Popsicle Cross Bridge
During the Physics bridge project, teams were instructed to hypothesize and construct a Truss Bridge
from Popsicle sticks to learn valuable life and Physics lessons. One team, in particular, Physics
Abridged, may not have won but the team members have definitely learned more lessons any other
team. This team began its trek to greatness by conducting several hours of academic research. In fact,
the group had at least fifteen sources. In the first research phase, the team amassed ten sources;
however, Terence felt as if that was not enough, so he researched more in depth to understand the
Trusses that his team would be using. This resulted in what the group could label as some of the best
research ever conducted for the Bridge Project; however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Self education is always expected in life because it ranges from morality, to actions, or even learning a
lesson by yourself because the lesson was perplexing. The last option is seen in the Physics Bridge
project. Terence began without any knowledge of a truss but through bundles of research and
experimentation, he was able to understand. As stated before, everyone will go through a period in life
when they do not understand a topic. Therefore, they must take their education into their own hands
and they must apply themselves to the fullest of their capabilites until it comes to

Social Status And Social Class In The Great Gatsby
The Great Gatsby was published in 1925 and it revolves around class and money. Social status and
class difference are two important themes of the novel and the characters are given their power and
impact by the class they belong to giving them various advantages and disadvantages. Different
characters are from different social classes in the novel. Tom Buchanan and Daisy belonged to the
upper class, Nick Caraway belonged to the middle class and the Wilson s were part of the lower class.
Gatsby had the wealth to be part of the upper class but he was not. Social class is the status they have
in the society and this is what separates the characters and differentiates their behavior. From the start,
we see a hint of difference in the social ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Gatsby and Daisy were returning from town Daisy hits Myrtle and does not even stop to check
what happened to the victim. Daisy was driving carelessly by driving too fast and by allowing herself
to be distracted by the day s unpleasant events. Finally, after hitting Myrtle with Gatsby s car, Daisy
panics and flees the scene, not even stopping to see if her victim survived (Lance 2000). She leaves
Gatsby with his car knowing he will get into trouble as it is his car but she does not care. Gatsby has
no choice but to take the blame on himself as he truly loves Daisy and this leads to his death as Wilson
tracked the owner of the car that killed his wife and kills Gatsby as the car belongs to him and Wilson
thinks he killed Myrtle. This carelessness by Daisy leads to 3 deaths as Wilson also kills himself after
killing Gatsby. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy they smashed up things and creatures and
then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them
together, and let other people clean up their mess (Fitzgerald 167). After this she leaves on vacations
not caring what happens to Gatsby neither she accepts her mistake. Daisy was also careless in her
affair with Gatsby firstly she married Tom behind his back when he Gatsby was gone war. When
Gatsby gets wealthy she says she loves him and she tries to get close to him calling him over for lunch
and goes with him in Toms car to town You take Nick and Jordan. We ll follow you in the coupe

Young V. United Parcel Service Summary
In Young v. United Parcel Service, Inc., the Supreme Court issued a decision and framework on how
to resolve a disparate discrimination claim under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA). Here
below follows a summary of the case facts and analysis of the Courts decision and its implications.
Summary of The Facts Peggy Young, the petitioner, worked as a part time driver for United Parcel
Services, Inc. (UPS). In 2006, after suffering several miscarriages, Young became pregnant, and her
doctor advised her to not lift more than 20 pounds during the first 20 weeks of her pregnancy or more
than 10 pounds thereafter. However, UPS required its drivers to lift parcels weighing up to 70 pounds
and up to 150 pounds with assistance. Young asked UPS ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though the company s supported this decision on their policy at the time, it raises the ethical question
of whether the company should have analyzed the accommodation request (as a case by case situation)
rather than defending blanket rules based on the source of the temporary inability to perform the job.
How much of a liability would it have been for UPS to temporarily accommodate pregnant
employees, when it already accommodated a larger group? As Justice Breyer put it, why, when the
employer accommodated so many, could it not accommodate pregnant women as well? Can company
policies less favorably to pregnant employees be a sign of sex inequality, as pregnancy only affects
women? How could UPS accommodate a driver who lost their DOT certification (because of a failed
medical exam, lost driver s license, or involvement in a motor vehicle accident all of which I consider
can be a result of personal decisions outside the job), yet it puts pressure on women to make a decision
between pregnancy and their ability to remain

An Analysis Of Stephen J. Dubner s The Book
This non fiction book was written by an economist at the University of Chicago, Steven Levitt, and a
New York Times journalist, Stephen J. Dubner. The book is written in a manner of self help in which
readers themselves, who are after innovation in business and marketing, are able to incentivize and
persuade the people. The main message focuses on making decisions and choices appealing to a larger
group that could have once started off as a decision to be of one s own private benefit. In order, to
think like a Freak as Dubner and Levitt put it, one must first be able to put away their moral compass .
This is considered the thought processes of oneself that are vague, for they are biased by the views of
the persons on what would be the right thing to do according to their political, religious, or ethical
outlook. However, when thinking like a freak one must be in an economic sense. People who do not
put away their moral guiding will already have a plan on what to do that may not be the most
beneficial or it can even be harmful. The authors also emphasize on the three words of I don t know .
By using this phrase one can literally put of what they do not know to dig in, and after doing the
research and gathering necessary they would be able to disperse their knowledge. For adults this is
hard to say because the moral compass is what creates a clear distinction between the right and the
wrong, but this can lead to a lack of learning more about the topic or situation.

The Is A Humanitarian Catastrophe
Syria
Aleppo is a humanitarian catastrophe. Frequent air and chemical attacks leaves the average Syrian
civilian in fear for their lives on a daily basis. With the Western half controlled by the Bashar al Assad
government and the Eastern half in controlled by anti government rebels bloodshed always lingers.
For years, power has shifted between the two sides with many outside forces joining, tipping the
power balances. With no end in sight, massive loss of life is becoming a universal issue.
Inspired by the Arab Spring, revolution was on the horizon in Syria. Fed up with the government
control, rebels have rallied against the government. In nearly five years of armed conflict the civil war
in Syria has claimed nearly 470,000 lives: 400,000 through direct violence and an additional 70,000 as
an indirect result of the war. A governmental regime which uses terrorists tactics is one that should be
looked at as a threat. The president of Syria, Bashar Al Assad, has carried out a siege against his own
civilians in Aleppo trapping them from the rest of the world. Depriving nearly 250,000 people of food,
water, and supplies while bombing them on a daily basis is simply inhumane (UN News Centre). The
government has gone to the point of using chemical weapons on their own civilians, killing many
men, women, and children. The bloodbath is more than just those who support the Ba ath Party
Government and those who want a revolution, but includes many groups and world powers. Although

Exploring How Peter Medak Gains the Viewer’s Sympathy for...
Exploring How Peter Medak Gains the Viewer s Sympathy for Derek Bentley in the Film Let Him
Have It! Peter Medak (Medak) chose to make this film because it had an interesting story line. Medak
might have wanted to prove that the justice system makes mistake and sometimes those mistakes
cannot be fixed, like the mistake or the Derek Bentley (Bentley) and Christopher Craig (Craig) case,
where someone was hanged for a miss interpretation of evidence. Film directors like Medak use bias
as their strong point; it keeps the viewers attention on the movie and begins to get the viewers to
imagine what they would do in the situation. The film is set in the 1950 s Britain. Bentley and Craig,
two teenagers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Craig was more in the blame for killing the officer and should have got death penalty, as he pulled the
trigger. Bentley s life should have been spared as a lot of evidence given was bias and did not see
Bentley s point of view. Bentley was also epileptic and could never think for himself and always
followed someone. Medak gains our sympathy for Derek by basing the movie around the misfortunes
of his life. The opening scene of the blitz during world war II where Bentley is trapped under rubble,
as soon as they lift the rubble of the see Bentley having an epileptic fit, we already sympathise for
Bentley, during this scene Medak zooms in onto Bentley during the fit and reduces the volume of the
background and concentrates on the sound of Bentley. This opening scene is very effective; at this
point Medak has already gained our sympathy for Bentley as we he is a child who suffers from
epilepsy. In our minds we see a stereotype of a child being innocent. This scene is bias as it features on
Bentley only and not on any other characters so we straightaway feel sorry for him. We see no one
else s troubles apart from Bentley s, he emphasises on Bentley s innocence. This automatically makes
you question why it had to be him and not someone without an illness. During the blitz is not the only
time we feel sorry for Bentley.

