The Reflection Of The Lesson Of Engineering Concepts
1.What was the focus of the lesson?
The focus of this lesson was the STEAM skill, engineering. This lesson of engineering phrases was
taught to a group of eighteen kindergarten students at Bartlett Elementary on November 16, 2017.
The entirety of this lesson lasted roughly forty five minutes.
2.How did the teacher introduce the lesson? Did the teacher specifically let the students know
what they would know or be able to do by the end of the lesson?
When introducing the lesson, the teacher Mrs. Taylor, started off by having the students recount
what they had done in the previous class (which was one week before this lesson). Mrs. Taylor
called on students who told her that last week they read the story, The Three Little Pigs, and that
they built homes for their own pigs. Another student brought up the fact that they each worked as a
team, with the students at their table, to build their homes. Mrs. Taylor then asked the students
what where the three materials provided to build their homes. The students replied that two groups
each got one of the materials which was straw, sticks, or bricks. Mrs. Taylor then passed out a
worksheet to the students, asking them to grab a pencil and to write their names using the dotted
lines, and top and bottom lines located at the top of the page. Then Mrs. Taylor had the students
circle which of the materials that their group used to build their homes. To help the students
remember, Mrs. Taylor walked over to a table and brought each group their houses, so that they
would remember. Once the students circled their material, they then had to draw a picture of their
home on the box located in the bottom left of the worksheet. While students were drawing, Mrs.
Taylor walked around and was asking students about their homes (structures) and if they think they
could stand up to the Big Bad Wolf. Once the majority of the students were done drawing their
picture, Mrs. Taylor told the students what they would be doing next, which was that each group s
home would go up against the Big Bad Wolf, which was just a higher powered electric fan. Before
moving over the fan Mrs. Taylor asked the students the following, Is this your first time building a
house? All of the students

Extending the Role of a Pharmacist
The role of a pharmacist is to ensure that the right medication reaches those who depend on it by
making their welfare the center of their practice. At the same time they should attempt not to ignore
their moral beliefs because it is important for pharmacists to have their right to refusal to maintain
professional ethics required in this field. While pharmaceutical drugs have the potential to alleviate
the symptoms of a life threatening disease or aid someone in everyday life, unfortunately there are
millions of Americans who abuse or take advantage of the benefits that can come from prescription
drugs.
Those who are against the expanded role of a pharmacist claim that these professionals have no
right to interfere in the decisions made between a physician and his or her patient and that
pharmacists have gone too far in exercising their power of refusal. Cynthia Dailard of the
Guttmacher Report on Public Policy 8, states in this article that pharmacists have the power to
refuse birth control pills on moral or religious grounds which, for example, might lead to the
struggle of many women not ready to be a mother. According to Julie Cantor and Ken Baum of
The Limits of Conscientious Objection in a profession that is bound by fiduciary obligation...it is
unacceptable to leave patients by their own standards to fend for themselves. Thus a medical
professional should not judge a patient because they do not know there history and using that as a
basis for objection is

Customer Service Experience
My customer service and negotiation skills were well demonstrated during my job at UNDP. I
collaborated and worked with the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) as a member of the
UN Registration and Verification Team, and interviewed more than 4000 People s Liberation Army

The True Value Of College Athletes. College Student-Athletes
The True Value of College Athletes College student athletes have some of the most time consumed
schedules of any college student. In regards to time commitment with their athletic team, that can
be a full time job in itself. Not to mention the academic commitment that should come before
athletic in the first place. Because college student athletes bring so much to the table in their
commitments, there has been an increased discussion on if college athletes should be paid. With
increasing controversy of the topic, college athletes should ultimately be paid because they are the
cause for high revenue streams of colleges, it would limit illegal or under the table payments, and
because they make significant sacrifices that deserve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Johnson and Acquaviva make the point that between weight training sessions, film room,
practice, individual workouts, travel, and finally competition, these student athletes cannot feel
much like students. (Brill 7) This further validates the point that college athletes should be paid
if they are spending so much time on athletics, and helping the school earn money along the way.
If college athletes were paid, it would motivate them competitively as well because the revenue
the program brings in is partially based off performance for signing TV deals and getting bids to
postseason games that earn more money for the school. The more successful a team is, the more
money they will be able to negotiate for in TV deals and the more likely they get bids to play in
post season games to generate extra revenue. Universities also make a fortune off of selling Since
the players are the source for this revenue by playing in these games, they would be even more
competitively driven to perform their very best because as a result they would get paid more
money and generate more money for the school at the same time. A win win scenario for both the
student athletes and their respective universities. Many of these college student athletes come from
low income homes as well. The argument could be made that if the university is able to help these
athletes families with a form of pay without making significant sacrifice, then they

Color Red Research Paper
In the bird world, it is a well known fact that the male of the species sports feathers of many
different eye catching colors. Consider the peacock s tail, the robin s red breast, the jay s bright
blue, and the multi hued mallard duck all in stark contrast to the dull, drab, earth tones of the
female of each of those species. The scientific literature, from elementary school textbooks to
graduate students theses, is full of many reasons why this is so, ranging from mating practices to
the protection of the offspring from danger. Humans, too, may have psychological or instinctual
connections to color. One may be having a blue day, demonstrating sadness, or it may be a red
letter day, indicating that something good has happened. One can be green with envy or describe
being angry as seeing red. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When presented with the color red, test takers were less able to complete the anagrams and the
matching tasks, they requested more easy questions, and they scored lower on the IQ tests.
Additionally, these participants EEG readings indicated higher measures of avoidance responses
in the prefrontal cortex. Further, the participants who had to move to an adjacent room walked
more slowly and knocked fewer times on the door, and the motion sensors indicated they inclined
their bodies away from the test booklets when the books were red. In each instance, seeing red, as
opposed to any of the other colors used (gray, green, black, or white) led participants to worse
performance and more performance anxiety. The researchers partially describe these results as a
learned response to the teacher s red pen making corrections on homework assignments or in test
booklets, and these outcomes seem to inform the need for teachers to establish red free
environments to support student

Reflection On Micro Teaching
This essay will analyse and highlight on the fifteen minute micro teaching reflection that is vital for
the self evaluation and professional development of my teaching practice. It will further identify my
strengths and weaknesses through my peer assessment and reflect on the teaching and learning
theories, methods and strategies that are linked and practiced in my micro teach.
According to the teachers standards (DfE, 2012) teachers make the education of their learners their
first concern, keep their knowledge up to date and are self critical. Therefore, this reflection
practice will guide me towards the improvement on my lesson planning strategies and delivery. In
addition, it will also make an enormous difference in my teaching and learning practice which is
vital for teacher training.
One of the significant part of this course is micro teaching session, in this session we are
required to deliver fifteen minute planned lesson containing learning outcome. Furthermore, this
session was recorded and observed by the peers to evaluate. Due to my interest in ESOL I
decided to deliver my session on Boogle Puzzle to embed a simple literacy/numeracy activity
aims to target ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) learners. In this task, pupils are
given activity to make seven ten words in the English language from the word grid to improve
word recognition and spellings.
Based on reflection of my micro teaching I provided learners with the basic instructions on
Boggle puzzle and opted for potential instruction strategy. I used present, practice and produce
strategy (English language resource, 2017) to allow pupils to practice and learn new vocabulary
in co operative way. Similarly, I used co operative learning method to encourage pupils to learn
from each other and gain interpersonal skills. According to Johnson and Johnson (1995) co
operative learning method have proven effective in increasing motivation, self esteem and problem
solving. Thus, to enhance inter dependency, the class was divided into two main groups of fours
and were further divided into pairs, to finish their task. According to Mercer (1985) effective
communication is as cognitive and social development are intertwined,

