Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate By Laura Esquivel
In Laura Esquivel s novel Like Water for Chocolate , she skillfully illustrates that love is a powerful
that can either make or break us. The author portrays this conflict through The use of descriptive
metaphors and indirect symbolism. As Esquivel describes the inner emotions of Tita; the main
protagonist, through the use of descriptive metaphors she asserts that The anger she felt within her
acted like yeast on bread dough. She felt it s rapid rising flowing into every last recess of her body;
like yeast in a small bowl, it spilled over to the outside, escaping in the form of steam through her
ears, nose, and all her pores (Esquivel 149). Her use of metaphors enable the reader to visualize Tita s
anger and frustration by relating them to food items. The way Esquivel is very descriptive when
expressing the emotions of Tita convey the mood of resentment; because of the all too familiar feeling
of loving someone who you can not be with. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Whenever the love of her life; Pedro, moves away she is left feeling demoralized and has given up
hope on being with her true love. Since then Tita had lost all interest in life, except for her interest in
feeding worms to a helpless pigeon (Esquivel 87). Later in the chapter whenever Tita refuses to obey
her mother s rules, she get physically abused and seeks shelter from her mother in the dovecote where
the narrator states, Chencha found Tita holding the pigeon. She didn t seem to realize it was dead. She
was trying to feed it some more worms. The poor thing probably died of indigestion because Tita fed
it to much ( Esquivel 100). The pigeon is an indirect symbol of Tita s desire to feel loved and to also
give love. Her actions of feeding the pigeon emphasize her need to feel loved. Her desire to feel loved

Foolishness In A Midsummer Night s Dream
Many people can be foolish because of the decisions they decide to make, surprisingly even fairies can
be fools. In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, fairies are just as fools as
humans can be. From Bottom turning into an ass. Puck s mistake in applying the love potion on the
wrong person. Oberon s decision to apply the love potion on his wife. By looking at the foolishness of
Bottom, Puck and Oberon, it is evident that Puck s statement Lord what fools these mortals be can
also be applied to fairies People unknowingly are constantly being a victim of something they weren t
unaware of. For Bottom he was transformed into an ass for a prank that he was unaware about. This
happens when Puck had a task to make Titania ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Oberon was so jealous over a boy that he decides to apply the potion on his own wife Titania, wanting
her to fall in love with the first ugly creature she see s. Oberon makes this decision because he gets
into a fight with Titania with how her attention is more towards the changeling boy then over him,
making him want to apply the potion. This is a foolish thing to do because Oberon should understand
that Titania is taking care of this baby because she feels like she owes the mother of the child, he
should know that the little boys need a lot of attention to be taken care of. Instead of feeling jealous,
he should of felt proud that his wife was doing a kind act. Instead he takes it in the wrong way, playing
a mean prank on his wife and making her fall in love with Bottom, to take away the changeling boy.
People are fools, even to their loved ones . As a result of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, they prove that
Puck s statement Lord what fools these mortals be can also be applied to fairies. Bottom shows that he
is fool with playing on with the tricks and actually thinking that a Queen loves him. Puck is a fool
because he applies the love potion on the wrong person making the plot change many times. Oberon is
a fool because instead of accepting the act of kindness his wife is doing, he is jealous. Fools are not
just in mortals, but in fairies

Equal Employment Opportunities In The US
Equal Employment Opportunities are a huge deal and there are many important milestones the US has
taken to get where we are today. Even though the working industry is not perfect and there are still
problems, the EEOC(Equal Employment Opportunities Commission) was created and helps to prevent
discrimination in employment. The EEOC was created by congress in 1964. It was passed after the
Civil Rights Act in 1964. This was written and states that discrimination in employment based on
color, national origin, race, religion, and sex is not allowed. Almost immediately after this was issued
as the law, the EEOC received thousands of complaints more than expected. It s crazy to think so
much discrimination in the workplace happens but the facts are

Generally, the lower a storage is in the hierarchy, the lesser its bandwidth and the greater its access
latency is from the CPU. This traditional division of storage to primary, secondary, tertiary and off line
storage is also guided by cost per bit. III. Hierarchy of storage A. Primary storage: Primary storage (or
main memory or internal memory), often referred to simply as memory, is the only one directly
accessible to the CPU. The CPU continuously reads instructions stored there and executes them as
required. Any data actively operated on is also stored there in uniform manner. Historically, early
computers used delay lines, Williams s tubes, or rotating magnetic drums as primary storage. By 1954,
those unreliable methods were mostly replaced by magnetic core memory. Core memory remained
dominant until the 1970s, when advances in integrated circuit technology allowed semiconductor
memory to become economically competitive. This led to modern random access memory (RAM). It
is small sized, light, but quite expensive at the same time. (The particular types of RAM used for
primary storage are also volatile, i.e. they lose the information when not powered). As the RAM types
used for primary storage are volatile (cleared at start up), a computer containing only such storage
would not have a source to read instructions from, in order to start the computer. Hence, non volatile
primary storage containing a small startup

Essay about Politics and Money
The late Alabama governor George Wallace once said, There s not a dime s worth of difference
between Republicans and Democrats. Both Republicans and Democrats agree on taking our money.
Where they differ is what to spend it on. A Democrat agrees to take our earnings and give them to
cities and poor people. A Republican agrees to take our earnings and give them to farmers and failing
businesses.
Republicans have dominated both houses of Congress since 1994, a year when federal spending was
$1.5 trillion. Less than a decade later federal spending in 2002 was over $2.1 trillion, a 37 percent
increase. Some politicians might argue that the war on terrorism has been responsible for the massive
spending increase. That s nonsense! According ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Giles insisted that it was neither the purpose nor the right of Congress to attend to what generosity and
humanity require, but to what the Constitution and their duty require.
In 1854, President Franklin Pierce vetoed a bill intended to help the mentally ill championed by the
renowned 19th century social reformer Dorothea Dix. In the face of scathing criticism, President
Pierce said, I cannot find any authority in the Constitution for public charity. To approve such
spending, President Pierce added, would be contrary to the letter and the spirit of the Constitution and
subversive to the whole theory upon which the Union of these States is founded.
President Grover Cleveland was the king of the veto. He vetoed literally hundreds of congressional
spending bills during his two terms as President in the late 1800s. His reason, as he often said: I can
find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution.
Many Americans erroneously believe that the Constitution s general welfare clause serves as
justification for congressional spending on anything they can muster a majority vote. That surely wasn

Business of Today
Introduction:
Section 2(13) of company s act defines a director may be defined as a person having control over the
direction, conduct, management, or superintendence of affairs of a company. Any person in
accordance with whose direction or instructions, the board of directors of a company is custom to act
is deemed to be a director of a company.
Section 2 (6) of the company s act states that the directors are collectively referred to as board of
directors are simply the borad.
Directors being pillars of corporate governance (Cowan, 2004) should at all times act honestly and use
reasonable diligence in the discharge of their duties. This is more so in light of recent major corporate

