The Mystery Of Detective Fiction
Detective Fiction exists as one of the most popular fiction genres of all time. Detective fiction uses
facts and other details to solve a mystery which surrounds a perplexing murder in a novel. Many
people gain excitement over a challenge or a test of knowledge when solving a puzzle. A puzzle may
baffle or confuse the puzzler; therefore, the puzzler likes to solve the puzzle before the ending. People
enjoy the experience of sheer satisfaction of solving a mystery before ending the literary work.
Curiosity describes itself as the desire to learn or know about anything; inquisitiveness (Dictionary).
Curiosity somehow leads people on the path to try to solve a mystery or a puzzle. It remains a
question of why people desire to solve a puzzle. Maybe their inquisitive mind drives them to solve the
puzzle or a mystery. Often after the reader finishes reading a detective novel and solving the mystery
before the reveal of the murderer, they find this satisfying to their curiosity. Thus they begin to
continue reading more mystery fictional novels. The birth of detective fiction surfaced around the 19th
century (Gaines). The Moonstone novel considered the first detective novel written (Sahni). The novel
created by Wilkie Collins established the ground rules for detective novels. Before the detective
fiction surfaced, many novels conveyed the murderer as the innocent one, instead of the victim as the
innocent one. These works of fiction, unfortunately did not

Mass Reproduction
Mass Reproduction and Cultural Eradication
In the reading The Work of Art in the Age of It s Technological Reproducibility , by W. Benjamin he
expresses his point of view on the loss of the traditional aspect and aura of art that is seen within today
s society. He also speaks about the way that photography has become a device for the mass
reproduction of images and has begun to eliminate this aspect of authenticity that places an image in a
specific place and time. The person that is behind the camera forces people to see what he or she
wants them to see. It changes the moral and traditional conventions that may have once been
associated with an image. In his article he doesn t completely reject this idea of reproduction he also
expands on the idea that although authenticity is an issue, within film you are able to do what
paintings cannot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Adorno and M. Horkheimer s article, The Culture Industry they discuss the way culture has become
commodified and changes the perception of the audience. For example in Hollywood films, many
movies are given various titles but the overall production of the film seems to form a unified and
repetitive outlook. We as the audience begin to lose the cultural aspect and meaning that is associated
with these films. They argue that the commodification of culture has come to form an entirely new
capitalist society that seems to focus on the domination of the medium rather than the nature of
humanities cultural, social and moral values. Both of these articles draw on points of reproduction and
its affect on society, but they also differ in the means of what is being created through this loss of
tradition and aura. Benjamin talks about a new perception being formed through this loss whereas
Adorno and Horkheimer emphasize that this loss of culture is not providing new perceptions of art
through film and photography by the use of the camera, but instead is commodifying the aesthetic
qualities that come to form an

Deregulation of the Airline Industry
Deregulation of the Airline Industry
The airline industry has been subject of intense price competition since it was deregulated, and the
result has been a number of new carriers which specialize in regional service and no frills operations.
These carriers typically purchase older aircraft and often operate outside the industry wide
computerized reservations system. In exchange for these inconveniences, passengers receive low fares
relative to the industry as a whole. This research examines two low fare air carriers, ValuJet and
Southwest Airlines. By investigating these air carriers, we can better understand the economic impacts
of price versus service in the airline industry as a whole, as well as, the impacts on passenger ... Show

Because Southwest s flights are generally an hour or less in length, the airline saves money by not
having to serve meals. It has a liberal work rule arrangement with its unions, so productivity is high,
and overall costs are low.
For example, Southwest gets 672 hours per year on average from pilots versus 371 for American
Airlines pilots, and 60 percent more passenger miles per flight attendant (Levinson, 1993, p. 34).
These figures enable the company to realize profits during years in which the industry as a whole was

What Is The Potion In Romeo And Juliet
One of the scenes that was omitted from the play was when Juliet drinks the potion on the nurse

reaction and response to the situation and then she is taken to the vault which is where dead family
members rest. In the Romeo and Juliet Film by Baz Luhrmann, soon as Juliet drinks the potion a quick
flash back plays and then Juliet is rushed to hospital. Skipping the reaction scene entirely. Baz
Luhrmann did this because this scene wasn t very interesting for younger viewers and is not an
important scene for the storyline. In the original play there is no police force, there is a prince and

Fukushima Nuclear Disaster Research Paper
Prevent Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Disaster
The most extreme way to produce power is by nuclear fission. They do this by splitting single atoms,
Nuclear Energy Institute states ?Nuclear power plants obtain the heat needed to produce steam
through a physical process. This process, called fission, entails the splitting of atoms of uranium in a
nuclear reactor. The uranium fuel consists of small, hard ceramic pellets that are packaged in long,
vertical tubes. Bundles of this fuel are inserted into the reactor.? Power produced this way also has
drawbacks. Producing this kind of power also produces an extreme amount of heat. If the cooling

The reactor was overheating to the point it was emitting radioactive material. The Tokyo Energy
Power Company admitted that they failed to inspect thirty three cooling system equipment for the six
reactors about two weeks before the disaster (NYTimes.com).
The inspection was to see if the Tokyo Energy Power Company could extend the life of the reactors or
to shut them down, which the reactors failed the inspection, but the TEPCO decided to extend the
lives of the reactors according to the NY Times. The NY times also stated ?regulators said that ?
maintenance management was inadequate? and that the ?quality of inspection was insufficient??
(nytimes.com).
The reactors one, two, and three were outdated and soon the rest of the reactors will be outdated. NY

Decision Analysis
Introduction: An important decision that I have had to make recently is making the decision of what
college I will be attending after I finish here at Blue River. Deciding on what college to attend next
involves a few things; it involves more than one good option, uncertainty or chance to the outcomes of
each option, and contains balance. Picking a college is a hard decision. Choosing the right college for
someone has several things to think about when deciding where you will finish school, such as the
school being to far or to close to home, does it have the major you want to study, what s the food like,
are you playing a sport while attending school, tuition, along with several other factors. The things
that are most important to me when deciding on the next college are tuition, soccer team, good
financial aid options and if they have the major of sports management.

