Understanding Multiple Myeloma
Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell dyscrasia characterized by the proliferation of malignant
cells in the bone marrow (Porth, 2009). Also known as plasma cell myeloma, myelomatosis,
medullary plasmacytosis or Kahler s disease, MM results from the development of a monoclonal
immunoglobulin (referred to as an M protein), a monoclonal immunoglobulin light chain, or both
(Ferreira, 2013). Patients with MM can present with a wide range of signs and symptoms including
bone fractures, anemia and kidney damage or no symptoms at all (Lobban Perkins, 2013). This creates
a diagnostic challenge to clinicians as many of these conditions are of benign etiology (Lobban
Perkins, 2013). The individual variations among patients with ... Show more content on

Patients with increased age, male gender, African American descent, familial incidence of MM or a
history of other plasma cell disorders are all at higher risk of a developing MM (Lobban Perkins,
2013). Radiation and exposure to agricultural chemicals like Agent Orange have been linked to MM
(Kelly et al, 2010). Other risk factors include chronic immune stimulation, autoimmune disorders, and
certain viruses including HIV infection (Porth, 2009). To understand the pathophysiology of MM, it is
essential to understand the concept of B cell maturation into plasma cells that release proteins called
immunoglobulins (Kelly et al, 2010). Lymphoid stem cells in the bone marrow develop into either T
or B lymphocytes (Kelly et al, 2010). The B lymphocyte is responsible for humoral immunity and can
be identified by the presence of a membrane immunoglobulin (Sommer, 2009). There are five classes
of immunoglobulins: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, and IgE (Sommer, 2009). Each immunoglobulin has two
identical light (L) chains and two identical heavy (H) chains to form a Y shaped molecule (Sommer,
2009, p. 365). The light chains are termed kappa or lambda and the heavy chains define the five
classes of immunoglobulins (Kelly et al, 2010). Myeloma occurs when there is an overproduction of
one of these immunoglobulins (Kelly et al, 2010). The immunoglobulin that

the mysteries of faith and certain designated descendants, in turn, inherited this function. Also

A Good Night s Sleep
Sawyer began to stir from a good night s sleep, which is rare due to her stress accumulated from her
job. She instinctively reached to other side of the bed expecting to feel the warmth of human flesh.
Opening her eyes only to confirm the vacant spot she sighed. She flipped to the other side to look at
the alarm clock the resided on her nightstand, 7:52 it read, contemplating rather to try to go back to
sleep or to get up. Choosing the latter, she sat up rolling her neck, stretching her stiff limbs and began
to make her way to the bathroom. Her eyes meet the mirror, studying her reflection. She had an oval

Mediterranean Diet Outline
Nutrition in the News: Outline Thesis: Going on a Mediterranean diet reduces the risks of developing
cardiovascular (heart) diseases. Background: A Mediterranean diet consists of high consumptions of
whole grain, olive oil, fruits, vegetables, and nuts with moderate intakes of chicken and fish. 2 The
lifestyle of someone on a Mediterranean diet includes being physically active every day and eating
meals with family and friends. 3 Cardiovascular diseases include heart attacks and strokes.1 People,
especially diabetics, who follow the Mediterranean diet are less likely to suffer from sudden heart
attacks and strokes. 3 Plant based foods (fruits and vegetables) are linked with lower blood pressure

Boys Behavior In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper
The behavior of the boys prior to the storm coming was calm as the boys were on the beach, and Jack
was feeding both Ralph and Piggy and there was only a thunderous brass. (pg. 149) However, Jack
begins an argument with Ralph and says that the conch doesn t count at this end of the island. Shortly
after Jack says this, all at once, the thunder stuck. Instead of the dull boom, there was a point of
impact in the explosion. (pg. 150) The description of the storm quickly changed as it is now being
described as more intense as before, since the word explosion is used to describe the thunder instead
of dull boom. Since the description of the storm began to escalate directly after Jack began to
challenge Ralph and the rule of the conch therefore becoming chaotic, and defying order the
correlation of the intensity of the storm and the boys behavior is made clear. Then, the storm begins to
bring thunder [that was] only just bearable and [a] flickering bright light [that] became brighter (pg.

Notes On The Slave Trade
Atlantic Slave Trade What is the slave trade? Well, I believe that the slave trade is when white people
of the Americas would take black people, and put them on ships, and then bring them over the Atlantic
ocean to the Americas to become slaves. This must have affected a lot of people during the Atlantic
Slave Trade. Well, it did. Most of the slaves received being branded on their shoulder, breast or
buttock. and many experienced getting their names changed so that is was almost impossible for their
family to trace them. I m always wondering, why did the slave trade last so long, and what values
were found during the slave trade. Well, I believe the slave trade lasted so long, because numerous
people died of diseases, which caused a heavy demand for more slaves every year. With the historical
book, Roots, a primary sources, Olaudah Equiano, and a secondary source The Cruelest Commerce I
will give evidence to back up my answers to the three questions, what is the slave trade? How where
humans affected by the slave trade, and why did the slave trade last so long and what values were
found in the slave trade? The slave trade was when captured slaves, or people taken captive in wars,
would be put on ships to be taken over the Atlantic Ocean to the New World or as we know today as
the Americas. Also, Brazil, which is a colony of Portugal, received the largest amount of African
slaves, so that is why their culture has various traits of African culture today. According to

