Nutrient Pollution In Chesapeake Bay
If you live on the Eastern coast, you probably have heard of the Chesapeake Bay. The Bay is
located on the eastern coast of Maryland and is almost 200 miles long and ranges from 4 to 30
miles wide. Holding almost 18 trillion gallons of water, the bay is home to more than 3,600
different species of plants and animals. It is well known for its blue crab and huge fish. Since the
Chesapeake Bay is connected to the Atlantic Ocean and many small rivers, which drain into the
bay, the water in the Chesapeake is a mixture of saltwater and freshwater. This mixture allows a
large variety of aquatic animals to live in harmony. The Chesapeake may be in trouble though, due
to nutrition pollution. (ChesapeakeBay.net)
Nutrient pollution is the process where too many nutrients, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus, are
added to bodies of water and can act like fertilizer, causing excessive growth of algae.
(Oceanservice.noaa.gov) Also referred to as eutrophication, this increase in algae growth can be a
major problem because it eventually leads to dead zones in the Bay. Dead zones, also known as
hypoxia, are extremely harmful to the Chesapeake s overall health. Hypoxia is a reduction in
oxygen present in the water. (Wikipedia) If oxygen levels get low enough it can cause marine life
to either die or leave the area. Excessive amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water causes
algae to grow faster than ecosystems can handle. Significant increases in algae harm water quality,
food resources,

Soil Moisture Lab Report
Soil moisture also affects the yield and competitiveness of the introduced strain. Cowie et al.
(1996a, b) reported that waterlogging at any time have an adverse effect on the seed yield.
Drought conditions severely affect the viability of different species and strains of rhizobia (Joshi
et al., 1981; Osa Afiana and Alexander, 1982). Singh et al. (1992) reported that at a available soil
moisture of 45 per cent nodule number and dry weight of nodules increased while at 30 per cent
available soil moisture, seed yield increased. Strains isolated from arid areas are more tolerant to
dessication and high temperature than strains isolated from cooler and wet region. Bitorrini and

Almendras and Bottomley (1985) also concluded that there was a correlation between pH and
phosphorus application. Phosphorus limitation was exacerbated by low pH and the combination of
pH and phosphorus levels could have strong influence on competition for nodulation.
Iron plays an important role in micro organisms and plants. This is a component of cell and its
deficiency can cause growth inhibition, sporulation, decrease in RNA and DNA synthesis and, can
also change the cell morphology. Iron exists in two states (Fe2+ and Fe3+) and therefore, it is
suitable as an electron transporter. Iron is also known to regulate the bio synthesis of porphyrins,
toxins, vitamins, antibiotics, cytochromes, pigments, siderophores and aromatic compounds. Iron
is present as a cofactor or required by different enzymes and proteins such as peroxidase, superoxide
dismutase, nitrogenase, hydrogenase, glutamate synthase, rhibonuclotide diphosphate reductase,
aconitase, DAHP, synthatase, cytochromes, ferridoxin and flavoproteins. Iron storage protein like
ferritin in animals and bacterio ferritin in micro organisms have also been discovered (Stiefel and
Watt, 1979).

Chimpanzees, Humans, And Humans
Primates, especially Chimpanzee s, are one of the closest relatives to Homo sapiens on planet
Earth today. With the development of zoos in modern society, the observation of these animals has
become a relatively easy task and have allowed for humans to observe their actions and behaviors
in close proximity and in an in depth manner. I have been to numerous zoos throughout my lifetime
and have viewed all sorts of different primates and in particular chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are
highly interesting as they are closely related to humans and many of their behaviors are similar
to that of humans yet, they are taken out of their natural environments and put in these so called
zoo s. Over my time viewing these animals from previous trips to the zoo, it seems that every
time I went to the Chimpanzee exhibit there was less excitement than anticipated and the Chimp
s seemed to very relaxed and essentially just sat or laid around for hours upon hours. After
taking this into consideration, I wanted to test the reasons for this relaxed state and answer the
question of why the Chimpanzee s seem so relaxed and somewhat docile when in captivity? Why
are they so relaxed around the hundreds of zoo goers that go in and out of the zoo every day? Do
they not view them as a threat? These questions helped me form my hypothesis of if a chimpanzee
is in captivity it will have a more relaxed nature than it being in its own natural habitat due to
having no predators and scheduled feeding times.

Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House
The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and
collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements
belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important
and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsens A
Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the
nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society.
The play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades
later. The original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of
trying to reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his
Mabou Mines DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs review, through creative
directorial decisions on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen s
play without drifting from the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions
Breuer took to reconstruct and modernize Ibsen s play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of
reconstruction in theater, which is different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally,
reconstruction is the rebuilding of something that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to
say that Ibsen s A Doll

Frankenstein Vensor Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus...
Titan or Theif In Greek Mythology, there is a tale where a Titan named Prometheus stole fire from
the gods and put it in the clay to make man. Like in the Greek Mythology, Mary Shelley has Victor
Frankenstein steal life from nature. As Mary Shelley states in the title of her book Frankenstein, or
the Modern Prometheus, she parallels Victor Frankensteinto the Titan Prometheus. As Mary Shelley
states in Frankenstein the pursuit of unknown knowledge is dangerous. So much has been done... I
will pioneer a new way, explain unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of
creation( Chapter 3). . This quote means that Victor wants to explore dangerous areas that should
not be explored. Dangerous and unknown knowledge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prometheus punishment for stealing fire from the Greeks Gods was an eternal hell where a bird
will rip out his liver daily for eternity. For Victor Frankenstein, his punishment was similar to
Prometheus s. For Victor Frankenstein, his punishment was similar to Prometheus s. He too
suffered daily as a reminder of what he did. Victor Frankenstein s punishment is also similar to
Prometheus because he too has something ripped away from him. Prometheus had his liver ripped
away and Victor Frankenstein had his love ones taken away from him. Both Prometheus and Victor
Frankenstein suffer by playing God, . Prometheus crafts man while Victor crafts the daemon. In
Paradise Lost by John Milton, Satan and his legion of followers were cast out of Heaven and put
into Hell. Satan was cast out because he challenged the authority of God. Like Victor Frankenstein
and Prometheus the Titan, Satan did something that caused him to lose his title. Victor Frankenstein
was a smart young man that had a lot of promise and potential. He lost all of it because he
tampered with nature s authority. Prometheus was a powerful Titan that stole the right to make life
from Zeus; he too stole the power from a higher authority. All three characters, Satan, Prometheus,
and Victor, ended up in their own personal Hell. For Satan, he was thrown out of Heaven and was
chained to the burning lake in Hell. Prometheus s

Corporal Punishment And Its Usage
Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in
the name of discipline had caught my eye for several reasons. One of the most important reasons
is that I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age
when my teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving.
That was in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and parents are allowed to use corporal punishment
freely without any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well educated family
that showed me what love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn t accept what that
teacher did and went to tell on her. They thought that a teacher should never do any kind of
physical harm to their children, even if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read
more about corporal punishment and its usage in the United States. The key terms that are
important in this paper are defined to give a full understanding of the issue. The term corporal
punishment is defined as the act of disciplining a child through physical means ( Corporal
Punishment , 2006, p.1). However, there is a legal definition that most states use, which says,
Parents are allowed to use reasonable force in physically disciplining their children ( Corporal
Punishment , 2006, p.3). Later on, I will also talk about the effective ways of disciplining a child
that is nonphysical methods. One of them is timeouts which is

Descartes Proof That The Mind And The Body
Descartes proof that the Mind and the Body are distinct substances is as follows, First Descartes
asserts that everything that can be clearly and distinctly understood is within the ability to be
created by God as to correspond identically with the way that Descartes understand things in the
world. It follows from this assertion that because Descartes is able to clearly and distinctly
understand one thing apart from one another is enough to make them noticeably different in
substance. Descartes follows this with the notion of the mind, saying that because one is able to
possess a clear and distinct understanding of their self as a distinct and separate substance, which is
not extended into the environment and handles all of the logical thinking. He continues to say that
he possesses a clear and distinct understanding of the body as an extended and unthinking. He
finishes with the conclusion that this demonstrates that the body and the mind are actually distinct
form one another.
By saying that they are distinct substances, in Descartes overall argument, means that the mind and
the body are composed primarily of two separate and unique substances and that they are unable to
share properties such as that the body is the corporeal substance that experiences the sensations of
the world, or in other words the body s substance is that of feeling. The mind is an ethereal
substance that is responsible for reason and rationality. They are distinct in that their existence is

Katherine The Shrew
In Act 5, Scene 2, lines 152 196, of The Taming of the Shrew, Katherine portrays her
transformation from an undesirable shrew to an obedient wife as she depicts to Bianca and
Widow the respect and loyalty that a woman s lord, life, [and] keeper deserves (162). After being
encouraged by Petruchio, whom had recently placed a bet with Lucentio and Hortensio on whose
wifewould be the most obedient, to lecture the two women on their wifely responsibilities, she
remarked on the harsh burdens of a man compared to the composed lifestyle of a woman. While
Lucentio and Hortensio were lead to believe that Petruchio finally tamed Katherine into a devoted
and subservient wife, the reality was that her words were full of hidden sarcasm; the shrew was...

