell their
doctors (opthalmologists) about it until it is well in advance.
There are two types of Macular Degeneration. Juvenile Macular Degeneration affects the central
vision in young children. This takes place in the macula, or the central region of the retina. The retina

Wet Macular Degeneration causes more severe loss of vision. Dry Macular Degeneration is the age
related type. There is no proven cure for dry Macular Degeneration.
Cause:
Basically what my research is stating is that there is a major genetic component that contributes to this
disease. There are three general types of hereditary Macular Degeneration. The first is called early
onset. This is when you get it when you are four years of age up to seven. In this type both parents and
their children can be affected. This means it is dominantly inherited. Most of the time this is called
Best Disease or Viteliform Macular Degeneration.
The second type is called middle onset. This is from five years of age up to twenty years of age. This
type is called Stargarett s disease. This is the Juvenile Macular Degeneration. This type is recessively
inherited. Meaning that this type can appear even if only a couple family members have it.
The third type is called late onset. This is when you get it in your thirties or forties. This type may
have dominant or recessive inheritance.
Really the cause of Macular Degeneration is unknown. Recently researchers have discovered that a
group of genes called ABCR contribute to the disease. When someone has these genes the likeliness of
this person to form Macular Degeneration increases by 30 percent. In most situations Macular
Degeneration is

In addition such intense exercise requires focus and willpower and the athletes are required to work at optimal levels individually and often as a team. However, in spite of all their physical and psychological benefits, extreme sports offer, there are disadvantages. A few examples of these non mainstream sports include big wave surfing, BASE jumping, BMX riding, skydiving, bungee jumping, wingsuit flying, and free climbing. The variety ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How can you know how worthwhile life is for anyone else if people are not giving the choice to live with the greatest freedom possible. For many these extreme sports are the ultimate goodness that life has to offer. As Socrates well understood that the unexamined life refers to a way of life lived by routine under the established rules of others without the subject ever examining whether or not he or she really wants to live with those rules or routines. According to Socrates, this type of life, had little purpose, and was not worth living. Rather than an unexamined life, Socrates chose death. Analogously, each person should be afforded the freedom to understand the training, discipline, and risks involved with extreme sports. At the same time, each person should be allowed to make their choices in participating in these extreme sports to achieve their greatest physical and psychological challenge. • 3. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Traditional And... Since 1949, mainland China has promoted the use of simplified characters instead of the original traditional characterscite{wangjun}. This issue has been circulated through the ages. In recent years, however, there is an increasingly fierce debate whether we should return to the traditional characters. In fact, both the traditional and simplified characters have merits and drawbacks. However, using simplified characters is more practical, efficient and effective and contributes to the social stability and development. As a result, the government should widen the use of simplified characters. Firstly, simplified characters make it more convenient for the majority of people to get educated. This is because the number of the strokes of simplified ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Compare And Contrast Ancient Rome And Christianity Ancient Rome vs Christianity Ancient Rome and Christianity experienced many similarities and differences throughout their time. Because the Roman World began their religion multiple years before Christianity began to erupt, therefore Christianity was persecuted by the Roman World. The Roman World based their religion off gods and goddesses while Christianity was based off of Jesus and his crucifixion on the cross for our sins. These religions share different but in some way similar purposes, virtue, and destiny. The Romans began their religion by believing that spirits took up everything around them and that their ancestors watched over them in everything they did. The Romans began to believe in Major Greek gods such as Mars, Quirinus, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Jesus Christ is believed to be the son of God and is considered the human version of God. Christianity also believes in the Holy Spirit, which is with us always in everything we do. The Christian faith is based on the belief that Jesus was born in a manger of the virgin Mary. It is believed that he lived a perfect life where he made no mistakes or sins. Jesus was believed to have died on a cross for our sins while being spat upon and cursed with a crown of thorns upon his head. Next, Jesus was buried in a tomb and rose from the dead three days later. Finally, Jesus descended into heaven to be with his father once again. Christians believe that in order to achieve eternal life you must accept Jesus into your life by believing that all this information is true and you must ask for forgiveness of your sins. Christians believe that Jesus will return one day to earth and will