The Balancing Act of Adult Life Essay
The Balancing Act of Adult Life
Life in the 21st century seems more complex than ever, as adults cope with the demands of multiple
roles, the stresses of a fluid workplace, and the pressures of child and elder care. Individuals feel
compelled to update their work related knowledge and skills and to keep up with the proliferation of
information. Family resource management is increasingly complex, with expanded choices and
decisions that must be made about utilities, banking, investments, retirement planning, etc. The
Internet has simultaneously made it easier to access information, yet more complicated to apply
critical judgment to what one finds. Many of us feel, as Kegan (1994) put it, in over our heads as we

This Digest describes a selection of adult education approaches to helping individuals negotiate the
curriculum of life challenges.
Beyond Life Skills
In the 1990s, work/life balance caught the attention of researchers, policymakers, and employers,
resulting in the development of a range of employment benefits, legislation, and programs aimed at
helping people cope. Life management or family/career management curricula emphasize coping
through the development of skills in communication, interpersonal effectiveness, and money, time,
stress, and household management (e.g., California Community Colleges 1998; Mathieson 1999). As
Caproni (1997) notes, research, policy, and practice focused on work/life balance have raised
important issues and brought about changes that have benefitted some families. However, these
approaches are incomplete in several ways.
As Niles et al. (2001) point out, the usefulness of these types of responses benefits different segments
of society differently. For the working poor, balancing work, nonwork, and life roles may be a luxury;
they are likely to be far more circumspect in how they can commit their resources to family needs (p.
13). Caproni (1997) suggests that the discourse of work/life balance reflects bureaucratic values such
as individualism, instrumentalism, goal focus, and

Sostratus Lighthouse
The most outstanding was the creation of Sostratus from Cnidus (III century BC) a sea lighthouse on
the island of Pharos near Alexandria, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World (it
has not survived to our time). It is a three tier tower 120 m high: its base was square, the middle tier
had the shape of an octagon, and the upper tier was a round structure with statues that adorned it. At
the top of the lighthouse, equipped with metal mirrors, the fire was constantly maintained. The
lighthouse served as both an observation post and a fortress. The nature of the planning of Hellenistic
cities was distinguished by strict order. The straightforwardness of the sometimes wide streets, from

In order to protect the Hellenistic cities not only had powerful fortifications, but were sometimes
divided into quarters, with their own defensive walls. Sometimes for the safety of the rural population
cities were filled with an additional many kilometer ring of fortress walls. The acropolis was usually
located on the hills, providing the possibility of defense, as in Priene. The building materials were
used basically the same as in the classical era marble, limestone, wood, raw bricks, burned brick was
used more often. It is important to note that the engineering and construction essence of the structure
began to push aside the architectural and artistic image of the monument. The integrity and organic
content of the classical works were gradually lost, but the monuments began to influence more
emotionally and powerfully on greater number of people. Mostly, the order system was preserved, in
which, however, there was a tendency to mix different orders and their elements. The architecture of
residential buildings, palaces and villas were getting more

Ray Bradbury s Flying Machine
Flying Machine by Ray Bradbury is a short story that highlights the consequences of possessing too
much power, jealousy, and fear among other themes, through the use of symbolism, diction, metaphor,
and foreshadowing. Furthermore, Bradbury shows that it is very common for people to disregard the
interests of others, in order to benefit his or herself. Ancient Chinese culture contains many symbolic
creatures and objects. The most prominent and common symbol however, is arguably the dragon. The
Chinese dragon is symbolic of great power over air, sea, and land, and it is believed that they control
rainfall, floods, and typhoons. In Flying Machine , the man is flying above the Great Wall, in a
contraption that had a similar appearance to a dragon. It is as a result of this that Emperor Yuan
reacted so severely upon the sight. Some other man who, seeing you, will build a thing of bright
papers and bamboo like this. But the other man will have an evil face and an evil heart, and the beauty
will be gone. It is this man I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another major symbol in the story is the Great Wall itself. The Emperor realizes its significance to the
people of China, and he feels like the flying man jeopardizes the wall, thus jeopardizing them also.
That wonderful wall which had protected them for a timeless time from enemy hordes and preserved
peace for years without number. He saw the town, nestled to itself by a river and a road and a hill,
beginning to waken (31, 32). This indicates that the wall is of the utmost importance to the country, as
well as him personally, and this is the first time that he realizes that it might be in jeopardy. It is
possible that Emperor Yuan views the wall as an extension of himself, and that losing the wall to an
enemy meant losing his power. This shows that he had a personal interest in defending the wall, giving
further insight into why he had the man

Philip Zimbardo s Temptation Of Evil
Zimbardo raises the question what happens to average, ordinary human beings that make them turn to
the dark side of human nature. Within his book he uses research as well as many examples to show a
showcase of studies and experiments in which an individual(s) are lured to the dark side due to the
situation they are in and other affecting elements. As well as listing evidence from historical events,
Zimbardo also writes about how we can shut down the temptation to give in to evil. The book may
have a name for a difficult read just because many can t believe the simplicity of evil behavior.
Zimbardo s purpose of this novel is to illuminate the idea of how easy it is to give in to the temptation
of evil. A great number of our societies individuals moral views are based on their religion which
make them very narrow minded to the topic of temptation of evil. Zimbardo tries to open people s
mind to make them see how evil may not be born into an individual but created from the environment
they are in. Philip Zimbardo uses a section of the book to speak about his famous Stanford Prison