Spaghetti Western Cultures In Sergio Leone s A Fistful Of...
The term Spaghetti Western became popular in the mid 60 s in which A Fistful of Dollars was
released as the first film of a trilogy, but this was not Sergio Leone s first western movie. Leone s
films were not of a typical American western that had been released in previous years, but instead a
reaction or his own take of the Westernfrontier and through many aspects of his films we can see
influences from Italian cinematic styles and approaches. This was an interesting time for the
western film industry as John Wayne was sick with lung cancer and had a lung removed in
1964. Other notable stars in the Western genre were filming other productions and this was a
perfect time for Leone to introduce his Western films from his approach. Between 1950 and
1963 the production of Westerns in Hollywood had gone from 34 percent of all features
released, to a mere 9 percent in 1963 from about 150 films to 15. As a result, Europeans began to
produce their own westerns and in the process revitalized the old stories with distinctive
elements and hybrid forms. (Frayling) There was a demand or a void of these Italian films in
America as many producers shifted their focus on television as that market was rapidly expanding
in the United States. As a result of this we saw Between 1962 and 1976 over 450 westerns were
produced in Italy or involved Italian financial interest. (Frayling)
One of the major aspects in which Sergio Leone subverts the conventions of the Classical Western
film genre

Interpersonal Skills Are The Lifeblood Of An Efficient...
I sincerely feel interpersonal skills are the lifeblood of an efficient business. In the sections to
follow I hope to shed some light on many of these skills and prove how important they are in
business;
Listening
According to skillsyouneed.com, Listening is the ability accurately to receive and interpret
messages in the communication process. (listening skills ). This may sound as a passive skill
however it is far from it. A good listener is actively involved in trying to understand the
information as the speaker has intended. This skill is vital to good business. One example of
listening in action would be conducting customer surveys to better ensure the needs of the
customer are met. This may be as simple as asking how can we better serve you or a complex as a
large question bank to help judge company performance.
There are many resources to help improve these skills. If you have a minute head on over to http:/

Assertiveness
Assertiveness simply put, without being aggressive, being confident and self assured. An assertive
person is one who is not waiting in the back of the room for something happen; rather they are the
ones instrumental in making them happen. This is a crucial skill to have in the business world as
assertive people tend to create opportunities and innovation. In the business, assertiveness can be

Strategies For A Successful Business
Customer needs There are three ways to start up a successful business: 1.Do something really
new and people want. 2.Do something that already exists, but do it better. 3.Do something that
already exists, but at lower costs. All of this of course depends on customers needs and wants also
having a good understanding of what existing businesses are supplying. Good customer service is
vital to the success of a new business. Also, lack of enthusiasm of workers will reduce customer
satisfaction. Using market research, a business owner can understand what customers are looking
for. The starting point for checking facts is secondary research finding out data that already exists;
by using google. Secondary research could include the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If they both satisfy the customer, it will most likely result in many customers buying that certain
product. o Improving quality consumers don t want something that is cheap looking, they want
something durable. o Offering wide range giving customers many options to choose from, e.g.
Argos. o Innovative products many people desire new products that are in fashion or trending.
There is a high level of demand for iPhones because the quality is excellent; there is a range to
choose from (4, 4s, 5, 5c, 5s, 6 and 6+); with every new release, there is a new feature
(innovation); the prices are reasonable. Apple is competing fiercely against similar businesses
to itself such as Samsung in order to gain customers. Drawbacks of competition: o Increasing
rate of unemployment Because businesses have to cut costs in order to increase their profit and
compete, the number of workers will be cut down and this will mean that the business will lose
skills and the workers will become unemployed for a while before finding another job. Businesses
are always looking for cheaper labour, in some countries, people can be exploited for very little
money and longer hours. For example in India, some people are uneducated and are forced to
work in factories where working conditions are poor; wages are extremely low such as 17p per
hour also working longer hours. This is very unethical and controversial

Privacy In Workplace
Telephone Usage (Lauren Sanders)
Telephone usage is a part of the technology that can affect the privacy in the workplace. The call
feature on telephones can cause privacy issues. Although it is illegal for anyone to listen or record
regular phone calls, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act excludes commonplace business
calls (Maltby, 2013). This means the employer can record or listen phone calls made about
business. Sometimes employers make employees sign forms to consent to phone calls being
monitored. Another exception to this act is if the employee has consented to be monitored (Mika,
2012).
There are limits to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Maltby, 2013). A business is
supposed to stop listening and hang up when the phone call becomes personal (Maltby, 2013). This
cannot be monitored to know if the business is actually following this protocol. Also, the courts
rule mainly in the favor of the employer with the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Mika,
2012). Privacy issues with phones do not just stop with calls.
Another issue surrounding privacy and phone usage deals with devices given to employer.
Sometimes employers give employees devices to use for the business. These devices may be able
to do a variety of different functions. Often times these devices can do more than the ... Show more

Examples Of Mistakes In Atonement
Good morning, today I am going to talk about the ability to learn from mistakes. I ve based my
oral presentation on the novel Atonement by Ian McEwan. It can be said that it is in the nature
of all of us, human beings, to make mistakes. Of course, there are different kinds of mistakes;
there are some that are innocent and harmless and others that can affect ourselves and/ or other
people s lives. Still, it is mainly by making this second type of mistakes that we can learn
important life lessons. They can help us to identify our flaws, and thus help us mature and achieve
personal growth. Yet, not everybody may be able to learn from mistakes. This seems to be the case
of Briony Tallis, one of the main characters of the novelAtonement by... Show more content on

older Briony kept displaying this selfish and arrogant type of behavior. An example of this
occurs when she came across the aged Lola and Robert, she did not stop to think about their lives
or feelings but only thought about how many years more it would take to publish her book as this
couple should be dead before publishing it for a question of avoiding legal problems. Briony
realized that she would outlive Robert, yet Lola will definitely outlive her . Also, Briony
unconsciously admitted her lack of change when she expressed when reflecting about herself that
busy, priggish, conceited little girl [...]was not dead... . Thus, despite all the years that passed,
Briony was incapable to achieve enough maturation to rectify her

Environmental Issues in North America and the World
Introduction North America has been struggling immensely since the last century with air and
water pollution, deforestation, and overpopulation. These struggles are due to poor prevention
planning and industrial manifestation. Pollution is changing the atmosphere much sooner than
expected and global warming is predicted to overwhelm the atmosphere within the next half of a
century. In order to sustain the environment and atmosphere humans must take immediate action
right now. The longer we wait to start immediate prevention, the sooner our air and water supplies
will diminish. Unfortunately, it is not only North America that needs to change it is many other
countries and regions of the world. Prevention and preservation is up... Show more content on