Connotation Of Richard Cory
Richard Cory is a narrative poem written by Edwin Arlington Robinson. The poem was first published
in 1897,and has been completed in July of that year as a part of The Children of the Night. In the 1893
is when the economic depression occurred which recall Robinson s most popular poems. At that time,
people could not afford meat and had a diet mainly of bread, often day old bread selling for less than
freshly baked goods. This hard times experience made the townspeople even more aware of Richard s
difference from them, so much so that they treated him as royalty. The Poem describes a person who is
wealthy, well educated, mannerly, and admired by the people in his town. Robinson uses connotation
for Richard Cory high on a pedestal above the townspeople. The townspeople are a lower class than
Richard Cory. This suggests that Richard Cory is coming down, or lowering himself, to the level of
the townspeople when he comes into town. He also does not treat the towns people with no respect he
actually wants to make them feel comfortable with them. Robinson positions the characters to show
the differences in their financial status. He also shows that it is the townspeople, and not Cory, that
seem to define these positions. Cory is perceived as distant royalty, he is perceived as a gentlemen,an
aristocraft above those who worked, are not able to communicate with other people. This is an example
of of showing that Richard Cory isn t as happy as we all think he is, as he seems like the perfect
gentlemen, but he commits suicide one one calm Night.
Although it is written by an American poet and set in an American town, connotation is used to
suggest a noble, royal image of Richard Cory. His name, Richard, is the name of many kings. Also,
Richard contains the word rich, which suggests his wealth. There are many other royal connotations
and images in this poem including: sole to crown, imperially slim, and schooled in every grace.
Crown, imperially and grace all suggest royalty. Robinson uses denotation, or the use of words for the
exact meaning to emphasize this image of Richard Cory being local royalty. Richard Cory was a rich,
well educated man. Robinson writes, And he was rich... and admirably schooled... to make

Effective Use Of Employee Voice And An Increase Of...
EFFECTIVE USE OF MANAGERS ENCOURAGEMET OF EMPLOYEE VOICE CAN LEAD TO
A LIFT IN WELL BEING AND PRODUCTIVITY. Managers encouragement of employee voice can
result in an overall increase of productivity and well being. First of all, a fundamental term which
must be understood is the definition of Employee voice (EV) . Wilkinson and Fay (2011) summarise
voice as how much say an employee has in regard to decision making in the workplace. Furthermore,
in this essay a range of arguments will be developed in order to determine whether or not managers
encouragement of EV can lead to an increase of productivity and well being. In particular, this essay
will focus mostly on how managers utilise EV and how it contributes to overall well being ... Show

In circumstances where employees feel as if they cannot express opinions, criticism and suggestions,
it is commonly due to the expected outcome with the manager (Detert Burris, 2007). Furthermore, if
there were to be an issue within the organisation which effected the employee, the employee has one
of two options; leave the workplace or express their opinions (Detert Burris, 2007, p.872). As a result,
if EV is not encouraged by a manager it can lead to employees feeling discouraged to express their
opinions, overall reducing wellbeing and psychological security within that organisation (Detert
Burris, 2007). Detert and Burris (2007) suggests that employees, lack the courage to... challenge
mangers who have signalled unwillingness to accept input (Detert Burris, 2007, p.872). Furthermore,
it can be concluded that due to unwelcoming use of EV, employee s well being (confidence within the
workplace) is drastically reduced. Walumbwa and Schaubroeck (2009) explains that when mangers
openly accept and encourage employees to speak their mind, psychological safety and wellbeing
increase, allowing employees to express their ideas, concerns and conflicts. More so, while the

The Challenges Of Underachievement In Gifted Students
Underachievement in gifted education can be attributed to a number of challenges that gifted students
face. Gifted students are capable of achieving, but factors such as learning disabilities and poor self
efficacy, prevent them from performing adequately. There are interventions that teachers and parents
can work together to implement to help work against these factors of underachievement. According to
the article, Underachieving gifted students: Two case studies , gifted students need specific
interventions to help them be successful in the gifted classroom. Through the implementation of a
Creative Writing Program, it was found that positive reinforcement, one to one teacher support, and
differentiation are interventions that help to alleviate gifted underachievement (Bennett Rappell
Northcote, 2016). I personally loved this article because it spoke from the honest application of
specific interventions within a realistic classroom situation. The specificity of interventions and honest
reports of success when implemented were extremely helpful in determining effective instructional
decisions when working with this niche student group. As a new teacher, it is intimidating to see a
pattern happening amongst your students and not know the best practices that I should implement to
help alleviate the pattern. In addition, the article Exploring Teachers Experiences of Working with
Gifted Students Who Underachieve , explored a different side of underachievement in gifted

Russia 1856-1860
From 1856 to 1964 Russia transformed from a backward, agriculturally based country, governed by an
autocratic ruler and divided by the feudal system to a global superpower that had nuclear capabilities.
These profound changes are attributed to many factors, however through closer examination it can be
determined the extent to whether individuals, events such as wars or other circumstances, for example,
the geography of Russia played the most significant role in Russia s social, political and economic
modernisation from 1856 1964.
Individuals played a role in the social modernisation of Russia, in particular, Alexander II and
Khrushchev. According to Hosking, Alexander II s emancipation of 23 million serfs , went a long way
towards erecting the framework of a civil society . Peasants were no longer owned by landlords, but
rather free to marry and trade, and allowing for growth in the Russian coal production and industrial
output. However, the terms of emancipation didn t go far enough, as the lack of land (peasant farmers

The Fear Of Communism In Arthur Miller s The Crucible
Beware of Artists, They mix with all classes of society and therefore are the most dangerous, reads
one of the numerous forms of propaganda distributed by Senator Joseph McCarthy. The following
quote was a dominant factor to The Crucible itself because the fear of communism personally affected
Arthur Miller. The play represents an analogy to the Red Scare in the 1950 s because the Salem witch
trials had many similarities to America during this time. The Red Scare was a time of mass hysteria
for the nation. It occurred during the Cold War, which was after World War II, when the Soviet Union
and America were undergoing economic and political altercations. Due to some Americans previously
helping the Soviet Union during World War II, it was greatly feared that those very Americans would
commit treason by providing the Soviet Union with information that could harm American society and
the security of the United States (Red Scare). Nevertheless, during the 1990 s, sources revealed that
three hundred or more American communists did give Soviets information during World War II. This
concludes that espionage was a legitimate threat. Furthermore, the question remains, were the actions
to prevent communism taken too far? Joseph McCarthy played a large role in the second Red Scare
because essentially he was responsible for the false accusations of innocent people in order to look
more powerful. Consequently, McCarthy s tactics involved many to be placed on a blacklist, or