Supporting the viewpoint that Katherine has maintained her combative personality throughout the
play, the word fie could be interpreted as an exclamation expressing...disgust or indignant
reproach, (OED 3). Using this definition, the reader can visualize Katherine scolding the women
on their behavior as if they were naughty children, and feeling better about herself for doing so.
On the contrary, using fie in a sentence could indicate trust (OED 1). The audience could see
Katherine portraying the lines of Fie, fie!...To wound thy lord, thy king, thy governor. / It blots
thy beauty as frosts do bite the meads, as Trust me, ladies. This is how you should really treat your
husband, in order to earn the affection she desired from Petruchio (152, 154 155). This scene
represented the fact that Katherine had not been tamed in the slightest; she just knew what to do in
order to feel better about herself and to get what she wanted from

Lament for a son
Lament for a son is book written by Nicholas Wolterstorff, who is mourning the premature death of
his son Eric who passed away in a mountain climbing accident in Austria. Nicholas Wolterstorff is
an American philosopher and currently the Noah Porter Emeritus Professor of Philosophical
Theology at Yale University. He is a writer with philosophical and theological interests. He has
written books on aesthetics, epistemology, political philosophy, philosophy of religion,

When a loved when is gone it feels like a hole in the world. With much grief he says, Never again
will anyone inhabit the world the way he did. Questions I have can never now get answers. The
world is emptier. My son is gone. Only a hole remains, Avoid, a gap, never to be filled (33). This
phrase describes his emotions and how he views the world without his son. The author gives
advice on what to say to someone who is mourning. He says to never say its Ok because its never
okay and death is awful. What I need to hear from you is that you recognize how painful it is. I
need to hear from you that you are with me in my desperation (34). When some passes away no
one really knows what his or her loved ones are feeling because each death is unique and each
person is different. The wisest of words don t even make the pain go away, and all that can be done
is lending an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on.
When there is nothing one can do to make things better again, to bring someone back, to be
happy again, all your left is emptiness. The author feels like something is over and that his life is
divided in a before and after. Something is over (46). The author goes on to have an out of body
experience where he attaches himself to Eric. He realizes that Eric s death is not only his loss but
also Eric s loss because he will never be able to do things he always wanted to do or be with his
family again. The

Childhood Is Common For All Children
Childhood is common to all children, however it is fragmented and constructed by the diversity
of children s lives (James James, 2004). Childhood is both a historically and culturally
constructed process, as before the Middle Ages the concept of childhood did not exist, children
had no distinctive social status compared with adults (James James, 2004). Moreover, in a
contemporary society children are active participants in their own social worlds, childhood has
become a very cultural process, how adults see children and the way they behave towards them
shapes children s lived experiences (James James, 2004). In society adults have unwritten,
invisible control over children and regulate their lives to a certain extent. Space therefore places
an important role on how adults obtain their regulation over children, and to what extent children
can resist their control. For example, within cyberspace children are much more resistant to
control as adults cannot control what is online. As result as this children are almost free agents to
learn and explore, and it also gives children with physical disabilities the chance to be a normal
child online. Nevertheless, control over children has increased hugely over the years as today the
natural innocence of children is being questioned and children are becoming subject to tighter
regimes of surveillance and new forms of ordering (James James, 2004). Moreover this results in
the regulation and control of children s cultures

Explain How the Social and Economic Changes Affected Gaucho Life
Due to the huge migration to Latin America, foreigners introduced the gauchos to many changes
that would have a lasting effect. Two of the main changes felt by the gauchos included social and
economic restructuring. One must understand that history about the gauchos can potentially be
biased. This is due to the fact that only news that is interesting is reported and only bad news is
interesting. This clash of recorded history and actual history causes us to question what actually
occurred during this time period. The gauchos lifestyle suffered greatly because of these social and
economic changes. New institutions, values and beliefs all aided the transformation ... Show more

Gauchos social lives covered many interesting areas. These traditional acts decreased because of the
new laws. Previously, gauchos would roam the pampa, continuously moving onward to unknown
destinations. This freedom became restricted with the invention of the fence. The fence also
impacted other areas of the gauchos lives including economically. The fence forced the change
from a ranching to farming. The need for ranchers decreased, which put gauchos out of work.
These fences also kept animals contained to specific pastures. Before this gauchos would kill
roaming horses for fun, cattle for food and skins, and ostrich for feathers. These fences set
territories that kept the gaucho from wandering freely. Another change that kept the gaucho from
wandering freely involved vagrancy laws. The government targeted to the gaucho and aimed to get
rid of them, or at least tame them. Gauchos now had to carry something similar to a travel permit.
This again restricted their unique lifestyle. Because the government viewed the gauchos as good
fighters, they enlisted many to serve in the military. This impacted their lives socially and
economically. Gauchos social lives slowed down enormously because of the military. They had to
work continuously. Economically they benefited because they no longer had to look for ways to
support their basic needs. The government took care of making them sustain life.

Flood Case Study
Other Factors Contributing to the Flood
The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of
floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the
Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading
to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to
soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). The
construction of the eastern embankment increased aggradation on the western side of the river,
making the embankment vulnerable to breaching (Sinha, 2009). Furthermore, Chakraborty et al
(2010) noted that avulsion was more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are more deadly than ordinary floods because they intensify the moment the dams and
embankments experience failures and breaches respectively (Singh and Kumar (2013); Singh and
Kumar, 2017). The high discharge of water from rivers can cause extensive damage to life and
property (Singh Kumar, 2017), both of which include livestock, croplands and public utilities (i.e.
electricity, telephones, and roads) (Singh Kumar, 2013). For instance, a lot of agricultural land was
rendered uncultivable because the flood had transported and deposited excess sediment
(Chakraborty et al., 2010).
Singh and Kumar (2013) noted that millions of people in India are affected by flash floods
yearly. In this regard, it can be deduced that countless people were displaced, many villages were
flooded, and Bihar s infrastructure was compromised (Kale, 2008). While there have been no
reliable estimate of deaths and loss of properties for the flood event, it can be said that more than
30 million people were affected (Sinha, 2009). The 2008 flood was an unprecedented human
misery due to increased population density (Kale, 2008).
Short term Solution Set in Motion
Sometime in January 2009, the breach in the eastern embankment was repaired (Sinha et al., 2013).
On the 26th of January 2009, the Kosi River returned to its former stream channel, with the river
being once again confined (Sinha, 2009), as if the flood had never

And when children are abused, the foster care system came up to help. Foster families provide a
home for children who have been abandoned, neglected or abused. These children are in need of
nurturing families who will help them heal and grow ( Be a Foster or Adoptive Parent ). If the
Foster care system was not in this world, then today billion of children would be homeless or
died, so that s why the world need Foster Care. When children are abused or neglected by their
parents, or when the parents cannot for any of a number of reasons care for their children,
someone must intervene to see that the children are adequately looked after. That someone is
usually the government, and the intervention is frequently foster care steps in. Every 10 seconds
a new case come to foster care, about new children getting abused. Once the children are safely

Love throughout the years has been interpreted as an intense interpersonal attraction ( I love my

the emotional closeness of familial love, or to the platonic love that defines friendship, to the
profound union or devotion of religious love. Love had been defined by individuals to get close to
someone who have actual feelings for or deeply care about, and one that you will actually risk

The speaker urges his love to live with him and enjoy the pleasures of the day. Sir Walter Raleigh
wrote a response to this poem in 1600 called The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd. He uses the
nymph as the speaker, responding to the shepherd. There are no clues to the setting or the nymph
s physical appearance. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things.
The nymph thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had
proposed to her. The shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very
pessimistic. The structure of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four
lines each. This shows that The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the
shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. In each ideal proposal he gives, she gives him
the realistic answer to why they cannot be together.
Next, the speaker in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love is a young shepherd who proposes a
passionate love affair to the girl he desires. He uses nature largely to appeal to her senses. He
tells her they will sit and watch the other shepherds work and listen to the birds sing. This
implies that they will have a life of pleasure and relaxation. He says he will make beds of roses
and give her fragrant posies (Marlowe 1). He promises to outfit her in fine clothes and that she will
not want for anything. He uses all these tempting things to help his

The Literary Works Of The First Century Romans
Understanding ancient civilizations is always a hard process. The only resources that are readily
available, are the texts written by people of the times. But which helps better the understanding of
the society and political structures: historical or literary works? The first century Romans are a
great example of this. The literary works of the first century Romans, help further the knowledge
about the ancient civilization. While the historical works do show a lot of the facts from the era,
the literary works possess more information about the people s lives in that time. The political
aspects of the Romans were very advanced. The government system they had set up, was better than
any of the other civilizations of the time. (Virgil, Aeneid) Under the rule of Augustus, the Romans
were at some of the strongest times of the empire s existence. The empire in this time conquered
most of the known world. They were not a force to be taken lightly. Virgil connected the political
aspects of his time to the Greek gods quite often. He would reference the Roman empireas being
strong and mighty much like the gods. (Virgil, Aeneid) He also described the empire as always in a
state of tranquility, order, and emotional stability. (Virgil, Aeneid) Augustus was also highly
regarded to during his reign. One historical fact from the Aeneid that Virgil mentions, would be the
hatred between Carthageand Rome. This was truly a big struggle during the ancient Roman times.