Air Pollution and Global Warming The biggest cause of air pollution in North America comes from
carbon dioxide emissions. Fossil fuel, electricity, and vehicle technology has been an enormous
contribution to the emission of greenhouse gases. Greenhouse gases are gases that attract radiation
from the sun into the earth s exterior and its environment. Producing an overabundance of
greenhouse gases at a time may dramatically change the atmosphere as we know it today. The
ozone layer that protects human beings and many other species of plants and animals from the sun
s excruciating rays may deplete or be damaged due to too much pollution. The United States heavy
demand of fossil fuels for transportation is causing extreme confliction and competitiveness with
many other countries. Japan became so concerned with these issues that they devised a plan that
could bring countries together to compromise this extremely difficult issue. The Kyoto Protocol is
a negotiation put together by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
(UNFCCC). The treaty was compromised in Kyoto, Japan in 1997. Countries that formally approve
this protocol devote to decrease the amount of released greenhouse gases, or trade the number of
emissions allowed from sustaining or raising the emissions of greenhouse gases. The United States
of America was not among these countries that signed the

The Death Penalty Is Justified Essay
Capital punishment, also known as the death penalty, is the lawful infliction of death as a
punishment. (thefreedictionary.com). The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and
effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death
penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious
crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are
many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death
penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be
true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world considering there is
access to DNAtests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA)
molecules contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. They also
control the inheritance of characteristics from parents to offspring. (interpol.int). DNA profiling
plays an important role in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a
suspect at the scene of a crime. Not only that, but also DNA can help to prove a suspect s
innocence. With DNA testing, no innocent person will die from the death penalty on the grounds
that DNA tests can be used as concrete evidence to prove the suspect s innocence.
To open, one should know what exactly DNA profiling is and its use for

What Is The Theme Of Class Antagonism In The Take By Klein...
In the movie The Take by Klein and Lewis, I have identified several themes of relevance to Marx
s writings: the problem of capitalism, exploitation, poverty, alienation, and the working class
struggle. The observations I have made about Argentina as a rich country made poor by the
mismanagement of capitalist policies, the subsequent consequences of poverty and
unemployment, and the eventual expropriation of business by factory workers, can be theorized
by Marx s concepts of the labour theory of value, estranged labour, and religion as the opium of the
people . Nevertheless, the sub urban Buenos Aires society differ in several aspects from the society
described by Marx, especially in Marx s idea of class antagonism, challenging Marx s ideas... Show

Unlike Marx s methodological theory of the proletariats realizing their class consciousness and
becoming a class for itself as opposed to the bourgeoisie, The Take suggests that the antagonism
between the two classes is not that easily defined as binary opposites. For example, the closet
Menem supporter at the Forja factory is seen as a traitor to his cooperative group, yet he is not a
bourgeoisie by status. The people and activity that fall in between the spectrum of extreme
opposites of division of labour and no division of labour, of bourgeoisie oppressing the proletariats
and the proletariats being oppressed, are being ignored by Marx s theory of class antagonism.
In conclusion, The Take presents several points relevant to Marx s writings on the problem of
capitalism, exploitation, poverty, alienation, and the working class struggle. However, the sub
urban Buenos Aires society differs in several aspects from the society described by Marx,
challenging Marx s idea of political revolution, absolute binary opposites in class struggle and the
sustainability of his communist model in the context of the 21st

Money How The Destruction Of The Dollar Threatens The...
Throughout time, gold has preserved its value better than any other precious material (Forbes and
Ames 131). Even with that known there are still arguments against the gold standard. A few of
those arguments are; there isn t enough gold on earth for a gold standard, gold will tie a
governments hands and prevent growth, or how gold shows too much price volatility to be a
reliable anchor, but the 21st century gold standardchallenges the validity of those arguments. In
Steve Forbes and Elizabeth Ames book, Money: How the Destruction of the Dollar Threatens the
Global Economy and What We Can Do About It, they do a wonderful job describing the biggest
fears people have if the United States returns to a gold standard (Forbes and Ames 155). The
first concern is that there isn t enough gold in the world to have a gold standard today. Based on
today s global economy, including the U.S monetary base, that is correct but doesn t much
matter. Having a piece of gold for every dollar on earth is a general misconception. Gold doesn t
have to be based on the global supply. It must be used as a stable yard stick of value (147). Lack of
knowledge of gold backed currency is the reason people are so afraid. There are plenty of
countries that don t have an ounce of gold. As long as gold is used as a measurement tool, those
countries can tie their currency to the U.S. dollar, which is then tied to gold. In fact, not any
country to this day has ever had 100% of its money backed by gold. This

effects that divorce can have on children ages eighteen and under in the United States, as well as
other countries. In comparison, studies show that there is usually an emotional disconnect

experience family transitions such as divorce were less likely to succeed. (Ruschena, Prior,

problem weren t due to the divorce itself but to the relationship with the parents and their actions.
Using data from the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study Kindergarten cohort (ECLS K) (N =

Theme Of Corruption In Candide
In Candide, Voltaire satirizes many forces within society that he believes are unjust.
Unfortunately, many of the forces still exist today. In my opinion, the force that has caused the
most pain and suffering in Candide as well as in society today is corruption. Webster defines
corruption as dishonest or illegal behavior, especially by powerful people. Typically the intention
of corruption is some kind of personal gain. In Candide as well as today s world, people use their
power and influence over others for their own gain.
Voltaire satirizes the clergyas consisting of pleasure seeking, deceitful individuals masquerading
as a holy priesthood. A reason for this behavior is that during this time, the clergy was the only
way for younger sons to lead a respectable life. As a result, according to Friar GiroflГ©e jealousy,
discord, and rage inhabit the monastery and at the end of the day he wants to smash his head
against the dormitory walls and all my colleagues are in the same state (Voltaire 74). Because
many people within the clergy don t want to be there, many of them engage in corrupt behavior.
They engage in romantic relationships despite their vow to be celibate (Voltaire 24) (Voltaire
72). A member of the clergy preys preys on Candide when he is dying in Paris. The clergy
member tries to convince Candide to pay a large sum of money to receive absolution for his sins
(Voltaire 59 60). Requiring payment in exchange for absolution is corrupt behavior on the part of
the Catholic Church.
The Grand Inquisitor is also a corrupt character. As Grand Inquisitor, it is his job to cleanse Portugal
of heretics. Despite his responsibilities, the Grand Inquisitor enters into an agreement with Don
Issachar where he and Issachar share CunГ©gonde (Voltaire 18). One could correctly state that this
behavior as hypocritical, the inquisition persecutes the Jews yet the Grand Inquisitor enters into an
agreement with one. This behavior is also corrupt because access to CunГ©gonde is of person gain
to the Grand Inquisitor.
Corruption still exists in the world today. In 2014, it was exposed that the University of North
Carolina had offered a shadow curriculum to keep students (many of them athletes) from failing.

