Hitler came to power in Germany through his powerful charisma and ability to influence crowds with his speeches. He joined the Nazi party in 1919 and became their chief of propaganda, developing their 25-point program. In 1923, he led the Beer Hall Putsch but was imprisoned after it failed. While in prison, he wrote Mein Kampf. After his release and with Germany struggling with the Great Depression, he used his skills to deliver rousing speeches that increased his popularity and the Nazi party's power. They became the largest party in 1932, and in 1933 Hitler was appointed Chancellor of Germany, allowing him to consolidate power over the next years and establish a Nazi dictatorship by 1934.