Asian history
China was the most powerful maritime force for almost three decades during the 14th century. The
world recognized the Chinese for their fine artisan skills, which included creating stunning porcelains
and silks. They also had great marine navigation skills, vast knowledge in astronomy and advanced
firepower technology. Before the Ming Dynasty, the Yi citizens of China involuntarily stopped
working on the land, hence had to seek for alternatives in the sea for survival. A century before
Columbus plus his allied Europeans started their entry into the Modern World, seven voyages of
massive castoffs commanded by the eunuch Zheng He ventured through the China Seas to East Africa,
throughout Korea and Japan. This occurred between 1405 and 1433, during the reign of Zhu Di. Using
their skills, they conquered the forces around the Indian Ocean, making China the naval ruler. In the
book When China Ruled the Seas, Louise Levathes explores the historic timeline of China s dynamic

The minds of the men turn darker as the novel goes along, further representing the major theme of
crazy throughout Heller s writing. There is an inevitable truth that war and its wages forces man to
succumb to psychotic fears and actions.
Likely as a result of war, Yossarian is presented with an irrational fear that anyone and everyone is out
to kill him. Even from the beginning of the novel, it is stated multiple times that Yossarian presumes
that people are intentionally trying to harm or kill him. From an outside point of view, it may seem
quite ridiculous, but given the circumstances and stress he is put under, it is obvious why he feels this
way. An example of a stressful situation in which Yossarian reacts with his fear is the line, The
crawlway was Yossarian s lifeline to outside from a plane about to fall, but Yossarian swore at it with
seething antagonism, reviled it as an obstacle put there by providence as part of the plot that would
destroy him. (48). Throughout the book, other characters make it known that Yossarian has a complex.

Homosexual Stigma Essay examples
Homophobia is a terrible form of bullying and it is one of the largest issues in secondary schools
today. The perceived opinions and concepts that come out of this type of harassment causes young
adolescents who are part of the LGBTQ community or ones that remains closeted to fall into a stigma
that can be extremely harmful. By falling into this stigma it opens the youth up to whole world of
harassment, ridicule, physical altercations and numerous other acts that can ultimately diminish a

The Debate Of Global Warming
The Debate of Global Warming
Climate change is a hot button topic in politics, conversation, and education. Both sides of the ongoing
debate claim disastrous consequences. On one hand, the view of an economic focus could make the
market worse. On the other, the end of life as we know it. This is a comparison essay between Al Gore
s documentary a vocal advocate for global warming reform and a film made by deniers.
In the film Unstoppable Solar Cycles: Rethinking Global warming. The creators express skepticism
towards the cause of global warming. That s to say, they do think that temperature is rising, their
skepticism is towards CO2 as the cause. Their main message is that weather changes constantly and
ultimately operates in cycles. However, they do admit that this can still cause problems. And they pose
the question about how we can best cope with this natural change. Overall, they worry that a focus on
CO2 might cause more harm than good, and they encourage consideration of other causes other than
an increase in carbon dioxide.
The evidence they present for their claim is provided by looking at temperature and CO2 levels from
the past 600 years. This showing that the Earth has had global warming and cooling cycles before an
increase in man caused CO2. This data showing that temperature increases before CO2, not after. Yet,
they do admit that CO2 does have an effect, albeit a small one. The major cause they give is the sun.
The sun has magnetic field cycles and that when

My Experience At The University Of Iowa
Good Evening Everyone! I am McCall Radavich with USA Today. Although I am currently located in
New York, I was born and raised in Arizona. At a very young age, I found my passion in writing and
photography. I have literally been writing my story for as long as I can remember. When it came time
for college, I chose one of the best journalism schools in the United States, the University of Iowa. I
started small, taking pictures for the school s newspaper, The Daily Iowan. I soon worked my way up
to being an Opinions Writer, then a Metro Reporter, and finally my senior year, an editor. After
graduating with a double major in journalism and geography in 2005, I got a yearlong internship with
National Geographic. You know how you look back on moments of your life and think, that s when it
all changed? Well, that was it for me. That was my moment, the year I found myself. Writing isn t an
easy thing. Actually, I would say writing is the hardest thing a person can do, putting your self on
display for any and all to see. Writing is the truth, and the truth hurts. I had always thought that was
what I did when I wrote, tell the truth, but that wasn t the case. I hadn t learned how to write without
boundaries until that summer, when I had no other option. I hadn t known how to write like everything
was on the line, because I had never had anything to lose. Now, it s the only way I write. It is the only
way I can. When my year was up, I didn t know what to do with

Joh Nash Essay
Introduction:
John Forbes Nash Jr. was born June 13, 1928 he is an American mathematician who works in game
theory and differential geometry. He shared the 1994 Nobel prize in Economics with two other game
theorists, Reinhard Selten and John Harsanyi. He is best known in popular culture as the subject of the
Hollywood movie, A Beautiful Mind, about his mathematical genius and his struggles with mental
illness.
Childhood/Adolence:
On June 13, 1928, John Forbes Nash was born in the small Appalachian town of Bluefield, West
Virginia, the son of John Nash Sr., an electrical engineer, and Virginia Martin, a teacher. At 12, he was
carrying out scientific experiments in his room at home. John at a young age didn t like working with

The Putnam Mathematics Competition was not the only thing going badly for Nash. Although his
mathematics professors heaped praise on him, his fellow students found him a very strange person.
Physically he was strong and this saved him from being bullied, but his fellow students took delight in
making fun of Nash who they saw as an awkward immature person displaying childish tantrums. He
showed homosexual tendencies, climbing into bed with the other boys who reacted by making fun of
the fact that he was attracted to boys and humiliated him. They played cruel pranks on him and he
reacted by asking his fellow students to challenge him with mathematics problems. He ended up doing
the homework of many of the students. When he graduated he had been ofered fellowships to enter as
a graduate at either Harvard or Princeton. But he picked Princton because Princton seemed more
intersested in getting him to go there.
Adulthood:
In September 1948 Nash entered Princeton where he showed an interest in a broad range of pure
mathematics: topology, algebraic geometry, game theory and logic were his major interests but he did
seem to have avoided attending lectures. His major accomplishment during his time at Princeton was
to develop his theory of Nash Equilibrium , which applied to Game Theory. Prior to his theory, it was
thought that in game theory and competition, everyone fought for their own interests. He developed
the idea that for each player in a game, there is an