The Baroque era began in the year 1600, at the end of the Renaissance period (Kamien 99). The
word Baroque has had several different meanings. Back in its time, the word Baroque has meant:
Bizarre, Flamboyant, and Elaborately ornamented. Historians, however, used this word to indicate
the particular style in all different forms of art that fills space; which includes canvas, stone, or
sound (Kamien 99). The Baroque Period is also known as the age of absolutism because so many
different rulers of the time used and abused their royal power to control their subjects. For example,
in Germany, the duke of Weimar imprisoned the famous Johann Sebastian Bachinto prison for a
month just because Bach asked to leave his job as the Duke s musician (Kamien 99). This era in
time was also home to scientific discoveries by Newton and Galileo. The Baroque era has shaped
the world, as they knew it, to what the people of the twenty first century all know and love. In
music during the Baroque era, there were two composers that well represented the style of its
time, George Frideric Handel and Johann Sebastian Bach (Kamien 102). Bach was such an
important aspect to the Baroque era that when he died in 1750 it marked the end of the Baroque
era pushing the era into the Classical period (Kamien 102). Other famous

The Sirens In The Odyssey And Siren Song
Sirens are often viewed as birds with heads of women who have dashing voices. In both poems
and separate perspectives the reader gets a closer view of what a Siren actually is and how the
authors want them to be seen. In the Odyssey and the Siren Song , point of view, tone and imagery
define how the Sirens portrayal. Some differences and similarities help the reader view them.
Both poems share a first person point of view and their authors use different examples to portray
the Sirens. In the Odyssey, the reader obtains a bias from Odysseus and how he personally views
the Sirens. While in the Siren Song the reader acquires a point of view from a Siren herself. In
both poems they are portrayed as flattering to deceive. An example from the Odyssey is ... Show

Essay On Effects Of Discipline On Children
Spanking has a positive effect on children
For many years parents have been disciplining their children in various ways. Discipline is
required to train a child in doing what is right and staying away from what is wrong and
dangerous. Discipline has always been used in order for the child not to grow up spoiled and
choosy. Giving children what they want always is never a good thing, while teaching them that
they cannot have everything teaches them patience. Discipline is very critical in a child s life
because it is a determining factor on how that child is going to turn out in the future. People will
always relate bad parenting to a child s bad behaviour and good parenting to a good behaviour. So
how must parents discipline in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers also found out in a survey that 30% of parents believed that spanking was not
harmful to their children, 60% believed it harmful to their children, only 10% believed it would
lead to severe problems. These statistics raise a startling flag when you think of the nature of this
form of correction.
Parents should be learned about how their form of discipline affects their child because
punishment does not have a sense of discipline as the only outcome. Sometimes children are less
responsive to a certain form of discipline than others. It cannot be helped that a child is unique and
different from others. The child is also a factor in terms of discipline and punishment it is not solely
dependent on his/her parent and the way they discipline. There are other alternatives to punishing
the children for their bad behavior. Less severe punishment besides spanking. They can take away
their television privileges, computer use, and playing outside with their friends, they could ground
them for the weekend and cancel plans, or they could take the time to sit and talk to their children

Persuasive Speech On Killing By Poisons
Carson initiates a major environmental call to action to address the ongoing problem of farmers
harming birds. She persuades her audience of Americans in the 1960 s to stand along side her to
ban the use of deadly poisons that harm living creatures. Carson does so through her use of
negative diction, imagery and an ethical appeal. Carson wastes no time in characterizing farmers as
murderers who target birds. When drawing attention to the fact that the habit of killing grows and
farmers have adapted to killing by poison, she exposes the harsh practices of farmers. Carson also
forces her readers to understand that these pesticides are really weapons, using phrasing such as
chains of poisoning and target of poisons. Carson also adds that these poisons are deadly and
trigger a wave of death, an example being in 1959 when farmers caused the death of some 65,000
red winged blackbirds and starlings. She is disgusted by these recurrences and sends a strong
message to her audience that this must be stopped. Carson deliberately adds that these farmers
act as if they are on a mission of death just waging a needless war on blackbirds. How outlandish,
Carson reveals, is it for these grown men to act as if this is a balanced battle. Their actions are
especially horrible because they took to killing with poison when the problem could have been
solved easily with some agricultural changes. Carson characterizes farmers as murders to reveal
that they are horrible for

electric cars which use induction motor with inverters instead of use DC motor that can be
powered directly from their DC batteries. For example, tesla cars use ac motor instead of dc
motor. In the world, there are three main types of motors which be used in electric cars, Brush
DC motor, Brushless DC motor and induction motor. However, when companies design all the
electric vehicles, they will think about some parameters and these can be divided into 6 parts.
Firstly, in the efficiency part, when use dc controller with Brush DC motor, the efficiency of it is
94%. However, when Brushless DC motor and induction motor use inverters, the efficiency of
them are about 97%. Secondly, in the wear/service part, Brushes are subject to wear and require
periodic replacement and Brushless DC motor and induction motor are lifetime. Thirdly, in the
specific cost which includes cost of inverter part, the Brush DC motor is very low, because motor
and controller are generally inexpensive. The cost of Brushless DC motor is very

Essay on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion
Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) utilizes the
natural temperature difference in tropical regions to generate electricity. The idea of using the
ocean to generate electricity was proposed by a French physicist by the name of Jacques Arsene
d Arsonval in 1881. Georges Cluade who was one of d Arsonval students, built the first OTEC
power plant in Cuba. Cluade also built a second power plant in 1935 on a 10,000 ton cargo ship
which was moored off the coast of Brazil. Unfortunate events with weather and waves caused both
facilities to be destroyed before either could be net generators. The United States became interested
in OTEC technology in 1974 and built the Natural EnergyLaboratory of Hawaii Authority... Show

The steam then boils the low point boiling fluid, which drives the turbine to produce electricity. The
hybrid combined the vacuum portion of the open cycle system and uses the low point boiling fluid
like the closed cycle system. Unfortunately, there is no mass energy production for the Ocean
Thermal Energy Conversion but there has been a successful attempt in 1979, when Lockheed
Martin successfully built and operated over a three month period a net power mini OTEC
system which generated 50 kilowatts of net power off the Big Island of Hawaii. But the United
States is not the only country who is invested into OTEC systems, Japan has currently a closed
system OTEC plant that has generated 31.5 kilowatts of power during tests. The positives of the
OTEC system is monumental. Even if one tenth of one percent of the solar energy trapped by
the oceans could be converted into electricity, It would generate twenty times the amount of
electricity the United States use everyday. It could easily supply all the energy we wanted, said
Terry Penney, a lab program manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden,
Colo. The process is very low efficiency, just 2 or 3 or 4 percent, but all that energy s free. (qtd. in

Firewood the Burns the Hottest and the Longest Essay
Firewood that Burns the Hottest and the Longest
Purpose:
Does the species of wood affect the rate at which it burns and how much heat it gives off?
Hypothesis:
If the burning time and heat temperature relies on the type of wood, then oak and maple should
burn the longest and give off more heat because they are dense hardwoods.
Research:
The terms hardwood and softwood refer to the density of wood, how hard it is, and how much
weight it has. A dense hardwood like oak or maple has high energy content per cord, so it releases
more heat and produces long lasting embers. Hardwood is the best type of firewood for long
lasting warmth and cooking but can sometimes be hard to ignite and split ... Show more content on