Tolerance In Strange Fruit
Tolerance is one of the most valuable attributes a person can have. Some people have and
abundance of it, and others not so much. In our world today, acts of tolerance are few and far in
between, as the sources show. Though tolerance is so rare, through diversity and a strong ethical
sense it is possible to learn to tolerate and accept, even if not all of our experiences are the same.
To begin with, the way people experience things affects the way they learn about tolerance. If you
look at the video Strange Fruit, it shows two individuals with vastly different upbringings and life
experiences. It shows how tolerance is learned and passed down through generations, and how it
affects a person s views. This idea is, of course, important because... Show more content on

Being brought up in an environment where no one is the same and everyone has different ideals
makes it easier for some to build up tolerance. In the short film My So Called Enemy, these girls
who are merged together come from places where near everyone is forced to think and behave
the same. But as these girls begin to experience different thoughts they begin to learn to accept
those differences. This shows that exposure leads to understanding, which then leads to tolerance
or acceptance. Another example of diversity affecting tolerance is the video Strange Fruit. A boy
is killed because of the color of his skin by a boy of a different color, due to the guidance of an
adult. The boy regretted his actions after the act was done. The remorse the boy felt shows that
though he was taught not to accept those who were different, and even though he had done
something awful because of it he learned that tolerance. Being exposed to new things, and diverse

Benefits Of Having A Green Building
A green building is a structure that is eco friendly to the environment and does not harm the nature
that is present around it. The word eco friendly is familiarized through sustaining and conserving
the environment and its crucial features that help keep this world running and thriving. It is the
consequence of humans to continue to use harmful chemicals and materials that may destroy the
world and its atmosphere entirely. The greenhouse project in biology demonstrated a small model
of a possible green house that is friendly to the nature and environmentaround it and can overall
encourage the use of healthy products and actions. Benefits of having a green house is that it will
help the environment, encourage sustainability of natural resources, and will overall benefit the
consumers economically. Benefits of having a greenhouse is that it will help the environment. For
example, the use of having an eco friendly house will help to reduce the impact humans have on the
environment (The Nest). A friendly house to the environment will lower negative impact on the
world. It will allow the world to continue to relieve its functions without major harmful intervening
from human beings. The actions of creating this kind of house can help with the depletion of the
Earth s functions so the rest of human beings may live on this Earth without a negative
consequence. Another reason eco friendly houses have benefits is because it will help with the use
of electricity

Driving At A Young Age
Do you think that 16 year old kids are not able to learn how to drive? Some people say that 16
year olds should not be allowed to drive because of safety concerns. They are never going to
learn to overcome safety concerns at 16 and then when they are 18 there will be the same
problems. Therefore kids should learn to drive at 16. Learning how to deal with things at a
young age is important for adult knowledge. Learning how to deal with problems at a young age
gives people the ability to solve problems that may come up in their adult lives. Also if you learn
at an early age it gives you life experience. For instance learning how to stop in different situations
at a young age will give them experience to make better stopping decisions as an

Dramatic Irony In The Nun s Priest
The Nun s Priest s Tale From the prologue of this tale, we learn that the Priest has dealt with
being very low and ending up with good fortune. He is also a witty, self effacing preacher. The
nun s priest tells the tale because the host asks if any can tell a tale that will lighten the mood
and will make the company happy again. The Priest is travelling with the Prioress and her nun.
He is a goodly man and a sweet priest who says that as he tells his tale that if he does not tell of a
happy and humorous tale that he is to be blamed. The Nun s Priest tale begins with a rooster
who awakes from a terrifying dream where he is being attacked by a large, furry, red animal and is

There is dramatic irony second when he has his terrible dream and his wife tells him not to
worry about it and that dreams don t mean anything and when his dream comes true later. There
is verbal irony seen in the way that the rooster and the fox act like humans do and instead of
humans acting like animals, now it is animals acting like humans. There is also irony connected
with the storyteller because the Nun s Priest is very peaceful and very sheltered and this is seen
in the tale because the rooster is taken care of and is told how to act by his wife and in real life,
the priest is told what to do by the Prioress. The story has irony to the Manciple s Tale because in
the Nun s Priest tale, the rooster tricks the fox after the fox has tricked him many times and in
the Manciple s Tale, the Manciple s is told that he is going to be tricked by the Cook for revenge.
There is a comparison of irony in these two stories because they both deal with poor people who
end up having consequences to what they have done. There is also situational irony in the Nun s
Priest s tale because you think that because it is a fox chasing a rooster that surely the rooster will
end up getting eaten, but what really happens is that the rooster ends up tricking the fox and doesn t

Strom Thurmond was a Democrat? George Bush was a strong opposer of black voting rights? Times

Abstract:
Optical information is transmitted in the form of digital images is becoming a large method of
communication in the modern age but still the images reach after transmission is often depraved
with noises so the received images demand processing before it can be used in application. Our
motive is that to eliminate the noise from images that is underwater images also improve the
image , underwater images consist of different kinds of noises like random noise, speckle noise,
Gaussian noise, salt and pepper noise, Brownian noise etc. Image De noising is involved
manipulation of images data to produce a visually high quality, images processing of improving the
quality of images by enhancing its features. The underwater image processing area has accepted
appreciable attention within the last decades so using some proper kind of filter it is possible.
The filter we will employ is a bilateral filter for smoothing the images. It is required because of a

The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy Essay
The term identity is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as blah blah blah . This concept can
be viewed as personal and individual to one s self, and is distinguished as an umbrella term to
attributes such as; consciousness, heritage, name, appearance, and the soul. As Sterne s novel
Tristram Shandy draws influence from John Locke s An Essay of Human Understanding, in which
Locke discusses the origin of personal identity, the individual identity is evidently reflected within
the text. The novel demonstrates Sterne s interpretation of the personal identity through the
construction of each of his unique characterisations. Tristram Shandy discusses the concept and

Sterne can be seen to draw influence from the 18th Century philosopher, John Locke. Locke
discusses the theory that individual identity is formed through consciousness and experience, and
not upon the soul and body; this may show us wherein personal identity consists: not in the identity
of substance, but, as I have said, in the identity of consciousness. (Locke). As Tristram believes the
other misfortunate experiences within his childhood amount to his individual identity, this also
suggests an origin of identity developed from his personal experiences. He believes that
experiencing the many misfortunes such as his accidental naming and castration, disturbance as a
homunculus and broken nose reshape his identity and that he is in a sense doomed to live a
misfortunate life. In response to reading Tristram Shandy alongside the work of Locke, Heather
Keenleyside states that such readings often understand Tristram Shandy as a novelization of Locke
s much discussed distinction [...] On this view, Tristram Shandy follows Locke in arguing for the
priority of personal identity over the body and its associates: the family and the species, birth and
death. (Keenleyside, pg117) The protagonist states that the soul and body are joint sharers in
everything they get (Sterne, pg435), composing them as separate but equal quantities of his