Intertextuality In Pleasantville
Through the post modernist film Pleasantville (1998), director Gary Ross, incorporates intertextuality
to express his attitude towards idea of control through the characters of David (Tobey Maguire) and
Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon) who are transported into the 1950s sitcom. Ross implements allusions,
intertextual references through literature and art work and cinematic techniques to convey themes of
revolution, standing up for one s belief and liberation.
In Pleaseantville the theme of standing up for one s belief is well portrayed with multiple references to
Catcher in the Rye , by J.D. Salinger and cinematic devices. The intertextual connection between the
novel and film is most evident in the protagonist s quest to enlighten the society

Haitian-American Religious Beliefs
Religious Beliefs and Rituals
Approximately 90 percent of Haitians are Catholic and 10 % are Protestant (Jacobson, 2003). Within
the Haitian American community, however, Voodoo exists side by side with Christian faiths. Jacobson
goes on to explain that many Haitians see no contradiction in calling themselves Christians while
engaging in Voodoo practices (2003). In Haiti, Catholicism is highly ritualistic and religious practices
combine the ancient rituals of African based cultures with Western based faith practices. Jacobson
explains that Voodoo cosmology is made up of a large numbers of supernatural spirits...these spirits
are believed to have great influence on human beings and for that reason, they must be respected
(2003).

The Media Helps to Construct National Identity and Loyal...
The media helps to construct national identity and loyal national subjects. Discuss.
Introduction
In the twenty first century, the media has been transformed into a highly influential tool and
segmented to aspects such as print, broadcast, film, outdoor and internet etc. The relationship between
the media and construction of national identity is apparent with distinctive representation of
nationalism in news coverage of politics, celebrations, tourism and country heritage (Leong, 2001).
National identity is the transmission of each generation s legacy to the next and the enabling of the
nation citizen to take pride and identification of the country (Stephan, 2009). A nation positive unique
identity breeds patriotism which consequently ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As such the Singapore flag, pledge and anthem together with the National Day visual display of
patriotism and flags on the building are promoted daily in schools and annually on 9th of August with
much elaboration and significance.
Therefore, it can be seen that media in Singapore are essential tools to promote national identity while
supporting the ruling party political regime. Singapore then Prime Minister proposed that the press
should support national goals and he states that: we want mass media to reinforce, not undermine, the
cultural values and social attitudes being inculcated in out school and universities (Lee, 1971). For that
reason, most of Singapore media today is under control of the government or government linked
corporations and are the principal instrument in creating social and political stability as well as
advocating government policies and instilling nationalism (Leong, 2001).
Also, the government uses Roger Protection Motivation theory (Severin Tankard 1992, p.159) by
arousing fear to help influence the cognition, attitude and behaviors intention through the severity,
probability and efficacy of an event (Rogers, 1983). Fear appeal like self censorship; out of bound
markers and hefty defamation suit are used extensively to control the media and prevent dissenting
criticism or anything that will deconstruct the nation identity and subject loyalty.
As such, lesser negativity on the nation will

H1B Visa Process: Everything You Need to Know
The H1B visa process, also referred to as a work visa to USA, is a means of bringing foreign born
professionals to the United States temporarily; this is one of the most used immigration processes due
to the many large companies operating worldwide. An individual cannot apply for such status on his
or her own. It is the employer s responsibility to file the H1B visa petition with the US Immigration
Department.
H1B Eligibility
The H1B visa is applicable to those working in a specialty occupation that requires specific
knowledge in that area. However, it is also applicable to all companies wishing to temporarily bring
certain higher level executives working in international offices to the U.S., usually to assist on a
project, or to help expand the department with the intent of eventually remaining with the company in
it s U.S. based location.
The individual must have a bachelor s degree or equivalent.
An interview must take place at a U.S. consulate or embassy office.
If the interview is successful, the individual will have the H1B visa stamped on his or her passport.
Advantages of H1B Status
There are many advantages of having an H1B visa, some of which includes the fact that someone can
work and live in the United States as an immigrant without having to worry about obtaining additional
green cards or going through other immigration proceedings. Further, the H1B process is a lot quicker

How Did Eli Whitney Impact The Invention Of The Cotton Gin
American society was hugely impacted by Eli Whitney s invention of the cotton gin because it
changed the way cotton was separated, in turned made cotton production easier and made cotton
plantations spread across the South. This increased the need for slavery and caused a bigger wedge
between the North and the South.
In the South, during the late 1700 s, tobacco became a less lucrative crop, and it also laid waste to the
land robbing it of nutrients. Other crops of the period, hardly made any profit for the southern
plantation owners. It was then believed that the slave was no longer earning enough for the landowner
to pay for the upkeep and the end to slavery may have been near until a little invention changed all
that. The cotton gin was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A direct effect of the cotton gin was the need for more slaves to pick cotton since it was so easy to
separate, they now could work in volume. Consequently, more cotton crops caused more demand for
cheap labor and the role of slaves. Even though, the invention of the cotton gin decreased the amount
of labor, that was needed to separate the cotton from the seed, the caused an increase in the cotton
crops across the South. This provided a need for more slaves to pick those crops. After the
Proclamation of 1763 had been nullified, the land west of the Appalachians began to be settled as well
as the land from the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The new, rich land began to be worked for the new
cash crop of cotton as well as the increased demand for slaves to cultivate the soil and pick the cotton.
From 1790 to 1808 the South brought in 80,000 more slaves before the Act Prohibiting Importation of
Slaves outlined in the Constitution came into effect January 1, 1808. One third of the southern
population, after the cotton boom, were slaves.Thomas Jefferson, then Secretary of State at that time,
wrote in a letter to Eli Whitney, As to the State of Virginia, of which I am, carries on household
manufactures of cotton to a great extent, as I also do myself, and one of our great embarrassment is the
cleaning the cotton of the seeds, I feel a considerable interest in the success of your invention

Best Memories Research Paper
When most people think of a school they think of hard work yelling teens and just absolute chaos, but
they also my think back to when they themselves were in school or even their first year there as
freshmen and then think of all of the good and funny memories they had there in that year. I happen to
be one of them just thinking back to the beginning of the year and all the memories I have had so far.
Heck, some of my best memories are in school like when my balloon popped in class, and when me
and my friends messed with the plants we were supposed to grow and even when me and my friends
played a few games of UNO in the middle of class. First off, one way I had a great time in class is

talk to your teacher but we were already done so we were good. Another reason why this is one of my
best memories is none of us were winning. This makes it the best because we are all competitive and
none of us were winning, Which is kind of funny because all of us were smack talking each other
about who is going to win. Yet I ended up winning and won the next few games of UNO but they were
all pretty lengthy and took us most of the hour to play. This makes playing UNO in the middle of class
one of the best memories because our teacher didn t even care that much and that none of us were
winning even though we were all competitive. Some of my best memories that i have had in my
freshman year are when my balloon popped in the middle of class ,and when we messed with my
friends plant ,and finally when me and my friends played UNO in the middle of class. These were
some of my best memories because when my balloon popped everyone jumped out of their seats and
me and my friends couldn t help but laugh, and when we messed with my friends plant and we put a