Characteristics Of A Public And Public Good
A good can either be a private good or public good. Two factors define the characteristics of a private
or public good. The characteristics that define a good are its excludability, the ability the consumption
a good has on future consumption for others, and whether or not its rivalrous, the effect consumption
of a good has on quantity of future consumption. In broad terms, a private good would be excludable
and rivalrous, and a public good would be nonexcludable and nonrivalrous. When we look closer at
public goods we see there are several types.
A Pure public good is defined as having several characteristics. Those characteristics include being a
nonexcludable good and a nonrival good. A nonexcludable good means person A s consumption of a
good does not harm person B s consumption of the good. Person B will still be able to consume the
good. One person s use won t restrict another s. To be a nonrival good is to be a good that can be
consumed by person A without reducing the amount left for person B or others. A nonrival good can
be used over and over again with no additional cost. The defining characteristic of a public good is
that consumption of it by one individual does not actually or potentially reduce the amount available
to be consumed by another individual. (Garvelle and Rees). WiFi can fit into the category quite nicely
on certain circumstances. It can be classified as a social good. A social good is a public good that

Why Wear A Skate Shoe
Introduction
Over the past two decades or so, skater fashion has nonchalantly strolled its way out of the skateparks
and into the mainstream. Because we are so used to seeing people wearing skate shoes in everyday
life, it is easy to forget that they play a pretty important role in the development of a skater s arsenal.
Whether you re a veteran of the half pipe or new to it all, read on to find the best skate shoe for you.
Why Wear A Skate Shoe?
If you re just starting out in the world of skating, you may be a little skeptical about the difference a
pair of shoes can make. After all, doesn t skating encourage you to revolt against the status quo,
embrace your weirdness, and wear what you want? Yes, of course it does, but all of that ... Show more

Of course, owing to the high demands of skating, skaters tend to go through shoes at a rapid pace
anyway, but the most hardcore of skaters would find themselves replacing their skate shoes on an
almost daily basis were it not for the triple stitch.
Cupsoles Or Vulcanized?
Despite the fact millions of people believe they can determine one, there is no clear winner between
cupsole or vulcanized skate shoes. In the end, it comes down to which shoe is better for you, which is
determined by the kind of skating you want to do.
Cupsoles are the heavier, padded shoe of the two and generally provide greater shock absorption and
comfort. Owing to their ability to protect the foot and ankle, cupsoles are generally recommended to
skaters who plan to jump from high distances or perform a lot of aerials while on the board. Cupsoles
tend to last a little longer than their vulcanized counterparts.
While vulcanized skate shoes don t offer the padding of cupsoles, they do make it possible to achieve
greater control of your board, meaning they are perfect for tricks like grinds and slides. Thinner and
more flexible, they are most suited to those who plan to wear their skate shoes both in and out of the
park.
For those who are interested, a video comparison of a cupsole skate shoe and its vulcanized alternative

U.s Russian Conflict Between Ukraine And Russia
Us Response to Ukraine and Russian Conflict
It has been argued that the Ukraine conflict can be attributed almost completely on Russian hostility. It
is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the
soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as
other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply
provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine
(Baker, et al 2014, p.1). The United States takes a big responsibility in this conflict despite the idea
that it is anticipated to answer back to the skirmish between Ukraine and Russia. ... Show more

of Russia and Ukraine. On the other hand, concerning the free trade pact, Kiev initiated discussions
for an entire unlimited trade pact with the European Union after it had converted an associate of the

with exports to the European Union adding up to over nineteen billion dollars and importation from
European Union of approximately thirty billion dollars (Simes 2014, p.5). Studies affirm that, Ukraine

Sarty s fear or respect for his father can be seen multiple times throughout the text. Abner is obviously
a very physically abusive man as can be seen when he strikes Sarty after the Harris case or when his
forcefully pushes his wife away later in the text. But, Abner is also emotionally abusive to his family.
Not only does the threat of him making them move harm Sarty emotionally, but also the fact that he
has no problem abandoning Sarty really cuts Sarty deep. This can be seen after Abner strikes Sarty on
the night of the Harrison case. Abner tells Sarty; You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain

year old boy and depends on his father to live. It s not like he could just go into town and make a
living of his own as a child. So, not only is Sarty staying quiet to protect himself physically and
emotionally, but he is also protecting his livelihood and way of life. Finally, Sarty s last motive to keep
his father s crimes a secret is that he places the priority of his family s wellbeing over his own
happiness. Sarty does this because he knows his family is hurt by Abner s actions just as much as he
is. Yet he also knows that he and his family need his father. He and his family survive off Abner s

In 1996, Toyota engineers discovered an issue with the Hilux Surf, a sport utility vehicle (SUV) that
was sold in England. Toyota sold this same SUV in the United States, but it was called the 4Runner.
The engineers were concerned because with a combination of heavy loading and severe steering
maneuvers, the SUVs could lose directional stability. This resulted in the possible consequence of
drivers losing control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Toyota did make a design
change to correct the steering mechanism, but instead of issuing a recall on the existing Hilux Surfs
and 4Runners that were already on the road, Toyota simply installed the design change on the new
models. Eight years later, there was an accident that involved an out of control Hilux Surf that
prompted a police investigation. The Japanese government heavily criticized Toyota and ordered them
to overhaul its recall system. Since 2007, Toyota has received major criticism regarding the safety and
quality of their vehicles. The company has faced many issues in a short period of time. Following is a

home to sites that date back to word s earliest settlements rivaling those of ancient Egypt and
Mesopotamia . When Pakistan emerged on the map of the world as a sovereign and independent state
in August 1947, it was like a baby in ICU with hardly any prospect of survival, on account of its
extremely vulnerable defence and fragile economy. However, despite numerous setbacks, crises and
turmoils of gigantic magnitude, it has so far been able to survive and make some progress due to
several factors, perhaps the most important of which is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