Section 4 of the Companies Act 1965 stated that the director of a company is a person who is chosen
to be the directors or alternate directors apart from the given name upon on their position (Rachagan,
2002). Director is not just only a person that formally selected to the office. Even though they are not
validly appointed, the s4 of the Act can as well consider certain persons to be directors, but only if the
contrary intention appears.
One of the duties that company directors need to comply with is fiduciary duties. This is so as
company directors are said to be in a fiduciary relationship with the company. When directors are in a
fiduciary relationship with the company, they are prohibited from doing any acts deemed prejudicial to
the company. In other words, by applying the judgment in Hospital Products Ltd v United States
Surgical Corpn, directors cannot and should not use his position to receive personal gains.
The traditional view is that the directors owed a fiduciary duty to the company. This is the reason why
directors are prohibited from receiving personal gain from their status as directors in a company. The
nature of the relationship i.e. fiduciary relationship between directors and a company rendered the
directors to act for the best interest of the company. This point can be supported by looking at Section
132(1) of the Companies Act 1965 which states that a director must act in bona fide when exercising
his powers for a proper purpose and

Tale Of Two Cities Literary Analysis
In the novel A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens establishes that revenge is sinful by using the
French Revolution s rebel peasants, fire, and water. Dickens discreetly uses fire and water in several
instances to describe the relationship between revenge and anger, and the cycle the two create. As the
years passed in France, the violence the rebels exhibited grew worse and worse. In such risings of fire
and risings of sea the firm earth shaken by the rushes of an angry ocean which had now no ebb, but
was always on the flow, higher and higher, to the terror, and wonder of the beholders on the shore
three years of tempest were consumed, (Dickens 225). Sea, or water, symbolizes revenge while fire
represents vengeance, anger, and hatred. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Doctor Manette is talking to a peasant boy who has been stabbed about his sister, another patient
Manette has just seen, and her recent marriage. The conversation turns into a rant from the boy about
nobles, specifically Monsieur the Marquis. I say, we were so robbed, and hunted, and were made so
poor, that our father told us it was a dreadful thing to bring a child into the world, and that what we
should most pray for was that our women might be barren and our miserable race die out, I had never
before seen the sense of being oppressed, bursting forth like a fire. I had supposed that it must be
latent in the people somewhere; but, I had never seen it break out, until I saw it in the dying boy,
(Dickens 315). Dickens again uses fire to represent contempt and anger, this time in a more personal
example of the dying peasant boy. The Marquis took everything from this boy: his quality of life,
willingness to live, and his life itself. Choosing the word barren casts an even more negative
connotation over the already pessimistic topic of infertility. Also, in most instances, fathers want
nothing more than grandchildren from their sons, but the conditions in France are so atrocious he
would rather his family die out. This demonstrates how desolate and hopeless France had become for
peasants; on the bright side,

Uncle Tom s Cabin Essay
What is character? Character means the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Uncle
Tom demonstrated strong character throughout the book even though he faced adversity. Tom was able
to overcome these obstacles by sticking to his moral principles that all relate to the religion of
Christianity. When Tom suffered, Tom triumphed and became even stronger. When Tom got knocked
down, he always managed to find away to stand right back up. In the beginning of Uncle Tom s Cabin,
Tom lived with the Shelby s who treated Tom with respect. However, the family goes into debt and
Tom s first suffering occurs. The family has no other choice but to sell Tom, but the Shelbys fear for

Another downfall that happened to Tom has to do with his family. When Tom was sold, he became
separated from his family. Although his family was gone, Tom believed God would help him
throughout his journey and he would be reunited with them in heaven. Tom sustained a positive
attitude and held true to his principles that God provides. Evangeline falling into the river and Tom
rescuing her showed triumph in the midst of suffering. Tom showed great character by helping
someone in need just as God has done for him. Tom did this act on instinct not on thought. Tom knew
what the right thing to do was even if that meant putting himself in the face of danger. After Tom was
bought by the Saint Clare s, Eva had died and Marie decided to sell all of the slaves against Eva s will.
Tom was sold to a man who owns a cotton plantation in New Orleans. Tom faces his biggest challenge
that will test his faith, character and moral principles. A man named Simon Legree owns the plantation
and makes it known to all slaves. If a slave does not get enough cotton on the fields one day he beats
them. One day Tom was working in the fields and noticed a girl named Lucy who was struggling to
pick cotton. Tom snuck

The Golden Ass Literary Analysis
The beloved tale of Cupid and Psyche takes up a large portion of The Golden Ass, relative to the other
anecdotal interludes. Given the central placement, length and style, many readers have questioned its
relevance to the overarching story. Is it an artistic interlude providing a reprieve from harsher
circumstances, like the long description of Achilles shield in the Iliad, or does it advance the story?
While it is tempting to view the tale as an artistic interlude, the Tale of Cupid and Psyche perpetuates
the demonization of women in The Golden Ass, draws parallels between Psyche and Lucius, and
foreshadows the tragic fate of Charitë. Firstly, in the story of Cupid and Psyche, Psyche s two sisters
embody Lucius reoccurring view of women as evil and sexually insatiable. ... Show more content on

responsibilities that go along with pet ownership, responsibilities that she will have to follow no
matter what; it ll grow up from the cute puppy it is now to a gnarly old dog. Jenny says she doesn t

much as Jenny does, and Fido loves them all back. But what if Jenny tried to persuade her parents to
buy her a fuzzy lion cub she saw advertised, or a baby chimpanzee? If they had any sense, Jenny s
parents would tell her No way and stick to their guns. While the idea of owning an exotic animal as a

that can come about while owning an exotic animal as a pet. The two articles provided convey why
private citizens should not be allowed to keep dangerous (exotic) animals as pets, owning an exotic

Technological Innovations In World War One
War, whether intentional or not, surrounds us and has done for many centuries. The four years of the
First World War saw combat on a scale that had never been experienced before the conflict was global,

combat changed significantly. The final days of swords and cavalry charges gave way to the routine

In World War One (WW1), technological innovations were primarily aimed at ending the stalemate
and aiding the allied victory. War demands the development of new methods of destruction and with
that an increase in technology. WW1 saw the innovation

In the novel and film, The Great Gatsby is about a man who had everything except the love of his life.
It truly represents the American Dream, which is having the independence and ability to make

F.Scott Fitzgerald s novel and Baz Luhrmann s film of The Great Gatsby are very similar, but they do

The main characters are Nick Carraway, Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan, and Myrtle

motivation in life was to find Daisy. In both the film and novel, Gatsby was a very mysterious man.
Tom Buchanan is a dishonest alcoholic in both film and novel. In chapter two, Tom pulls Nick off the

