Evaluation Question 4How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
ResearchInternet ResearchYoutubeThe biggest aid to our research was the access to existing music videos on youtube.com (links) we we’re able to find videos of many different genres very easily, which allowed us to compare and contrast the key themes that we found in each type of music. (insert spinning cube thing)Followed Tutorials From WebsitesWe tried an ‘old film look’ tutorial in After Effects. Although the effect looked professional and worked in isolation, it negated the modern effect that we wanted to create, even though we only used it on the moments in the past, the transition wasn’t fluid enough to work well, so we cut it. But it was nice to know that we had websites like this to assist us in After Effects.Link to tutorial videohttp://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/old_film_look/
ResearchInternet ResearchDafont.comWe used dafont in order to find the right lettering for certain effects. From this website, we were able to download the fonts we wanted, saved them to the desktop, from there we could put them into programs such as Abode Photoshop. River Island and TopmanWe used websites like Topman and River Island to research current styles and fashions for both our male and female characters. We also took influence from people from popular culture, Alex Turner and Alexa Chung for example, and we found their pictures on a simple google search. (insert pictures)Lyricsmania.comWe also used it to get easy access to song lyrics, for ‘Mardy Bum’. This allowed us to print them off and annotate our interpretations of its meaning and how we could convey this message through our video. ConstructionCamera EquipmentSony HDR-FX7 HD Camcorder This captured footage in 1080p high def at 25 frames per second and allowed us capture the optimum clarity. After filming we removed the SD card and put it into a card reader which then transferred the data onto a computer.Nikon D90 SLR CameraThe camera had settings we could use to adjust focus and exposure. After we had taken our photos we went through the same process of getting them onto the hard driveThe advantage of using a digital camera is that it makes our work easier to edit and improves the quality. To further the clarity of our images we also used the umbrella flash gun within the studio to light our images in a gloomy way to create the correct mood.Stills CameraThe stills camera was perfect for documenting our progress. We used it mainly for taking photos of the behind the scenes work, whilst filming and working on computers. We also used the ‘big’ stills camera as part of the ancillary work to put in the album cover and for part of the poster.
EditingAdobe ProgrammesAdobe PremierThe programme that we used the most in the production of this project was Adobe Premier. We had never used it before but it became very simple and accessible after using it for a short time. It allowed us to edit our clips together and manipulate our footage. Once we got the hang of the process of editing, we were able to put in effects to improve the aesthetics of our music video. For example, this is a short video of us demonstrating how to put a ‘cross dissolve’ effect, into our piece. Also demonstrate the colour pass thing though print screens. Adobe After Effects Adobe After Effects was a programme that we used once we had exported our piece from premier. Our only intention for this programme was to change the colouration of the entire piece. We changed the colour curves and this gave it a much warmer atmosphere. This is the difference of a shot with and without colouration.
EditingAdobe ProgrammesAdobe PhotoshopWe also used Adobe Photoshop in our project for our album cover. We used the program to fill in the colours and lines of the cartoons that had been hand drawn. Here is a breakdown of the initial sketch, computer interpretation and photo-shopped final piece.AudacityWe used audacity towards the beginning of our project in order to get the music from Youtube into Adobe Premier. We changed the settings, recorded the track into audacity and then exported it as a WAV file and imported it into Premier.
PresentationSocial NetworkingBloggerIn order to present our process of creation and our final product we uploaded posts to blogger. This way we could display our work chronologically, and still go back and edit what we had done. SlideshareBy creating a Slideshare account, I was able to upload Microsoft Powerpoint presentations into blogger and vary the presentation of information.FacebookOnce we had finished album cover we decided to put it onto facebook in order to get some feedback. It was simple to upload our piece as well as get comments on them. We also used facebook as a good way to communicate and organise our groups activities.