Analysis Of The Awakening
In Chopin s novel, The Awakening, she writes about a woman s desire to find and live fully within her
true self during the 1890s in Louisiana. The woman, Edna Pontellier, is trying to find herself in the
masculine society of Louisiana, leading her to cause friction with friends, family and the Creole
society. Edna begins to feel a change; she begins to feel like a whole person with wants, interests and
desires. She learns that she is not comfortable with being a wife and mother. The imagery of the parrot
in the cage in Chopin s novel is being compared to Edna because it represents Edna s unspoken
feelings and imprisonment. The sense of unspoken feelings and imprisonment of Edna causes her to
put her own needs before her family. As Edna finds herself trying to satisfy the Creole society, she
begins to feel isolated and confused. Through Edna s trace of freedom, she begins to undergo a
transformation of self, slowly straying away from society, and taking control over her own actions and
beliefs. Through obstacles to Edna s freedom, she learns that she does have control of her own body.
The symbolism of the birds and the sea is used to symbolize Edna s struggle for independence. Chopin
s character Edna Pontellier in The Awakening represents a caged bird that is not able act on how she
feels. The caged birds serves as a reminder to Edna that she is caged in a role as a wife and mother,
and she is not to think of herself. In general, the caged birds symbolize the role of

Essay on Othello as a Black Man in a White Society
Othello as a Black Man in a White Society
Shakespeare s play,Othello, explores themes of love and passion, otherness , jealousy, revenge and
order vs. Chaos, which all revolve mainly around the protagonist, Othello. Surrounded by Venetians
within a white society, Othello begins to realise his otherness thus his insecurities as an outside and a
Moor increase. The deceptive Iago uses these dangerous blemishes in Othello s personality to
manipulate the moral Othello, using his one fatal flaw, jealousy.
During the 16th Century, the Elizabethan audiences attentiveness and familiarity of the thin line
between order and chaos would have added to the tragic story of Othello. This was due to the ... Show

What he meant by this is that Othello is a foreigner to all, because of his blackness he can never fit in.
However, this is ironic as the people of Venice accepted Othello as a righteous and valiant general in
the army, due to his brave act of protecting the Venetians from the evil grasp of the Turkish people.
Interestingly enough, these Venetians don t compare Othello to the supposedly iniquitous Turks
because he had defeated them, so they placed him higher up in the hierarchy of racial and social class.
Iago expresses his own opinion that Othello is an erring barbarian which is very ironic as Othello has
the status of a shielding warrior, a generous being that is a strong part of the army. Roderigo calls him
the lascivious Moor and tends to see Othello s black colour as a sign of dirtiness and obscenity. The
characters in Othello may possible have felt that Othello was a threat due to his otherness in his
appearance, such as his thick lips .
Othello s character is overtly and crudely sexualised, which is also a disadvantage to Othello as other
characters begin to believe that he is aggressive and sadistic. Black people, during the time of
Shakespeare, were mysterious to the white society. Venetians were not used to seeing and living with
people of other races and feared them because they were not familiar with

Reflection Of Schindler s List
It can be quite difficult to describe how you view the world around you. A way to do just that could be
to analyze how you view a specific film or piece of literature, describe how it makes you feel, and see
what that says about you as a person. As such, I will analyze my view on the movie, Schindler s List ,
one of my favorite movies. The movie is about Oskar Schindler who uses World War 2 as an
opportunity to make money as a manufacturer. He is a very smart and likeable businessman who
knows how to use his money and charisma to influence others. He manages to start his manufactory
near the Krakow ghetto and uses the inhabitants of it for cheap labor. Schindler changes throughout
the film, starting as selfish and ending up very selfless. His accountant, also a jew, takes hiring as his
responsibility and uses it to save people from being shipped to concentration camps. Schindler is
initially mad at this revelation but soon comes to realize the good it does and allows this to continue
and expand, demonstrating how he changes. Towards the end of the movie, he ends up saving over
eleven hundred jews, and his only regret that brings him to tears is that he feels he could have saved
more. This film demonstrates to me that people are responsible for their own actions, evil is inherent
in this world, and distrust in authority can be good and necessary. I believe people are responsible for
their own actions. I came to believe this for several reasons. When I was growing up, it was common
for my parents to say things to this effect. You get what you deserve and you get out what you put in
were both similar in that regard. The idea was that your actions produce a net result that affects you
and potentially others. My father usually said this to me in regards to being a decent person or playing
football. He drove me to be a better athlete but said I was responsible to work hard. He told me that I
am a result of the decisions I make, that I become my actions. I had observed this for myself in the
real world and came to believe it outright. Personally, I noticed that when I worked harder at school I
got better grades. When I practiced football more, I saw the results and became better. When I
workout, I feel better

Menstrual Taboos On Children s Mental And Physical Health
Menstrual Taboos
In general, menstruation is not seen as an appropriate topic of conversation. People are often
uncomfortable with the very idea of it, and some are even ignorant of its function. Numerous religions
and cultures regard a woman s monthly period as impure, unclean, or even dangerous. The practices
and views resulting from these widespread beliefs can be harmful to women s mental and physical
health, as well as their livelihood and relationships with others. The purpose of this paper is to
examine menstrual taboos in various cultures and throughout history, compare the views of believers
of these ideas with those skeptic of them, and apply this issue to psychology.
Why is it Weird? Viewing menstruation with some amount of ... Show more content on

When impregnation does not occur, the endometrium, along with blood and vaginal discharge, leaves
the uterus through the vagina, and the cycle repeats itself (Hyde DeLamater, 2014). Nothing of this
process indicates any toxicity in women, or any effect on them outside of the physical. It is a monthly
biological cycle that occurs in fertile women to prepare for the possibility of conception, and any
negative view towards it or the women experiencing it has its source in ignorance, fear, or in the
words of books written thousands of years before anyone even had an inkling of how menstruation
works.
History
Without knowing the reason why menstruation occurs, it is a scary idea; a woman, uninjured, begins
to bleed for days from the area of childbirth and intercourse every month. It would be easy to relate
this occurrence, to something mystical and powerful. The vagina itself has been a thing of mystery,
with some cultures considering it to be a channel to the beyond; babies are born through it, and
without knowledge of how they develop, some believed that newborns simply came from another
plane of existence (Magli, 2009, p. 91). The belief that a woman s body holds a portal to some other
world makes it frightening and possibly dangerous, and many traditions have manifested in an attempt
to control this supposed power, such as infibulation (cutting the labia so when the tissue heals, it
creates a barrier over the vaginal opening) and separation of women

Dementia Care And The Importance Of Daily Routine Essay
Dementia Care and the Importance of Daily Routine Dementia robs a person of their ability to plan or

Reflection Paper On Figure Skating
The second my feet lifted off the soap caked floor, I felt different. The skin on my neck was tingling,
adrenaline was racing through my body, and my bones were engaged in a newfound excitement. My
mother was wrong. The bathroom floor is a fun place to go figure skating on soap suds. My sister,
Emily, and I began our skating journey at Kent State University, where we had been enrolled in Learn
To Skate classes for as long as we could remember. Spinning circles faster than a horse around the
kitchen table in our socks was a common occurrence. We were perpetually moving.
Thus, it should not have been a surprising event when one lazy Saturday morning, Emily and I were
sitting around playing dolls as we waited for our parents to wake up. For a six and nine year with the
energy of a small volcano, it was as boring as sitting and watching paint dry. It is my Achilles heel to
cause trouble when my mind is not stimulated, so I ventured off down the hall into the bathroom to
see if there would be anything interesting to do there. My sister grabbed my hand and pulled me into a
somewhat tangled, clumsy dance that was supposed to represent the figure skating we did at Kent. We
couldn t have looked much better than the Cleveland Browns playing football, but for us, we felt as if
we would be going to the Olympics in figure skating within the next few weeks. However, spinning
around in our socks eventually grew tiring, as well, so we looked for a way to make the bathroom

To this day no scientific tests have been done to support the existence of ADHD. As it stands the
diagnostic criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder are essentially reflective of normal
childhood behavior. The behaviors that someone needs to elicit in order to be categorized with
attention deficit hyperactive disorder, include behaviors such as: often has difficulties organizing tasks
and activities ; often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental
effort ; often loses things necessary for tasks or activities ; is often on the go ; often talks excessively ;
and often interrupts or intrudes on others (American Psychiatric Association, 2014). These criteria for
ADHD are found in most children but not all children have Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder.
The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has taken normal behaviors of a child and
reclassified them to be characterized into a disorder. If psychiatry was against pathologizing normal
behavior then disorders like ADHD which are essentially just descriptions of normal childhood
behavior would be eliminated. Children would therefore be put on medication less often and therefore
would lead to less serious disorders based off of the findings of Whitaker. Attention Deficit
Hyperactive Disorder is