Animals Are Losing Their Fear Of Animals
Mike Conover, Ph.D., Professor, Berryman Institute and Department of Wildland Resources of
USU said, Animals are losing their fear of people and people are losing their fear of animals, so
it s a deadly combination. Fifty years ago, if somebody saw a wolf they d be terrified, and they
would go inside and bolt the front door of their house. And now, of course, people travel to
Yellowstone National Park to see one and they get as close as they can to get a good photograph, .
Conover said that when people used to shoot predators on sight, mountain lions, wolves, bears and
alligators knew to stay away. Huntingteaches animals to fear humans which reduces the number of
attacks.
There are people who are opposed to hunting all together whether because of their moral beliefs or
because they think hunters are ruining nature; there are also those who enjoy hunting and see it as
a necessary part of animal human cohabitation. However, the third perspective I am going to
describe sounds very much like an older sister sick of listening to her little siblings fight. People
with this opinion seem to be very few and far between, mostly because this subject evokes strong
emotions, but they say that hunters are not needed, nature did just fine all on its own before
humans showed up. Population control by humans would not be needed if we had not eliminated
the predator population which naturally controlled prey populations. Animals used to move around
as needed, but now they often encroach

Essay On Rappaccini s Daughter
The narrator stated, To Beatrice so radically had her earthly part been wrought upon by
Rappaccini s skill as poison had been life, so the powerful antidote was death(Hawthorne 136). In
Nathanial Hawthorne s Rappaccini s Daughter, readers may notice how the story relates to the
Garden of Eden. Dr. Rappaccini s daughter is confined to the garden. Even though Dr. Rappaccini

because, she is confined to the garden, unable to enjoy her life, nor is she allowed to have a love

The experiment causes Beatrice to be poisonous which the reason why she is in confinement is.
Hawthorne s narrator acknowledges, Whether Dr. Rappaccini had finish his labors in the garden
or that his watchful eye had caught the stranger s face, he now took his daughter arm and retired

Mutiny In Romeo And Juliet
Unfamiliar WordEducated GuessDictionary Definition Piteous This word s prefix is similar to
pity. Therefore it should logically mean the two families will reunite with pity intertwined in

describe piteous as, deserving or arousing pity. I am proud of myself for using the technique of
observing the prefix and therefore understanding the meaning of the word. Civil In this particular
sentence Shakespeare uses irony to discuss two corrupt views who wholeheartedly believe their
perspective is civilized not comprehending that numerous deaths lay on their shoulders. Similar to
my analyzation this word s true intention describes citizens who (ironically) are civilized,
cultured and polite with the other social classes. DignityA person who has overcome adversities
and is worthy to be elevated in the social hierarchy, gaining both respect, equality, and self

social position in the overall hierarchy. It is truly astounding that a word through the ages can

Comparison of US Bill of Rights and The Canadian Charter...
BACKGROUND OF THE BILL OF RIGHTS
The United States Bill of Rights came into being as a result of a promise made by the Fathers of
Confederation to the states during the struggle for ratification of the Constitution in 1787 88. A
great number of the states made as a condition for their ratification, the addition of amendments,
which would guarantee citizens protection of their rights against the central government. Thus, we
have a rather interesting situation in which the entrenchment of a bill of rights in the American
Constitution was done by the virtual demand of the states, they themselves fearing a central
government which was not legally constrained and restricted as far as its powers were concerned.
The resulting Bill of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The entrenchment of rights in the Canadian Constitution comes after long experience with a system
of parliamentary supremacy. The American judicial tradition of treating the written constitution as
fundamental law cannot have an instant Canadian counterpart. Thus, it does not follow that the
Canadian courts will necessarily claim a role comparable to that of courts in the United States, nor
is it clear that the representative bodies in Canada would tolerate such a judicial assertion of power.
Opposition by government bodies to the Charter have already occurred in Canada, where the Parti
Quebecois government of Quebec invoked the notwithstanding the Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms clause for the purpose of protecting their language laws from attack under the charter.

The Israeli Palestinian Conflict And The Jewish Movement
Starting in the late 19th century, the Israeli Palestinian conflict has been a long standing clash
between the Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs due to several significant events. The Israeli
palestinian conflict is one that goes way back to the time of the Old Testament. The land known as
Israel, was given to the jewish people by God through Abraham. God Promised to give Abraham s
descendants the land eternally. Throughout the thousand of years, thousands of Arabs have moved
to those lands which they called Palestine. When it comes to whom should own the land, both
sides have credible arguments. The Jews say that it is written in the Bible while the Palestinian
Arabs say that they have ruled the land for thousand of years. The Palestinian Arabs are also the
majority of the population in that region. In the late 19th century, Theodor Herzl founded a group
of Jews called the Zionists. According the the Encyclopedia Britannica, Zionism is the Jewish
nationalist movement that has had as its goal the creation and support of a Jewish national state in
Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews. The Zionist immediately began to relocate european
Jews to four main cities in Palestine. These cities were Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed and Tiberias.
During this time, Palestine was part of the Ottoman empire and under direct control of the Ottoman
Capital. Fast forwarding a couple of decades to WWI, the Ottoman Empire began to weaken. In

Out of the three hard paragraphs I gave him, he only understood one of them. For example,

paragraph, he was very confused on what the paragraph meant because he had no prior
background knowledge of chemistry. Because of words such as Pyrex and acetic acid, he could
not figure out the subject of the text. Retrospectively, the difficulty of the words did affect his
ability to use background knowledge, which is something that I learned after giving him this
experiment. Nonetheless, in the end, he was not able to correctly tell me what the paragraph was
about, and he guessed that it was about making frozen yogurt. The other paragraph that he got
wrong was one that talked about coding a program. Richard never coded a program in his life, so
he did not understand what the paragraph was describing. He confused the word language as the
method of human communication rather than a programming language, so as a result, he thought
the paragraph was about learning a new language. Lastly, the one paragraph he got correct in the
hard part of test 1 was the paragraph about brain surgery. Even though this topic is something
Richard personally does not have experience, it is something that he has seen in cartoons or
videos. Therefore, as he read this paragraph, he used terms such as incision in the scalp and
aneurysm to conclude that it was indeed about brain surgery. From the results of test 1 and test 2, I
concluded that having background knowledge is essential in understanding text. Because Richard

Opportunity Cost. Opportunity cost is the cost of any activity measured in terms of the value of
the next best alternative forgone (that is not chosen). It is the sacrifice related to the second best
choice available to someone, or group, who has picked among several mutually exclusive choices.
The opportunity cost is also the cost (as a lost benefit) of the forgone products after making a

Explicit costs are opportunity costs that involve direct monetary payment by producers. The
opportunity cost of the factors of production not already owned by a producer is the price that the
producer has to pay for them. For instance, a firm spends $100 on electrical power consumed,
their opportunity cost is $100. The firm has sacrificed $100, which could have been spent on other
factors of production. Now lets look at some real life examples from my life inorder to understand
Opportunity Costs better.
Opportunity Cost Examples that I myself have been across I have only Rs 1000 to spend and I
have two choices, I can eat at a nice restaurant or buy a good cricket bat instead. I spend my Rs
1000 on buying the cricket bat, then the opportunity cost of that choice is the delicious meal I did
not choose and let go.
Opportunity Cost also works in regards to time. Eg I only have two hours of free time. I could
either go to a movie or meet a friend of mine. I choose to spend my time at the movie, the
opportunity cost of this decision is the time I could have spent enjoying the company of my friend.

European Canada ways. Evidently this has not worked. The course pack talks about the differences
of ideologies being because of different languages, assumptions, and cultural views. In order to
narrow the gap we need to understand these differences on both sides to a greater extent.
Beliefs and culture were vastly different between Canada and the Aboriginals which lead to certain
actions made by the government. For example the First Nations believe in elders educating their
children through stories and the children learning through experiences. Canadians did not recognize
this form of teaching and so assumed they did not have any education in place. The same thing
happened with religion and law and the Canadians thought they would be helping the First Nations
but in reality all they caused was confusion and a divide between two cultures as a result of their
ignorance to understand any view other than their own. This issue rose again with the creation of
treaties with the Crown, the Crown believing that they owned the land. The Aboriginal people
never understood this as they don t believe someone

The Western Front Of The European Theater
The Eastern Front of the European theater saw some of the harshest conditions and most intense
combat of the second World War. Germany and Russia had been enemies for centuries and with
Hitler s belief that Marxism and Judaism were one in the same, the stage was set for a war
between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany. Hitler broke the non aggression pact he had signed
with Stalin and invaded the Soviet Union on June 22nd, 1941. Neither side was prepared for the
ferocity and destruction that was to follow. Hitler s intention had always been to remove all
undesirables from Europe in whatever way possible. The Nazi definition of undesirable included
the Soviet s in Eastern Europe. The initial plans for cleansing all of Europe of anyone... Show more