judge everyone and will take all Christians back to heaven with him to be with his father God. Christianity began to take off in Ancient Rome because of St. Paul. Paul began by creating churches in Asia Minor and Greece. He later began to take his teachings to ancient Rome. The poor people in ancient Rome began to believe in Christianity first. Christianity was illegal in Ancient Rome. If followers were caught by Rome they faced death for their actions. Therefore, Christians had to meet in secret so they were not killed for their beliefs. In 313 AD the Emperor Constantine, finally ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Leadership gives voice to optimism, it gives wings to critical thinking and observation, it is an influence rather than being an authority. It is about taking initiatives and formulating interactive strategies. I believe leadership is not limited to the professional sphere of life but also in the social component of life which has a major role to play. • 6. Impact Of Space On The Space Industry Space Industry is a broad term. It includes a huge variety of different sectors and industries. It is not easy to track down an accurate definition of its boundaries. Estimation of the global value of the industry present significant discrepancies. It can be agreed, however, that the Space industry generates important revenues: SIA estimates USD 322.7 billion of global revenues for the industry in 2014, while the Space Foundation estimates USD 330 billion. The space economy has presented a constant and sustained growth over the last 40 years. As we can observe in Figure 1 in the last 40 years space sector revenue s has grown significantly faster than the global GDP. Moreover, the development of many modern widespread technologies have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In broad terms, the literature distinguishes between three different sectors: scientific, military, and commercial. The scientific sector aims to develop new academic and technological knowledge, providing other sectors the capabilities needed for their activities. Universities and research institutes are important scientific and technological actors. The military sector, on the other hand, provides the conditions required to secure national assets. Last but not least, the commercial sector aims to create richness and business growth out of the Space industry. It is of fundamental importance for the sustainability of the Space sector as a whole, as, differently from the scientific and military, is the only one specifically designed to be profitable. As the final objective is to provide an overview for the development of a sustainable Space strategy in South Australia, the commercial sector will be the crucial unit of analysis of the paper, but not the only one, as each sector is closely linked with the others, and has no chance to survive in isolation. SPACE INDUSTRY S VALUE CHAIN When asked about space activities, most people tend to think about big government and public funded projects such as the International Space Station (ISS), the Voyager program, which is now exploring the boundaries of our solar system, or the Mars Rover, which is studying Mars surface. This is understandable, as such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. The Princess And The Frog Comparison The Princess and the Frog and Frozen are both major Disney successes. They teach golden morals and important life lessons. But they did not originate as such. These stories began as a Brother Grimm s fairy tale and a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, dark and harsh were the only feelings they portrayed. While there are a few parallels between the two versions, much of them is different because of the period it was written. The morals of The Grimm Brothers time and that of 2000 s Disney is quite different. The Frog King by the Grimm Brothers was originally published in German in 1812. It was the story of a young, beautiful princess that adored playing with a golden ball. One day as she is tossing the ball around, it falls into a nearby well. The princess is distraught, and her weeping draws the attention of a frog. The frog promises the princess he can retrieve the golden ball, but only for something in exchange. • 8. Racism In Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes Race and the different racial characteristics have been the main topic of many debates all over the United States and has been for a long time. The topic of race continues to stay relevant because of the way race is regarded. In the expert from Patricia Williams The Emperor s New Clothes she establishes multiple reasons on why and how racism is viewed in today s day and time. Williams makes very strong points and claims within the excerpt however one her most recognizable ones is on page 10 the first paragraph and last sentence Williams states The noisy, racial chasm still yawn darkly beneath us all, but we few brave souls glide gingerly above, upon a skim of hope, our bodies made light with denial, the black pond so dangerously and thinly iced with the conviction that talking about it will only make things worse. Williams claim in this is clear: not talking about racism will only continue to add to the fire which will only make the situation worse. Not talking about racism is letting a pot stir and allowing racism to grow beneath our noses. When we don t speak on racism it slows down the process of us advancing as a world. Many white people were taught that talking about racism is racist so they tend to shy away conversations that evolve around race without knowing they are involuntary apart of the problem