All Summer In A Day By Ray Bradbury
All Summer in a Day By Ray Bradbury is about a group of children who lives on a planet called
Venus. Bradbury uses a variety of metaphors so the reader can imagine a life on venus. On this planet
the sun only appears for only a few hours once every seven years. The children have very vague
memory about the sun because they were far too young to remember what the sun was like except,
Margot who remembers the sun very clear, because she lived in Ohio until she was five. Margot tells
the other children that the sun is round like a penny and hot like a fire in the stove. The children didn t
believe her and didn t understand why she loved the sun so much. The other children envy Margot
because of her very clear and precise memories about the

Humans Have Found Many Different Ways To Communicate...
Humans have found many different ways to communicate throughout time. In the early days of
civilization humans would use hand signals and drawings to communicate with others. As civilization
progressed, so did the methods of communication. This is evident by the number of languages that are
used on planet earth. According to the website infoplease.com there are around 6,500 different
languages spoken in the world. This is simply astounding the number of different languages spoken.
However, speaking is not the only way humans communicate. Humans even sometimes communicate
without even knowing. A prime example of this is body language which some could argue is used
every day, by just about everyone on the planet. With this said there is one ... Show more content on

The main strength of the Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the simple fact that the theory has been
used and applied for nearly four decades. It is mainly used to gain insight into interpersonal
relationships. In the very beginning of a relationship the Uncertainty Reduction Theory can give
critical incite, however this is also one of the theories weaknesses. Once the relationship is past the
initial interaction, the first time the stranger s meat, the Uncertainty Reduction Theory can no longer
provide insight into the relationship. A second weakness of the Uncertainty Reduction Theory is the
fact that the theory was meanly developed and designed the western culture. However, there are more
and more studies that are beginning to apply the Uncertainty Reduction Theory and look further into
its practical uses outside of western culture. Here is an example of one such study:
A model of uncertainty reduction theory was tested that was derived from Berger and Calabrese s
(1975) theory of initial interactions and recent extensions of the theory (e.g., Berger, 1979; Berger
Bradac, 1982) across three relationships (acquaintances, friends, and dates) in three cultures: Japan,
Korea, and the United States. The model was tested using LISREL and found to be a reasonable fit to
the data for all three relationships in all three cultures. The percentage of variance explained in
attributional confidence was found to be lower for friends than for

The Colonialization Of North America During The Colonial...
North America during the Colonial period had resources the Europeans dreamed about. For example,
the mighty Mississippi River for trading and transportation, the pine trees for lumber, and the rich soil
in the south for growing crops. The Europeans saw the potential of economic opportunity in North
America. The Native Americans viewed North America as sacred and took care of their land as much
as possible. When the Europeans arrived, the deer population plummeted due to the need of meat from
the Europeans. The New England colonists realized that the soil in New England was unreliable
because of the unfertile soil and the weather. When the Europeans came to North America, they
carried numerous diseases with them. Keep in mind that the Europeans traveled by ship for months
and some ships had an infestation of rats and mosquitoes. Vaccinations did not exist during the
Exploration years so, explorers and the Natives had diseases of small pox, pneumonia, and yellow
fever. The Native Americans were dying by the numbers because of the European diseases that they
came into contact with the Europeans. Several Native American tribes had healers which the
Europeans thought were Doctors. The Native Americans used nuts, berries, and certain plants to heal
either a snakebite, scratch, wounds from animal attacks, and skin diseases. The Europeans thought that
some of the Indian practices were witchcraft because of the heavy European Christian beliefs. The
Native Americans actually helped to cure several European diseases. When the first Colonists of
Virginia arrived, the population was declining because of the disease and starvation. As time went on,
the immigrants from Europe began to increase due to the Civil War, crowded population, or famine.
The Europeans tasted other different food sources that the Native Americans had grown such as,
pumpkins, potatoes, beans, corn, tomatoes, and squash. These crops were foreign to the Europeans.
The Native Americans used food as a peace offering to the Europeans as a sign of hospitality. The
trade between the Europeans and the Indians were challenging according to the Europeans. Some of
the Native Americans were open to trading and exchanging ideas to the Europeans. As long as

Aviation Centered Spatial Development And The Regional...
LITERATURE REVIEW
The literature in this field centers on on the different land use theories that would be applicable to
aviation centered spatial development. The early theorictial concepts of airport development focused
on the regional development of the Central Business District (CBDs) where airports were often
located on the outlining areas of cities. Land use around airports was not viewed as an integral
component in the economic vitality of urban planning. Early land use theories included: Concentric
Zone Theory Burgess (1925) which stated that cities grew outwards from the centre in a series of
rings; the Sector Model Hoyt (1939) which detailed that city growth sectors radiated out from the
CBD along transport routes; and Multiple Nuclei Theory Harris and Ullman (1945) which expounded
that as an urban area grows, it develops around a number of different business centres or nuclei. Each
nucleus acts as a growth point to which growth occurs outwards from each nucleus, until they all
merge into one large urban area.
The most influential land use theory for airport centered spatial development was that of the Single
Nulcei Theory. This theory, although similar to that of Multiple Nuclei Theory, instead of sprouting
from several economic catalysts, had one primary catalyst serve as the central source of outward
growth for the larger outlining or urban area. All these theories served as precursors for my research,
as the airport city and aerotropolis

Women s Rights Activist Analysis
Many women s rights activists have been at the forefront of confronting domestic violence and other
issues affecting women. Due to the government s suspicion of large scale protests and rallies, many
activists rely on creatively presenting their activism as art, which does not require as many people
participating in such demonstrations and arouses less attention by the government. China requires
many NGOs to work with official government organizations such as the All China Women s
Federation. However, realizing the need for a more grassroots approach rather than an imposed top
down approach, many activists take activism into their own hands. For example, Li Maizi and a group
of women wore white wedding gowns splattered with fake blood in Beijing

Virtual Field Trip to Mono Lake
Virtual Field Trip to Mono Lake It is one of the strangest lakes in all of the United States. Other than
the great Salt Lake itself in Utah, Mono Lake in Northern California is one of the biggest and saltiest
lakes in the entire country. The lake itself can be seen from space, and presents its own very unique
biological habitat for creatures that live in some of the harshest conditions. No matter the fact that the
water is undrinkable, the lake is n astonishing place in terms of both the wildlife that thrives there and
the geographic features that define it. Today, the lake and its surrounding terrain are a very interesting
site to behold. It is, in fact, the largest lake that is completely inside the state of California at over 70
square miles in size (Foss 1). It is also one of the oldest lakes and ecosystems here in the United
States. The lake itself is now almost completely uninhabitable by most marine life, as the salt levels in
the water are far too high to be able to sustain fish populations. Still. There is an abundance of aquatic
life, even though the salts levels are too high to sustain the normal fish populations that are found in
other surrounding lakes in the Eastern Sierra Mountain ranges near by. The lake is now a prime
breeding ground for a very small number of species. Brine shrimp and the brine flies that feed off their
larva are the dominant groups in the salty lake. Today, Mono lake is actually one of the most

The Effects Of Sleep On Sleep Pattern
Everyone knows sleep is important. But what most people don t know is that if you do not have a
healthy sleep pattern, you do not get the proper benefits. Your sleep pattern is your daily rhythms of
sleeping and waking. It is best to try and keep a consistent bedtime and wake up time. Signs that you
are experiencing a disruptive sleep pattern are difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings during the
night, and/or waking too early. For example, I know I have a disruptive sleep schedule because I
cannot stay asleep and I wake too early. Falling asleep is easy for me, but I always awaken somewhere
between 1 and 4. Sometimes I can fall back asleep within 10 20 minutes, but other nights I am up for
hours. Because of this more often than not I am awake before my alarm. Impaired sleep can cause a
lot of side effects, which I will explain in the next paragraph. There is an abundance of things that can
impair your sleep, many of which can be easily avoided. For instance, today s society is completely
overrun by technology. Almost everything can be done via computer, smartphone or tablet. Thus, we
are constantly using them. Studies show that the use of technology can significantly impair your
ability to sleep. Experts say you should stop using technology at least 2 hours before bed, yet the
majority of people bring their phones to bed with them. This causes many people to become over
stimulated, causing sleep problems. Other things that can impair your quality of sleep are

