This document discusses an alternative barrier system called rolling barriers that was created by a Korean company to help reduce road accidents. Rolling barriers are made of special rubber compounds that absorb collision impacts through flexibility and rotation rather than rigidity. A trial installation of rolling barriers in South Korea led to a 50% reduction in accidents on the roads where they were used. The barriers work by absorbing shock through the rollers and redirecting vehicles back onto the road. They are cheaper and easier to maintain than traditional barriers but may require more frequent inspections in high heat.