Mummification throughout the World
Mummies of humans and animals have been found throughout the world. The most well known
culture for preserving the dead with mummification were the ancient Egyptians. Although
mummification existed before the Egyptians with mummies from northern Chile, the Egyptians
were focused on the prospect of eternal life, which meant preserving the body for life. The
earliest process of mummification took place as early as 3000 BC. Special priests worked as
embalmers, caring for and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers
to be performed at various stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human
anatomy. The first step in the process was to remove all internal parts that might decay quickly.
The brain was removed by carefully inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils
in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It was a hard job, one which a wrong move could easily
disfigure the face. The priest then removed the organs of the gut and chest through a cut usually
made on the left side of the abdomen, (except the heart) and stored in canopic jars. The skulls of
the dead would then be filled with a thick plant paste. It wasn t until the Middle Kingdom(2050
BC and 1652 BC) that the process began to take on a more advanced form. After removing organs
and the brain ,the caretakers would use natural salts to remove moisture from the bodies of the
dead, drying out flesh and bone. The emptied bodies were then covered in salt to

Setting For Treasure Island On The California Coast
As I ease into the yellowish water, sandy running shoes around my neck and small dog wriggling
under my arm, I become aware of a faint and unfamiliar sour musky odor. This better be worth it.
I expect it will be. One time Sonoma County resident Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have
developed the setting for Treasure Island on the California coast. For many of my generation and
older, that is the tale that launched a thousand ships, pirate vessels all, in dreams of sudden and
incalculable wealth. Decades later, any hope of sudden material wealth has slipped away like fog
under a midmorning sun. But a greater wealth hinted at in the book remains, even if it is only
attainable during the odd vacation week every year the wealth of enriching experience and wonder.
Which brings me back to the Sonoma coast and Gualala Point Regional Park. The park is a
County facility, and offers one of the shrinking number of public beaches where dogs are
welcome. Provided they are on six foot leashes, that is. Such a diminishment of the dog s world is
nothing compared to that of the snowy plover s. The plover is a six inch sandpiper, nearly invisible
in its shoreline environment, whose very existence is uncertain due to development of California s
coast and trampling of beaches and dunes and cryptic eggs in the sand. A dog s merry chase may
seem harmless no bird caught, ever and yet still doom another chance for a tiny bird s future.
So we were happy to be on the beach with our dogs,

The Devastation Of Hurricane Katrina
The devastation of Hurricane Katrina on the city of New Orleans sparked a national conversation
about who, or what, to blame for the disaster. There were inherent problems in how the chain of
command was structured for the response to the disaster, and issues with how the plan was
implemented. Furthermore, since the hurricane disproportionately devastated low income and
predominately African American neighborhoods, many questioned the equity of the
implementation plans. Additionally, historical causes for the disaster could not be overlooked. The
history of racial housing segregation and the embrace of leveepolicies that endangered the city were
also reasons why many blamed the federal and state governments for not anticipating the disaster...

Since the city has already bought into this concept extensively, increasing the height and durability
of the levees might be easier than creating a new system. In addition, this plan might be viewed
favorably by the Trump administration, which is eager to invest in infrastructure projects. Actors
that might object to this plan include the EPA and the people of New Orleans. This is because
even if the levee system were expanded, the system would continue to negatively impact the
wetlands and could potentially lead to larger problems in the future. Additionally, those living in
New Orleans who experienced the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina might be wary to
see a reinvestment in the system. Stone s theories of security notes that security can be defined
loosely as a freedom from fear . For those who lived through the hurricane, the levee failure
constitutes a significant fear. They might advocate for an approach that incorporates numerous

How Did Classical Architecture Affect The Italian Renaissance
The Italian renaissance was a time period that lasted from the fourteenth century to the sixteenth
century. Some of it s roots go back as far as the 1200s, but for the most part began in the 1300s.
The word Renaissance comes from the French word Rinascimento which translates to Rebirth in
French. Therefore the renaissancewas a time of great change, or rebirth, for Italy, and many other
European nations. Everything from art to theater to architecture was affected. There wasn t a single
aspect that was left unchanged. It was the changeover from the Gothic era to Early Modern Era.
Although there were all these new ideas going around, they were ideas based on classical teachings.
This movement began in Tuscany but flourished in Florenceand Sienna. The renaissance also
effected Rome in a great way. The renaissance revival was just as important in architecture as it was
in other aspects of the culture such as music and art. The Department of European Paintings at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art, state that the Italian Renaissance architects based their theories and

Its prosperous development of economy also draws labours from the rest of the state. However,
Catalans do not have the control of their own wealth. Every year Catalonia is taxed for about

The Rituals Of The Ancient Egyptian Civilization
The rituals pertaining to the ancient Egyptian civilization are both fascinating and the backbone for
modern funeral practices today. The funerary culture of the ancient Egyptians show some of the
earliest work in regards to the care of the deceased. While very little is known directly from the
Egyptians themselves, Ancient Greeks, historians and the myriad of finds thanks to past and
present archeology have helped shed light on the culture of embalmingand death care practices.
The ancient Egyptians lived life through a polytheistic religion where multiple gods were
worshipped for various needs. Osiris was the god of the dead and of the underworld, and
Anubis, the god of death. Their afterlife was much sought after, to be one with Osiris and live for
all of eternity that was claimed to be bigger and better than their mortal world. Some
interpretations showed what gave a person happiness and comfort in life would be blessed upon
them. If unworthy, life s pain, torture, and agony would be bestowed on them as an eternal
punishment. Another interpretation was the sinners would be banished to a world of darkness,
forever separated from the light and the gods. They would be forced to walk the ceilings of the
caves of the underworld and made to feast on the feces of the living. The worst punishment of all
was to be completely erased from existence, not a soul to remember them. Those in good favor

Historical Backdrop of Military Robots
The historical backdrop of military robots could be followed over to the times of World War II.
Throughout the time of World War II and the Cold War, these robots were as German Goliath

once again to the nineteenth century, absolutely in 1898. The history starts with the innovation of
radio controlled watercraft proposed for military use by Nicola Tesla. He offered his development
to US naval force to prepare radio controlled torpedoes yet the war fleet declined his offer. Later,
he offered his creation to the United Kingdom.
The following critical step that gives a defining moment in the historical backdrop of military

Danny s narration of a paper he is writing, it is learned that Derek was the leader of a large Neo
Nazi group known as D.O.C., or Disciples of Christ, that committed many acts of racial crime
throughout Los Angeles. During his time in prison Derek decides that hate is a waste of time
after being violently raped by fellow white supremacists, and his only friend being a black man,
who was only in prison for a misunderstanding. After getting out on parole, Derek learns that Danny
is headed down the same racist path as him, and decided that he must put a stop to it. Throughout
this film there are many examples of the five theories of deviance; Functional, Conflict, Labeling,
Broken Windows, and Differential Association. From Derek s initial exposure to racism, all the way
to him deciding to change, all five theories are exemplified through Derek, Danny, their Father,
Cameron, or the D.O.C. as a whole. To being, this movie shows Functional Theory by clarifying
rules, bringing groups together, and eventually promoting social change. By Derek being sent to
prison, it sets an example for not only Danny, but the entire gang, that being a Neo Nazi is wrong.
While no one heads the warning, it does show them that their actions could land them in jail.
Additionally, it also clarified social rules to the