Essay about The Effectiveness Of Sport Drinks
The major reason anyone drinks fluid before, during and after physical activity is to replace the water
that is lost through sweat. If the water isn t replaced dehydration will occur and performance will be
hampered. The purpose of sports drinks is to help rehydrate your body quickly and help improve
performance and productivity. This is accomplished through a well balanced mix of water, sugar
(carbohydrates) and salts (electrolytes), the major ingredients in most sports drinks. These ingredients,
combined with a variety of fruit flavours, create pleasant tasting drinks that, according to the
companies, are suppose to help your athletic performance. Results prove that commercial sport drinks
generally accomplish what they set out to do. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A CHO level of approximately 6% and the presence of salt are important in order to achieve optimal
fluid absorption (Davis 1057). Also, it should be noted that Sodium in the sport drinks helps to
maintain body fluids, unlike other beverages such as water that can promote fluid loss through
urination.
As well, sport drinks have the ability to provide a subject with an increased amount of endurance for
their exercise. One reason why sport drinks have this capability is due to the carbohydrates found in
the beverages. These carbohydrates exist as either of two sugars, sucrose and glucose fructose, which
provide the energy for the body that makes sport drinks better to use during exercise than water
(Tsintzas 155). Carbohydrate consumption allows athletes to work harder for longer periods of time
and to feel better while doing the exercises. A recent study determined that runners who had only
water to drink lost speed during the race compared to those who had sport drinks. Also, performance
time was faster in runners who consumed the sport drinks as opposed to water. It was only during the
final 17.2 kilometres of the race that the performance times began to differ and the runners who drank
the sport drinks ran faster (Tsintzas 156). Furthermore, the exercise intensity was higher towards the
end of the race from those runners who had the sport drinks. As with most performance enhancing
implements, sport drinks have potential drawbacks.

Diversity Is The Human Race
DIVERSITY PAPER
Gay. Straight. Black. White. Male. Female. Wealthy. Poor. Modern society has systematically sorted
the human race into collections and communities of descriptive factors. Deeply embedded within a
systematical labeling system, diversity has fell victim to the harmful segregation and prejudice of the
past. Diversity is not about the inferior nor the morally corrupt. Diversity is not the hallow substance
of labels. Diversity is culture, pride, and heritage.
To rural South Dakotans, diversity amongst the human race is rare. In the agricultural state I call
home, variation lies not in the people but rather in the contrasting species of livestock and corn.
Hailing from a town population of 3,025, any kind of knowledge about a social world beyond
Hartford, South Dakota was limited. I set up my childhood moral system on a tainted blend of
inaccurate perceptions and assumptions. A moral system which would ring true until I found myself as
the diversity. I am my own diversity. I am the collection of the variant and the assortment of different.
I am gay.
To answer any impending questions which may be surrounding one s head at the current time, just
lean towards the answer no. While some individuals may be born with the innate sense of who they
are, I was not. Unfortunately, my sense of childhood identity came not from deep self reflection and
soul searching, but rather a combination of my restricted experiences and limited knowledge of the
social world. I was not

Summary Of An American Folk Tale By Americo Paredes
With His Pistol in His Hand by Americo Paredes is an American folk tale about taking place in 1901
along the Texas Mexico border. Paredes tells the story of Gregorio Cortez a Mexican farmer living on
the south Texas Border who was made a hero by his people. The second novel is that of Chester
Himes If He Hollers Let Him Go. Both stories deal with the issues of violence and racism, although in
very different ways. Based on both works, I believe that Bob Jones figure leaves a more lasting and
long term consequence of racism. Chester Himes novel about Bob Jones has somewhat of an
autobiographical touch to it. It is more persuasive in the way that, he and Bob have a lot in common.
Even though Paredes character focuses on a real character he is made into a fictional, whereas Bob
Jones may or may not be representative of some of the author s actual experiences were, leaven the
reader or audience with a longer lasting impression of the hardship during those times.
Gregorio Cortez was an unknown man until 1901.He was considered an outlaw but was also a likeable
young man according to others. Cortez had never been in trouble with the law. Cortez was one of three
sons, and he lived on a farm with his parents. Cortez only occasionally had some disputes with
American farmers. Cortez tried to stay out of any kind of trouble but one day, Cortez received a visit
from Sheriff Morris. Sheriff Morris, a white American was searching for horse thieves. There had

Research on the Microbiological Hazard of Linens
Executive summary Linen that has been used is a source of healthcare associated infection and is
considered to be contaminated and contain microbes that continue to survive or even multiply if not
laundered according to required standard . The transfer of micro organisms can take place through
contact from linen to patients, clients, staff so all stages of linen management must be considered. It
includes storage, handling, bagging, transportation and laundering .To reduce the microbiological
hazard for those who handle soiled and infected linen control measures are necessary. The aim of this
study is to ascertain whether linens are correctly categorized, segregated and laundered to prevent the
risk of infection to patients and healthcare staff . Introduction The term hospital linen includes all
linen used in the hospital. It includes mattress, pillow covers, blankets, bed sheets, towels, curtains,
doctors coats. All linen used by patient that have been soiled with blood, body fluids, secretions, and
excretions should be handled using appropriate precautions. The risk of cross infection can be
eliminated if appropriate precautions are followed by care givers for the handling, collecting,
transporting .The hospital receives all these materials from different areas like Operation Theatre,

The Washington Metro Transit Authority
It is against this segregated backdrop that many of the District s transportation initiatives began. In its
2002 Transit Development Study, the Washington Metro Transit Authority (WMATA) cited several
reasons for its focus on transit improvements. Among these reasons was the recognition that the
District was growing but not equally in all areas (WMATA, 2002). Its list of Promising Transit Routes
included routes extending from areas of traditionally higher income per household and lower
unemployment rates to areas of traditionally lower income per household and higher unemployment
rates. For example, 4 of the 5 routes involved routes to the Minnesota Avenue station from
neighborhoods such as Georgetown and Woodley Park. NeighborhoodInfo DC, Urban Institute s data
aggregator, provides profile information for DC s 39 neighborhood clusters and helps to put the
variances of income and unemployment in perspective while also assisting with understanding the
rationale behind the selection of these routes by WMATA. Table 1 shows percentages of Black and
White residents in these areas and lists the average family income and unemployment rates of each
neighborhood as measured by 2010 census data. Based on 2010 Census data. 39 neighborhood

Should Court System Require Alternative Dispute Resolution
Should court systems require alternative dispute resolution before a plaintiff is allowed to pursue his
or her lawsuit in court? I believe courts should require alternative dispute resolution.
Cases tend to be long, costly, and a headache for the state and the plaintiff when trying to reach a
decision. I think Mediation would be the best option for court systems before allowing cases to go to
trial. Mediation would allow for both parties to reach an agreement themselves through a third party
rather than allowing a court to decide for them. This would allow for both parties to come to a
common agreement that is usually more desirable than court decisions.
Mediation allows for two party s to reach an agreement through a mediator. The mediator