1. What are at least two facts presented by each side of the critical issue? Devilly Cotton who

psychological debriefing . . . more of a moral maintenance intervention qua gesture of employer

What are some of the weaknesses?
I believe the strength of Davilly and Cotton was that they took the time to define and try to show the
differences between Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Critical Incident Stress Management. As
well as defining what psychology debriefing entails.
Their weakness would be it was how to read, it did not flow easy for the readers and somewhat
confusing. Also another weakness which was pointed out by Mitchell was that they did not seem to do
much deep research for other papers written on the topic.
5. How credible were the authors of each argument? Explain your answer.
Davilly Cotton when to detail on what psychological debriefing was and how there are many different
forms of it with: Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Critical Incident Stress Management. Also
how these two really kind of play hand in hand and might be the same thing. Therefore it is hard to tell
the difference between the two. They tried to break down how these two systems work and the
outcomes of such programs.
Mitchell was credible in from the first paragraph notes that In 1983 I wrote the first article ever
written on Critical Incident Stress Debriefing. . . (Halgin, 2009, p. 78). Uses the programs during an
event rather than after.

Comparing Justice In Electra And Sophocles
Sophocles s Electra focuses mainly on the justifications of some actions, Sophocles sees justice as the
most important thing that leads to the actions of others. Herodotus is nearly the exact opposite. He
seems to not see any importance with justice, within The Histories he shows that the most important
thing when writing is showing what caused certain events to happen, as well as evidence to both sides
of the story, allowing the reader to decide what really happened. Although these two texts and their
authors seem to be completely different, they do share similarities. They both try to decide and show
how and why things happened; the causation of events. Sophocles shows justice as the only cause of
all events while Herodotus tries to show all the possibilities and sides of historical ... Show more

In today s world, justice is defined simply as The process or result of using laws to fairly judge and
punish crimes and criminals. However, Sophocles helps to show that justice, in the time of Electra, is
constituted by anything that is deemed as honorable. At the beginning of the play, Orestes states,
When I went to the oracle of Apollo, to discover how best to take revenge for my father revenge on his
killers that is my right and due here s what Apollo said: Place not your trust in an army s sword or
shield. Use cunning. Kill them yourself and justly so (4). In making this speech, Orestes shows how
justice, in this case revenging someone s murder, is seen as a very honorable act in this time period.
There are other examples of Sophocles view of justice within his play. The two main acts of justice are
that Sophocles focus on are: the murder of King Agamemnon, by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover
Aegisthus, the other, the main focus of the play, the murder of Clytemnestra and Aegisthus for
murdering King Agamemnon. However, can these acts really be seen as

City Council Case Study
Attending the last City Council meeting in University City reminded how petty and vile people can be.
Implored to attend by a couple of well heeled politicians, a not so representative group of U City
residents took turns attacking our mayor, Shelley Welsch. It would be good to remember that Mayor
Welsch ran virtually unchallenged in her bid for a second term as Mayor. During her previous bid for
mayor she defeated Councilman Crow. In a recent Post article, distinctions between human error and
an entirely different intentional act, such as the email communication sent from Crow to the
representative of the IAFF (International Association of Firefighters) which is suing the City were
omitted. With the help of Council members Carr and Crow, the Post has attributed a number of
negatives to U City, including the functioning of our Council. There are 6 Council members in U City
and 4 of them often, though not exclusively, vote the same way our mayor does. According to a

Investors believe in their idea and business model, and everybody admires their inspiration. What

In other words, after receiving funds, startup teams have lost their interest to their business started

Unfortunately, even there s a short peak of productivity, it often goes down soon. Like in experiment

wanes quickly.
What if investors trying to minimize their risks are giving very little funds, exactly as much as
business support requires but not more? Experiments by Heyman amp; Ariely (2004) found that low
monetary payment decreases effort relative to no payment.
To my opinion, the key reasons of change in behavior are the following: 1) funds given are adding
market factor to the team s activity, 2) people don t have a fear to loose investors funds (they burn that
money before the business will be considered as success or failure), 3) they don t have a feeling of
social attachment and personal responsibility and perceive investor as a person on the other side of

What we can do to reduce an impact of this problem? First of all, investors should try to build long

could have never imagined the extent to which the technological progression of social media would

The Teacher Or Educator Workforce Very Interesting
I find the topic of the teacher or educator workforce very interesting. From reading the readings on
this topic I found this information very informative and I agree with a lot of the information that was
presented. The topic really was personal for me because I m at a point in my education career where I
m considering changing careers completely. Reading about the data presented in the readings was very
interesting to me because I could really relate on a personal level.
The first topic that I read that stood out the most to me was the topic of explaining the decline in
teacher aptitude in the United States. Something that stood out to me was that the pay for aptitude will
push high aptitude workers out of the education field. I believe this is true because I know a lot of
people who go into education and then after 3 to 4 years they decide that they are just not making
enough money and they believe strongly that they can be doing something else that pays more money
and will give them a higher quality of life. I also found it interesting that unionization drove high
aptitude women in to the field of law or out of teaching. Before reading this article I would have
guessed that unionization would help keep teachers with high and low aptitude. Working in education
in the state of Michigan the teachers are really supportive of their union so the fact about unionization
effecting teacher job rates was very surprising to me. Overall I feel that people who have a high

The Empire Strikes Back
I am currently a Film Production MFA student at Full Sail University. As a child I went to see The

It is with this intention that I want to create films.
As my knowledge of filmmaking started to grow, I began learning about story plots and character

Arachnophobia is the all encompassing fear of spiders. If you are like most people, you have at least a
touch of the phobia. While you might not have an irrational fear like those who suffer with the
condition, you likely don t care much for the small, eight legged arachnids. That makes you normal.
Thankfully, though, in South Carolina there are very few spiders that can do you any actual harm.
They are the most terrifying spiders found in the Carolinas:
The Black Widow:
You are probably familiar with the black widow s appearance. It has an almost glossy sheen to its
body and has an hourglass shaped red mark on the underside of its abdomen. The made widow spider
is smaller than the female version and rarely bite. The more aggressive females bite more often but
still will usually bite only in defense. The most common reason for them to attack is if they are
guarding eggs or laying eggs.
The female black widow prefers to spin her silken web in a protected space, such as under decks,
house steps or stones. They are rarely found inside of houses. The black widow bite produces sharp
pain that typically lasts for hours, resulting in localized muscle cramps. The pain can become severe

Disadvantages Of Drinking Water Bottles
Littering is another problem with these bottles. When people get done using them they just throw them

just bottles in general are a big cause on the environment. Although many people do not care, littering
causes a lot of harm to the environment and not many people realize it. Even though drinking bottle
water is widely known as a good choice for your health it comes with great conflicts. Many schools all
around sell bottles of water out of vending machines, although this can be a bad thing for the
environment, but it also helps students from drinking sugary soda. Even though there are benefits to
drinking and using bottled water, there are also many drawbacks. Bottled water can be healthy, but
also just drinking from a water fountain can help yourself and the environment. Not many people want
to drink community fountains because of the germs and all the people that use them. Even though
water is a great need for humans, they normally want to go the easy way; the bottled water way. Water

Comparing The Television Series Mad Men
Traditional Gender Ideology in the 1960 s
Before 1994 gender role attitudes were not seen as egalitarian. In fact, society was nowhere near to
accepting the fact that men and women are equal. Traditional ideologies during this time was that men
go to work to support the household and women stay home to manage the household by cooking and
cleaning. Although these stereotypes were the status quote; the women of the 1960 s were trying to
breakdown those stereotypical doors. I chose the television series Mad Men because it gives an inside