We must strive for freedom if we strive for self knowledge. The task of self knowledge and of further
self development is of such importance and seriousness, it demands such intensity of effort, that to
attempt it any old way and amongst other things is impossible. The person who undertakes this task
must put it first in his life, which is not so long that he can afford to squander it on trifles. This quote

The American Value of Asking Questions
I. BACKGROUND
Culture shock is the unavoidable byproduct of someone experiencing a new culture for the first time.
A particularly acute form of culture shock is felt by international students studying abroad every day.
For the Chinese students studying in America, they face a large number of problematic instances of
culture shock which impact their ability to earn a quality education in the United States such as
classroom culture. Specifically, Chinese students make a point not to ask questions in and out of the
classroom because of how they were raised. In an article posted to Indiana University s student
orientation website ( 3 Big Differences, 2013), school administrators note that Chinese students are
taught to remain quiet in class because they have been trained not to speak their minds and not to raise
any conversation that has an opposite or different opinion to the instructor s teach. The unified
mindset that pervades much of Chinese society possesses numerous flaws including students inability
or extreme apprehension at asking questions for what it might say about them.
II. ARGUMENT
While the Chinese education system might be structured to deal with this kind of thinking in the
classroom, Chinese students learning in American classrooms face the looming challenge of not
getting left behind. I have chosen to focus both on the reasoning behind many Chinese students not

Differences Between Two Female Characters
The most important aspect of comparison between two female characters is that each of two deny
change forcefully and getting stuck in the past. It was noticed by pip when he first met Miss Havisham
that her watch had stopped at twenty minutes to nine, and that a clock in the room had stopped at
twenty minutes to nine .(Great Expectations 101)One of the most astonishing trait of her character is
that she stuck herself in the time when she was deserted by her lover. She was joyfully getting ready
for her wedding, received the letter from Compeyson. At twenty minutes to nine? At the hour and
minute, said Herbert, at which she afterwards stopped all the clocks (Great Expectation 321) Miss
Havisham was heartbroken by the betrayal at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She further asserts I know nothing of the days of the week; I know nothing of weeks of the year I
know nothing about times (GE107)
The same thing we find in Miss Emily, she conserve herself in an imaginary sphere and keeps on
struggling to clasp time and forbid changes. The first implication is her denial of death as she is not
ready to accept the reality of her father s sudden death. She told them that her father was not dead. She
did that for three days, with the ministers calling on her, and the doctors, trying to persuade her to let
them dispose of the body. (Collected Stories 123) Emily tried to defy death by holding on to her father
s corpse and treating it as if he were still living. She want to remain that time alive around herself
when her father was alive. She didn t alow any change to take place whether in her life or in her old
decayed house. No change has ever been made in her antique house and maintained as well while
every other house acquired change completely over these long years. As interpret by Faulkner only
Miss Emily s house was left, lifting its stubborn and coquettish decay above the cotton wagons and the
gasoline pumps an eyesore among eyesores. (Collected Stories 119) As years go on and the times
begin to change, she retreats into her house, refusing to go along with the

Pharmaceutical Companies Invest A Good Portion Of Their
Pharmaceutical companies invest a good portion of their money on politics and medical companies
that make decisions when it comes to the pharmaceutical industry and its products. One of the top
pharmaceutical companies that does this is the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufactures of America
(PhRMA). According to the Center for Responsive Politics, in 2016 PhRMA spent $19,730,000 on
lobbying. This is a massive amount of money that is spent in the Pharmaceuticals/Health Products
industry, which spends the most money when it comes to lobbying. In the censored news story #9, Big

Robert Pear, the author, also uses a lot of direct quotes from his interview with Mr. Ubl and then starts
to paraphrase a little bit more of what Mr. Ubl meant. By doing this, we can tell that the author really
wants the reader to understand where Mr. Ubl is coming from and that he is trying to keep an open
mind. The author understands that a good portion of the money is going towards lobbying and
persuading politicians, however most of the article focuses on what else PhRMA spends on. Pear also
portrays the CEO of PhRMA Mr. Ubl to be more conversant with the intricacies of health policy, and
more adept at the politics, than some of his predecessors (Pear). By making this statement, Robert
Pear is trying to portray the CEO as more credible and trustworthy than past CEO s of the PhRMA
company. This shows some credibility to the readers and try to get them to feel a little bit safer when it
comes to believing what Mr. Ubl wants to implement or what he supports. The way that the whole
article was written was directed to the general public to have them understand where all the money
that PhRMA was spending was going towards. Compared to The New York Times, the Truthout
website gives more detail about how pharmaceutical companies engage in political lobbying. The
website talks

America s Open Door Policy
Back then we werent very good friends with China but time goes on and more oppurtonities
come.Today America has created a law in which it will open a door for china. This policy began in
(1899,1900)for the protection of equal privileges among countries trading with China and in support
of Chinese territorial and administrative integrity. The crisis in China coincided with several major
developments in the United States. A new interest in foreign markets had emerged there following the
economic depression of the 1890s. The United States also had just gained the Philippines, Guam, and
Hawaii as a result of the Spanish American War and was becoming increasingly interested in China,
where American textile manufacturers had found markets for cheap cotton goods.

