RACER REPORT
“BOBBY” KIMBALL
GEARING UP
IT’S BEEN A LONG JOURNEY of school, jobs,
an internship, and numerous trips to the desert,
track, and stadium that inspired Bobby to pursue
a career in sports marketing. Born and raised in
southern California, there isn’t a time you won’t
find him enjoying the sand, surf, or sun. As a
graduate from Cal Poly Pomona with a bachelor’s
degree in Entertainment Marketing, Bobby
strives to enter the marketing industry with fresh
ideas, persistence, and a willingness to learn
from those around him.
When did you first realize you wanted to get
into entertainment marketing?
Good question! I remember many years ago
when I was around five or six years old I attended
my first AMA supercross race at the LA Coliseum
and watched my favorite racer, Jeremy McGrath,
take the championship title. Witnessing the
excitement on everyone’s face around me, I
found the path I wanted to pursue in life. Last
year, I had the opportunity to meet and shake
hands with McGrath himself, which is something
I had always dreamt about as a kid. My career
goal is to instill into others the same feeling I
had, shaking his hand, smiling from ear to ear.
What activities are you interested in yourself?
I spend most of my free time outside, whether it’s
visiting the nearest golf course or taking a ride
on my mountain bike. Although, what I enjoy
most is to pack up for the weekend with my
family and head to the desert for uninterrupted
memorable moments.
With all those individual sports, how did you
learn the skills necessary to become such a
team player?
Thanks to my father enrolling me in Boy Scouts,
I learned to be a team player at a young age.
Working together with my scoutmaster and
patrol leader, I learned all the skills I needed to
achieve the rank myself. Throughout college,
I worked on multiple teams. This included
executive council in my fraternity, various
class projects, and working with associates
during my contracting job in the summer.
What would you say is your greatest
achievement?
When I was younger I earned the rank of Eagle
Scout, and only 2% of those who join scouts
achieve this honor. For years I earned merit
badges, climbed to the top of Mt. Whitney
and helped with countless community service
projects, including one I organized myself
with over 40 volunteers and a combined 600
hours of service. This was not only my greatest
achievement because of the badge I earned, but
because the of person I became from it.
Off the track, what are some areas you could
improve on?
As an ambitious new graduate and with not
much professional work experience, I may
tend to take on too many tasks at once. This is
something I will continue to work on throughout
my career. Well that, and my dancing abilities!
...and what areas do you excel in?
From past work experience, I learned to work
in a fast paced environment, gained excellent
communication skills, can keep myself organized,
work diligently, and get along great with others.