My Favorite Reading
Literacy has always been an important part of my life. Unfortunately, I actually do not recall the
moment when I realized that I could read by myself. I also do not remember reading or writing in my
early years (kindergarten and first grade) or what my teachers taught me about literacy during that
time. However, that doesn t mean that literacy wasn t important to me. I have always loved reading.
My favorite moments from elementary school were when my favorite teachers would read to me and
my classmates. I loved when my second grade teacher, Ms. Walker, and my fourth grade teacher, Mrs.
Seymour, would read. I loved hearing them read because of how animated and excited they would be
when they read to me and my class. Seeing them get excited to read made me feel the same way. I feel
like their actions and feelings definitely encouraged me to feel excited to read books. In elementary
school, I enjoyed reading a variety of books. In the beginning I loved reading picture books of course.
I loved picture books because of the vibrant images that the pages had. I also loved them because
usually, someone else was reading the books for me. One of my favorite memories is my mom reading
me a picture book that was in Spanish at home. She made the book so much fun and I realized that we
both had something in common. That we both liked to read. When I realized this, it made me feel like
me and my mom had a special connection that my siblings didn t have with her. This encouraged me
to read more books and eventually ask my mom to take me to the library in our free time. She would
take me once a week so I could choose a couple of books for us to read. As I got older, I moved on to
chapter books and realized that I really loved them. I remember that in second grade I would always
read scary stories, Goosebumps, the Junie B. Jones books, and the Magic Tree House books. While
reading these types of books, I discovered that I really loved reading books. I figured out that I loved
reading books so much because in a way, they created another world in my mind. While reading
books, I would make images in my head of what I was reading and that made reading so much more
fun. In middle school and high school, I still really enjoyed

MLA Document Analysis
In my personal opinion, I think it is essential that we use the MLA format. First of all, citations give
credit to authors whose works you have used (whether you quote them or not) [Bailey/Howe Library].
For example, imagine what it would be like to spend months writing an essay that you put all your
effort into this essay is your one and only shot you have to pass English. Someone takes your essay
and hands it in as theirs. It is infuriating and unfair to the writer to have their ideas and effort taken
without credit. Additionally, as stated by Judy Hunter, academics need to be able to trace the
genealogy of ideas [Hunter, 2]. Schools need to be able to figure out how your ideas were created and
developed from the first second you started

Essay On The Battle Of The Bulge
Battle of the Bulge By the time World War II ended, numerous battles were won and lost by both
sides. Millions of soldiers were killed defending their countries. One of the most famous battles was
the Battle of the Bulge. The result of this battle would all but end any hope for Adolf Hitler to win
World War II. The essay will cover the events leading up to the Battle of the Bulge, how this battle
was fought, the casualties, and what happened after this battle was over. This will give a better
understanding, some expertise, and awareness of how important this battle was to the Allied forces.
The Battle of the Bulge is said to be Adolf Hitler s final, desperate gamble of the war (Battle of the
Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was because by this time in
World War II, Adolf Hitler was running low on supplies. Knowing that this war could end for him
soon, he made a frantic effort to try and win the war. Since he was low on supplies his goal was to
reach the post city of Antwerp and disrupt the Allied front and their much needed supply lines along
the way (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was an
important battle that needed to be won, and it is said to be the largest and perhaps the most savage
land battle fought by the Americans in World War Two (The Battle of the Bulge: Hitler s Final
Gamble, 2005). This battle started on December 16, 1944. This started with the surprise

Magical Realism And Gothic Style
Magical Realism and Gothic style writings may seem very alike, but at the same time, they are
different. Gothic style invokes a very dark, scary, and irrational feeling, even though the explanation is
completely natural. Magical Realism like the piece House Taken Over , makes things seems normal
but has events that seem almost unexplainable. In Gothic style writings like The Fall of The House of
Usher , things seem unreasonable, but in Magical Realism things feel ordinary. Both types of writing
will provide an uneasy feeling. For instance, in The Fall of The House of Usher, the very first sentence
of this piece of writing gives off a glum and dreary feeling. During the whole of a dull, dark, and
soundless day in the autumn of the

Essay about Civil War Weapons and Atrillery
The Weapons of the American Civil War
The Civil War, also called The War Between the States, was one of the bloodiest wars in American
history. What made the Civil War such a massacre? The Civil War was such a bloodbath because the
technological advances were so far superior to the tactics of the infantry, that the weapons virtually
obliterated the soldiers. Soldiers would form lines known as a battalions. In these battalions, soldiers
would basically march to their deaths. In addition to weapons doing so much damage, fortification on
the battlefield was far more advanced than had ever been before. The Cheveau de frise was the main
focus of armored fortification in the Civil War. This fortification consisted of 10 to 12 foot ... Show

Colonel Mosby once remarked . . .the only real use for a sword was to hold a piece of meat over a fire
for frying. 6 The Union army, unlike the Confederates, had multiple companies that provided simple,
yet devastating weapons. One of these weapons was the .52 caliber breech loading Billinghurst Requa
battery; it was produced only 50 times. This weapon consisted of 25 rifled barrels side by side that,
when primed, were set off by a lanyard to inflict massive damage over a small range of territory.7 The
Union forces also produced many long range artillery weapons. Unlike the Confederates, who used
Howitzers; the Union Army used mortars. The short squat mortar, as it was called, was originally used
by the Ottoman s in 1453. The mortars operated by the Union were primarily used to hurl shells over
walls or into large concentrations of enemy soldiers. In addition to lobbing bombs over walls, the
mortars were also extremely effective in dismantling naval forces. The mortars could be shot from
miles inland, therefore Confederate naval forces never saw the bombs coming. The mortar weighed
17,120 pounds and could fire a 220 pound bomb 4,325 yards. There were smaller versions of these
mortars (the 300 lb Coehorn mortar with a 5.8 inch bore that hurled an 18 pound shell), but they saw
very little activity on the battlefield.8 The Union forces also used another form

Many people opposed this but the government did what they had to do under the command of George
Bush. Even the soldiers that were sent to do the job were not willing to do it but they did it because of
their patriotism towards the nation. Montgomery very clearly explains the same points. All of this
began after 9/11 wars on the World Trade Centre in Manhattan, New York. A lot of musical responses
were released. The American idiot by Green day was one of the most influential one. Even though this

Music is perhaps the most powerful tool to express anything because people can relate to lot of things
that are shown or heard through music. Rock genre has been quite a trending genre since the past
decades. It is considered to be one of the most interesting music genres the world has created,
especially because this genre is something that makes the raw talent to come out of the performers and
not just electronic music that is being played. One thing about this genre is that all the artists literally
create the music and do not simply copy and paste in their books, it is their own vocals that makes it
really interesting. This genre is not my personal preference as I think dance music is much better, but
this video stands up to the mark and proves that there is a lot of meaning to it. The video conveys a
strong message about the rebellious nature of the people and they should stand against the
government, as the artist himself is wearing all black with a red neck tie and asks for a new agenda
because he does not want war anymore and asks the people to stand up and question themselves if
they want to be a part of a useless

Summary Of Virginia Woolf
Bibliography
Guiguet, Jean. Virginia Woolf and Her Works. Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1976. Thoroughly
examining a handful of Woolf s critics and works, Guiguet offers extensive character and whole novel
analysis proposing her view of the works. Guiguet harmonizes her analysis with her predecessors by
building off their work and recognizing their skill and limitations in reviewing Woolf s work boosting
her credibility and strengthening her viewpoint. This presents a unique perspective and allows Guiguet
to present Woolf s work with Woolf s idea s taken from her diaries, different critics view points and
build her own ideas on the works as well. The table of contents separates the book by the work that is
being analyzed and provides a simple way of collecting desired information from the text. The book
can effortlessly be employed in scholarly essays to boost opinions and personal viewpoints
strengthening the essays thesis, particularly if arguing the point of Woolf s life being entwined into her
works.
Marder, Herbert. The Measure of Life: Virginia Woolf s Last Years. Cornell University Press, 2000.
Marder furnishes a remarkable outlook on Woolf and how her life was intimately tied with her works
and influences, going so far as to provide images of Woof s family and discussing how the image
paralleled Woolf s characters. This biography delves into Woolf s life without restraint and undresses
Woolf s motives, thoughts, opinions, and life, whether about suicide, politics, insecurities, or relations
with other people. Probing into the lives of the people surrounding Woolf, this book presents
information on important personal influences in Woolf s life. Marder connects historical events with
Woolf s life and works analyzing her life with a new vigor and perspective offering interesting insight
on the influences in Woolf s life.
The text has the potential of being utilized to support a variety of arguments and perspectives on
Woolf s works, though more specifically, the text supports a thesis connecting Woolf s work and her
characters to her life and opinions.

