Famous for controversial work such as the
film/music video “born free” for M.I.A and “No
church in the Wild” by Jay Z and Kanye West. His
opinions towards short films and music videos
summarized states that he feels “nobody cares
about short films”, and that music videos in the pop
genre do not truly reflect what cultural
appropriation is. After applying Goodwin's theory to
the music video of for 'Jamie xx' song "Gosh", I
began researching into the director.

He felt his music video for the Jamie xx song "Gosh"
had amazing cultural appropriation. Personally, I
think that the video's visuals are on a level I have not
seen in other music videos. The colour used,
combined with the complexity of his shot choice
make the piece a form of art in my opinion. The way
he provokes the audience without a narrative is
unlike other work, especially in music videos.
Overall, I intend to use the same style of provocation
in my product, that makes the audience think
deeply about the content what they are watching. As
well as this, I want to achieve the same provoking
and intriguing visuals, but on a smaller scale.