Criteria For The Labelling Of Smes
on the criteria set by a particular country. The criteria for the categorization of SMEs can be scaled by
looking at the company s turnover sales, some countries look at the number of employees in the
business and there are countries which perceived SMEs based on mixed criteria. In addition, global
organization entities such as European Commission and World Bank also have their own views on
how to identify SMEs.
The European Commission states that the criterion of the number of staff as the main criterion,
however, introducing a financial criterion is nonetheless a necessary adjunct in order to grasp the real
scale and performance of an enterprise and its position compared to its competitors (European
Commission: 2003, item 4). Figure 1.0 below is an illustration of SMEs definition by the European
Commission.

Examples Of American Crime Obsession
American Crime Obsession
With crime shows like Making a Murderer, the Killing, Luther, and The Fall within reach of every
person with a Netflix account, it makes it pretty easy to assume most people have, or will, watch a
crime show at some point in their life. Americans are so obsessed with crime and the killers that drive
it, which is why we are drawn towards the fictional crime tales. We have been apart of so many
involuntary crimes and horrible events which shape our country, yet we continue to take these awful
events and seek out more information and news about it. The real reason we ve become so obsessed
with true crime is because of the desire that people have to learn more about the legal system, as well
becoming intrigued by watching fictional crime shows. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Molly Fosco, a writer and a lifestyle blogger, says Most of us have never even been in a courtroom, let
alone a murder trial, and our knowledge of the legal system doesn t encompass much more than a few
episodes of Law and Order or The Good Wife. Until we actually go into a courtroom or experience a
murder trial, our knowledge about the subject remains limited. By hearing and learning about different
crime scenarios through the news or other forms of communication, it gives us a way to educate
ourselves on the legal system without actually becoming involved with it. Along with that, the public s
appetite for stories about a flawed criminal justice system is growing and this makes the people more
hungry for any sort of news they can get their hands on about the legal system

Character Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying
PLOT: A Lesson Before Dying tells the story of Jefferson, a twenty one year old benighted black
fielder wrongfully implicated and convicted of the robbery and murder of a white man. He was
sentenced to death by electrocution. At his trial, Jefferson s court selected defense attorney contends
that Jefferson lacks the acumen to plan a robbery, and that, even if he had been involved in the killing,
sentencing him to death would be like putting an inconsequential dead man in the electric chair. In
rancor of this so called defense, the all white jury finds Jefferson guilty. To compound the horror of his
situation, Jefferson internalizes the attorney s racist depiction of him as a dead man.
STRUCTURE/FORM: The structure of this novel starts off from the middle of Jefferson s trial. The
main character is analyzing what is happening during the trial. The sections in the book are describing
in a very detailed manner what is happening from the five months in which the trial started to how it
ends. It was all a phenomenon. Lastly the last few chapters are when the narrator is teaching the
lessons in more detail to send out the message to the reader why this book he wrote is so informational
in many ways.
POINT OF VEIW/PERSPECTIVE: Although the author uses first person narration readers are not
bounded to Grant s point of view. Gaines has said that using a narrator who reports events as others
reveal them is one of the narrative devices he uses to get inside his characters heads without resorting
to omniscient (third person) narration. Much of the response in the novel occurs on an emotional level
rather than an objective level. Although we hear Grant s voice, the novel is ultimately Jefferson s
story.
MAIN CHARACTER: Grant Wiggins and Jefferson are the novel s dual protagonists. Their individual
survivals depend on their give and take support. Despite the fact that it is Jefferson s story, it is
narrated by Grant, with the exception of Chapter 29, in which Jefferson is finally adequate to tell his
story in his own voice, through his own diary. And although Grant has taken on the massive task of
making Jefferson a free, intelligent man, it becomes clear that Grant s destiny is totally intent to
Jefferson s.

James Ponsoldt s The End Of The Tour
The End of the Tour directed by James Ponsoldt follows the story of an interview done by David
Lipsky about David Wallace. The all the scenes in this movie are very intimate and give the feeling
that they viewer is right there as a fly on the wall. This feeling is very important for this movie
because David Wallace is a very private and socially awkward person. These scenes reflect his
preference of social settings in his famous and private life. A quote from the movie that contains the
essence of the film is when Wallace tells Lipsky that he doesn t want to be like him. It is clear that
Lipsky looks up to Wallace and at one point in the movie forces Wallace to face his biggest fear that
he has not lived up to the world s expectations. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is ironic that his big break comes from a book about Wallace s life, one which Wallace would
probably not approved of being published in his life time. A cut between scenes that captured the soul
of this movie is when Lipsky is holding his book signing and the director choose to show the shot of
Wallace care free dancing with the Baptists. This is also one of the final scenes in the movie, which is
appropriate because it begins with Wallace s suicide and ends with a time and moment in his life he
felt the most alive. A big theme in this film is loneliness and more importantly the fear of
abandonment. Wallace does not let himself open up in fear of being abandoned or rejected, when he
does have friends weather that be an ex girlfriend, dog or car Wallace proved himself loyal and would
not change or dessert them. That fierce guard is part of the reason I don t think a viewer could classify
Lipsky and Wallace friends. From the beginning of the movie we know that Lipsky is not the most
faithful with the women in his life, Wallace is sensitive to that and knows that if he opens up to him he
could betray him like he did others in the past. When Wallace finally feels them moving on the path of
friendship Lipsky goes and flirts with Wallace s ex causing Wallace to once again begin