Cover Contest Reflection
In the summer of 2016, I decided to enter the Luzerne county fair s guide cover contest. I came across
a problem, however; I missed the deadline and would need to wait till next year. I still went to the fair
in September to see my competition in other categories I entered, and to look at who won the cover
contest. When I saw the winning cover, I became discouraged. It was much better than anything I
could draw. I thought I wouldn t have a chance in next year s contest. I continued on in the fair,
wondering at what would happened if I entered next year. In May of 2017, I gained my enthusiasm
back. This time, I became determined to win the cover contest. More importantly, I became
determined to gain confidence in myself. I started working on

Communication Failure
Communication is not an easy process. It involves verbal and non verbal attempts to assist the other
person to understand what we are trying to communicate. Yet it often fails.
The communication occurring between two people as discussed in the statement above is known by
academics as interpersonal communication . Interpersonal communication can be defined as a two
way, transactional process in which two people, occupying a shared space, continue to send
information to each other and receive information from each simultaneously. (DeVito, 2008; Firth,
Berry amp; Irvine, 2010; Hartley, 1999). The above statement refers to the process of interpersonal
communication.

Verbal and non verbal messages expressed by should ideally have congruency, meaning they
complement each other (DeVito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Incongruent verbal and non verbal messages
often lead to confusion in the receiver, hindering successful reception and comprehension of the
information being communicated and therefore resulting in a failure in the communication process
(Devito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Hence, congruent verbal and non verbal messages encoded and
communicated by sender will also aid in reducing the likeliness of communication failure.
It has been suggested that a failure or breakdown in the interpersonal communication process can be
further reduced if both the sender and receiver possess satisfactory levels of what is termed emotional
intelligence (Goleman, 1998; Lynn, 2002). Emotional intelligence may be defined as a person s ability
to recognise, control and evaluate their own feelings and emotions as well as the feelings and
emotions of others (Goleman, 1998). Goleman (1998) states that emotional Intelligence is made up of
five elements, these being: self awareness, self regulation, self motivation, empathy, and the
possession of social skills. Self awareness comprises of: the ability to recognise one s emotions;
awareness of one s strengths, weaknesses and potential; and one s ability to

Subculture And Its Impact On Society
Subculture refers to a minority of individuals who adhere to different rules, dress codes and lifestyle
choices from mainstream culture. Throughout this essay the traditional definitions of subcultures, that
mainly concentrate on class and style as their main features, will be looked at and explained. It will
then be demonstrated how these ways of thinking are no longer relevant to the 21st century therefore
the term subculture needs to be rethought for it to be an applicable category in the 21st century.
The term youth subcultures was first made and studied at the University Of Chicago in America
(Blackman, 2003) . The school was of the sociological discipline and looked at subcultures as deviant
groups, much of the research was conducted on gangs. The theorists were in disagreement with the
picture the mass media had been painting about youth. This picture was of a homogeneous group in
which class was not a factor and all youth adhered to one unified culture (Dvarionaite, 2015). Early
American theorist of the Chicago school believed class was a leading factor as to why there was social
disorganisation. Albert K. Cohen went on further to explain how class created divisions in society.
Cohen described subcultures as emerging when, a number of actors with similar problems of social
adjustment interact with one another and innovate new frames of reference. (Gelder and Thornton, pp
13, 1997). Cohen proved this through he s work with young male delinquent

Subject: Proposal for Legalizing Industrial hemp cultivation
The U.S. government, in all its wisdom, treats hemp and marijuana in the same manner. Despite one
offering no psychoactive effects (hemp) and the other offering psychoactive effects (marijuana), both
are against the law. Several states have passed laws to allow the growing of hemp; however the federal
government has stood firm on the ban for decades, and continues to do so. The time has come for the
feds to update obsolete polices and get a dose of reality; it s time to legalize industrial hemp.
Did you know Industrial hemp has been grown on American soil since the beginning of this great
nation? Did you also know that it s only been illegal for over 70 years now? So why now is this
amazing resourceful plant illegal? That s one question that still needs to be answered. In this proposal
I will introduce and explain why industrial hemp needs to be made legal to manufacture and cultivate
in the United States of America.
This plant has huge potential and a growing market in the United States. What makes hemp so
valuable? Its uses are virtually endless. But, here s a start:

Use of Ethos, Pathos, and Logos in a Vicks NyQuil Advertisement
Advertisements often employ many different methods of persuading a potential consumer. The vast
majority of persuasive methods can be classified into three modes. These modes are ethos, pathos, and
logos. Ethos makes an appeal of character or personality. Pathos makes an appeal to the emotions. And
logos appeals to reason or logic. This fascinating system of classification, first invented by Aristotle,
remains valid even today. Let s explore how this system can be applied to a modern magazine
advertisement.

The use of the ellipsis is also a nice touch, since it accentuated the use of the word medicine. Equating
it to medicine, as opposed to a treatment or tonic, makes the product seem more important. On the
other hand, if the ellipsis were taken away, then the meaning of the message may be misinterpreted.
The best sleep you ever got with a cold medicine. Without the ellipsis, a consumer may inadvertently
think of cold medicines as being detrimental towards sleep. The use of the ellipsis makes the
difference between good ethos and bad pathos.
NyQuil also helps protect its own ethos by not divulging too much information about the weakness of
the product. Everyone knows that there is no cure for the common cold. Therefore, NyQuil cannot
claim to actually cure a cold. But it would be an ill advised business decision to emphasize the fact
that the product cannot actually cure a cold. NyQuil makes the best of the situation, by letting the
consumer know that even though you may have a cold, by taking NyQuil you will feel the best that
you possibly can. NyQuil does its best to portray the best public image possible, and PR is very
important when it comes to business.
As far as pathos, most people know what it feels like to be sick with a cold. Once night comes, they
just want sleep, yet due to congestion and headaches, sleep doesn t come easy, and rarely feels restful.