The fact that the Wehrmacht had defeated France in under three months in early 1940 only
solidified Hitler s confidence in the superiority of Germany s military. Hitler believed that a
quick attack and swift capture of Moscow, before the Soviet Union could prepare for such a
move, would ensure victory. The Soviet Union was not prepared for war. In the 1930 s, Stalin
had cleansed the Soviet military of all those whom he saw as a threat to his power which left the
Red Army with few experienced leaders. The Soviet military was also ill equipped to fight
which was evidenced by the difficulties the Soviets had in Finland in 1939. Stalin had signed the
non aggression treaty with Hitler in hopes that the German army would get into a long and drawn
out fight with the French and British, as they had in World War I, leaving Stalin with time to
prepare his forces. Stalin simply did not trust the Germans to honor the non aggression pact and
knew Germany would attack eventually. Leading up to the invasion, Stalin received several
intelligence reports indicating Hitler s intention to invade. Over 3 Million Wehrmacht soldiers had
massed along 1,800 miles of the Soviet border, yet Stalin forbid his soldiers from preparing for a
preemptive strike against the German forces because he did not wish to provoke Hitler. Stalin
made a critical mistake by ignoring his commanders in the field and ignoring intelligence reports on
the situation. Stalin refused to believe

Parasailing Short Story
Parasailing Sailing over a hundred feet above blue waters sounds incredible, right? Well, I have
it was honestly the most terrifying and thrilling thing I have ever done. I got onto the ship to get
to the bigger bout and thoughts started to creep into my head like a shark was going to attack
me, or I was going to drown. My heart was beating at least 200 beats per second. Too start off this
great story, I got up in the morning of a sunny and bright day at the beach. I was at my Aunt
Lorraine s and she was like Shadee, do you want to do something crazy.
So, I said Yes, of course, I would love to! Before we went to find something too do we went and
got breakfast, and picked up my grandmother. Meanwhile sitting at the beach, we saw this yellow
banana looking raft going across the ocean. I asked, What the heck is that. They replied, I have no
idea. As my Grammy Kim got up, we all got up. My Aunt Rainy asked, Where are you going.
Kim said, To see where those boats are taking them. While, we walking we found out the yellow
raft is called a banana boat. Which was extremely ironic. We laugh for at least ten minutes. It was
so hilarious. The banana boat was taking people to a bigger boat called the Captain. I said, Can we
go parasailing or just ride the Banana Boat? As a man started walking up to us he said, Hi, my
name is Seth. I work for the Banana Boat and parasailing company. Are you guy interested in riding

Humorous Best Man Speech Essay examples
Humorous Best Man Speech
The hotel management have asked me to ask you not to stand on the tables or chairs during the
standing ovation at the end of my speech.
Now, I asked around for an idea of how long my speech should last, and the general response was
about as long as it takes the groom to make love. So with that in mind, thank you, you have been
a wonderful audience. (Sit and then get back up) I think an introduction is worthwhile. For those
of you who do not yet know me my name is Whatwouldvouliketodrink. I hope as many of you will
come and say hello at the bar later, but I do insist you use my full name.
At this point I would like to thank the groom for his kind words. I would also like to add ... Show

Love, The bride
Now while I cannot promise to keep to each of these demands. I have tried to take the
responsibility of best man very seriously indeed. I would like to share with you some of my
duties I have been involved with. One of my first tasks was to help get the groom fitted for a
kilt. We had arranged to meet up at the kilt hire shop and I was running. a little late so when I
arrived he had already chosen a kilt. What s the tartan? (pronounced Tart in) I asked to which he
answered Oh, I m pretty sure the bride will be wearing a dress.
Another of my tasks was the potentially delicate duty of keeping the groom s ex girlfriends out of
the way today. Thankfully this has

Media Influence On American Popular Culture
American popular culture which was ideological, worked to promote the interests of American
capitalism. Culture industries were controlled by giant corporations which were well organised to
meet the demands of the commercial system of culture that sold the values, life styles and
institutions suiting the American way of life. Walter Benjamin, an affiliate of the Frankfurt
School took a positive stand to the spurting of mass media in the US, treating it as an organ of
social progress. In his The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction (1969), Benjamin
noted how the new mass media supplanted older forms of culture where by the mass reproduction
of photography, film, recordings, and publications replaced the emphasis on the originality and
aura of the work of art in an earlier era (Kellner... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Benjamin believed that freed from the mystification of high culture, media culture could cultivate
more critical individuals capable of judging and analyzing their cultures, just as sports fans could
dissect and evaluate athletic activities. Compounding this, Benjamin believed that by processing
the rush of images created by cinema, the subjectivities were able to ward off and comprehend the
flux of turbulence of experience in industrialized, urbanized societies. In his essay entitled The
Artist as Producer (1999 [1934]) Benjamin argued that progressive cultural creators should
refunction the apparatus of cultural production, turning theatre and film, for instance, into a forum
of political enlightenment of progressive social change. Benjamin recognised that media could
have conservative effects and films could create a new kind of ideological magic through the cult
of celebrity and techniques like the close up that fetishized certain star or images via the
technology of cinema. Thus he remains one of the first radical critics to look carefully at the form
and technology of media culture in appraising its complex nature and effects

Conversion Therapy Argumentative Analysis
On December 24, 2014, Leelah Alcorn, a transgender teenager, committed suicide by jumping in
front of oncoming traffic. She had wrote in her suicide note that was posted online that she
ended her own life because her parents did not accept her as transgender and they also tried to
send her to a Christian conversion therapy to fix her. She wanted the world to understand that no
one can change her and she wanted her story to inspire others to take action against conversion
therapies. She also wanted other members of the LGBT+ community to feel okay with
themselves. Many people who hear of this story do not even know what conversion therapy is,
even though it does play a very important part of her story. Conversion therapy is described as...

Banning these therapies allows professional, trained therapists help others be more comfortable
with themselves. Also, it would help limit the amount of young teens being forced to change and
help homosexual and transgender people not have such a large risk of depression or other
confidence issues. If conversion therapies are continued to be allowed in the United States, more
of these problems will arise and it may be too late to fix them. As Leelah Alcorn wrote in her
suicide note, [if you are] against transgender people don t ever say that to someone, especially
your kid. That won t do anything but make them hate them self. That s exactly what it did to me (
Suicide Note ). Though conversion therapy is not the main cause of suicide among teens, it
obviously plays a big role. People need to see and understand that being homosexual, transgender,
or anything in between is not an illness and no one should have to change for someone else. It s
time that the United States come together to start accepting everyone for who they

The Importance Of Education In Special Education
In the study by Thornton, McKissick, Spooner, Lo, Anderson (2015), two high school students
with a specific learning disability (SLD) were used. The first participant was Wesley, who was 15
years old and had delays in processing information with his short term memory, along with having
difficulties with his organization skills. Wesley was placed on an individual educationplan (IEP)
under the category of SLD in reading comprehension. The second participant was Amber, who was
16 years old and has delays in reading comprehension and mathematical calculation. Amber was also
diagnosed with a visual impairment and needs her written materials enlarged.
In this study, the dependent variable was the science performance on the biology assessments. The
variable was measured through the use of the daily 10 item tests. Each assessment followed the
same format, which was: 5 matching questions with a word bank of 10 words, two multiple choice
questions with four options each, and three short answer questions which had two part response.
This study was important to do because students with disabilities struggle in core subjects,
especially science. This study was conducted to see if there is a research based way to effectively
help these students.
For this study, each daily science lesson in the biology class was given by the science teacher. The
special education teacher was in the classroom to support the science teacher. Every day, the general

Pierre Bourdieu Habitus
The habitus, a product of history, produces individual and collective practices more history in
accordance with the schemes generated by history. It ensures the active presence of past
experiences, which, deposited in each organism in the form of schemes of perception, thought and
action, tend to guarantee the correctness of practices and their constancy over time, more reliably
than all formal rules and explicit norms.
Bourdieu, Pierre, and Richard Nice. Structures, Habitus, Practices. The Logic of Practice, Stanford

The passage above, is the late 20th century author Pierre Bourdieu defined concept of the term

they become secondary compared to the concept of habitus. In fact, an example of this shift in
priorities is seen and discussed most commonly within delinquency in relation to gangs specifically.

