Out of the three hard paragraphs I gave him, he only understood one of them. For example,
Richard read a paragraph that was about making sodium acetate (hot ice). Reading through this
paragraph, he was very confused on what the paragraph meant because he had no prior
background knowledge of chemistry. Because of words such as Pyrex and acetic acid, he could
not figure out the subject of the text. Retrospectively, the difficulty of the words did affect his
ability to use background knowledge, which is something that I learned after giving him this
experiment. Nonetheless, in the end, he was not able to correctly tell me what the paragraph was
about, and he guessed that it was about making frozen yogurt. The other paragraph that he got
wrong was one that talked about coding a program. Richard never coded a program in his life, so
he did not understand what the paragraph was describing. He confused the word language as the
method of human communication rather than a programming language, so as a result, he thought
the paragraph was about learning a new language. Lastly, the one paragraph he got correct in the
hard part of test 1 was the paragraph about brain surgery. Even though this topic is something
Richard personally does not have experience, it is something that he has seen in cartoons or
videos. Therefore, as he read this paragraph, he used terms such as incision in the scalp and
aneurysm to conclude that it was indeed about brain surgery. From the results of test 1 and test 2, I

The Course Pack provided for the Native American Philosophy contained nine articles combined to
demonstrate the huge philosophical gap of ideologies between Canada and the Aboriginal people.
A couple articles comment how Canada in the past has attempted to discriminate, assimilate and
destroy the aboriginal people and when that did not work, their cultures and assimilate them into
European Canada ways. Evidently this has not worked. The course pack talks about the differences
of ideologies being because of different languages, assumptions, and cultural views. In order to
narrow the gap we need to understand these differences on both sides to a greater extent.
Beliefs and culture were vastly different between Canada and the Aboriginals which lead to certain
actions made by the government. For example the First Nations believe in elders educating their
children through stories and the children learning through experiences. Canadians did not recognize
this form of teaching and so assumed they did not have any education in place. The same thing
happened with religion and law and the Canadians thought they would be helping the First Nations
but in reality all they caused was confusion and a divide between two cultures as a result of their

In the study by Thornton, McKissick, Spooner, Lo, Anderson (2015), two high school students
with a specific learning disability (SLD) were used. The first participant was Wesley, who was 15
years old and had delays in processing information with his short term memory, along with having
difficulties with his organization skills. Wesley was placed on an individual educationplan (IEP)
under the category of SLD in reading comprehension. The second participant was Amber, who was

My Trip On The California Health Care Facility Essay
For my discovery event, I went on a tour of The California Health Care Facility in Stockton. I
selected this event because I was very curious to know what it was like to work in a prison setting.
My desire for future work settings has been between a nursing facility and prison facility. Before
the visit I expected to know how a group was done in lower level prison and the safetyprecautions
implemented. The facility tour was lead by CTRS John Widenmann and Gaganjot Singh. The first
thing we toured was there medical mall building where all the prisons went to thee appointments
for physical therapyoccupational therapy, dentist, diagnostics, x rays and medical needs. John
told us that some inmates walk with out a guard because they have a card to specify where there
suppose to be. If they refuse to go to there appointment than force is used too make them. Along
the tour he mentioned that the rec therapists sees the inmate five time more in a week than other
members of a treatment team. We were able to visit a facilitation room, which had a class for
inmates to do artwork. One of the CTRS on staff mentioned that it is hard to have supplies for
the art projects. After touring the medical facilities, we walked a long way to the prison area,
dorm area and workspace where the recreation therapist ran groups. John showed us their offices
