The Cuban War of Independence from 1895-1898 aimed to liberate Cuba from Spanish rule. Led by Jose Marti, the independence movement employed guerrilla warfare tactics against the Spanish. Marti's vision was for blacks and whites to fight together for independence and bring economic prosperity to Cuba. After years of fighting, the Liberation Army approved the "Jimaguayu Constitution", establishing a new Cuban government and weakening Spanish power on the island. This ultimately led to Cuban independence.