Today, I am here to talk to you about something that everyone should be aware of, and something that
should put Trump to shame. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Donald Trump had sent an order to our

Why did we exactly bomb Syria? . The main reason on why Trump sent out the order was to scare
Assad. Assad, first off, is Bashar al Assad. He is the 19th and current president of Syria. Assad first

The Graduate and Plastics
The Graduate is a 1967 film directed by Mike Nichols who won an Oscar for his direction. This hit of
the 60 s focuses on the development and the maturing of the ultra na #239;ve college graduate
Benjamin Braddock. This movie is about just one word...Plastics. Mr. McQuire sums up this entire
movie when he tells Ben that there is a great future in plastics. In this film the relationships, except the
one between Ben and Elaine, are like plastic because they are not real, they are molded, and they are
artificial.

Robinson is the only one who recognizes the falsehood of the marriage. When Mr. Robinson confronts
Ben he tells him that he and his wife are getting a divorce soon. Mr. Robinson acts as though the affair
is the only reason for the divorce, which may be true in his mind. We never know the thoughts of Mr.
Robinson he might truly love Mrs. Robinson but we can never know for certain. Mr. Robinson, like
Ben, is na #239;ve to the world around him. He is in his own artificially created world, a world made
of plastic, created by plastic relationships.
When Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson he enters a world of plastic. Like plastic, this world is capable
of being shaped into the desired world of the manipulator. The manipulator in this instance is the
decadent and sardonic Mrs. Robinson. She holds the cards because she knows how to play the game.
Ben is young, na #239;ve, and inexperienced. Mrs. Robinson spots these characteristics and uses them
to get her way. When Ben questions their actions, she insults his masculinity by claiming this is his
first time which leads to their first sexual encounter. Mrs. Robinson knows how to control him so that
he does take part in this affair because at the moment all she wants is him. I don t think that Ben has
any idea what he is doing; it is almost as though he has nothing better to do than to have an affair with

Paper Mache Research Paper
Art is perhaps the best way on the planet to show and describe feelings. For many people art is
nothing but color on paper, but in truth it is so much more. To be able to properly understand a work
of art, which could be a sculpture, painting, drawing etc. You must first be able to understand how the
artist has expressed themselves. So we are going to take this one step at a time and look at one of the
most popular type of sculpture. Paper mache. Paper mache comes from the combination of French
syllables, papier mache meaning chewed paper. The art form gets its name from it s wet, soggy
appearance. The composite material can be made from paper or pulp. In Ancient Egypt, many of the

For those of you who don t know what a pinata is, it is basically a paper mache animal or toy that you
hollow out and fill with candy. Then you put on a blindfold and hit it with a bat until the candy comes
out. This tradition first originated from Spain except you would fill the pinata with toys or other small
trinkets instead of candy.
For those of you who are new to art. It is not easy. Frustration can be very common, especially when
you sculpt in paper mache. I have done paper mache before and know it to be very unforgiving if you
make a mistake. A couple examples of things you want to avoid are: thin spots on your project, (cave
in s), Not too much solution, (Can wreck your base), And painting before your sculpture is dry.
Like I said at the start of this essay. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself in many ways: visual,
photographic, sculpting (3D) etc. but one thing everyone must keep in mind is that no piece of art is
perfect. If you make a mistake that is just fine, you are not a professional. And if you are, well good
for you. But what I am trying to say is that not just anyone can fully grasp or understand art. As all my
teachers say. It s okay not to know, however it isn t okay not to

depending on the actions taken by terrorist organizations. American Terrorism, Environment Style,
written by Doug Bandow, predominantly deliberates about the acts/ views of eco terrorism. With close
alliance to the title, the opening statement, Terrorists are loose in America eco terrorists (cite),
expresses the emergence of eco terrorism. Eco terrorism, according to the Federal Bureau, is the use or

Substance Use Disorders Are Chronic And Recurrent. Impulse...
1.6 Guiding principals 1.6.1 Longitudinal data analysis Substance use disorders are chronic and
recurrent. Impulse control, which is a predisposition to and/or a consequence of substance use
disorders, is also a core behavioral domain underlying many HIV risk behaviors. Unlike some HIV
risk behaviors such as engaging in unprotected sex, substance use disorders are more proximally
associated with brain biology. In order to study HIV risk behaviors among injection drug users, we
will use the data in a longitudinal manner rather than reducing the data to a cross section or single
measure (e.g., lifetime dependence). The reason is that a longitudinal data provides more valuable
information about the long term trajectories of the HIV risk behaviors of injection drug users. This
information may yield a phenotype that reflects severity and intensity in a way that is more strongly
related to the underlying biology of the trait. Using longitudinal ALIVE injection data, we borrow the
concept of pack years to create our phenotype, injection years, (Caporaso et al., 2009) and analyze the
composite HIV risk phenotypes of the trajectories of the participants. (Smith et al., 2015) The lives
and relationships of injection drug users tend toward instability; hence, there exists virtually no perfect
attendance record for any single participant in this study. For this thesis, we accessed the ALIVE
cohort, a longitudinal community based study, and we use statistical approaches to impute the