True Meaning Of Love In Marriage
True Meaning of Love in Marriage What is true love? True love is caring about the health, well
being, and happiness of another person to a greater degree than your own health, well being, and
happiness. In Their Eyes were watching God, the main character Janie, is involved in three
marriages that help with her self development. She is a 17 year old beautiful African American
with white ancestors.q?/ To begin, Janie is raised by her grandmother, Nanny, who wants Janie to
be happy and have a good life. Janie only knows about marriageand lovebased on what her
grandmother has told her. During the time of marriage, Janie spends most of her time to find out
the true meaning of love instead of living a life off of dreams and fantasies. She pursues her
dreams no matter what, even though they might not come true. Janie s life has been a journey
which is shown by the three different marriages she has been involved in. The first two
marriages with Logan and Joe are not what she hoped they would be and they never lasted well.
The third marriage with Tea Cake ends way too soon. In Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora
Neale Hurston, she uses Janie s marriages with Logan, Joe, and Tea Cake to show that true love
takes a lifetime to find. Therefore, Janie s first marriage with Logan Killicks is not her choice, but
rather Nanny s decision. Nanny insisted that he is the perfect man for her to marry. Janie is

The Selfish Gene Chapter Summary
The Selfish Gene is a book written by Richard Dawkins, in 1976. The Selfish Gene is a very
historic book in science. Dawkins had many special views on genes, evolution, and people in
general. In 1976 there were few people who truly understood the mix of humans and animals.
Dawkins had views on the connection of animals and humans. The Selfish Genedoes not have a
specific story or any fiction. The Selfish Genewas a biography by Dawkins. His ideas, studies, and
experiments all made up his biography. There are many main ideas in the Selfish Gene but one of
the most important is evolution. Evolution is the process which different kinds of living organisms
are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of Earth. There

of species is what holds natural selection. In chapter six, the theory of genemanship and
individual altruism. Individual altruism is when the actions of one person or animal increase the
skills of another. Individual altruism has an impact with genes because of the theory that genes
could combine to become stronger. Everyone in the world has genes, and every gene has a
purpose. In chapter seven Dawkin explains his thoughts on how a human or an animal decides
whether it is time to create offspring. Offspring is children and every living organism can produce
offspring. Creating offspring is very important because it makes the species pool bigger and adds
more variation in the world. Dawkins says on page 122, animals optimize their birth rates rather

Transvestitism Essay
Transvestitism
In the last few decades, there has been a rapid change in social attitude towards so called sexual
problems. There has been a call for the freedom to live in the style of which one chooses, so long
as no one else is harmed in the process. One area that appears little understood, however, is
transvestitism, or cross dressing. In order to gain some knowledge about this phenomenon, there are
many aspects of transvestitism that should be examined, some being: history, societal views, the
gay versus straight issue, and women dressing as men.
Transvestitism has a long history, ranging from mythical figures to medieval saints who cross
dressed; from the many instances of berdache in anthropological literature to historical ... Show

Why, then are most cross dressers secretive about their affection for this? According to Dr. Peggy
Rudd (1995), most are secretive, because they have many fears related to the consequences of
having their big secret discovered. In general, non participants do not consider transvestitism,
socially acceptable. Many cross dressers fear the detrimental effects upon other family members,
and many are concerned about the possibility of losing their job as a result of coming out.
Some cross dressers feel guilty because society has placed them into stereotypes, including the
incorrect assumption that all cross dressers are gay, or that all transvestites are potential
transsexuals. To the contrary, while some are gay, most cross dressers want to share their life with
a woman, and the number of gay males is far less among crossdressers than among the general
population (Rudd, 1995). Most identify primarily as a male who has, and retains, male gender
identity. Often they are married, and the father of children. (Prince, 1971) This in itself presents
the question of whether or not to tell spouses, and/or, their children about this. Many do not, out
of fear of being seen as deviant, and perhaps losing those most dear to them. It is a natural thing
for cross dressers to want to share all of themselves with those they love, but as there is risk of
rejection, many choose to wait until they feel comfortable that the risk has lessened, or keep it a
secret forever.

American Cultural And Social Tensions Reflected In Film

My Trip On The California Health Care Facility Essay
For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I
selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting.
My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before
the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safetyprecautions
implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first
thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments
for physical therapyoccupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x rays and medical needs. John
told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there
suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along
the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other
members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for
inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for
the art projects. After touring the medical facilities, we walked a long way to the prison area,
dorm area and workspace where the recreation therapist ran groups. John showed us their offices
that over looked the play yard for some prisoners. This can be good for therapist to observe
behaviors and actions of the inmatesoutside

Give Credit or Be Punished at the University Essay
There have been several occasions universities expelling students for plagiarism or heard it on
the news media about individuals in court over stolen ideas or intellectual property; sister to

students to write an essay without treading on plagiarism s rules. How can a student write an
essay in his own words without worrying about being accused of plagiarism? I will discuss the
what , why , when about plagiarism. Just as there are rules for society, there are rules for writers.

Of course the individuals would have to show authorship and originality. If the facts used in the
individuals ideas are common knowledge, facts available in a wide variety of sources or facts
from your own research then no plagiaristic violation was committed. Rules are created when
there is a need. How plagiarism did became a rule for writers? When the Roman poet Martial
accused a rival, Fidentinus, of stealing his verses, he called him a kidnapper in Latin, plagiarius.
The term stuck (Lynch). Over several years individuals have been known to steal words or ideas
from other people. At one time it was considered appropriate to do that. It was acceptable to
build on another s work such as an apprentice to a master craftsman. To mimic work from another
was expected. Anyone that would deviate from a master s work would be considered
presumptuous enough to invent their own plots (Lynch). Among some of the famous people that
stole ideas from others were William Shakespeare and Benjamin Franklin to just name a few. So
if it was expected, why now is it considered a social crime? Early 18th century, things started to
change. The new norm was originality Copying from others started to be frowned upon. There
were great expectations for new work and imitation or old ideas were out. With that said, Good
authors are original, bad authors copy, and copying is no better than sordid Theft. (Lynch). This was
the beginning of the writers

Bluegrass Influence On American Culture
In 1970, a New Zealand bluegrass band based out of the University of Auckland recorded a
bluegrass cover of James Taylor s Carolina in My Mind. As the unofficial state anthem of North
Carolina and more broadly associated with the American South, it is seen as one of many songs
that have established the South s sense of place. The song, which has a strong sense of geographic
place was used by the New Zealand group, the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band to connect to a
rural American bluegrass tradition by associating music with place. As consumers of American
culture, bluegrass artists in New Zealand adopted bluegrass and its associated traditions in an
attempt to match the authentic Southern ness of artists such as Bill Monroe and Flatt and Scruggs.
Arriving with the folk revival in the 1960s, bluegrass became a tool to preserve a rural past that
was being challenged by urban growth.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Despite this urban growth, the central place of the countryside in New Zealand s national identity
continued. How was bluegrass used to assert rural identity in an increasingly urban nation? Music
and entertainment based on country life were very popular in the mid twentieth century. The
Hamilton County Bluegrass Band was featured on the weekly music television show The Country
Touch, where audience members sat on hay bales on a barn set, square dancers performed and
songs were sung about the good old days. Bluegrass in New Zealand is a unique example of musical
transnationalism. Through the process of cultural consumption, bluegrass artists asserted New
Zealand s rural identity by adopting a distinctly Southern bluegrass