Skin Grafts
The main reason that skin grafts are conducted is to prevent infection from growing and spreading
throughout the body. In reality, skin grafts increase the patient s possibility of acquiring an infection.
The procedure takes a large area of skin from one side of the body, and creates another open wound.
As a result of this surgery, the patient has two wound sites, which makes him twice as likely to get an
infection. Moreover, the body is put under a tremendous amount of stress because it is trying to attach
new tissue to the surviving tissue at two completely different sites. This causes the healing process to
progress slowly because two wounds require more energy than one. Traditional skin grafts are also a
disadvantage to burn victims with substantial burns covering the majority of the body. In this situation,
there are limited areas of unburned skin that can be transplanted to the compromised areas.
The most prevalent characteristic associated with skin grafts are gigantic scars that extend over the
length of the wounded area. Scars emerge as a result of the physiologic wound healing process and
may arise following any insult to the deep dermis (Gauglitz, 2014, p. 32). When ... Show more content

There are three stages that must ensue for an open area of skin to heal: inflammation, proliferation,
and remodeling. Inflammation occurs at the wound site after the skin s surface is broken. During this
phase, platelet degranulation and activation of the complement and clotting cascades form a fibrin clot
for hemostasis, which acts as a scaffold for wound repair (Gauglitz, 2014, p. 32). Platelet
degranulation is crucial to healing because this process recruits immune cells to attack pathogens and
new epithelial cells to reconstruct the skin