Deforestation In Latin America Essay
Deforestation is defined as: the clearing of virgin forests, or intentional destruction or removal of trees
and other vegetation for agricultural, commercial, housing, or firewood use without replanting and
without allowing time for the forest to regenerate itself (SCRIBD). Deforestation has been a problem
in Latin America since the early 1900s and the severity of the dilemma is increasing rapidly.
Deforestation not only has consequences for the environment, but also, the indigenous people and the
national economy. The logging industry in Latin America is often exploited by multinational
companies that are not properly regulated. The land that has provided a home and cultivated
indigenous development for centuries is being dissipated rapidly. Due to an exponentially growing
global population, there is an increased demand for low priced goods like timber, crops, and meat.
Many Latin American countries value revenue from selling these goods over the health of their local
ecosystems. The crisis of deforestation and habitat loss is shifting from a local to global problem. As
deforestation continues, global warming escalates worldwide, impacting every country and person.
About 15 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from tropical deforestation, which is more
than from all the world s cars, trucks and buses combined (Schwartzman). Puerto Rico and Brazil
provide contrasting examples of the impact of deforestation. Puerto Rico had an economic and
environmental shift

Hearing impairments are defined by the federal government as, an impairment in hearing, wether
permanent or fluctuating that adversely affects a child s performance but that is not included under the
definition of deafness (Friend, 2012). Children who are hearing impaired make up a small percentage
of the students in the school system, and it is considered to be low incidence impairment. In fact, in
2009, around 1.3 percent of school age children are considered to have some form of hearing
impairment (Friend, 2012). Even though this represents a small number of the students in our public
schools, it still includes students like Jason, who is a 9 year old fourth ... Show more content on

In addition to this, because of his language difficulties he has trouble understanding educational
language in the classroom. So he struggles with many subjects, specifically language and math.
Mathematics uses specialized language such as conditionals, negatives, and symbols that create
barriers for students who are deaf or hard of hearing (Livingston, 1997). As could be expected,
students who struggle with understanding basic communications with adults and peers will especially
struggle with academic language that they are faced with in schooling situations. This lack of
understanding of language leads to Jason becoming frustrated with his work and easily distracted.
There are many services that students are entitled to when they are classified with deafness or having a
hearing impairment that they can receive due to the NCLB and the IDEA. The No Child Left Behind
Act, or NCLB, came into the national education scene in 2002. The act was created to raise the
academic achievements for all students across the board, regardless of disabilities or other factors
(Turnbull et al., 2015). This basically means that although the student may have hearing impairments,
they are still held to the same academic standards and benchmarks as their peers who do not have
impairments. The Individual with Disabilities Education Act, often referred to as IDEA, allows a

Counselling Case Study
Introduction
This essay is an evaluation of two counselling models applied to a situation where a client has
experienced loss and how a counsellor can create a therapeutic relationship with the client using each
counselling model. It will also contain other skills a counsellor could use to obtain/maintain a good
therapeutic relationship with the client.
Outcomes
There are 3 main outcomes needed within this assignment. The fist outcome is to distinguish and
describe the main principles needed for effective communication and interpersonal communication
skills which will ensure the counsellor works with the client successfully. The second outcome is to
identify practical and ethical issues needed which would create a safe environment when a ... Show

This model was created by Carl rogers. He believed for a personality change to occur the counsellor
would need to use the six core conditions and use them continuously over a period of time (Rogers,
1957).
The first step would have involved the counsellor to create a psychological contact with Felicia. The
second step within the process would be the counsellor needs to ensure that Felicia is in a state of
incongruence. Incongruence is the difference of the client s self image and actual experience. If Felicia
s self image and actual experiences don t match it could lead her to feeling vulnerable and create
anxiety. On the other hand, the counsellor needs to be congruent. This would mean the counsellor will
be himself 100%. This will involve the counsellor being honest and transparent of who they are and
not putting up a façade. The counsellor should show unconditional positive regard (UPR) to Felicia.
Unconditional positive regard is the counsellor accepting and supporting the client without judging
them. The fifth condition the counsellor should actively use would be empathy. Empathy is the skill to
understand another individual s feelings. This is vital within therapy. The counsellor should be able to
experience the client s feelings without it having effect on their emotions. The final condition would
be the counsellor and the client have a minimal degree understanding of

The Size Of Connecticut, El Salvador
The size of Connecticut, El Salvador is one of Central America s most densely populated countries
and has the highest mortality rate in the world. First conquered by the Spaniards in the early 1500s, El
Salvador s history is filled with tension, violence, and exclusion; the settlers robbed the indigenous
people of their land and forced them to slave in the coffee plant fields. Not only were the indigenous
people deprived of their land, it was kept in the hands of the elite, creating little to no social mobility
and further subjugating native Salvadorans. As discontent and tension increased between the elite and
the poor, a massacre occurred on January 22, 1932 that was carried out by the National Guard, killing
between 10,000 and 40,000 peasants most of whom were indigenous people. The slaughter ignited a
fire among the Salvadoran people that was fueled by unfulfilled promises of socio economic parity
and agrarian reform. In 1979 a civil war broke loose, Salvadorans were disappearing, illegally
detained by the military, and killed. Maria Teresa Tula, a Salvadoran woman of indigenous decent
shares her first hand experience with violence in her work Hear My Testimony; as the wife of a union
member, Maria Teresa was catapulted into a world where the government captured and killed her
husband. In order to find answers Maria Teresa joined a civil society made up of women known as

Analysis Of The Duchess Of Malfi And The Castle Of Malpe
I am sure the Beatles were not thinking about the Middle Ages when they wrote and sang Can t Buy
Me Love but this title is very fitting to Medieval Europe. Was it possible to choose who you loved?
Not if you were an aristocrat. During this period, marriages were arranged for a gain by both sides
usually in the form of property, wealth or power. Falling in love was not an option for most
individuals during this time; however, this does not mean that people did not fall in love commonly
with someone other than the intended spouse. Women s fate in marriage was usually determined by
their fathers with little or no regard for their own feelings. Furthermore, the church basically offered
women two options. They were to become celibate and lead the life of a nun or be committed to a
loveless marriage and procreate. As we witness in both The Duchess of Malfi and The Castle of
Otranto, marriage was not an ideal situation for women. Being forced into arranged marriages, neither
the bride nor the groom had the prerogative to fall in love naturally. Women were treated like objects
and were forced to marry men of all ages for a variety of different reasons. Society dictated that
people marry within their class. It was difficult to rebel against those ideals but there were a few brave
enough to do so. An example of this is shown in both The Duchess of Malfi and The Castle of Otranto
as they both show how women were treated like objects and how love is portrayed.