Yet, there were also many women in the 1960 s who were done with the traditional stereotypes.
Although there were women s movements happening before the 1960 s, like the suffrage movement,
the movements became more prominent and demanding for change. Referring to Mad Men, the series
used perfect example as to how women were trying to break that glass ceiling in the workforce. Even
though Peggy Olsen and Joan Holloway were total opposites, they sought out the same dream. Which
was to be a part of something bigger than being a secretary to an office full of corporate men. They
both fought for equal rights and took a stand on feminism. Like Peggy and Joan, women in the real

Along, with the movements, there was a shift in the category based expectancy of women and their
sex lives. Sex was not being discussed on television, in the home, and sometimes not even between
husband and wife. Along with movements came the controversy of sex in the 1960 s. In Mad Men
Joan was considered a woman if the night. She struggled with the criticism of reproductive health

of the surrounding characters, the reader comes to the conclusion that the Bronx is a place filled with
the stereotypical type of New York inhabitants it is known for harboring. Likewise, we also see that
Oswald is a somewhat normal child who has his own problems and quirks until we are introduced to
his personal obsessions. Instead of getting a glimpse of his inner thoughts, his feelings are instead
revealed during his fun time. Humans can feel the same way, but rarely ever think the same way. So

Summary Of Tchaikovsky s The Nutcracker And Stravinsky
Tchaikovsky s The Nutcracker and Stravinsky s Rite of Spring are two of the most influential ballets
to ever be recorded. Their ballets have been played and duplicated for many years. I will start this
paper with a summary of each composer which will include where they are from culturally,
geographically and musically. Then I talk about each ballet. Where it was written, the story behind
each piece, and its reception now and its reception at the time it was published. I will also include the
popularity of each ballet in other forms such as Disney. Finally, I will provide a detailed concert report
of each ballet.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born April 25, 1840, in Votkinsk, Russia. Tchaikovsky was the second
of six born children. He started composing when he was four years old. When he was in his teens his
mother died. It was at this point that his dad realized that his son had a talent in music. So he sent him
off to St. Petersburg Conservatory. After graduating from there he moved to Moscow to teach music
theory at the Russian Musical Society. He did not really like teaching, however, he developed a
relationship with Nikolay Rubinstein and this is where he started composing symphonies. In his mid
years of his life, he traveled Europe showing off all his beautiful pieces of music. He even traveled to
the U.S. to attend the opening of Carnegie Hall. He ended his life living near Moscow and composed
music until the day he died. He is the most popular Russian composer of

The Importance Of Correct Diagnosis At Early Stage
As a kid I used to help my father in farming at our farm. One season we didn t get our wheat crop as
expected. My father thought it is due to poor rain that season. So, next year he made sure that we do
proper watering using tube well. Again the crop was poor. We put a lot of effort and did everything we
could do for next couple of years as farming was our only source of income. But, the crop was getting
worse with every season. Finally, we consulted with local agriculture officer to find out that alkaline
level in our soil has been increasing rapidly and is adversely affecting our crop. If we knew it earlier
we could have avoid losing crop for several years. It is when I realized the importance of correct
diagnosis at early stage. This infused my interest in doing correct diagnose and finding the root cause
of problem in every life situation. This interest, along with my love for research, labs, and medicine,
has grown many folds over the years. Today, I can say that pathology is my only career interest.
As a pathologist, I will strive to incorporate all the skills that I have acquired through academic, work,
and life experiences in my practice. My demonstrated commitment to volleyball has helped me in
building skills that I can utilize in my career as a pathologist. I represented my medical school
volleyball team at the annual All India competition for four years. In order to excel in the game, I went
through rigorous practice sessions where I observed experienced

Charlie Gordon s Success In Daniel Keyes Flowers For Algernon
A study was done on aIntellectual disable person to enhance his intelligence. The experiment had a
positive feedback, but after months, it resulted for the individual to go back to his original state. In the
novel, Flowers for Algernon, by Daniel Keyes, this brilliant operation was done on Charlie Gordon.
Slowly after the operation, Charlie became extremely bright, but experienced more loneliness, and
physiological sadness. In the past, Charlie thought intelligence would mean that he would be normal
and would gain many friends. The reason why he was so determined to do this operation we to be
accepted by society. The theme of loneliness is expressed though the quote, The more intelligent you
become the more problems you ll have, Charlie. Your intellectual growth is going to outstrip your
emotional growth. And I think you ll find that as you progress, there will be many things you ll want
to talk to me about (Keyes 47). This quotation foreshadows the irony of what happen to Charlie, and
focuses on the need for balance between emotion and intellect. Charlie Gordon was determined to
become smart so that he can gain skills and make friends so that he would not reach his ultimate fear
of loneliness. In spite of that, he decided to go an operation that changed his mindset and ... Show

and would yell at them. Most people stayed away from him because he was becoming a madman and
they were afraid of what he was capable of. Because of this, Charlie became lonely. In essence,
Charlie struggled with basic social skills, which means he did not know how to deal with his peers and
decisions. Therefore, after the operation, Charlie may have become a very intelligent human being but
he had to pay the price for it. He went through psychological traumas, which lead to his worst fear of

Total Quality Management (TQM) is a long term process the involves commitment, at all employee

to present quality goods or services that satisfy internal and external customers need and

Philip Crosby, Genichi Taguchi, and Kaoru Ishikawa (Boyer and Verma, 2010). In spite of differences

