that reside in Oceania, on the islands of Samoa, in an area of Polynesia. Samoa has been
occupied by these indigenous people for about 3000 years, when they came from the west,
occupying the islands of Fiji and Tonga around the same time (Barnes and Hunt 2005, 243). They
carry many traditions with their culture, however, I will be discussing their tradition of tattooing.
Tattooing is the process of inserting ink pigment into someone s skin to create a permanent design
on them. For Samoans, tattoos are much more significant than just a pretty piece of artwork, they

one example of a person in history who led a successful life.

One day when I was wandering around Bowers Museum, I came across nine oversized paintings
shown in an exhibition made entirely by one extraordinary 69 year old Buddhist monk in Nepal
named Shashi Dhoj Tulachan, a second generation thangka artist living. The practice of thangka art
has been around for centuries and is carried out by highly trained monks for the purpose of teaching
about Buddha and the tenets of the Buddhist religion. The paintings attracted me because they were

Her work has come to represent the Mexican and Chicano culture extremely well, and she has
become the voice for this culture full of people that sometimes choose not to speak up. The short
story, Only Daughter , follows a girl, who is presumed to be Cisneros, as she tries to deal with a
life of solitude and the disapproval of her father. Through being the only daughter in a family of
nine, it is expected that Cisneros would grow up to be a wife, and that was the ultimate goal, but
soon she tells her father of her plans to go to college, and he agrees. Little does she know, that his
mindset is elsewhere, thinking that if she goes to college she will find a good and educated
husband, and not that she would become an educated woman herself. After Cisneros graduates,
without a husband in sight, the father s disapproval creeps back into the picture and one can see
Cisneros struggle to make him proud again. After 10 years of writing professionally, a story
written by Cisneros is translated into Spanish and her father is able to read her work for the first
time. The story is titled Tepeyac and it is about the colony in which her father grew up. Finally we
see the approval in Cisneros father when he asks if they can get more copies for the relatives, this
is the ultimate sign that confirms what Cisneros wanted her entire life, the approval of her father.

When the male plants are removed from growth sites, females cannot be pollinated and continue
to produce resinous flowers. These flowers can then be harvested, dried and cured, and are

How do this corporations manage such an extensive number of stores? How do they all look and
act the same?

Enterprise, these large corporations need a hierarchy of field managers that will effectively lead all
stores. To manage large enterprises there needs to be a certain order, this is where the different
management hierarchies come in. Every single step up the ladder has a larger responsibility and