Descriptive Essay About Beatles
The Band that Paved the Way
If I had to think of one word to describe the Beatles, it would have to be iconic. Their style and
innovation is something that has really stood the test of time and remains unsurpassed. They were
ahead of their time, they were experimental, and their music is timeless. The Fab four s music speaks
to all generations. The variety in which is displayed throughout their albums is what I admire most
about the Beatles. Each record has its own unique sound; there really is a song for everyone. It is
impossible to talk about the progression of music without mentioning the Beatles. They sit atop The
Rolling Stone s 100 Greatest Artist of All Time list, and for good reason. I am excited to express my

In my opinion, the stars represent all the successes and happiness that love can bring a couple.
However, many relationships go through a lot of struggles that can be seen by the darkness of the sky.
The lyrics are also straightforward and easy to follow. They leave the listener to think about what they
believe is the true meaning of love. Hearing this song will forever remind me of my parents love for
each other and that is something that is special to me.
The way the Beatles wrote their music was interesting. The song itself is in F# minor until the acoustic
guitar solo in the middle of the song by Harrison, which is when it switches over to G minor (The
Beatles Bible). I believe that the solo portion of the song is the best part. This portion of the song is
more like a transitional period, as George Harrison does a good job of using relaxing tones. Harrison
also plays the claves in the background of the song that serve as something similar to a metronome to
keep the rhythm constant in the song. Due to the song s simplicity and beauty, it is no surprise that the
tempo is slower. If the song were any faster, the message would be more difficult to portray.. It shows
that love and happiness does not come very easy and you must be patient until you are destined with
true love. The Beatles did an excellent job of showing the beauty of love in what I believe to be an
effortless way.
The next song I chose is one that I couldn t resist

