3. MEANING OF RESEARCH
Research is not an existing bag of technique.
Research is not a fishing expedition or an
encyclopedic gathering of assorted facts.
Research is purposeful investigation. It
provides a structure of decision making. There
are three part involved in any investigation: (1)
The implicit question posed. (2) The explicit
answer proposed. (3) Collection, analysis, and
interpretation of the information leading from the
question to the answer. This third part is the
defense that justifies the recommendation and is
viewed as research

4. • The Advance Learner’s Dictionary of Current
English lays down the meaning of research as “A
careful investigation or inquiry specially through
search for new facts in any branch of knowledge”
• Redman and Mory define research as
“systematized effort to gain new knowledge.”
• Research in common parlance refers to a search
for knowledge. One can also define research as a
scientific search for pertinent information on a
specific topic. In fact, research is an art of
scientific investigation.