by refusing to recognize the issue. Williams starts off by using her son as an example on how race is disregarded. Williams talks about how multiple white teachers ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Presidential Election Of The United States After almost two years on the campaign trail, the United States of America has finally elected its new president, Donald Trump. No that is not a typo, this is real life. It was a hard fought battle between Hillary Clinton and the Donald which ultimately lead to one of the most shocking upsets in recent American politics. Being that the odds were heavily stacked against Trump as poll after poll predicted Clinton be the victor, it was to the astonishment of many that he reigned victorious during this 2016 presidential election cycle. Be it the will of the country (or in this case electoral college ) this poisonous cheeto will now be the 45th president of the United States. So how did this happen, what was it about Trump that pushed voter behavior in his favor in many key battleground states? Trumps victory lies in the hands of the silent majority who at this point were dying for change and saw it within the republican nominee. The biggest contributing factor to Trump s win on November 8 was retrospective voting which a lot of voters clearly engaged in this election cycle. When making the decision of who to vote for during an election, voters often tend to start looking within at their own situation before throwing their support at a candidate. Questioning whether ones is better off now than they were before the previous election is known as retrospective voting. This concept is the idea that voters take into consideration factors such as the performance a political party , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both pieces, Impression, Sunrise by Monet and Summer s Day by Morisot, fulfill what Degas was getting at. The painting by Claude Monet was a made in 1872 with oil on a rectangle canvas that was nineteen inches by twenty four and three eighths. The piece is a view of the sun rising in the harbor of Le Havre, France which was Monet s hometown. It contains the sky and the reflection of it in the water with small boats containing a few individuals in the foreground of the painting. In the background, there are larger, more industrial ships that are not very defined; they almost blend into the colors of the rising sky. Monet s work uses vivid colors of blues and oranges ... • 11. Utilitarianism By John Stuart Mill Analysis Paper 2 In the essay Utilitarianism by John Stuart Mill, he explains his support for utilitarianism and argues any misconceptions of it. In his essay he talks about the difference between higher and lower pleasures and what significance they have in his utilitarian moral theory. His theory is based on the rule that actions are right in proportion as they tend to promote happiness, wrong as they tend to produce the reverse of happiness. Many people experience different kinds of pleasure and he talks about how they can differ in quality and quantity. Mills talks about higher and lower pleasures and what they mean. Higher and lower pleasures are two things that bring someone pleasure but pleasure one brings greater pleasure than pleasure 2. Although pleasure 2 brings the person happiness, pleasure 1 has a greater affect on their happiness and the person will always choose pleasure 1. Even is the quantity is greater in pleasure two they will still choose pleasure one because of the quality. Typically when someone experiences the higher pleasure they will not choose the lower pleasure when given the option. Once people have experienced a higher pleasure they will never want to go back to choosing the lower pleasure except in extreme circumstances. For example someone might get pleasure from eating McDonalds, but one day they decide to go to chipotle instead and find out that they like it much better than McDonalds. The next time that person is hungry and having to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Hertz Lbo Appendix VI: Hertz Corp. Case Study Overview: The Hertz buyout is one of the largest private equity deals. It drew criticism in the media and from union members, after the company s new owners paid themselves $1.3 billion in dividends not long after the transaction closed and ultimately financed the payments by selling stock to the public. The company has realized hundreds of millions of dollars in improved financial results annually, but also has cut thousands of jobs as it has sought to make operations more efficient. Eventually, Ford went for the private sale, in a deal valued at $14.9 billion, which included $5.8 billion of corporate debt and $6.8 billion of debt secured by the company s vehicle fleet. At the time, it was the second largest leveraged buyout ever done. The private equity firms invested $2.3 billion, with each contributing an approximately equal amount, to acquire ownership of all of Hertz s common stock. Strategy and implementation: Even before acquiring Hertz, CD R had identified three main areas for improving Hertz s operations: the off airport market segment, high expenses in European rental car operations, and widely varying performance among individual branch locations. According to CD R executives, Hertz had significantly increased its number of off airport locations, for example, but was losing money. So the firm decided to close some poorly performing offices. In Europe, CD R identified overhead expenses, such as sales and administrative costs, which were several times higher than in the United States and thus would be a target for change. After