Causes Of The American Revolution
The American Revolution is also famous as US independence war or the Revolutionary War. The
disagreement arose from rising stress between inhabitants of Great Britain s 13 North American
colonies and the regal government, which symbolizes the British crown. Skirmishes between
British crowds and regal militiamen in Lexington and Concord in 1775 kicked off the armed clash,
and by the subsequent summer, the radicals were shaking a full scale conflict for their
independence. France goes into the American Revolutionon the side of the migrant in 1778, rotating
what had fundamentally been a civil war into global conflict. After French aid helped the Army
strength the British admit defeat at Virginia, in 1781, the Americans had efficiently won their self
government, though warfare would not formally stop in anticipation of 1783 (Adams, G.B).
Land Campaigns To 1778
Americans fought the war ashore with fundamentally two sorts of affiliation: the Army and the
state nonmilitary personnel armed forces. The total number of the past gave by partitions from the
states all through the conflict was 231,771 men, and the non military personnel armed forces
164,087. At any given time, the American every at the present and next 20000 there were purely

The United States And Latin America
When looking at the history between the United States and Latin America, you see many
interactions between them, all that aided the relationship that they have today. Despite that the
United States and Latin America are in the same part of the world, the beliefs in which they govern
may differ. This difference has often been seen playing a major role in the disputes that have
occurred in past. The United Statesand Latin America have faced many social, economical and
governing barriers in forming a strong and positive relationship in the early twentieth century, this
is due to the differences that the two had between cultures and the constant demand for power.
However, the two countries have found ways to meet in the middle of their cultural differences, to
form an equally fair relationship.
At the start of the 19th century, just a few years prior to the end of the Spanish American War,
Latin America was left with a poor economy and in debt. The United States believed that they
could help Latin America, while helping themselves out at the same time. The Dollar Diplomacy
was introduced in 1904 by the United Sates and went into place in 1909. It was used mostly
during presidency William Howard Taft s from 1910 to 1913
The Dollar Diplomacy had the United States pay the debts that Latin America had to other countries
from previous loans. In return the United States had an opportunity to sell American goods in the
Latin America market, which would unknowingly expand American

Aesthetic Analysis
Aesthetics is the branch of philosophy that asks questions about the nature of art and beauty. The
Classical definition of art is the good, the true, the beautiful. Art equals something that is beautiful
then it is true and leads the person experiencing it, to the good. While this may be the classical
definition of art it is not quite accurate. To think that something is true and good just because it is
beautiful is not right. There are three critiques of this definition which define art in a different
light. Leo Tolstoy defines one as romantic art; The essence of a work of art is the emotionit causes
to an audience. It makes everyone feel as one because they are all feeling the same emotion.
Malcolm Bradbury defines modern art as a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You have to listen to the meaning behind the note. As with John Coltrane s A Love Supreme he
wrote this song with four parts to it describing a religious experience he went through fighting
drug addiction. The first part Acknowledgement the start of the saxophone is like a deep breath,
the beats of the piano and drums start creating a feeling of almost tranquility in knowing love
exists and there is hope. The next part Resolution starts out quiet and faint, then a loud saxophone
blares and the drums and piano all come in at the same time almost chaotically. This showing the
struggle in his head most likely when he was going through withdraws and was having a rough
time staying committed. The third part pursuance the drums start and increase more rapidly, and
more rapidly simulating a person running, chasing the love supreme he is looking for. The final
part Psalm has the slower, calmer sounds of the saxophone and piano creating a sense of calm and
happiness like he has accomplished his goal in overcoming his addictions and he is praising! Just
these simple note to this song if one didn t pay attention could miss the story Coltrane is telling and
the emotions he went through. The last piece of music is a song written by Abe Meeropol a jewish