  • 2. The Mystery Of Detective Fiction Detective Fiction exists as one of the most popular fiction genres of all time. Detective fiction uses facts and other details to solve a mystery which surrounds a perplexing murder in a novel. Many people gain excitement over a challenge or a test of knowledge when solving a puzzle. A puzzle may baffle or confuse the puzzler; therefore, the puzzler likes to solve the puzzle before the ending. People enjoy the experience of sheer satisfaction of solving a mystery before ending the literary work. Curiosity describes itself as the desire to learn or know about anything; inquisitiveness (Dictionary). Curiosity somehow leads people on the path to try to solve a mystery or a puzzle. It remains a question of why people desire to solve a puzzle. Maybe their inquisitive mind drives them to solve the puzzle or a mystery. Often after the reader finishes reading a detective novel and solving the mystery before the reveal of the murderer, they find this satisfying to their curiosity. Thus they begin to continue reading more mystery fictional novels. The birth of detective fiction surfaced around the 19th century (Gaines). The Moonstone novel considered the first detective novel written (Sahni). The novel created by Wilkie Collins established the ground rules for detective novels. Before the detective fiction surfaced, many novels conveyed the murderer as the innocent one, instead of the victim as the innocent one. These works of fiction, unfortunately did not ... • 3. Mass Reproduction Mass Reproduction and Cultural Eradication In the reading The Work of Art in the Age of It s Technological Reproducibility , by W. Benjamin he expresses his point of view on the loss of the traditional aspect and aura of art that is seen within today s society. He also speaks about the way that photography has become a device for the mass reproduction of images and has begun to eliminate this aspect of authenticity that places an image in a specific place and time. The person that is behind the camera forces people to see what he or she wants them to see. It changes the moral and traditional conventions that may have once been associated with an image. In his article he doesn t completely reject this idea of reproduction he also expands on the idea that although authenticity is an issue, within film you are able to do what paintings cannot. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Adorno and M. Horkheimer s article, The Culture Industry they discuss the way culture has become commodified and changes the perception of the audience. For example in Hollywood films, many movies are given various titles but the overall production of the film seems to form a unified and repetitive outlook. We as the audience begin to lose the cultural aspect and meaning that is associated with these films. They argue that the commodification of culture has come to form an entirely new capitalist society that seems to focus on the domination of the medium rather than the nature of humanities cultural, social and moral values. Both of these articles draw on points of reproduction and its affect on society, but they also differ in the means of what is being created through this loss of tradition and aura. Benjamin talks about a new perception being formed through this loss whereas Adorno and Horkheimer emphasize that this loss of culture is not providing new perceptions of art through film and photography by the use of the camera, but instead is commodifying the aesthetic qualities that come to form an ... • 4. Deregulation of the Airline Industry Deregulation of the Airline Industry The airline industry has been subject of intense price competition since it was deregulated, and the result has been a number of new carriers which specialize in regional service and no frills operations. These carriers typically purchase older aircraft and often operate outside the industry wide computerized reservations system. In exchange for these inconveniences, passengers receive low fares relative to the industry as a whole. This research examines two low fare air carriers, ValuJet and Southwest Airlines. By investigating these air carriers, we can better understand the economic impacts of price versus service in the airline industry as a whole, as well as, the impacts on passenger ... In the play she drinks the potion and the nurse and lady Capulet come in and it shows their reaction and response to the situation and then she is taken to the vault which is where dead family members rest. In the Romeo and Juliet Film by Baz Luhrmann, soon as Juliet drinks the potion a quick flash back plays and then Juliet is rushed to hospital. Skipping the reaction scene entirely. They do this by splitting single atoms, Nuclear Energy Institute states ?Nuclear power plants obtain the heat needed to produce steam through a physical process. This process, called fission, entails the splitting of atoms of uranium in a nuclear reactor. The uranium fuel consists of small, hard ceramic pellets that are packaged in long, vertical tubes. College Decision Analysis Sara Simpson Brandon Gillette Philosophy 08 May 2017 Decision Analysis Introduction: An important decision that I have had to make recently is making the decision of what college I will be attending after I finish here at Blue River. Deciding on what college to attend next involves a few things; it involves more than one good option, uncertainty or chance to the outcomes of each option, and contains balance. Picking a college is a hard decision. Choosing the right college for someone has several things to think about when deciding where you will finish school, such as the school being to far or to close to home, does it have the major you want to study, what s the food like, are you playing a sport while attending school, tuition, along with several other factors. The things that are most important to me when deciding on the next college are tuition, soccer team, good financial aid options and if they have the major of sports management. • 9. The Balancing Act of Adult Life Essay The Balancing Act of Adult Life Life in the 21st century seems more complex than ever, as adults cope with the demands of multiple roles, the stresses of a fluid workplace, and the pressures of child and elder care. Individuals feel compelled to update their work related knowledge and skills and to keep up with the proliferation of information. Family resource management is increasingly complex, with expanded choices and decisions that must be made about utilities, banking, investments, retirement planning, etc. The Internet has simultaneously made it easier to access information, yet more complicated to apply critical judgment to what one finds. This Digest describes a selection of adult education approaches to helping individuals negotiate the curriculum of life challenges. Beyond Life Skills In the 1990s, work/life balance caught the attention of researchers, policymakers, and employers, resulting in the development of a range of employment benefits, legislation, and programs aimed at helping people cope. Life management or family/career management curricula emphasize coping through the development of skills in communication, interpersonal effectiveness, and money, time, stress, and household management (e.g., California Community Colleges 1998; Mathieson 1999). As Caproni (1997) notes, research, policy, and practice focused on work/life balance have raised important issues and brought about changes that have benefitted some families. However, these approaches are incomplete in several ways. As Niles et al. (2001) point out, the usefulness of these types of responses benefits different segments of society differently. For the working poor, balancing work, nonwork, and life roles may be a luxury; they are likely to be far more circumspect in how they can commit their resources to family needs (p. 13). Caproni (1997) suggests that the discourse of work/life balance reflects bureaucratic values such as individualism, instrumentalism, goal focus, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sostratus Lighthouse The most outstanding was the creation of Sostratus from Cnidus (III century BC) a sea lighthouse on the island of Pharos near Alexandria, which was considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World (it has not survived to our time). It is a three tier tower 120 m high: its base was square, the middle tier had the shape of an octagon, and the upper tier was a round structure with statues that adorned it. At the top of the lighthouse, equipped with metal mirrors, the fire was constantly maintained. The lighthouse served as both an observation post and a fortress. The building materials were used basically the same as in the classical era marble, limestone, wood, raw bricks, burned brick was used more often. It is important to note that the engineering and construction essence of the structure began to push aside the architectural and artistic image of the monument. The integrity and organic content of the classical works were gradually lost, but the monuments began to influence more emotionally and powerfully on greater number of people. • 11. Ray Bradbury s Flying Machine Flying Machine by Ray Bradbury is a short story that highlights the consequences of possessing too much power, jealousy, and fear among other themes, through the use of symbolism, diction, metaphor, and foreshadowing. Furthermore, Bradbury shows that it is very common for people to disregard the interests of others, in order to benefit his or herself. Ancient Chinese culture contains many symbolic creatures and objects. The most prominent and common symbol however, is arguably the dragon. The Chinese dragon is symbolic of great power over air, sea, and land, and it is believed that they control rainfall, floods, and typhoons. In Flying Machine , the man is flying above the Great Wall, in a contraption that had a similar appearance to a dragon. It is as a result of this that Emperor Yuan reacted so severely upon the sight. He saw the town, nestled to itself by a river and a road and a hill, beginning to waken (31, 32). This indicates that the wall is of the utmost importance to the country, as well as him personally, and this is the first time that he realizes that it might be in jeopardy. It is possible that Emperor Yuan views the wall as an extension of himself, and that losing the wall to an enemy meant losing his power. • 12. Philip Zimbardo s Temptation Of Evil Zimbardo raises the question what happens to average, ordinary human beings that make them turn to the dark side of human nature. Within his book he uses research as well as many examples to show a showcase of studies and experiments in which an individual(s) are lured to the dark side due to the situation they are in and other affecting elements. As well as listing evidence from historical events, Zimbardo also writes about how we can shut down the temptation to give in to evil. The book may have a name for a difficult read just because many can t believe the simplicity of evil behavior. Zimbardo s purpose of this novel is to illuminate the idea of how easy it is to give in to the temptation of evil. A great number of our societies individuals moral views are based on their religion which make them very narrow minded to the topic of temptation of evil. Zimbardo tries to open people s mind to make them see how evil may not be born into an individual but created from the environment they are in. • 14. Characteristics Of A Public And Public Good A good can either be a private good or public good. Two factors define the characteristics of a private or public good. The characteristics that define a good are its excludability, the ability the consumption a good has on future consumption for others, and whether or not its rivalrous, the effect consumption of a good has on quantity of future consumption. In broad terms, a private good would be excludable and rivalrous, and a public good would be nonexcludable and nonrivalrous. When we look closer at public goods we see there are several types. A Pure public good is defined as having several characteristics. Those characteristics include being a nonexcludable good and a nonrival good. A nonexcludable good means person A s consumption of a good does not harm person B s consumption of the good. Person B will still be able to consume the good. One person s use won t restrict another s. To be a nonrival good is to be a good that can be consumed by person A without reducing the amount left for person B or others. A nonrival good can be used over and over again with no additional cost. The defining characteristic of a public good is that consumption of it by one individual does not actually or potentially reduce the amount available to be consumed by another individual. • 15. Why Wear A Skate Shoe Introduction Over the past two decades or so, skater fashion has nonchalantly strolled its way out of the skateparks and into the mainstream. Because we are so used to seeing people wearing skate shoes in everyday life, it is easy to forget that they play a pretty important role in the development of a skater s arsenal. Whether you re a veteran of the half pipe or new to it all, read on to find the best skate shoe for you. Why Wear A Skate Shoe? If you re just starting out in the world of skating, you may be a little skeptical about the difference a pair of shoes can make. After all, doesn t skating encourage you to revolt against the status quo, embrace your weirdness, and wear what you want? Yes, of course it does, but all of that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Of course, owing to the high demands of skating, skaters tend to go through shoes at a rapid pace anyway, but the most hardcore of skaters would find themselves replacing their skate shoes on an almost daily basis were it not for the triple stitch. Cupsoles Or Vulcanized? Despite the fact millions of people believe they can determine one, there is no clear winner between cupsole or vulcanized skate shoes. In the end, it comes down to which shoe is better for you, which is determined by the kind of skating you want to do. Cupsoles are the heavier, padded shoe of the two and generally provide greater shock absorption and comfort. Owing to their ability to protect the foot and ankle, cupsoles are generally recommended to skaters who plan to jump from high distances or perform a lot of aerials while on the board. Cupsoles tend to last a little longer than their vulcanized counterparts. While vulcanized skate shoes don t offer the padding of cupsoles, they do make it possible to achieve greater control of your board, meaning they are perfect for tricks like grinds and slides. Thinner and more flexible, they are most suited to those who plan to wear their skate shoes both in and out of the park. For those who are interested, a video comparison of a cupsole skate shoe and its vulcanized alternative can be found below. https://youtu.be/XUsMWLak2PE Skate

