Hazardous Location Protection Methods Explained.
By definition, a hazardous (classified) location is an area in an industrial complex where the atmosphere contains flammable concentrations of gases or vapors by leakage, or ignitable concentrations of dust or fibers by suspension or dispersion.
The treatment of dangerous substances, where the risk of explosion or fire exists that can be caused by an electrical spark, arc, or hot temperatures, requires specifically defined instrumentation located in a hazardous location. It also requires that interfacing signals coming from a hazardous location be unable to create the necessary conditions to ignite and propagate an explosion.
Fire Alarm Systems fall broadly into two groups - Conventional Systems or Analogue Addressable Systems.
• Conventional Fire Alarm Control System
• Analogue Addressable Fire Alarm System

Introduction to Functional Safety and SIL CertificationISA Boston Section
This overview session will acquaint attendees with the key concepts in the IEC 61508 standard for functional safety of electrical/electronic and programmable electronic systems. An introduction is provided to safety integrity levels (SIL), the safety lifecycle and the requirements needed to achieve a functional safety certificate. Information will be provided on documentation requirements and an introduction to the basic objectives of product design for functional safety.
A Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) / Fire Alarm Control Unit (FACU), is an electric panel that is the controlling component of a fire alarm system which is installed at various places as a protective measure against fire; sounds an alarm when actuated by a fire detection system. Fire Alarm System is essential to warn all occupants that a fire or emergency situation exists. Sometimes fire detection and alarm systems are used to compensate or to give special cover for items of high value. In case of fire early detection of smoke and heat helps in fighting the fire effectively & extinguishing it in nascent stage. Thus by early detection, we can prevent the fire from spreading in turn saving life and loss of property and business.

ANTI-INTRUSION SYSTEMS
While comfort is a priority in all modern homes, security of its inhabitants and of their property is essential.Security from possible intrusions while at home and the ability to report danger to law enforcement are crucial for living your home in a sound and peaceful manner.
The he¡ security system allows you to control access to every room of the house, to report danger to designated telephone numbers and control the array of functions remotely via SMS. Moreover, thanks to the terminal graphical interface, which shows the floor plan of the house and position of the alarm detectors, using the alarm system is a simple and intuitive task even dealing with a vast and complex system.
The system also reports technical alarms from gas and water leak detectors to prevent any structural damage to the building.Home, people and property always safe!

With an installed base approaching 4 million nodes IO-Link is THE protocol for communication down to the sensor and actuator level. This presentation will be covering what a typical IO-Link solution consists of, how it interfaces to the control system and the benefits that can be derived from this increased level of communication with IO-Link devices. These include: easier handling of measurement signals, remote and automatic device parameterisation, smart sensor diagnostic functions, safety over IO-Link whilst also being an enabler for Industrial IoT and Industry 4.0 strategies.

35. 50
Hot swap in three key points
1 - No switching off
Switchin off an F&G system means actuate the
whole process shut down procedure with
consequent down time and loss of production
2 - All the rest keeps on working
When replacing a module all other safety
functions are fully guaranteed. If the module is
installed with redundancy its safety function is
guaranteed too.
3 - No need for re-programming
The new module configuration is automatically
updated by the main CPUs. Anyone can execute
the repair.
36. 51
Hot swap in three steps
1 – Take the module out
Undo the screws and remove the module.
(Silence the buzzer if annoying)
2 – Put the new module in
Slide the module and screw.
3 – Wait for the update
Automatic update is a matter of a few seconds
depending on the module type and complexity of
its configuration. When update is finished the
fault(s) indication goes away.
37. 52
Cards can be redundant
On the same control panel can coexist:
Redundant links (SIL3)
• Detectors for high risks
• Alarm buttons in hazard area
• Evacuation area horns
Non redundant links (SIL2 or non SIL)
• Smoke and fire detectors (safety) for
building
• Addressable I/O modules for building
