A NING as an LMS 1
• I started thinking about NINGs as
learning management systems
after joining the EFLclassroom2.0
community.
As a member there you can set up
private class accounts for your
students and use it as a blogging,
multi-media and communication
network.

A NING as an LMS 2
• I find it interesting to see who
dares to post first, and who
tends to wait until the last
minute to take advantage of
the accumulated wisdom (I
assume that's why the late
posts - not because they forgot
to do their homework!)
Plus, a NING page can be
(visually) beautiful. I think
that's a big plus for kids. It
LOOKS interesting and
inviting.
The most interesting thing about
the NING format for me is that
the "story", or evidence of
learning and growth, accumulates
as time goes on. The teacher is
posting assignments as forum
topics, and each student its to
respond to that post. All students
can read each other's thoughts,
and build on them.

  • 10. Page 10 Designing the LMS • Does it look like a playground? • Does it have brain- friendly colours and visuals? • Does it have a clear, simple interface? • Does it have a minimum of user- friendly collaborative tools?
  • 11. Page 11 A NING as an LMS 1 • I started thinking about NINGs as learning management systems after joining the EFLclassroom2.0 community. As a member there you can set up private class accounts for your students and use it as a blogging, multi-media and communication network. • Quote from David Deubelbeiss, founder of EFL classroom 2.0 • “ For me, it is a labor of love and curiosity. Yes, we definitely need spaces where students can collect and have a home, a home for their mind. It's all about curation for me and stirring the soup and for teachers to have a place that doesn't die and has history and depth.”

Page 12 A NING as an LMS 2 • I find it interesting to see who dares to post first, and who tends to wait until the last minute to take advantage of the accumulated wisdom (I assume that's why the late posts - not because they forgot to do their homework!) Plus, a NING page can be (visually) beautiful. I think that's a big plus for kids. It LOOKS interesting and inviting. The most interesting thing about the NING format for me is that the "story", or evidence of learning and growth, accumulates as time goes on. The teacher is posting assignments as forum topics, and each student its to respond to that post. All students can read each other's thoughts, and build on them. (copied from a thread discussion)