Glorifying the Age of Reason
THE AGE OF REASON The age of reason is a period in time in which the idea of reasoning things
out was glorified. This period is also known as The Enlightenment , it started around the mid 1600 s
and ended at around the end of the 1700 s. Never before had questioning things and acquiring
solutions for ourselves as individuals been so popular. This age resulted in major advancements in
mathematics, science, even in political views and other subjects. This period is a concoction of
different minds that contributed towards the creation of various new ideas, some which were radical
for its time. There are two guys that are considered to be the fathers of The Enlightenment, they were
Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes. Francis Bacon believed that he could free the ignorant mind of
plebs with science, and with science they would be able to become more productive and also live
better lives. But to discard of ignorance that was so widespread at his time is not easy, so he had to
come up with a way for people to figure things out. These two really set up the method for everyone
else to figure things out and this method is known as the Scientific Method. Isaac Newton, another
great thinker/mathematician/physicist of The Enlightenment took the ideas of Francis Bacon and Rene
Descartes and took them beyond imagination. He created a branch of math called calculus and also the
laws of gravity and the laws of motion. Other subjects prospered around this time as well such as
chemistry and

  • 3. Understanding Multiple Myeloma Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell dyscrasia characterized by the proliferation of malignant cells in the bone marrow (Porth, 2009). Also known as plasma cell myeloma, myelomatosis, medullary plasmacytosis or Kahler s disease, MM results from the development of a monoclonal immunoglobulin (referred to as an M protein), a monoclonal immunoglobulin light chain, or both (Ferreira, 2013). Patients with MM can present with a wide range of signs and symptoms including bone fractures, anemia and kidney damage or no symptoms at all (Lobban Perkins, 2013). This creates a diagnostic challenge to clinicians as many of these conditions are of benign etiology (Lobban Perkins, 2013). The individual variations among patients with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Patients with increased age, male gender, African American descent, familial incidence of MM or a history of other plasma cell disorders are all at higher risk of a developing MM (Lobban Perkins, 2013). Radiation and exposure to agricultural chemicals like Agent Orange have been linked to MM (Kelly et al, 2010). Other risk factors include chronic immune stimulation, autoimmune disorders, and certain viruses including HIV infection (Porth, 2009). To understand the pathophysiology of MM, it is essential to understand the concept of B cell maturation into plasma cells that release proteins called immunoglobulins (Kelly et al, 2010). Lymphoid stem cells in the bone marrow develop into either T or B lymphocytes (Kelly et al, 2010). The B lymphocyte is responsible for humoral immunity and can be identified by the presence of a membrane immunoglobulin (Sommer, 2009). There are five classes of immunoglobulins: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, and IgE (Sommer, 2009). Each immunoglobulin has two identical light (L) chains and two identical heavy (H) chains to form a Y shaped molecule (Sommer, 2009, p. 365). The light chains are termed kappa or lambda and the heavy chains define the five classes of immunoglobulins (Kelly et al, 2010). Myeloma occurs when there is an overproduction of one of these immunoglobulins (Kelly et al, 2010). The immunoglobulin that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Boys Behavior In Lord Of The Flies Research Paper The behavior of the boys prior to the storm coming was calm as the boys were on the beach, and Jack was feeding both Ralph and Piggy and there was only a thunderous brass. (pg. 149) However, Jack begins an argument with Ralph and says that the conch doesn t count at this end of the island. Shortly after Jack says this, all at once, the thunder stuck. Instead of the dull boom, there was a point of impact in the explosion. (pg. 150) The description of the storm quickly changed as it is now being described as more intense as before, since the word explosion is used to describe the thunder instead of dull boom. Since the description of the storm began to escalate directly after Jack began to challenge Ralph and the rule of the conch therefore becoming chaotic, and defying order the correlation of the intensity of the storm and the boys behavior is made clear. Then, the storm begins to bring thunder [that was] only just bearable and [a] flickering bright light [that] became brighter (pg. 151) At the same time, the littluns start to become disorderly as they begin to scream and run around recklessly, and the bigguns begin moving ... • 9. Notes On The Slave Trade Atlantic Slave Trade What is the slave trade? Well, I believe that the slave trade is when white people of the Americas would take black people, and put them on ships, and then bring them over the Atlantic ocean to the Americas to become slaves. This must have affected a lot of people during the Atlantic Slave Trade. Well, it did. Most of the slaves received being branded on their shoulder, breast or buttock. and many experienced getting their names changed so that is was almost impossible for their family to trace them. I m always wondering, why did the slave trade last so long, and what values were found during the slave trade. Well, I believe the slave trade lasted so long, because numerous people died of diseases, which caused a heavy demand for more slaves every year. With the historical book, Roots, a primary sources, Olaudah Equiano, and a secondary source The Cruelest Commerce I will give evidence to back up my answers to the three questions, what is the slave trade? How where humans affected by the slave trade, and why did the slave trade last so long and what values were found in the slave trade? The slave trade was when captured slaves, or people taken captive in wars, would be put on ships to be taken over the Atlantic Ocean to the New World or as we know today as the Americas. Also, Brazil, which is a colony of Portugal, received the largest amount of African slaves, so that is why their culture has various traits of African culture today. According to ... • 10. Connotation Of Richard Cory Richard Cory is a narrative poem written by Edwin Arlington Robinson. The poem was first published in 1897,and has been completed in July of that year as a part of The Children of the Night. In the 1893 is when the economic depression occurred which recall Robinson s most popular poems. At that time, people could not afford meat and had a diet mainly of bread, often day old bread selling for less than freshly baked goods. This hard times experience made the townspeople even more aware of Richard s difference from them, so much so that they treated him as royalty. The Poem describes a person who is wealthy, well educated, mannerly, and admired by the people in his town. Robinson uses connotation for Richard Cory high on a pedestal above the townspeople. The townspeople are a lower class than Richard Cory. This suggests that Richard Cory is coming down, or lowering himself, to the level of the townspeople when he comes into town. He also does not treat the towns people with no respect he actually wants to make them feel comfortable with them. Robinson positions the characters to show the differences in their financial status. He also shows that it is the townspeople, and not Cory, that seem to define these positions. Cory is perceived as distant royalty, he is perceived as a gentlemen,an aristocraft above those who worked, are not able to communicate with other people. This is an example of of showing that Richard Cory isn t as happy as we all think he is, as he seems like the perfect gentlemen, but he commits suicide one one calm Night. Although it is written by an American poet and set in an American town, connotation is used to suggest a noble, royal image of Richard Cory. His name, Richard, is the name of many kings. Also, Richard contains the word rich, which suggests his wealth. There are many other royal connotations and images in this poem including: sole to crown, imperially slim, and schooled in every grace. Crown, imperially and grace all suggest royalty. Robinson uses denotation, or the use of words for the exact meaning to emphasize this image of Richard Cory being local royalty. Richard Cory was a rich, well educated man. Managers encouragement of employee voice can result in an overall increase of productivity and well being. First of all, a fundamental term which must be understood is the definition of Employee voice (EV) . Wilkinson and Fay (2011) summarise voice as how much say an employee has in regard to decision making in the workplace. As a result, if EV is not encouraged by a manager it can lead to employees feeling discouraged to express their opinions, overall reducing wellbeing and psychological security within that organisation (Detert Burris, 2007). Gifted students are capable of achieving, but factors such as learning disabilities and poor self efficacy, prevent them from performing adequately. There are interventions that teachers and parents can work together to implement to help work against these factors of underachievement. According to the article, Underachieving gifted students: Two case studies , gifted students need specific interventions to help them be successful in the gifted classroom. Through the implementation of a Creative Writing Program, it was found that positive reinforcement, one to one teacher support, and differentiation are interventions that help to alleviate gifted underachievement (Bennett Rappell Northcote, 2016). I personally loved this article because it spoke from the honest application of specific interventions within a realistic classroom situation. The specificity of interventions and honest reports of success when implemented were extremely helpful in determining effective instructional decisions when working with this niche student group. As a new teacher, it is intimidating to see a pattern happening amongst your students and not know