It is argued that, the Russian president Putin, assaulted Crimea because of the long desire to protect the soviet terrain, and from the prevailing situation, he may possibly pursue the entire Ukraine, as well as other nations in Eastern Europe. In this perception the dismissal of Ukraine president Viktor simply provided an excuse for Putin`s decision to order Russian militaries to take hold of part of Ukraine (Baker, et al 2014, p.1). Not only does the threat of him making them move harm Sarty emotionally, but also the fact that he has no problem abandoning Sarty really cuts Sarty deep. This can be seen after Abner strikes Sarty on the night of the Harrison case. Abner tells Sarty; You got to learn to stick to your own blood or you ain t going to have any blood to stick to you. Toyota sold this same SUV in the United States, but it was called the 4Runner. This resulted in the possible consequence of drivers losing control of the vehicle and increasing the risk of a crash. Toyota did make a design change to correct the steering mechanism, but instead of issuing a recall on the existing Hilux Surfs and 4Runners that were already on the road, Toyota simply installed the design change on the new models. A particularly acute form of culture shock is felt by international students studying abroad every day. For the Chinese students studying in America, they face a large number of problematic instances of culture shock which impact their ability to earn a quality education in the United States such as classroom culture. Specifically, Chinese students make a point not to ask questions in and out of the classroom because of how they were raised. In an article posted to Indiana University s student orientation website ( 3 Big Differences, 2013), school administrators note that Chinese students are taught to remain quiet in class because they have been trained not to speak their minds and not to raise any conversation that has an opposite or different opinion to the instructor s teach. Character Analysis Of A Lesson Before Dying PLOT: A Lesson Before Dying tells the story of Jefferson, a twenty one year old benighted black fielder wrongfully implicated and convicted of the robbery and murder of a white man. He was sentenced to death by electrocution. At his trial, Jefferson s court selected defense attorney contends that Jefferson lacks the acumen to plan a robbery, and that, even if he had been involved in the killing, sentencing him to death would be like putting an inconsequential dead man in the electric chair. In rancor of this so called defense, the all white jury finds Jefferson guilty. To compound the horror of his situation, Jefferson internalizes the attorney s racist depiction of him as a dead man. STRUCTURE/FORM: The structure of this novel starts off from the middle of Jefferson s trial. The main character is analyzing what is happening during the trial. The sections in the book are describing in a very detailed manner what is happening from the five months in which the trial started to how it ends. It was all a phenomenon. Lastly the last few chapters are when the narrator is teaching the lessons in more detail to send out the message to the reader why this book he wrote is so informational in many ways. POINT OF VEIW/PERSPECTIVE: Although the author uses first person narration readers are not bounded to Grant s point of view. Gaines has said that using a narrator who reports events as others reveal them is one of the narrative devices he uses to get inside his characters heads without resorting to omniscient (third person) narration. Much of the response in the novel occurs on an emotional level rather than an objective level. Although we hear Grant s voice, the novel is ultimately Jefferson s story. MAIN CHARACTER: Grant Wiggins and Jefferson are the novel s dual protagonists. Their individual survivals depend on their give and take support. Despite the fact that it is Jefferson s story, it is narrated by Grant, with the exception of Chapter 29, in which Jefferson is finally adequate to tell his story in his own voice, through his own diary. • 33. Skin Grafts The main reason that skin grafts are conducted is to prevent infection from growing and spreading throughout the body. In reality, skin grafts increase the patient s possibility of acquiring an infection. The procedure takes a large area of skin from one side of the body, and creates another open wound. As a result of this surgery, the patient has two wound sites, which makes him twice as likely to get an infection. Moreover, the body is put under a tremendous amount of stress because it is trying to attach new tissue to the surviving tissue at two completely different sites. This causes the healing process to progress slowly because two wounds require more energy than one. Traditional skin grafts are also a disadvantage to burn victims with substantial burns covering the majority of the body. In this situation, there are limited areas of unburned skin that can be transplanted to the compromised areas. The most prevalent characteristic associated with skin grafts are gigantic scars that extend over the length of the wounded area. Scars emerge as a result of the physiologic wound healing process and may arise following any insult to the deep dermis (Gauglitz, 2014, p. 32). When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