  • 2. Nutrient Pollution In Chesapeake Bay If you live on the Eastern coast, you probably have heard of the Chesapeake Bay. The Bay is located on the eastern coast of Maryland and is almost 200 miles long and ranges from 4 to 30 miles wide. Holding almost 18 trillion gallons of water, the bay is home to more than 3,600 different species of plants and animals. It is well known for its blue crab and huge fish. Since the Chesapeake Bay is connected to the Atlantic Ocean and many small rivers, which drain into the bay, the water in the Chesapeake is a mixture of saltwater and freshwater. This mixture allows a large variety of aquatic animals to live in harmony. The Chesapeake may be in trouble though, due to nutrition pollution. (ChesapeakeBay.net) Nutrient pollution is the process where too many nutrients, mainly nitrogen and phosphorus, are added to bodies of water and can act like fertilizer, causing excessive growth of algae. (Oceanservice.noaa.gov) Also referred to as eutrophication, this increase in algae growth can be a major problem because it eventually leads to dead zones in the Bay. Dead zones, also known as hypoxia, are extremely harmful to the Chesapeake s overall health. Hypoxia is a reduction in oxygen present in the water. (Wikipedia) If oxygen levels get low enough it can cause marine life to either die or leave the area. Excessive amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water causes algae to grow faster than ecosystems can handle. Significant increases in algae harm water quality, food resources, ... (1996a, b) reported that waterlogging at any time have an adverse effect on the seed yield. Drought conditions severely affect the viability of different species and strains of rhizobia (Joshi et al., 1981; Osa Afiana and Alexander, 1982). Singh et al. (1992) reported that at a available soil moisture of 45 per cent nodule number and dry weight of nodules increased while at 30 per cent available soil moisture, seed yield increased. Strains isolated from arid areas are more tolerant to dessication and high temperature than strains isolated from cooler and wet region. Phosphorus limitation was exacerbated by low pH and the combination of pH and phosphorus levels could have strong influence on competition for nodulation. Iron plays an important role in micro organisms and plants. This is a component of cell and its deficiency can cause growth inhibition, sporulation, decrease in RNA and DNA synthesis and, can also change the cell morphology. Iron exists in two states (Fe2+ and Fe3+) and therefore, it is suitable as an electron transporter. Iron is also known to regulate the bio synthesis of porphyrins, toxins, vitamins, antibiotics, cytochromes, pigments, siderophores and aromatic compounds. Iron is present as a cofactor or required by different enzymes and proteins such as peroxidase, superoxide dismutase, nitrogenase, hydrogenase, glutamate synthase, rhibonuclotide diphosphate reductase, aconitase, DAHP, synthatase, cytochromes, ferridoxin and flavoproteins. Iron storage protein like ferritin in animals and bacterio ferritin in micro organisms have also been discovered (Stiefel and Watt, 1979). Although iron is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Chimpanzees, Humans, And Humans Primates, especially Chimpanzee s, are one of the closest relatives to Homo sapiens on planet Earth today. With the development of zoos in modern society, the observation of these animals has become a relatively easy task and have allowed for humans to observe their actions and behaviors in close proximity and in an in depth manner. I have been to numerous zoos throughout my lifetime and have viewed all sorts of different primates and in particular chimpanzees. Chimpanzees are highly interesting as they are closely related to humans and many of their behaviors are similar to that of humans yet, they are taken out of their natural environments and put in these so called zoo s. Over my time viewing these animals from previous trips to the zoo, it seems that every time I went to the Chimpanzee exhibit there was less excitement than anticipated and the Chimp s seemed to very relaxed and essentially just sat or laid around for hours upon hours. After taking this into consideration, I wanted to test the reasons for this relaxed state and answer the question of why the Chimpanzee s seem so relaxed and somewhat docile when in captivity? Why are they so relaxed around the hundreds of zoo goers that go in and out of the zoo every day? Do they not view them as a threat? These questions helped me form my hypothesis of if a chimpanzee is in captivity it will have a more relaxed nature than it being in its own natural habitat due to having no predators and scheduled feeding times. ... • 5. Analysis Of Henrik Ibsen s A Doll House The production of any theatrical performance is an assembly of creativity, interpretation, and collaboration. Typically, the task of imagining and guiding the integration of all these elements belongs to the director. One of the toughest tasks of a director is to reinvigorate a socially important and renowned production while maintaining its original message and composition. Henrik Ibsens A Doll House is a socially important realistic play that portrays the gender dynamics that plagued the nineteenth century and questions the expectations held for women in a household and society. The play is still incredibly influential because the issues it addresses are still prevalent decades later. The original play is so accredited and well known that directors face a tough challenge of trying to reconstruct it in a memorable way. One director, Lee Breuer, attempted to do so in his Mabou Mines DollHouse production. In agreement with Elinor Fuchs review, through creative directorial decisions on setting, casting, and music, Breuer uniquely reignited the fire in Ibsen s play without drifting from the original message. Before discussing the specific stylistic decisions Breuer took to reconstruct and modernize Ibsen s play, it is important to obtain a clear definition of reconstruction in theater, which is different from other forms of reconstruction. Generally, reconstruction is the rebuilding of something that has been broken. However, it would not be fair to say that Ibsen s A Doll ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Frankenstein Vensor Frankenstein And The Modern Prometheus... Titan or Theif In Greek Mythology, there is a tale where a Titan named Prometheus stole fire from the gods and put it in the clay to make man. Like in the Greek Mythology, Mary Shelley has Victor Frankenstein steal life from nature. As Mary Shelley states in the title of her book Frankenstein, or the Modern Prometheus, she parallels Victor Frankensteinto the Titan Prometheus. As Mary Shelley states in Frankenstein the pursuit of unknown knowledge is dangerous. So much has been done... I will pioneer a new way, explain unknown powers, and unfold to the world the deepest mysteries of creation( Chapter 3). . This quote means that Victor wants to explore dangerous areas that should not be explored. Dangerous and unknown knowledge... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For Victor Frankenstein, his punishment was similar to Prometheus s. For Victor Frankenstein, his punishment was similar to Prometheus s. He too suffered daily as a reminder of what he did. Victor Frankenstein s punishment is also similar to Prometheus because he too has something ripped away from him. Prometheus had his liver ripped away and Victor Frankenstein had his love ones taken away from him. Both Prometheus and Victor Frankenstein suffer by playing God, . Prometheus crafts man while Victor crafts the daemon. In Paradise Lost by John Milton, Satan and his legion of followers were cast out of Heaven and put into Hell. Satan was cast out because he challenged the authority of God. Like Victor Frankenstein and Prometheus the Titan, Satan did something that caused him to lose his title. Victor Frankenstein was a smart young man that had a lot of promise and potential. He lost all of it because he tampered with nature s authority. Prometheus was a powerful Titan that stole the right to make life from Zeus; he too stole the power from a higher authority. All three characters, Satan, Prometheus, and Victor, ended up in their own personal Hell. For Satan, he was thrown out of Heaven and was chained to the burning lake in Hell. Prometheus s ... • 7. Corporal Punishment And Its Usage Introduction The topic of whether or not parents and teachers should use corporal punishment in the name of discipline had caught my eye for several reasons. One of the most important reasons is that I was beaten by a wooden paddle while I was growing up. I was about 12 years of age when my teacher beats all of my classmates including me just because one of us was misbehaving. That was in Baghdad, Iraq, where teachers and parents are allowed to use corporal punishment freely without any fear. Another reason is that I was born in a Catholic well educated family that showed me what love and respect actually is. Hence, my parents didn t accept what that teacher did and went to tell on her. They thought that a teacher should never do any kind of physical harm to their children, even if they used to do so. Therefore, I chose this topic to read more about corporal punishment and its usage in the United States. The key terms that are important in this paper are defined to give a full understanding of the issue. The term corporal punishment is defined as the act of disciplining a child through physical means ( Corporal Punishment , 2006, p.1). However, there is a legal definition that most states use, which says, Parents are allowed to use reasonable force in physically disciplining their children ( Corporal Punishment , 2006, p.3). Later on, I will also talk about the effective ways of disciplining a child that is nonphysical methods. One of them is timeouts which is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Descartes Proof That The Mind And The Body Descartes proof that the Mind and the Body are distinct substances is as follows, First Descartes asserts that everything that can be clearly and distinctly understood is within the ability to be created by God as to correspond identically with the way that Descartes understand things in the world. It follows from this assertion that because Descartes is able to clearly and distinctly understand one thing apart from one another is enough to make them noticeably different in substance. Descartes follows this with the notion of the mind, saying that because one is able to possess a clear and distinct understanding of their self as a distinct and separate substance, which is not extended into the environment and handles all of the logical thinking. He continues to say that he possesses a clear and distinct understanding of the body as an extended and unthinking. He finishes with the conclusion that this demonstrates that the body and the mind are actually distinct form one another. By saying that they are distinct substances, in Descartes overall argument, means that the mind and the body are composed primarily of two separate and unique substances and that they are unable to share properties such as that the body is the corporeal substance that experiences the sensations of the world, or in other words the body s substance is that of feeling. The mind is an ethereal substance that is responsible for reason and rationality. They are distinct in that their existence is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Katherine The Shrew In Act 5, Scene 2, lines 152 196, of The Taming of the Shrew, Katherine portrays her transformation from an undesirable shrew to an obedient wife as she depicts to Bianca and Widow the respect and loyalty that a woman s lord, life, [and] keeper deserves (162). After being encouraged by Petruchio, whom had recently placed a bet with Lucentio and Hortensio on whose wifewould be the most obedient, to lecture the two women on their wifely responsibilities, she remarked on the harsh burdens of a man compared to the composed lifestyle of a woman. While Lucentio and Hortensio were lead to believe that Petruchio finally tamed Katherine into a devoted and subservient wife, the reality was that her words were full of hidden sarcasm; the shrew was... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supporting the viewpoint that Katherine has maintained her combative personality throughout the play, the word fie could be interpreted as an exclamation expressing...disgust or indignant reproach, (OED 3). Using this definition, the reader can visualize Katherine scolding the women on their behavior as if they were naughty children, and feeling better about herself for doing so. On the contrary, using fie in a sentence could indicate trust (OED 1). The audience could see Katherine portraying the lines of Fie, fie!...To wound thy lord, thy king, thy governor. / It blots thy beauty as frosts do bite the meads, as Trust me, ladies. This is how you should really treat your husband, in order to earn the affection she desired from Petruchio (152, 154 155). What I need to hear from you is that you recognize how painful it is. I need to hear from you that you are with me in my desperation (34). The wisest of words don t even make the pain go away, and all that can be done is lending an ear to listen, a shoulder to lean on. When there is nothing one can do to make things better again, to bring someone back, to be happy again, all your left is emptiness. • 11. Childhood Is Common For All Children Childhood is common to all children, however it is fragmented and constructed by the diversity of children s lives (James James, 2004). Childhood is both a historically and culturally constructed process, as before the Middle Ages the concept of childhood did not exist, children had no distinctive social status compared with adults (James James, 2004). Moreover, in a contemporary society children are active participants in their own social worlds, childhood has become a very cultural process, how adults see children and the way they behave towards them shapes children s lived experiences (James James, 2004). In society adults have unwritten, invisible control over children and regulate their lives to a certain extent. Space therefore places an important role on how adults obtain their regulation over children, and to what extent children can resist their control. For example, within cyberspace children are much more resistant to control as adults cannot control what is online. As result as this children are almost free agents to learn and explore, and it also gives children with physical disabilities the chance to be a normal child online. Nevertheless, control over children has increased hugely over the years as today the natural innocence of children is being questioned and children are becoming subject to tighter regimes of surveillance and new forms of ordering (James James, 2004). Moreover this results in the regulation and control of children s cultures ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Explain How the Social and Economic Changes Affected Gaucho Life Due to the huge migration to Latin America, foreigners introduced the gauchos to many changes that would have a lasting effect. Two of the main changes felt by the gauchos included social and economic restructuring. One must understand that history about the gauchos can potentially be biased. This is due to the fact that only news that is interesting is reported and only bad news is interesting. This clash of recorded history and actual history causes us to question what actually occurred during this time period. Gauchos social lives covered many interesting areas. These traditional acts decreased because of the new laws. Previously, gauchos would roam the pampa, continuously moving onward to unknown destinations. This freedom became restricted with the invention of the fence. The fence also impacted other areas of the gauchos lives including economically. The fence forced the change from a ranching to farming. The need for ranchers decreased, which put gauchos out of work. These fences also kept animals contained to specific pastures. Before this gauchos would kill roaming horses for fun, cattle for food and skins, and ostrich for feathers. These fences set territories that kept the gaucho from wandering freely. Another change that kept the gaucho from wandering freely involved vagrancy laws. The government targeted to the gaucho and aimed to get rid of them, or at least tame them. Gauchos now had to carry something similar to a travel permit. This again restricted their unique lifestyle. Because the government viewed the gauchos as good fighters, they enlisted many to serve in the military. This impacted their lives socially and economically. Gauchos social lives slowed down enormously because of the military. They had to work continuously. Economically they benefited because they no longer had to look for ways to support their basic needs. The government took care of making them sustain life. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 13. Flood Case Study Other Factors Contributing to the Flood The Arun and Sunkosi sub catchments of the upper catchment area contribute to the intensity of floods, with the former possessing highest surface runoff potential (Wakode et al., 2013). As the Kosi River exits at the base of the mountain, the ability to transport sediment is dampened, leading to deposition of sediment and aggradation (Kale, 2008). High silt content in the river was due to soil erosion and landslides and the presence of narrow gorges (Wakode et al., 2013). He uses the nymph as the speaker, responding to the shepherd. There are no clues to the setting or the nymph s physical appearance. The themes of this poem are doubt and the point that time changes things. The nymph thinks realistically and refutes the ideas of the idyllic world the shepherd had proposed to her. The shepherd seems to be very much of an optimist, whereas the nymph is very pessimistic. The structure of these two poems is exact. There are six stanzas consisting of four lines each. This shows that The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd is responding directly to the shepherd in The Passionate Shepherd to His Love. Locke discusses the theory that individual identity is formed through consciousness and experience, and not upon the soul and body; this may show us wherein personal identity consists: not in the identity of substance, but, as I have said, in the identity of consciousness. (Locke). As Tristram believes the other misfortunate experiences within his childhood amount to his individual identity, this also suggests an origin of identity developed from his personal experiences. He believes that experiencing the many misfortunes such as his accidental naming and castration, disturbance as a homunculus and broken nose reshape his identity and that he is in a sense doomed to live a misfortunate life. A great number of the states made as a condition for their ratification, the addition of amendments, which would guarantee citizens protection of their rights against the central government. The Israeli Palestinian Conflict And The Jewish Movement Starting in the late 19th century, the Israeli Palestinian conflict has been a long standing clash between the Israeli Jews and Palestinian Arabs due to several significant events. The Israeli palestinian conflict is one that goes way back to the time of the Old Testament. The land known as Israel, was given to the jewish people by God through Abraham. God Promised to give Abraham s descendants the land eternally. Throughout the thousand of years, thousands of Arabs have moved to those lands which they called Palestine. When it comes to whom should own the land, both sides have credible arguments. The Jews say that it is written in the Bible while the Palestinian Arabs say that they have ruled the land for thousand of years. The Palestinian Arabs are also the majority of the population in that region. In the late 19th century, Theodor Herzl founded a group of Jews called the Zionists. According the the Encyclopedia Britannica, Zionism is the Jewish nationalist movement that has had as its goal the creation and support of a Jewish national state in Palestine, the ancient homeland of the Jews. The Zionist immediately began to relocate european Jews to four main cities in Palestine. These cities were Jerusalem, Hebron, Safed and Tiberias. Because of words such as Pyrex and acetic acid, he could not figure out the subject of the text. Retrospectively, the difficulty of the words did affect his ability to use background knowledge, which is something that I learned after giving him this experiment. Nonetheless, in the end, he was not able to correctly tell me what the paragraph was about, and he guessed that it was about making frozen yogurt. The other paragraph that he got wrong was one that talked about coding a program. Richard never coded a program in his life, so he did not understand what the paragraph was describing. He confused the word language as the method of human communication rather than a programming language, so as a result, he thought the paragraph was about learning a new language. Lastly, the one paragraph he got correct in the hard part of test 1 was the paragraph about brain surgery. Even though this topic is something Richard personally does not have experience, it is something that he has seen in cartoons or videos. Therefore, as he read this paragraph, he used terms such as incision in the scalp and aneurysm to conclude that it was indeed about brain surgery. Evidently this has not worked. The course pack talks about the differences of ideologies being because of different languages, assumptions, and cultural views. In order to narrow the gap we need to understand these differences on both sides to a greater extent. Beliefs and culture were vastly different between Canada and the Aboriginals which lead to certain actions made by the government. For example the First Nations believe in elders educating their children through stories and the children learning through experiences. Canadians did not recognize this form of teaching and so assumed they did not have any education in place. The same thing happened with religion and law and the Canadians thought they would be helping the First Nations but in reality all they caused was confusion and a divide between two cultures as a result of their ignorance to understand any view other than their own. In the 1930 s, Stalin had cleansed the Soviet military of all those whom he saw as a threat to his power which left the Red Army with few experienced leaders. In his essay entitled The Artist as Producer (1999 [1934]) Benjamin argued that progressive cultural creators should refunction the apparatus of cultural production, turning theatre and film, for instance, into a forum of political enlightenment of progressive social change. Benjamin recognised that media could have conservative effects and films could create a new kind of ideological magic through the cult of celebrity and techniques like the close up that fetishized certain star or images via the technology of cinema. To the contrary, while some are gay, most cross dressers want to share their life with a woman, and the number of gay males is far less among crossdressers than among the general population (Rudd, 1995). Most identify primarily as a male who has, and retains, male gender identity. Often they are married, and the father of children. (Prince, 1971) This in itself presents the question of whether or not to tell spouses, and/or, their children about this. Many do not, out of fear of being seen as deviant, and perhaps losing those most dear to them. It is a natural thing for cross dressers to want to share all of themselves with those they love, but as there is risk of rejection, many choose to wait until they feel comfortable that the risk has lessened, or keep it a secret forever. Over several years individuals have been known to steal words or ideas from other people. At one time it was considered appropriate to do that. It was acceptable to build on another s work such as an apprentice to a master craftsman. To mimic work from another was expected. Anyone that would deviate from a master s work would be considered presumptuous enough to invent their own plots (Lynch). Among some of the famous people that stole ideas from others were William Shakespeare and Benjamin Franklin to just name a few. So if it was expected, why now is it considered a social crime? • 56. Bluegrass Influence On American Culture In 1970, a New Zealand bluegrass band based out of the University of Auckland recorded a bluegrass cover of James Taylor s Carolina in My Mind. As the unofficial state anthem of North Carolina and more broadly associated with the American South, it is seen as one of many songs that have established the South s sense of place.