the best practices that I should implement to help alleviate the pattern. Russia 1856-1860 From 1856 to 1964 Russia transformed from a backward, agriculturally based country, governed by an autocratic ruler and divided by the feudal system to a global superpower that had nuclear capabilities. These profound changes are attributed to many factors, however through closer examination it can be determined the extent to whether individuals, events such as wars or other circumstances, for example, the geography of Russia played the most significant role in Russia s social, political and economic modernisation from 1856 1964. Individuals played a role in the social modernisation of Russia, in particular, Alexander II and Khrushchev. The Fear Of Communism In Arthur Miller s The Crucible Beware of Artists, They mix with all classes of society and therefore are the most dangerous, reads one of the numerous forms of propaganda distributed by Senator Joseph McCarthy. The following quote was a dominant factor to The Crucible itself because the fear of communism personally affected Arthur Miller. The play represents an analogy to the Red Scare in the 1950 s because the Salem witch trials had many similarities to America during this time. The Red Scare was a time of mass hysteria for the nation. It occurred during the Cold War, which was after World War II, when the Soviet Union and America were undergoing economic and political altercations. Due to some Americans previously helping the Soviet Union during World War II, it was greatly feared that those very Americans would commit treason by providing the Soviet Union with information that could harm American society and the security of the United States (Red Scare). Nevertheless, during the 1990 s, sources revealed that three hundred or more American communists did give Soviets information during World War II. This concludes that espionage was a legitimate threat. Furthermore, the question remains, were the actions to prevent communism taken too far? This is a comparison essay between Al Gore s documentary a vocal advocate for global warming reform and a film made by deniers. In the film Unstoppable Solar Cycles: Rethinking Global warming. The creators express skepticism towards the cause of global warming. That s to say, they do think that temperature is rising, their skepticism is towards CO2 as the cause. Their main message is that weather changes constantly and ultimately operates in cycles. However, they do admit that this can still cause problems. And they pose the question about how we can best cope with this natural change. Overall, they worry that a focus on CO2 might cause more harm than good, and they encourage consideration of other causes other than an increase in carbon dioxide. The evidence they present for their claim is provided by looking at temperature and CO2 levels from the past 600 years. This showing that the Earth has had global warming and cooling cycles before an increase in man caused CO2. This data showing that temperature increases before CO2, not after. Verbal and non verbal messages expressed by should ideally have congruency, meaning they complement each other (DeVito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Incongruent verbal and non verbal messages often lead to confusion in the receiver, hindering successful reception and comprehension of the information being communicated and therefore resulting in a failure in the communication process (Devito, 2008; Firth et al., 2010). Hence, congruent verbal and non verbal messages encoded and communicated by sender will also aid in reducing the likeliness of communication failure. It has been suggested that a failure or breakdown in the interpersonal communication process can be further reduced if both the sender and receiver possess satisfactory levels of what is termed emotional intelligence (Goleman, 1998; Lynn, 2002). Emotional intelligence may be defined as a person s ability to recognise, control and evaluate their own feelings and emotions as well as the feelings and emotions of others (Goleman, 1998). Throughout this essay the traditional definitions of subcultures, that mainly concentrate on class and style as their main features, will be looked at and explained. It will then be demonstrated how these ways of thinking are no longer relevant to the 21st century therefore the term subculture needs to be rethought for it to be an applicable category in the 21st century. The term youth subcultures was first made and studied at the University Of Chicago in America (Blackman, 2003) . The school was of the sociological discipline and looked at subcultures as deviant groups, much of the research was conducted on gangs. The theorists were in disagreement with the picture the mass media had been painting about youth. This picture was of a homogeneous group in which class was not a factor and all youth adhered to one unified culture (Dvarionaite, 2015). Early American theorist of the Chicago school believed class was a leading factor as to why there was social disorganisation. Albert K. Cohen went on further to explain how class created divisions in society. Cohen described subcultures as emerging when, a number of actors with similar problems of social adjustment interact with one another and innovate new frames of reference. This impacts us because our country s government is being represented as as a country who takes our victories when another country is vulnerable, do you want your government to be represented like that? Do you want to be represented in a way where we win when someone is on the ground, hurt? Because I personally don t know about you, but I don t want to be represent by a government like that. I could not believe how much it changed me; it did so much to the point where just by understanding and applying the meaning into the words it contains, it can open many doors for you along with making you a better person by doing the right thing. I used to think about only myself and my own personal problems until that it started to become a problem as well. Not seeing that my little problem was nothing compared to others daily struggles. My heart aches from feeling ashamed to think about the way I used to look down on others for them needing help and asking for it. This hit of the 60 s focuses on the development and the maturing of the ultra na #239;ve college graduate Benjamin Braddock. This movie is about just one word...Plastics. Mr. McQuire sums up this entire movie when he tells Ben that there is a great future in plastics. In this film the relationships, except the one between Ben and Elaine, are like plastic because they are not real, they are molded, and they are artificial. The relationship between Mr. and Mrs. Robinson is shaky at best. There is no love in their marriage; in fact, the only reason there is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Robinson is the only one who recognizes the falsehood of the marriage. When Mr. Robinson confronts Ben he tells him that he and his wife are getting a divorce soon. Mr. Robinson acts as though the affair is the only reason for the divorce, which may be true in his mind. We never know the thoughts of Mr. Robinson he might truly love Mrs. Robinson but we can never know for certain. Mr. Robinson, like Ben, is na #239;ve to the world around him. He is in his own artificially created world, a world made of plastic, created by plastic relationships. When Ben is seduced by Mrs. Robinson he enters a world of plastic. Like plastic, this world is capable of being shaped into the desired world of the manipulator. The manipulator in this instance is the decadent and sardonic Mrs. Robinson. She holds the cards because she knows how to play the game. Ben is young, na #239;ve, and inexperienced. Mrs. Robinson spots these characteristics and uses them to get her way. When Ben questions their actions, she insults his masculinity by claiming this is his first time which leads to their first sexual encounter. Mrs. Robinson knows how to control him so that he does take part in this affair because at the moment all she wants is him. I don t think that Ben has any idea what he is doing; it is almost as though he has nothing better to do than to have an affair with Mrs. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Paper Mache Research Paper Art is perhaps the best way on the planet to show and describe feelings. For many people art is nothing but color on paper, but in truth it is so much more. To be able to properly understand a work of art, which could be a sculpture, painting, drawing etc. You must first be able to understand how the artist has expressed themselves. So we are going to take this one step at a time and look at one of the most popular type of sculpture. Paper mache. Paper mache comes from the combination of French syllables, papier mache meaning chewed paper. The art form gets its name from it s wet, soggy appearance. The composite material can be made from paper or pulp. In Ancient Egypt, many of the facemasks and caskets were made from crushed up papyrus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For those of you who don t know what a pinata is, it is basically a paper mache animal or toy that you hollow out and fill with candy. Then you put on a blindfold and hit it with a bat until the candy comes out. This tradition first originated from Spain except you would fill the pinata with toys or other small trinkets instead of candy. For those of you who are new to art. It is not easy. Frustration can be very common, especially when you sculpt in paper mache. I have done paper mache before and know it to be very unforgiving if you make a mistake. A couple examples of things you want to avoid are: thin spots on your project, (cave in s), Not too much solution, (Can wreck your base), And painting before your sculpture is dry. Like I said at the start of this essay. Art is a wonderful way to express yourself in many ways: visual, photographic, sculpting (3D) etc. but one thing everyone must keep in mind is that no piece of art is perfect. If you make a mistake that is just fine, you are not a professional. And if you are, well good for you. But what I am trying to say is that not just anyone can fully grasp or understand art. As all my teachers say. It s okay not to know, however it isn t okay not to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