  • 2. Analysis Of Like Water For Chocolate By Laura Esquivel In Laura Esquivel s novel Like Water for Chocolate , she skillfully illustrates that love is a powerful that can either make or break us. The author portrays this conflict through The use of descriptive metaphors and indirect symbolism. As Esquivel describes the inner emotions of Tita; the main protagonist, through the use of descriptive metaphors she asserts that The anger she felt within her acted like yeast on bread dough. She felt it s rapid rising flowing into every last recess of her body; like yeast in a small bowl, it spilled over to the outside, escaping in the form of steam through her ears, nose, and all her pores (Esquivel 149). Her use of metaphors enable the reader to visualize Tita s anger and frustration by relating them to food items. The way Esquivel is very descriptive when expressing the emotions of Tita convey the mood of resentment; because of the all too familiar feeling of loving someone who you can not be with. ... Since then Tita had lost all interest in life, except for her interest in feeding worms to a helpless pigeon (Esquivel 87). Later in the chapter whenever Tita refuses to obey her mother s rules, she get physically abused and seeks shelter from her mother in the dovecote where the narrator states, Chencha found Tita holding the pigeon. She didn t seem to realize it was dead. She was trying to feed it some more worms. The poor thing probably died of indigestion because Tita fed it to much ( Esquivel 100). The pigeon is an indirect symbol of Tita s desire to feel loved and to also give love. Her actions of feeding the pigeon emphasize her need to feel loved. • 3. Foolishness In A Midsummer Night s Dream Many people can be foolish because of the decisions they decide to make, surprisingly even fairies can be fools. In the play A Midsummer Night s Dream by William Shakespeare, fairies are just as fools as humans can be. From Bottom turning into an ass. Puck s mistake in applying the love potion on the wrong person. Oberon s decision to apply the love potion on his wife. By looking at the foolishness of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, it is evident that Puck s statement Lord what fools these mortals be can also be applied to fairies People unknowingly are constantly being a victim of something they weren t unaware of. Oberon was so jealous over a boy that he decides to apply the potion on his own wife Titania, wanting her to fall in love with the first ugly creature she see s. Oberon makes this decision because he gets into a fight with Titania with how her attention is more towards the changeling boy then over him, making him want to apply the potion. This is a foolish thing to do because Oberon should understand that Titania is taking care of this baby because she feels like she owes the mother of the child, he should know that the little boys need a lot of attention to be taken care of. Instead of feeling jealous, he should of felt proud that his wife was doing a kind act. Instead he takes it in the wrong way, playing a mean prank on his wife and making her fall in love with Bottom, to take away the changeling boy. People are fools, even to their loved ones . As a result of Bottom, Puck and Oberon, they prove that Puck s statement Lord what fools these mortals be can also be applied to fairies. Bottom shows that he is fool with playing on with the tricks and actually thinking that a Queen loves him. Puck is a fool because he applies the love potion on the wrong person making the plot change many times. Oberon is a fool because instead of accepting the act of kindness his wife is doing, he is jealous. Fools are not just in mortals, but in fairies ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though the working industry is not perfect and there are still problems, the EEOC(Equal Employment Opportunities Commission) was created and helps to prevent discrimination in employment. The EEOC was created by congress in 1964. It was passed after the Civil Rights Act in 1964. This was written and states that discrimination in employment based on color, national origin, race, religion, and sex is not allowed. Almost immediately after this was issued as the law, the EEOC received thousands of complaints more than expected. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Generally, the lower a storage is in the hierarchy, the lesser its bandwidth and the greater its access latency is from the CPU. This traditional division of storage to primary, secondary, tertiary and off line storage is also guided by cost per bit. III. Hierarchy of storage A. Primary storage: Primary storage (or main memory or internal memory), often referred to simply as memory, is the only one directly accessible to the CPU. The CPU continuously reads instructions stored there and executes them as required. Any data actively operated on is also stored there in uniform manner. Historically, early computers used delay lines, Williams s tubes, or rotating magnetic drums as primary storage. By 1954, those unreliable methods were mostly replaced by magnetic core memory. Core memory remained dominant until the 1970s, when advances in integrated circuit technology allowed semiconductor memory to become economically competitive. This led to modern random access memory (RAM). It is small sized, light, but quite expensive at the same time. (The particular types of RAM used for primary storage are also volatile, i.e. they lose the information when not powered). As the RAM types used for primary storage are volatile (cleared at start up), a computer containing only such storage would not have a source to read instructions from, in order to start the computer. Hence, non volatile primary storage containing a small startup ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both Republicans and Democrats agree on taking our money. Where they differ is what to spend it on. A Democrat agrees to take our earnings and give them to cities and poor people. A Republican agrees to take our earnings and give them to farmers and failing businesses. Republicans have dominated both houses of Congress since 1994, a year when federal spending was $1.5 trillion. Giles insisted that it was neither the purpose nor the right of Congress to attend to what generosity and humanity require, but to what the Constitution and their duty require. In 1854, President Franklin Pierce vetoed a bill intended to help the mentally ill championed by the renowned 19th century social reformer Dorothea Dix. In the face of scathing criticism, President Pierce said, I cannot find any authority in the Constitution for public charity. To approve such spending, President Pierce added, would be contrary to the letter and the spirit of the Constitution and subversive to the whole theory upon which the Union of these States is founded. President Grover Cleveland was the king of the veto. He vetoed literally hundreds of congressional spending bills during his two terms as President in the late 1800s. His reason, as he often said: I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution. Many Americans erroneously believe that the Constitution s general welfare clause serves as justification for congressional spending on anything they can muster a majority vote. Section 4 of the Companies Act 1965 stated that the director of a company is a person who is chosen to be the directors or alternate directors apart from the given name upon on their position (Rachagan, 2002). Director is not just only a person that formally selected to the office. Even though they are not validly appointed, the s4 of the Act can as well consider certain persons to be directors, but only if the contrary intention appears. One of the duties that company directors need to comply with is fiduciary duties. This is so as company directors are said to be in a fiduciary relationship with the company. When directors are in a fiduciary relationship with the company, they are prohibited from doing any acts deemed prejudicial to the company. In other words, by applying the judgment in Hospital Products Ltd v United States Surgical Corpn, directors cannot and should not use his position to receive personal gains. The traditional view is that the directors owed a fiduciary duty to the company. This is the reason why directors are prohibited from receiving personal gain from their status as directors in a company. The nature of the relationship i.e. fiduciary relationship between directors and a company rendered the directors to act for the best interest of the company. This point can be supported by looking at Section 132(1) of the Companies Act 1965 which states that a director must act in bona fide when exercising his powers for a proper purpose and ... • 9. Tale Of Two Cities Literary Analysis In the novel A Tale of Two Cities, Charles Dickens establishes that revenge is sinful by using the French Revolution s rebel peasants, fire, and water. Dickens discreetly uses fire and water in several instances to describe the relationship between revenge and anger, and the cycle the two create. As the years passed in France, the violence the rebels exhibited grew worse and worse. In such risings of fire and risings of sea the firm earth shaken by the rushes of an angry ocean which had now no ebb, but was always on the flow, higher and higher, to the terror, and wonder of the beholders on the shore three years of tempest were consumed, (Dickens 225). Doctor Manette is talking to a peasant boy who has been stabbed about his sister, another patient Manette has just seen, and her recent marriage. The conversation turns into a rant from the boy about nobles, specifically Monsieur the Marquis. I say, we were so robbed, and hunted, and were made so poor, that our father told us it was a dreadful thing to bring a child into the world, and that what we should most pray for was that our women might be barren and our miserable race die out, I had never before seen the sense of being oppressed, bursting forth like a fire. I had supposed that it must be latent in the people somewhere; but, I had never seen it break out, until I saw it in the dying boy, (Dickens 315). Dickens again uses fire to represent contempt and anger, this time in a more personal example of the dying peasant boy. The Marquis took everything from this boy: his quality of life, willingness to live, and his life itself. Choosing the word barren casts an even more negative connotation over the already pessimistic topic of infertility. Also, in most instances, fathers want nothing more than grandchildren from their sons, but the conditions in France are so atrocious he would rather his family die out. • 11. The Golden Ass Literary Analysis The beloved tale of Cupid and Psyche takes up a large portion of The Golden Ass, relative to the other anecdotal interludes. Given the central placement, length and style, many readers have questioned its relevance to the overarching story. Is it an artistic interlude providing a reprieve from harsher circumstances, like the long description of Achilles shield in the Iliad, or does it advance the story? While it is tempting to view the tale as an artistic interlude, the Tale of Cupid and Psyche perpetuates the demonization of women in The Golden Ass, draws parallels between Psyche and Lucius, and foreshadows the tragic fate of Charitë. If the water isn t replaced dehydration will occur and performance will be hampered. The purpose of sports drinks is to help rehydrate your body quickly and help improve performance and productivity. This is accomplished through a well balanced mix of water, sugar (carbohydrates) and salts (electrolytes), the major ingredients in most sports drinks. A CHO level of approximately 6% and the presence of salt are important in order to achieve optimal fluid absorption (Davis 1057). Also, it should be noted that Sodium in the sport drinks helps to maintain body fluids, unlike other beverages such as water that can promote fluid loss through urination. As well, sport drinks have the ability to provide a subject with an increased amount of endurance for their exercise. One reason why sport drinks have this capability is due to the carbohydrates found in the beverages. These carbohydrates exist as either of two sugars, sucrose and glucose fructose, which provide the energy for the body that makes sport drinks better to use during exercise than water (Tsintzas 155). Carbohydrate consumption allows athletes to work harder for longer periods of time and to feel better while doing the exercises. A recent study determined that