  • 2. The Reflection Of The Lesson Of Engineering Concepts 1.What was the focus of the lesson? The focus of this lesson was the STEAM skill, engineering. This lesson of engineering phrases was taught to a group of eighteen kindergarten students at Bartlett Elementary on November 16, 2017. The entirety of this lesson lasted roughly forty five minutes. 2.How did the teacher introduce the lesson? Did the teacher specifically let the students know what they would know or be able to do by the end of the lesson? When introducing the lesson, the teacher Mrs. Taylor, started off by having the students recount what they had done in the previous class (which was one week before this lesson). Mrs. Taylor called on students who told her that last week they read the story, The Three Little Pigs, and that they built homes for their own pigs. Another student brought up the fact that they each worked as a team, with the students at their table, to build their homes. Mrs. Taylor then asked the students what where the three materials provided to build their homes. The students replied that two groups each got one of the materials which was straw, sticks, or bricks. Mrs. Taylor then passed out a worksheet to the students, asking them to grab a pencil and to write their names using the dotted lines, and top and bottom lines located at the top of the page. Then Mrs. Taylor had the students circle which of the materials that their group used to build their homes. To help the students remember, Mrs. Taylor walked over to a table and brought each group their houses, so that they would remember. Once the students circled their material, they then had to draw a picture of their home on the box located in the bottom left of the worksheet. While students were drawing, Mrs. Taylor walked around and was asking students about their homes (structures) and if they think they could stand up to the Big Bad Wolf. Once the majority of the students were done drawing their picture, Mrs. Taylor told the students what they would be doing next, which was that each group s home would go up against the Big Bad Wolf, which was just a higher powered electric fan. Before moving over the fan Mrs. Taylor asked the students the following, Is this your first time building a house? All of the students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Extending the Role of a Pharmacist The role of a pharmacist is to ensure that the right medication reaches those who depend on it by making their welfare the center of their practice. At the same time they should attempt not to ignore their moral beliefs because it is important for pharmacists to have their right to refusal to maintain professional ethics required in this field. While pharmaceutical drugs have the potential to alleviate the symptoms of a life threatening disease or aid someone in everyday life, unfortunately there are millions of Americans who abuse or take advantage of the benefits that can come from prescription drugs. Those who are against the expanded role of a pharmacist claim that these professionals have no right to interfere in the decisions made between a physician and his or her patient and that pharmacists have gone too far in exercising their power of refusal. Cynthia Dailard of the Guttmacher Report on Public Policy 8, states in this article that pharmacists have the power to refuse birth control pills on moral or religious grounds which, for example, might lead to the struggle of many women not ready to be a mother. According to Julie Cantor and Ken Baum of The Limits of Conscientious Objection in a profession that is bound by fiduciary obligation...it is unacceptable to leave patients by their own standards to fend for themselves. Thus a medical professional should not judge a patient because they do not know there history and using that as a basis for objection is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Because college student athletes bring so much to the table in their commitments, there has been an increased discussion on if college athletes should be paid. Johnson and Acquaviva make the point that between weight training sessions, film room, practice, individual workouts, travel, and finally competition, these student athletes cannot feel much like students. (Brill 7) This further validates the point that college athletes should be paid if they are spending so much time on athletics, and helping the school earn money along the way. If college athletes were paid, it would motivate them competitively as well because the revenue the program brings in is partially based off performance for signing TV deals and getting bids to postseason games that earn more money for the school. The more successful a team is, the more money they will be able to negotiate for in TV deals and the more likely they get bids to play in post season games to generate extra revenue. Universities also make a fortune off of selling Since the players are the source for this revenue by playing in these games, they would be even more competitively driven to perform their very best because as a result they would get paid more money and generate more money for the school at the same time. Consider the peacock s tail, the robin s red breast, the jay s bright blue, and the multi hued mallard duck all in stark contrast to the dull, drab, earth tones of the female of each of those species. The scientific literature, from elementary school textbooks to graduate students theses, is full of many reasons why this is so, ranging from mating practices to the protection of the offspring from danger. In each instance, seeing red, as opposed to any of the other colors used (gray, green, black, or white) led participants to worse performance and more performance anxiety. Reflection On Micro Teaching This essay will analyse and highlight on the fifteen minute micro teaching reflection that is vital for the self evaluation and professional development of my teaching practice. It will further identify my strengths and weaknesses through my peer assessment and reflect on the teaching and learning theories, methods and strategies that are linked and practiced in my micro teach. According to the teachers standards (DfE, 2012) teachers make the education of their learners their first concern, keep their knowledge up to date and are self critical. Therefore, this reflection practice will guide me towards the improvement on my lesson planning strategies and delivery. In addition, it will also make an enormous difference in my teaching and learning practice which is vital for teacher training. One of the significant part of this course is micro teaching session, in this session we are required to deliver fifteen minute planned lesson containing learning outcome. Due to my interest in ESOL I decided to deliver my session on Boogle Puzzle to embed a simple literacy/numeracy activity aims to target ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) learners. In this task, pupils are given activity to make seven ten words in the English language from the word grid to improve word recognition and spellings. I used present, practice and produce strategy (English language resource, 2017) to allow pupils to practice and learn new vocabulary in co operative way. The term Spaghetti Western became popular in the mid 60 s in which A Fistful of Dollars was released as the first film of a trilogy, but this was not Sergio Leone s first western movie. Leone s films were not of a typical American western that had been released in previous years, but instead a reaction or his own take of the Westernfrontier and through many aspects of his films we can see influences from Italian cinematic styles and approaches. This was an interesting time for the western film industry as John Wayne was sick with lung cancer and had a lung removed in 1964. Other notable stars in the Western genre were filming other productions and this was a perfect time for Leone to introduce his Western films from his approach. Between 1950 and 1963 the production of Westerns in Hollywood had gone from 34 percent of all features released, to a mere 9 percent in 1963 from about 150 films to 15. As a result, Europeans began to produce their own westerns and in the process revitalized the old stories with distinctive elements and hybrid forms. Although it is illegal for anyone to listen or record regular phone calls, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act excludes commonplace business calls (Maltby, 2013). This means the employer can record or listen phone calls made about business. Sometimes employers make employees sign forms to consent to phone calls being monitored. Another exception to this act is if the employee has consented to be monitored (Mika, 2012). There are limits to the Electronic Communications Privacy Act (Maltby, 2013). It can be said that it is in the nature of all of us, human beings, to make mistakes. Of course, there are different kinds of mistakes; there are some that are innocent and harmless and others that can affect ourselves and/ or other people s lives. Still, it is mainly by making this second type of mistakes that we can learn important life lessons. They can help us to identify our flaws, and thus help us mature and achieve personal growth. The topic is quite controversial, as its merits and effectiveness as a deterrent for crime have been argued many times over. However, the death penalty is perfectly within reason, as it rids the streets of criminals that have committed serious crimes and is also cheaper for the government versus giving life sentences. Even so, there are many who are against the death penalty. One such argument that has been made is that the death penalty is barbaric because many innocents have been sent to their deaths. Although this would be true if these opposers lived before 1986, that is not the case in today s world considering there is access to DNAtests and profiling. According to www.interpol.int, Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules contain the information all living cells in the human body need to function. DNA profiling plays an important role in crimes as it has the potential to link a series of crimes and to place a suspect at the scene of a crime. The observations I have made about Argentina as a rich country made poor by the mismanagement of capitalist policies, the subsequent consequences of poverty and unemployment, and the eventual expropriation of business by factory workers, can be theorized by Marx s concepts of the labour theory of value, estranged labour, and religion as the opium of the people . The people and activity that fall in between the spectrum of extreme opposites of division of labour and no division of labour, of bourgeoisie oppressing the proletariats and the proletariats being oppressed, are being ignored by Marx s theory of class antagonism. A few of those arguments are; there isn t enough gold on earth for a gold standard, gold will tie a governments hands and prevent growth, or how gold shows too much price volatility to be a reliable anchor, but the 21st century gold standardchallenges the validity of those arguments. In Steve Forbes and Elizabeth Ames book, Money: How the Destruction of the Dollar Threatens the Global Economy and What We Can Do About It, they do a wonderful job describing the biggest fears people have if the United States returns to a gold standard (Forbes and Ames 155). The first concern is that there isn t enough gold in the world to have a gold standard today. Based on today s global economy, including the U.S monetary base, that is correct but doesn t much matter. Having a piece of gold for every dollar on earth is a general misconception. Gold doesn t have to be based on the global supply. It must be used as a stable yard stick of value (147). Lack of knowledge of gold backed currency is the reason people are so afraid. There are plenty of countries that don t have an ounce of gold. As long as gold is used as a measurement tool, those countries can tie their currency to the U.S. dollar, which is then tied to gold. • 20. Theme Of Corruption In Candide In Candide, Voltaire satirizes many forces within society that he believes are unjust. Unfortunately, many of the forces still exist today. In my opinion, the