One team, in particular, Physics Abridged, may not have won but the team members have definitely learned more lessons any other team. This team began its trek to greatness by conducting several hours of academic research. In fact, the group had at least fifteen sources. In the first research phase, the team amassed ten sources; however, Terence felt as if that was not enough, so he researched more in depth to understand the Trusses that his team would be using. This resulted in what the group could label as some of the best research ever conducted for the Bridge Project; however, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. Social Status And Social Class In The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby was published in 1925 and it revolves around class and money. Social status and class difference are two important themes of the novel and the characters are given their power and impact by the class they belong to giving them various advantages and disadvantages. Different characters are from different social classes in the novel. Tom Buchanan and Daisy belonged to the upper class, Nick Caraway belonged to the middle class and the Wilson s were part of the lower class. Gatsby had the wealth to be part of the upper class but he was not. Social class is the status they have in the society and this is what separates the characters and differentiates their behavior. She leaves Gatsby with his car knowing he will get into trouble as it is his car but she does not care. Gatsby has no choice but to take the blame on himself as he truly loves Daisy and this leads to his death as Wilson tracked the owner of the car that killed his wife and kills Gatsby as the car belongs to him and Wilson thinks he killed Myrtle. This carelessness by Daisy leads to 3 deaths as Wilson also kills himself after killing Gatsby. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up their mess (Fitzgerald 167). United Parcel Service, Inc., the Supreme Court issued a decision and framework on how to resolve a disparate discrimination claim under the Pregnancy Discrimination Act (PDA). Here below follows a summary of the case facts and analysis of the Courts decision and its implications. Summary of The Facts Peggy Young, the petitioner, worked as a part time driver for United Parcel Services, Inc. (UPS). In 2006, after suffering several miscarriages, Young became pregnant, and her doctor advised her to not lift more than 20 pounds during the first 20 weeks of her pregnancy or more than 10 pounds thereafter. How much of a liability would it have been for UPS to temporarily accommodate pregnant employees, when it already accommodated a larger group? As Justice Breyer put it, why, when the employer accommodated so many, could it not accommodate pregnant women as well? Can company policies less favorably to pregnant employees be a sign of sex inequality, as pregnancy only affects women? How could UPS accommodate a driver who lost their DOT certification (because of a failed medical exam, lost driver s license, or involvement in a motor vehicle accident all of which I consider can be a result of personal decisions outside the job), yet it puts pressure on women to make a decision between pregnancy and their ability to remain ... • 5. An Analysis Of Stephen J. Dubner s The Book This non fiction book was written by an economist at the University of Chicago, Steven Levitt, and a New York Times journalist, Stephen J. Dubner. The book is written in a manner of self help in which readers themselves, who are after innovation in business and marketing, are able to incentivize and persuade the people. The main message focuses on making decisions and choices appealing to a larger group that could have once started off as a decision to be of one s own private benefit. In order, to think like a Freak as Dubner and Levitt put it, one must first be able to put away their moral compass . This is considered the thought processes of oneself that are vague, for they are biased by the views of the persons on what would be the right thing to do according to their political, religious, or ethical outlook. However, when thinking like a freak one must be in an economic sense. People who do not put away their moral guiding will already have a plan on what to do that may not be the most beneficial or it can even be harmful. The authors also emphasize on the three words of I don t know . By using this phrase one can literally put of what they do not know to dig in, and after doing the research and gathering necessary they would be able to disperse their knowledge. For adults this is hard to say because the moral compass is what creates a clear distinction between the right and the wrong, but this can lead to a lack of learning more about the topic or situation. ... With the Western half controlled by the Bashar al Assad government and the Eastern half in controlled by anti government rebels bloodshed always lingers. For years, power has shifted between the two sides with many outside forces joining, tipping the power balances. With no end in sight, massive loss of life is becoming a universal issue. Inspired by the Arab Spring, revolution was on the horizon in Syria. Fed up with the government control, rebels have rallied against the government. In nearly five years of armed conflict the civil war in Syria has claimed nearly 470,000 lives: 400,000 through direct violence and an additional 70,000 as an indirect result of the war. A governmental regime which uses terrorists tactics is one that should be looked at as a threat. The president of Syria, Bashar Al Assad, has carried out a siege against his own civilians in Aleppo trapping them from the rest of the world. Depriving nearly 250,000 people of food, water, and supplies while bombing them on a daily basis is simply inhumane (UN News Centre). The government has gone to the point of using chemical weapons on their own civilians, killing many men, women, and children. Peter Medak (Medak) chose to make this film because it had an interesting story line. Medak might have wanted to prove that the justice system makes mistake and sometimes those mistakes cannot be fixed, like the mistake or the Derek Bentley (Bentley) and Christopher Craig (Craig) case, where someone was hanged for a miss interpretation of evidence. Film directors like Medak use bias as their strong point; it keeps the viewers attention on the movie and begins to get the viewers to imagine what they would do in the situation. The film is set in the 1950 s Britain. Bentley and Craig, two teenagers, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The opening scene of the blitz during world war II where Bentley is trapped under rubble, as soon as they lift the rubble of the see Bentley having an epileptic fit, we already sympathise for Bentley, during this scene Medak zooms in onto Bentley during the fit and reduces the volume of the background and concentrates on the sound of Bentley. This opening scene is very effective; at this point Medak has already gained our sympathy for Bentley as we he is a child who suffers from epilepsy. In our minds we see a stereotype of a child being innocent. This scene is bias as it features on Bentley only and not on any other characters so we straightaway feel sorry for him. We see no one else s troubles apart from Bentley s, he emphasises on Bentley s innocence. This automatically makes you question why it had to be him and not someone without an illness. Singapore then Prime Minister proposed that the press should support national goals and he states that: we want mass media to reinforce, not undermine, the cultural values and social attitudes being inculcated in out school and universities (Lee, 1971). • 12. How Did Eli Whitney Impact The Invention Of The Cotton Gin American society was hugely impacted by Eli Whitney s invention of the cotton gin because it changed the way cotton was separated, in turned made cotton production easier and made cotton plantations spread across the South. This increased the need for slavery and caused a bigger wedge between the North and the South. In the South, during the late 1700 s, tobacco became a less lucrative crop, and it also laid waste to the land robbing it of nutrients. Other crops of the period, hardly made any profit for the southern plantation owners. It was then believed that the slave was no longer earning enough for the landowner to pay for the upkeep and the end to slavery may have been near until a little invention changed all that. The cotton gin was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A direct effect of the cotton gin was the need for more slaves to pick cotton since it was so easy to separate, they now could work in volume. Consequently, more cotton crops caused more demand for cheap labor and the role of slaves. Even though, the invention of the cotton gin decreased the amount of labor, that was needed to separate the cotton from the seed, the caused an increase in the cotton crops across the South. This provided a need for more slaves to pick those crops. After the Proclamation of 1763 had been nullified, the land west of the Appalachians began to be settled as well as the land from the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. The new, rich land began to be worked for the new cash crop of cotton as well as the increased demand for slaves to cultivate the soil and pick the cotton. From 1790 to 1808 the South brought in 80,000 more slaves before the Act Prohibiting Importation of Slaves outlined in the Constitution came into effect January 1, 1808. • 14. Analysis Of The Awakening In Chopin s novel, The Awakening, she writes about a woman s desire to find and live fully within her true self during the 1890s in Louisiana. The woman, Edna Pontellier, is trying to find herself in the masculine society of Louisiana, leading her to cause friction with friends, family and the Creole society. Edna begins to feel a change; she begins to feel like a whole person with wants, interests and desires. She learns that she is not comfortable with being a wife and mother. The imagery of the parrot in the cage in Chopin s novel is being compared to Edna because it represents Edna s unspoken feelings and imprisonment. The sense of unspoken feelings and imprisonment of Edna causes her to put her own needs before her family. As Edna finds herself trying to satisfy the Creole society, she begins to feel isolated and confused. Through Edna s trace of freedom, she begins to undergo a transformation of self, slowly straying away from society, and taking control over her own actions and beliefs. Through obstacles to Edna s freedom, she learns that she does have control of her own body. The symbolism of the birds and the sea is used to symbolize Edna s struggle for independence. Chopin s character Edna Pontellier in The Awakening represents a caged bird that is not able act on how she feels. The deceptive Iago uses these dangerous blemishes in Othello s personality to manipulate the moral Othello, using his one fatal flaw, jealousy. However, this is ironic as the people of Venice accepted Othello as a righteous and valiant general in the army, due to his brave act of protecting the Venetians from the evil grasp of the Turkish people. Interestingly enough, these Venetians don t compare Othello to the supposedly iniquitous Turks because he had defeated them, so they placed him higher up in the hierarchy of racial and social class. Iago expresses his own opinion that Othello is an erring barbarian which is very ironic as Othello has the status of a shielding warrior, a generous being that is a strong part of the army. Roderigo calls him the lascivious Moor and tends to see Othello s black colour as a sign of dirtiness and obscenity. The characters in Othello may possible have felt that Othello was a threat due to his otherness in his appearance, such as his thick lips . • 16. Reflection Of Schindler s List It can be quite difficult to describe how you view the world around you. A way to do just that could be to analyze how you view a specific film or piece of literature, describe how it makes you feel, and see what that says about you as a person. As such, I will analyze my view on the movie, Schindler s List , one of my favorite movies. The movie is about Oskar Schindler who uses World War 2 as an opportunity to make money as a manufacturer. He is a very smart and likeable businessman who knows how to use his money and charisma to influence others. He manages to start his manufactory near the Krakow ghetto and uses the inhabitants of it for cheap labor. Schindler changes throughout the film, starting as selfish and ending up very selfless. His accountant, also a jew, takes hiring as his responsibility and uses it to save people from being shipped to concentration camps. Schindler is initially mad at this revelation but soon comes to realize the good it does and allows this to continue and expand, demonstrating how he changes. Towards the end of the movie, he ends up saving over eleven hundred jews, and his only regret that brings him to tears is that he feels he could have saved more. This film demonstrates to me that people are responsible for their own actions, evil is inherent in this world, and distrust in authority can be good and necessary. I believe people are responsible for their own actions. I came to believe this for several reasons. When I was growing up, it was common for my parents to say things to this effect. You get what you deserve and you get out what you put in were both similar in that regard. The idea was that your actions produce a net result that affects you and potentially others. My father usually said this to me in regards to being a decent person or playing football. He drove me to be a better athlete but said I was responsible to work hard. He told me that I am a result of the decisions I make, that I become my actions. I had observed this for myself in the real world and came to believe it outright. Personally, I noticed that when I worked harder at school I got better grades. When I practiced football more, I saw the results and became better. When I workout, I feel better ... When impregnation does not occur, the endometrium, along with blood and vaginal discharge, leaves the uterus through the vagina, and the cycle repeats itself (Hyde DeLamater, 2014). Nothing of this process indicates any toxicity in women, or any effect on them outside of the physical. It is a monthly biological cycle that occurs in fertile women to prepare for the possibility of conception, and any negative view towards it or the women experiencing it has its source in ignorance, fear, or in the words of books written thousands of years before anyone even had an inkling of how menstruation works. History Without knowing the reason why menstruation occurs, it is a scary idea; a woman, uninjured, begins to bleed for days from the area of childbirth and intercourse every month. It would be easy to relate this occurrence, to something mystical and powerful. The vagina itself has been a thing of mystery, with some cultures considering it to be a channel to the beyond; babies are born through it, and without knowledge of how they develop, some believed that newborns simply came from another plane of existence (Magli, 2009, p. 91). The belief that a woman s body holds a portal to some other world makes it frightening and possibly dangerous, and many traditions have manifested in an attempt to control this supposed power, such as infibulation (cutting the labia so when the tissue heals, it creates a barrier over the vaginal opening) and separation of women ... The skin on my neck was tingling, adrenaline was racing through my body, and my bones were engaged in a newfound excitement. My mother was wrong. The bathroom floor is a fun place to go figure skating on soap suds. My sister, Emily, and I began our skating journey at Kent State University, where we had been enrolled in Learn To Skate classes for as long as we could remember. Spinning circles faster than a horse around the kitchen table in our socks was a common occurrence. We were perpetually moving. Thus, it should not have been a surprising event when one lazy Saturday morning, Emily and I were sitting around playing dolls as we waited for our parents to wake up. For a six and nine year with the energy of a small volcano, it was as boring as sitting and watching paint dry. It is my Achilles heel to cause trouble when my mind is not stimulated, so I ventured off down the hall into the bathroom to see if there would be anything interesting to do there. Pathologizing the normal and increased pharmaceutical use has led to widespread increase of incorrect mental illness diagnosis. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) as defined by the American Psychiatric Association is the standard classification of mental disorders used by mental health professionals in the United States (American Psychiatric Association, 2014). As it stands the diagnostic criteria for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder are essentially reflective of normal childhood behavior. The behaviors that someone needs to elicit in order to be categorized with attention deficit hyperactive disorder, include behaviors such as: often has difficulties organizing tasks and activities ; often avoids, dislikes, or is reluctant to engage in tasks that require sustained mental effort ; often loses things necessary for tasks or activities ; is often on the go ; often talks excessively ; and often interrupts or intrudes on others (American Psychiatric Association, 2014). These criteria for ADHD are found in most children but not all children have Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder. The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders has taken normal behaviors of a child and reclassified them to be characterized into a disorder. If psychiatry was against pathologizing normal behavior then disorders like ADHD which are essentially just descriptions of normal childhood behavior would be eliminated. Children would therefore be put on medication less often and therefore would lead to less serious disorders based off of the findings of Whitaker. Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is ... The children have very vague memory about the sun because they were far too young to remember what the sun was like except, Margot who remembers the sun very clear, because she lived in Ohio until she was five. Margot tells the other children that the sun is round like a penny and hot like a fire in the stove. The children didn t believe her and didn t understand why she loved the sun so much. In the early days of civilization humans would use hand signals and drawings to communicate with others. As civilization progressed, so did the methods of communication. • 23. The Colonialization Of North America During The Colonial... North America during the Colonial period had resources the Europeans dreamed about. For example, the mighty Mississippi River for trading and transportation, the pine trees for lumber, and the rich soil in the south for growing crops. The Europeans saw the potential of economic opportunity in North America. The Native Americans viewed North America as sacred and took care of their land as much as possible. When the Europeans arrived, the deer population plummeted due to the need of meat from the Europeans. The New England colonists realized that the soil in New England was unreliable because of the unfertile soil and the weather. When the Europeans came to North America, they carried numerous diseases with them. Keep in mind that the Europeans traveled by ship for months and some ships had an infestation of rats and mosquitoes. Vaccinations did not exist during the Exploration years so, explorers and the Natives had diseases of small pox, pneumonia, and yellow fever. The Native Americans were dying by the numbers because of the European diseases that they came into contact with the Europeans. Several Native American tribes had healers which the Europeans thought were Doctors. The Native Americans used nuts, berries, and certain plants to heal either a snakebite, scratch, wounds from animal attacks, and skin diseases. The Europeans thought that some of the Indian practices were witchcraft because of the heavy European Christian beliefs. The Native Americans actually helped to cure several European diseases. When the first Colonists of Virginia arrived, the population was declining because of the disease and starvation. As time went on, the immigrants from Europe began to increase due to the Civil War, crowded population, or famine. The Europeans tasted other different food sources that the Native Americans had grown such as, pumpkins, potatoes, beans, corn, tomatoes, and squash. These crops were foreign to the Europeans. The Native Americans used food as a peace offering to the Europeans as a sign of hospitality. The trade between the Europeans and the Indians were challenging according to the Europeans. • 24. Aviation Centered Spatial Development And The Regional... LITERATURE REVIEW The literature in this field centers on on the different land use theories that would be applicable to aviation centered spatial development. The early theorictial concepts of airport development focused on the regional development of the Central Business District (CBDs) where airports were often located on the outlining areas of cities. Land use around airports was not viewed as an integral component in the economic vitality of urban planning. Early land use theories included: Concentric Zone Theory Burgess (1925) which stated that cities grew outwards from the centre in a series of rings; the Sector Model Hoyt (1939) which detailed that city growth sectors radiated out from the CBD along transport routes; and Multiple Nuclei Theory Harris and Ullman (1945) which expounded that as an urban area grows, it develops around a number of different business centres or nuclei. Each nucleus acts as a growth point to which growth occurs outwards from each nucleus, until they all merge into one large urban area. The most influential land use theory for airport centered spatial development was that of the Single Nulcei Theory. This theory, although similar to that of Multiple Nuclei Theory, instead of sprouting from several economic catalysts, had one primary catalyst serve as the central source of outward growth for the larger outlining or urban area. All these theories served as precursors for my research, as the airport city and aerotropolis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