American Terrorism, Environment Style, written by Doug Bandow, predominantly deliberates about the acts/ views of eco terrorism. • 35. Substance Use Disorders Are Chronic And Recurrent. Impulse... 1.6 Guiding principals 1.6.1 Longitudinal data analysis Substance use disorders are chronic and recurrent. Impulse control, which is a predisposition to and/or a consequence of substance use disorders, is also a core behavioral domain underlying many HIV risk behaviors. Unlike some HIV risk behaviors such as engaging in unprotected sex, substance use disorders are more proximally associated with brain biology. In order to study HIV risk behaviors among injection drug users, we will use the data in a longitudinal manner rather than reducing the data to a cross section or single measure (e.g., lifetime dependence). The reason is that a longitudinal data provides more valuable information about the long term trajectories of the HIV risk behaviors of injection drug users. This information may yield a phenotype that reflects severity and intensity in a way that is more strongly related to the underlying biology of the trait. Using longitudinal ALIVE injection data, we borrow the concept of pack years to create our phenotype, injection years, (Caporaso et al., 2009) and analyze the composite HIV risk phenotypes of the trajectories of the participants. (Smith et al., 2015) The lives and relationships of injection drug users tend toward instability; hence, there exists virtually no perfect attendance record for any single participant in this study. For this thesis, we accessed the ALIVE cohort, a longitudinal community based study, and we use statistical approaches to impute the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Glorifying the Age of Reason THE AGE OF REASON The age of reason is a period in time in which the idea of reasoning things out was glorified. This period is also known as The Enlightenment , it started around the mid 1600 s and ended at around the end of the 1700 s. Never before had questioning things and acquiring solutions for ourselves as individuals been so popular. This age resulted in major advancements in mathematics, science, even in political views and other subjects. This period is a concoction of different minds that contributed towards the creation of various new ideas, some which were radical for its time. There are two guys that are considered to be the fathers of The Enlightenment, they were Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes. Francis Bacon believed that he could free the ignorant mind of plebs with science, and with science they would be able to become more productive and also live better lives. But to discard of ignorance that was so widespread at his time is not easy, so he had to come up with a way for people to figure things out. These two really set up the method for everyone else to figure things out and this method is known as the Scientific Method. Isaac Newton, another great thinker/mathematician/physicist of The Enlightenment took the ideas of Francis Bacon and Rene Descartes and took them beyond imagination. He created a branch of math called calculus and also the laws of gravity and the laws of motion. Other subjects prospered around this time as well such as chemistry and ...