force that has caused the most pain and suffering in Candide as well as in society today is corruption. Webster defines corruption as dishonest or illegal behavior, especially by powerful people. Typically the intention of corruption is some kind of personal gain. In Candide as well as today s world, people use their power and influence over others for their own gain. Voltaire satirizes the clergyas consisting of pleasure seeking, deceitful individuals masquerading as a holy priesthood. A reason for this behavior is that during this time, the clergy was the only way for younger sons to lead a respectable life. As a result, according to Friar GiroflГ©e jealousy, discord, and rage inhabit the monastery and at the end of the day he wants to smash his head against the dormitory walls and all my colleagues are in the same state (Voltaire 74). Because many people within the clergy don t want to be there, many of them engage in corrupt behavior. They engage in romantic relationships despite their vow to be celibate (Voltaire 24) (Voltaire 72). A member of the clergy preys preys on Candide when he is dying in Paris. The clergy member tries to convince Candide to pay a large sum of money to receive absolution for his sins (Voltaire 59 60). Requiring payment in exchange for absolution is corrupt behavior on the part of the Catholic Church. The Grand Inquisitor is also a corrupt character. As Grand Inquisitor, it is his job to cleanse Portugal of heretics. Despite his responsibilities, the Grand Inquisitor enters into an agreement with Don Issachar where he and Issachar share CunГ©gonde (Voltaire 18). One could correctly state that this behavior as hypocritical, the inquisition persecutes the Jews yet the Grand Inquisitor enters into an agreement with one. This behavior is also corrupt because access to CunГ©gonde is of person gain to the Grand Inquisitor. Corruption still exists in the world today. Historians, however, used this word to indicate the particular style in all different forms of art that fills space; which includes canvas, stone, or sound (Kamien 99). The Baroque Period is also known as the age of absolutism because so many different rulers of the time used and abused their royal power to control their subjects. • 24. Essay On Effects Of Discipline On Children Spanking has a positive effect on children For many years parents have been disciplining their children in various ways. Discipline is required to train a child in doing what is right and staying away from what is wrong and dangerous. Discipline has always been used in order for the child not to grow up spoiled and choosy. Giving children what they want always is never a good thing, while teaching them that they cannot have everything teaches them patience. Discipline is very critical in a child s life because it is a determining factor on how that child is going to turn out in the future. People will always relate bad parenting to a child s bad behaviour and good parenting to a good behaviour. So how must parents discipline in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The researchers also found out in a survey that 30% of parents believed that spanking was not harmful to their children, 60% believed it harmful to their children, only 10% believed it would lead to severe problems. These statistics raise a startling flag when you think of the nature of this form of correction. Parents should be learned about how their form of discipline affects their child because punishment does not have a sense of discipline as the only outcome. Sometimes children are less responsive to a certain form of discipline than others. It cannot be helped that a child is unique and different from others. The child is also a factor in terms of discipline and punishment it is not solely dependent on his/her parent and the way they discipline. There are other alternatives to punishing the children for their bad behavior. Less severe punishment besides spanking. They can take away their television privileges, computer use, and playing outside with their friends, they could ground them for the weekend and cancel plans, or they could take the time to sit and talk to their children about their bad ... • 25. Persuasive Speech On Killing By Poisons Carson initiates a major environmental call to action to address the ongoing problem of farmers harming birds. She persuades her audience of Americans in the 1960 s to stand along side her to ban the use of deadly poisons that harm living creatures. Carson does so through her use of negative diction, imagery and an ethical appeal. Carson wastes no time in characterizing farmers as murderers who target birds. When drawing attention to the fact that the habit of killing grows and farmers have adapted to killing by poison, she exposes the harsh practices of farmers. Carson also forces her readers to understand that these pesticides are really weapons, using phrasing such as chains of poisoning and target of poisons. Carson also adds that these poisons are deadly and trigger a wave of death, an example being in 1959 when farmers caused the death of some 65,000 red winged blackbirds and starlings. She is disgusted by these recurrences and sends a strong message to her audience that this must be stopped. Carson deliberately adds that these farmers act as if they are on a mission of death just waging a needless war on blackbirds. How outlandish, Carson reveals, is it for these grown men to act as if this is a balanced battle. Their actions are especially horrible because they took to killing with poison when the problem could have been solved easily with some agricultural changes. Carson characterizes farmers as murders to reveal that they are horrible for ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This inverter will be intended to drive an induction motor which may need to drive. The work will involve simulation study of PWM generators, induction motors and device selected from. Introduction, motivation and problem statement. Introduction Nowadays, some electric cars which use induction motor with inverters instead of use DC motor that can be powered directly from their DC batteries. For example, tesla cars use ac motor instead of dc motor. In the world, there are three main types of motors which be used in electric cars, Brush DC motor, Brushless DC motor and induction motor. However, when companies design all the electric vehicles, they will think about some parameters and these can be divided into 6 parts. Firstly, in the efficiency part, when use dc controller with Brush DC motor, the efficiency of it is 94%. However, when Brushless DC motor and induction motor use inverters, the efficiency of them are about 97%. Secondly, in the wear/service part, Brushes are subject to wear and require periodic replacement and Brushless DC motor and induction motor are lifetime. Thirdly, in the specific cost which includes cost of inverter part, the Brush DC motor is very low, because motor and controller are generally inexpensive. The cost of Brushless DC motor is very ... • 27. Essay on Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion Ocean thermal energy conversion (OTEC) utilizes the natural temperature difference in tropical regions to generate electricity. The idea of using the ocean to generate electricity was proposed by a French physicist by the name of Jacques Arsene d Arsonval in 1881. Georges Cluade who was one of d Arsonval students, built the first OTEC power plant in Cuba. Cluade also built a second power plant in 1935 on a 10,000 ton cargo ship which was moored off the coast of Brazil. Unfortunate events with weather and waves caused both facilities to be destroyed before either could be net generators. The steam then boils the low point boiling fluid, which drives the turbine to produce electricity. The hybrid combined the vacuum portion of the open cycle system and uses the low point boiling fluid like the closed cycle system. Unfortunately, there is no mass energy production for the Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion but there has been a successful attempt in 1979, when Lockheed Martin successfully built and operated over a three month period a net power mini OTEC system which generated 50 kilowatts of net power off the Big Island of Hawaii. But the United States is not the only country who is invested into OTEC systems, Japan has currently a closed system OTEC plant that has generated 31.5 kilowatts of power during tests. The positives of the OTEC system is monumental. Even if one tenth of one percent of the solar energy trapped by the oceans could be converted into electricity, It would generate twenty times the amount of electricity the United States use everyday. It could easily supply all the energy we wanted, said Terry Penney, a lab program manager at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, Colo. Firewood the Burns the Hottest and the Longest Essay Firewood that Burns the Hottest and the Longest Purpose: Does the species of wood affect the rate at which it burns and how much heat it gives off? Hypothesis: If the burning time and heat temperature relies on the type of wood, then oak and maple should burn the longest and give off more heat because they are dense hardwoods. Research: The terms hardwood and softwood refer to the density of wood, how hard it is, and how much weight it has. The most well known culture for preserving the dead with mummification were the ancient Egyptians. Although mummification existed before the Egyptians with mummies from northern Chile, the Egyptians were focused on the prospect of eternal life, which meant preserving the body for life. The earliest process of mummification took place as early as 3000 BC. Special priests worked as embalmers, caring for and wrapping the body. Beyond knowing the correct rituals and prayers to be performed at various stages, the priests also needed a detailed knowledge of human anatomy. The first step in the process was to remove all internal parts that might decay quickly. The brain was removed by carefully inserting special hooked instruments up through the nostrils in order to pull out bits of brain tissue. It was a hard job, one which a wrong move could easily disfigure the face. The priest then removed the organs of the gut and chest through a cut usually made on the left side of the abdomen, (except the heart) and stored in canopic jars. The skulls of the dead would then be filled with a thick plant paste. It wasn t until the Middle Kingdom(2050 BC and 1652 BC) that the process began to take on a more advanced form. Setting For Treasure Island On The California Coast As I ease into the yellowish water, sandy running shoes around my neck and small dog wriggling under my arm, I become aware of a faint and unfamiliar sour musky odor. This better be worth it. I expect it will be. One time Sonoma County resident Robert Louis Stevenson is said to have developed the setting for Treasure Island on the California coast. For many of my generation and older, that is the tale that launched a thousand ships, pirate vessels all, in dreams of sudden and incalculable wealth. Decades later, any hope of sudden material wealth has slipped away like fog under a midmorning sun. But a greater wealth hinted at in the book remains, even if it is only attainable during the odd vacation week every year the wealth of enriching experience and wonder. Which brings me back to the Sonoma coast and Gualala Point Regional Park. The park is a County facility, and offers one of the shrinking number of public beaches where dogs are welcome. Provided they are on six foot leashes, that is. Such a diminishment of the dog s world is nothing compared to that of the snowy plover s. The plover is a six inch sandpiper, nearly invisible in its shoreline environment, whose very existence is uncertain due to development of California s coast and trampling of beaches and dunes and cryptic eggs in the sand. There were inherent problems in how the chain of command was structured for the response to the disaster, and issues with how the plan was implemented. Furthermore, since the hurricane disproportionately devastated low income and predominately African American neighborhoods, many questioned the equity of the implementation plans.