runners who had only water to drink lost speed during the race compared to those who had sport drinks. Also, performance time was faster in runners who consumed the sport drinks as opposed to water. It was only during the final 17.2 kilometres of the race that the performance times began to differ and the runners who drank the sport drinks ran faster (Tsintzas 156). Furthermore, the exercise intensity was higher towards the end of the race from those runners who had the sport drinks. Modern society has systematically sorted the human race into collections and communities of descriptive factors. Deeply embedded within a systematical labeling system, diversity has fell victim to the harmful segregation and prejudice of the past. Diversity is not about the inferior nor the morally corrupt. Diversity is not the hallow substance of labels. Diversity is culture, pride, and heritage. To rural South Dakotans, diversity amongst the human race is rare. In the agricultural state I call home, variation lies not in the people but rather in the contrasting species of livestock and corn. Hailing from a town population of 3,025, any kind of knowledge about a social world beyond Hartford, South Dakota was limited. I set up my childhood moral system on a tainted blend of inaccurate perceptions and assumptions. A moral system which would ring true until I found myself as the diversity. I am my own diversity. I am the collection of the variant and the assortment of different. I am gay. To answer any impending questions which may be surrounding one s head at the current time, just lean towards the answer no. • 20. Summary Of An American Folk Tale By Americo Paredes With His Pistol in His Hand by Americo Paredes is an American folk tale about taking place in 1901 along the Texas Mexico border. Paredes tells the story of Gregorio Cortez a Mexican farmer living on the south Texas Border who was made a hero by his people. The second novel is that of Chester Himes If He Hollers Let Him Go. Both stories deal with the issues of violence and racism, although in very different ways. Based on both works, I believe that Bob Jones figure leaves a more lasting and long term consequence of racism. Chester Himes novel about Bob Jones has somewhat of an autobiographical touch to it. It is more persuasive in the way that, he and Bob have a lot in common. Even though Paredes character focuses on a real character he is made into a fictional, whereas Bob Jones may or may not be representative of some of the author s actual experiences were, leaven the reader or audience with a longer lasting impression of the hardship during those times. Gregorio Cortez was an unknown man until 1901.He was considered an outlaw but was also a likeable young man according to others. Cortez had never been in trouble with the law. Cortez was one of three sons, and he lived on a farm with his parents. Cortez only occasionally had some disputes with American farmers. In its 2002 Transit Development Study, the Washington Metro Transit Authority (WMATA) cited several reasons for its focus on transit improvements. Among these reasons was the recognition that the District was growing but not equally in all areas (WMATA, 2002). Its list of Promising Transit Routes included routes extending from areas of traditionally higher income per household and lower unemployment rates to areas of traditionally lower income per household and higher unemployment rates. I believe courts should require alternative dispute resolution. Cases tend to be long, costly, and a headache for the state and the plaintiff when trying to reach a decision. I think Mediation would be the best option for court systems before allowing cases to go to trial. Mediation would allow for both parties to reach an agreement themselves through a third party rather than allowing a court to decide for them. This would allow for both parties to come to a common agreement that is usually more desirable than court decisions. Mediation allows for two party s to reach an agreement through a mediator. I also do not remember reading or writing in my early years (kindergarten and first grade) or what my teachers taught me about literacy during that time. However, that doesn t mean that literacy wasn t important to me. I have always loved reading. My favorite moments from elementary school were when my favorite teachers would read to me and my classmates. I loved when my second grade teacher, Ms. Walker, and my fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Seymour, would read. I loved hearing them read because of how animated and excited they would be when they read to me and my class. Seeing them get excited to read made me feel the same way. I feel like their actions and feelings definitely encouraged me to feel excited to read books. In elementary school, I enjoyed reading a variety of books. In the beginning I loved reading picture books of course. I loved picture books because of the vibrant images that the pages had. I also loved them because usually, someone else was reading the books for me. One of my favorite memories is my mom reading me a picture book that was in Spanish at home. She made the book so much fun and I realized that we both had something in common. That we both liked to read. When I realized this, it made me feel like me and my mom had a special connection that my siblings didn t have with her. This encouraged me to read more books and eventually ask my mom to take me to the library in our free time. She would take me once a week so I could choose a couple of books for us to read. As I got older, I moved on to chapter books and realized that I really loved them. I remember that in second grade I would always read scary stories, Goosebumps, the Junie B. Jones books, and the Magic Tree House books. While reading these types of books, I discovered that I really loved reading books. I figured out that I loved reading books so much because in a way, they created another world in my mind. Millions of soldiers were killed defending their countries. One of the most famous battles was the Battle of the Bulge. The result of this battle would all but end any hope for Adolf Hitler to win World War II. The essay will cover the events leading up to the Battle of the Bulge, how this battle was fought, the casualties, and what happened after this battle was over. This will give a better understanding, some expertise, and awareness of how important this battle was to the Allied forces. The Battle of the Bulge is said to be Adolf Hitler s final, desperate gamble of the war (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was because by this time in World War II, Adolf Hitler was running low on supplies. Knowing that this war could end for him soon, he made a frantic effort to try and win the war. Since he was low on supplies his goal was to reach the post city of Antwerp and disrupt the Allied front and their much needed supply lines along the way (Battle of the Bulge Timeline (December 16th, 1944 January 25th, 1945), n.d.). This was an important battle that needed to be won, and it is said to be the largest and perhaps the most savage land battle fought by the Americans in World War Two (The Battle of the Bulge: Hitler s Final Gamble, 2005). Soldiers would form lines known as a battalions. In these battalions, soldiers would basically march to their deaths. This weapon consisted of 25 rifled barrels side by side that, when primed, were set off by a lanyard to inflict massive damage over a small range of territory.7 The Union forces also produced many long range artillery weapons. Unlike the Confederates, who used Howitzers; the Union Army used mortars. The short squat mortar, as it was called, was originally used by the Ottoman s in 1453. The mortars operated by the Union were primarily used to hurl shells over walls or into large concentrations of enemy soldiers. In addition to lobbing bombs over walls, the mortars were also extremely effective in dismantling naval forces. The mortars could be shot from miles inland, therefore Confederate naval forces never saw the bombs coming. The mortar weighed 17,120 pounds and could fire a 220 pound bomb 4,325 yards. • 32. Deforestation In Latin America Essay Deforestation is defined as: the clearing of virgin forests, or intentional destruction or removal of trees and other vegetation for agricultural, commercial, housing, or firewood use without replanting and without allowing time for the forest to regenerate itself (SCRIBD). Deforestation has been a problem in Latin America since the early 1900s and the severity of the dilemma is increasing rapidly. Deforestation not only has consequences for the environment, but also, the indigenous people and the national economy. The logging industry in Latin America is often exploited by multinational companies that are not properly regulated. The land that has provided a home and cultivated indigenous development for centuries is being dissipated rapidly. Due to an exponentially growing global population, there is an increased demand for low priced goods like timber, crops, and meat. Many Latin American countries value revenue from selling these goods over the health of their local ecosystems. The crisis of deforestation and habitat loss is shifting from a local to global problem. As deforestation continues, global warming escalates worldwide, impacting every country and person. About 15 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions come from tropical deforestation, which is more than from all the world s cars, trucks and buses combined (Schwartzman). First conquered by the Spaniards in the early 1500s, El Salvador s history is filled with tension, violence, and exclusion; the settlers robbed the indigenous people of their land and forced them to slave in the coffee plant fields. Not only were the indigenous people deprived of their land, it was kept in the hands of the elite, creating little to no social mobility and further subjugating native Salvadorans. As discontent and tension increased between the elite and the poor, a massacre occurred on January 22, 1932 that was carried out by the National Guard, killing between 10,000 and 40,000 peasants most of whom were indigenous people. Analysis Of The Duchess Of Malfi And The Castle Of Malpe I am sure the Beatles were not thinking about the Middle Ages when they wrote and sang Can t Buy Me Love but this title is very fitting to Medieval Europe. Was it possible to choose who you loved? Not if you were an aristocrat. During this period, marriages were arranged for a gain by both sides usually in the form of property, wealth or power. Falling in love was not an option for most individuals during this time; however, this does not mean that people did not fall in love commonly with someone other than the intended spouse. Women s fate in marriage was usually determined by their fathers with little or no regard for their own feelings. Furthermore, the church basically offered women two options. They were to become celibate and lead the life of a nun or be committed to a loveless marriage and procreate. As we witness in both The Duchess of Malfi and The Castle of Otranto, marriage was not an ideal situation for women. Being forced into arranged marriages, neither the bride nor the groom had the prerogative to fall in love naturally. Women were treated like objects and were forced to marry men of all ages for a variety of different reasons. Society dictated that people marry within their class. It was difficult to rebel against those ideals but there were a few brave enough to do so. An example of this is shown in both The Duchess of Malfi and The Castle of Otranto as they both show how women were treated like objects and how love is portrayed. Regardless of which ... Hearing this song will forever remind me of my parents love for each other and that is something that is special to me. The way the Beatles wrote their music was interesting. The song itself is in F# minor until the acoustic guitar solo in the middle of the song by Harrison, which is when it switches over to G minor (The Beatles Bible). I believe that the solo portion of the song is the best part. This portion of the song is more like a transitional period, as George Harrison does a good job of using relaxing tones. Harrison also plays the claves in the background of the song that serve as something similar to a metronome to keep the rhythm constant in the song. Due to the song s simplicity and beauty, it is no surprise that the tempo is slower. If the song were any faster, the message would be more difficult to portray..