the buyout, the consortium helped Hertz management develop operational and strategic plans and implemented a new management compensation method, according to Carlyle executives. The plans included, for example, efforts to increase market share in the leisure segment and to improve buying and managing of vehicles. Carlyle executives said hiring a new chief GAO 08 885 Private ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Gilgamesh Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh The Epic of Gilgamesh consist of narratives in tablets that effectively forwards the ideology of kingship in Mesopotamia through a compilation of themes. Gilgamesh outward appearance was magnificent, but inwardly he was a relentless tyrannical king. The epic makes it clear that he was beautiful, strong, and wise collectively these facts intertwine with him being one third god and two third human. Oddly, Gilgamesh never effectively utilized his assets for the betterment of his people; rather he used it for his own wishes. Despite, his abusive kingship, there was always an overarching restorer of balance overtly seen through the themes of love, immortality, religion, gods wrath, and womanly intervention. Ultimately, kings in Mesopotamia had absolute power, but once it was abused, the gods intervened to restore order. The narratives, tablet by tablet, served to critique the perception of kingship. King Gilgamesh, ruler of Uruk, was as petrifying as one could imagine; in modern terms he would be labeled a terrorist. Yes, in some respects he fulfilled his role as king; he built the great infrastructure of Uruk for his citizens, but that in it of itself was not sufficient because his evils overweighed his good doings. He exploited women for sexual gratification, he killed sons, he sacrificed warriors, and he essentially did what he wanted when he wanted with absolutely no consideration of the people he reigned over. The citizens were helpless, they sought refuge to a source ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will discuss the War on Drugs in relation to mass incarceration and to what consequences the War on drugs has caused among people and society itself. I have always been interested by the War on Drugs. However, slowly realizing, I only knew so much about the issue. As I further researched I learned what the term, War on Drugs really means. The War on Drugs is about the prohibition of drugs in society. Therefore, I strongly believe that the Drug War is a very controversial issue in our society today. Not only does the Drug War affect our neighborhoods and society in which we live in, but it also has effects on incarceration rates and crime, racial disparity, and employment. We have been fighting the War on Drugs since 1971 when President Richard Nixon declared drug abuse as public enemy number one after receiving a report from two Congressmen that an astonishing number of Vietnam veterans were addicted to heroin. The height of the Drug War was in the late 1980 s and early 1990 s. (Nixon and the Generation Gap). The War on Drugs caused a significant increase to the United State prison population from the 1980s to the 1990s. U.S. prisons were filled with about 5.5% of non violent drug offenders in 1980 to about 7.6% in the 1990s (Benson, Escalating the War on Drugs Causes and Unintended Consequences, p296). New onset ST elevation is indicative of a myocardial infarction and is a condition that often requires either fibrinolytic therapy or angioplasty (O Gara et al., 2013). The principal methods for determining acute coronary syndrome include the EKG and the cardiac enzyme troponin (O Gara et al., 2013). The rapid ordering of these tests is especially useful during busy periods when there are delays in rooming a patient and receiving an evaluation by a physician. When there may be a delay in seeing a physician, advanced nursing interventions are standing protocols that allow nurses to immediately initiate tests and treatments for specific conditions such as chest pain. Overcrowded emergency departments with long wait times to see a physician have compelled improvements in the rapid assessment and screening for those patients that may require immediate medical intervention (Stauber, 2013). These protocols followed by triage nurses for helping assess or provide treatment to emergency department patients before being seen by a provider have been shown to be an effective method for improving department flow, identifying life threatening conditions, improving patient satisfaction and outcomes, reducing time to treatment (Retezar, Bessman, Ding, Zeger, McCarthy, 2011) and time to seen by a physician (Douma, Drake, O Dochartaigh, Smith, 2016). It is difficult to articulate responses to these questions. Can liberal education today be really non utilitarian, as it was for Aristotle, motivated by pure curiosity and a concern for excellence? With cameras always focused on the negative actions of those in law enforcement it is difficult for the public to understand several things. First off, what is it like to be a police officer, what is it like to have the power to legally take a life when deemed necessary? What is it like to have to use force and possibly deadly force to control a situation? Many people do not see the world of law enforcement in this way, many just see a senseless shooting, or a beating. Now I will admit this does happen, but it is rare. However when the media portrays the police force in a certain light it can take years for the departments affected to recoup the losses within the community. Misunderstood use of force in recent conflicts like Ferguson, where an officer shot