No matter the fact that the water is undrinkable, the lake is n astonishing place in terms of both the wildlife that thrives there and the geographic features that define it. Today, the lake and its surrounding terrain are a very interesting site to behold. It is, in fact, the largest lake that is completely inside the state of California at over 70 square miles in size (Foss 1). It is also one of the oldest lakes and ecosystems here in the United States. The lake itself is now almost completely uninhabitable by most marine life, as the salt levels in the water are far too high to be able to sustain fish populations. Still. There is an abundance of aquatic life, even though the salts levels are too high to sustain the normal fish populations that are found in other surrounding lakes in the Eastern Sierra Mountain ranges near by. • 27. The Effects Of Sleep On Sleep Pattern Everyone knows sleep is important. But what most people don t know is that if you do not have a healthy sleep pattern, you do not get the proper benefits. Your sleep pattern is your daily rhythms of sleeping and waking. It is best to try and keep a consistent bedtime and wake up time. Signs that you are experiencing a disruptive sleep pattern are difficulty falling asleep, frequent awakenings during the night, and/or waking too early. For example, I know I have a disruptive sleep schedule because I cannot stay asleep and I wake too early. Falling asleep is easy for me, but I always awaken somewhere between 1 and 4. Sometimes I can fall back asleep within 10 20 minutes, but other nights I am up for hours. Because of this more often than not I am awake before my alarm. Impaired sleep can cause a lot of side effects, which I will explain in the next paragraph. There is an abundance of things that can impair your sleep, many of which can be easily avoided. For instance, today s society is completely overrun by technology. Almost everything can be done via computer, smartphone or tablet. Thus, we are constantly using them. Studies show that the use of technology can significantly impair your ability to sleep. Experts say you should stop using technology at least 2 hours before bed, yet the majority of people bring their phones to bed with them. This causes many people to become over stimulated, causing sleep problems. Other things that can impair your quality of sleep are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I also found it interesting that unionization drove high aptitude women in to the field of law or out of teaching. Before reading this article I would have guessed that unionization would help keep teachers with high and low aptitude.