an assailant who had just committed a robbery and assaulted him, can be spun and sensationalized both on purpose and subconsciously to make a bad guy out of the officer. In the Ferguson case I believe false eyewitness accounts and false accounts being used as credible sources caused the community and nation to riot against the department, city, and county officials. • 36. Portrayal Of Women In Trifles Throughout American Literature women are wrongfully portrayed as worrisome and small minded objects that are in need of a man to think and care for them. Throughout literary works like Susan Glaspell s Trifles and Kate Chopin s The Story Of An Hour women are told to stay in the home and take care of her family. The women are kept in the home, and any life outside of this sphere must first be approved by her husband. In both of these pieces women are suppressed by this notion, and in Trifles this oppressive view causes women to form an inseparable bond, and sparks the creation of a sisterhood. In Kate Chopin s short story you see, a woman who has heart troubles, Louise Mallard die when her husband who is supposedly in a fatal accident returns to their home (Chopin). In this story her life is psychologically torpid, causing her to live an anemic life until her husband s supposed death (Jamil). When breaking the news to Louise, her sister, Josephine, and a family friend, Richards, take great care in breaking the news of the her husband s lethal railroad disaster. This is so her heart troubles cannot cause her to have any problems, like a heart attack happen. Once told the news, Louise begins to mourn her loving husband s death; weeping, she goes to her room and refuses for anyone to follow her (Chopin). This, however, is when she recognizes her new found freedom. Louise s marriage is a form of slavery, where she has to comply with her husband s mandates (Jamil). Even though ... • 37. My Style Of Fashion Style Fashion Dress communicates to everyone differently but to me it was always ambiguous and it will continue to be ambiguous because no two people will perceive an object the same exact way. My Style Fashion Dress has changed over the years by my ability to get a hold of certain pieces without my parents permission. Being a transnational fashion subject relates to each of us because whether we realize it or not at least five pieces of clothing in your closet is made in a different country. Whether it is the fabric from a different country or a design from another culture each of our Style Fashion Dress is transnational. Intersectionality: Subject positions are embedded in cultural discourses over which individuals may have little control (Kaiser, 2012, p. 28). Some examples of subject positions, gender, nation, sexuality, race ethnicity, age, place, class (Kaiser, 2012, p.30). The subject positions that I relate to most is the fact that I am a young woman who is a feminist. My style has changed within the past five years as I used to sneak clothing around in order for me to dress the way I wanted to where now I freely express my style how I want and whenever I want. I snuck clothing in my backpack because I grew up in a strict Mexican household where I could never wear what I truly wanted to because my father wouldn t allow it and those were the rules no questions asked. I grew up with an older sister and a younger sister and the same rules applied to them but ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. Essay about Macular Degeneration Macular Degeneration Condition: Macular Degeneration is a problem in the part of the eye that controls your sharpest central vision. It is a group of diseases that result in a loss of detailed vision. The brain will not just leave the spot empty, so it learns to fill it in with spotty macular cell damage. People most of the time don t tell their doctors (opthalmologists) about it until it is well in advance. There are two types of Macular Degeneration. Juvenile Macular Degeneration affects the central vision in young children. This takes place in the macula, or the central region of the retina. The retina is where we are able to read and to distinguish colors. The main symptoms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Wet Macular Degeneration causes more severe loss of vision. Dry Macular Degeneration is the age related type. There is no proven cure for dry Macular Degeneration. Cause: Basically what my research is stating is that there is a major genetic component that contributes to this disease. There are three general types of hereditary Macular Degeneration. The first is called early onset. This is when you get it when you are four years of age up to seven. In this type both parents and their children can be affected. This means it is dominantly inherited. Most of the time this is called Best Disease or Viteliform Macular Degeneration. The second type is called middle onset. This is from five years of age up to twenty years of age. This type is called Stargarett s disease. This is the Juvenile Macular Degeneration. This type is recessively inherited. Meaning that this type can appear even if only a couple family members have it. The third type is called late onset. This is when you get it in your thirties or forties. This type may have dominant or recessive inheritance. Really the cause of Macular Degeneration is unknown. Recently researchers have discovered that a group of genes called ABCR contribute to the disease. When someone has these genes the likeliness of this person to form Macular Degeneration increases by 30 percent. In most situations Macular Degeneration is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
