Compare And Contrast Playdoh And The Joker
Supervillain Compare Contrast Essay Super Villains, with powers or not, are remarkably popular
considering that they are such unfavorable people. Fictional villains are generally defined as evil, and
it is questioned whether this indication leaves for reason to believe that being evil is popular. These
characters come in various shapes and sizes, albeit they habitually have similar schemes. Villains
dominate a penchant to act upon impulses triggered by greed or a lust for revenge against the
protagonist, one that has usually been derived from severed relationships in the past. Although villains
may share similar backgrounds and experiences, Playdoh and The Joker have several contrasting
features including setting, characterization, abilities, and motives. In the societies of the supervillains

The villains in comparison retain the same incentive for all schemes: to spread terror and evil in the
vicinity of their societal norm. Actions that are taken are differentiated between the qualities and
abilities of the villains, as one villain often does not have the power that is encompassed by another.
The abilities that Playdoh restrains in comparison to those of The Joker allow for him to be classified
as a higher rank of superhuman, as his skills are considered to be more abnormal in regards to a
human s natural endurance. The Joker, consequently, is ordained to be more of a villain than Playdoh,
as his practices are more villainous and disastrous in opposition to Playdoh. While one character
upholds the position as a villain, the other carries perplexed qualities of superpowers over the
alternative. Therefore, Playdoh and The Joker s qualities and aspirations balance out one another s in
regards to their status, dignity, and prestige over their title in

The Right To Jerusalem Essay
The Rights to Jerusalem
The rights to Jerusalem have been heavily debated for centuries. It is the cause of much animosity
between the three major monotheistic religions. Since the beginning, the Christians, Muslims and
Jews have all claimed that Jerusalem belongs to them due to their religious texts. According to the
Bible, Jerusalem is where Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross and crucified for his crimes, blasphemy
against Judaism and for treason against Rome. Jerusalem and the area surrounding it are heavily
embedded in Christianity and Judaism. Jerusalem is sacred to the Jews because the First Temple, at the
site known as the Temple Mount today, was built by King Solomon, and Mount Moriah is where
Abraham almost sacrificed his son and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the New Testament books of Luke and Acts, the accounts of the life of Jesus Christ are told from
his youth and adolescence to his adulthood and death. Jesus was brought to Jerusalem, in his youth
and adolescence, to be presented to God in the Temple, and to partake with his family in the Festival
of the Passover. In his adulthood, he traveled to Jerusalem to preach to the poor, heal the sick and
protect the people within the walls that surrounded Jerusalem. It is also the location of Jesus Last
Supper, his arrest in Gethsemane, his trial, his crucifixion at Golgotha, his burial, his resurrection and
ascension to heaven. With the significance of Jerusalem being very high in the eyes of the Christian
faith, there was very little doubt that there would be a battle to maintain or regain control of
Jerusalem. Nine of the main conflicts, to preserve Jerusalem for the Christian faith, are known
throughout history as the Crusades. During each crusade the theme was the same; recover the lands
that were taken by people who were believed to be the enemies of God. The Crusades were fought to
restore all holy lands and the lands that were once controlled by Christians back to their rightful
owners .
In the years just prior to the first crusade, a large amount of land was taken by the Saracens (Muslims)
from the Christian people living in the

How a Steel Mill Works
How A Steel Mill Works
The principal consumables employed in steel production are iron ore, coal, scrap metal and electrical
energy. The importance of each of these consumables depends upon the technological processes
adopted at each mill. In a classic integrated mill, coal and iron ore are the main consumables.
In semi integrated mills, scrap iron is the mainstay.
An integrated mill comprises four basic operations reduction, refining, solidification, and rolling to
convert iron ore into semi finished or finished (rolled) steel products.
Reduction The objective is to convert iron ore naturally occurring in the form of ferrous oxide into pig
iron.
In this operation, a coker converts coal into coke that is

Among these are refractories, electrodes, and alloying elements.
Refractories are materials that work as thermal isolators and are used to coat critical steel mill
equipment such as blast furnaces, ladles, and converters.
Their main function is to protect the equipment from extreme temperatures and to minimize wear and
tear.
Electrodes constitute an important input in the operation of electric steel mills.
Alloying elements Metals such as zinc, tin, chrome and aluminum are employed in steel alloy
production.
A steel mill uses industrial gases extensively. In addition to the jet of oxygen fed converters in
integrated mills, oxygen is frequently injected into blast furnaces and electric furnances to improve
overall operating conditions. Given the volume of oxygen utilized, steel mills usually house one or
more oxygen producing units. This used to be integrated vertically into the steelworks themselves.
However, in recent years, initiatives have been widely employed to outsource this operation to
specialized companies.
There are also non integrated manufacturers which operate via a single processing phase: reduction or
rolling.
In the first case are pig iron producers, the so called ironers, that utilize coal in blast furnaces to make
pig iron. In the second case are the re rollers of plates and billets acquired from integrated or

How Does William Goldman Use Situational Irony In The...
Satire is the use of humor, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize a person s someone s
shortcomings and vices. In William Goldman s The Princess Bride, satire is evident through his use of
irony and ridicule, which he uses to mock different aspects of traditional fairy tales. Archetypes are
not employed, highlighting the absurdness of key components of these stories. Situational irony is also
used to satericalize the flaws of several characters, mocking their flaws, and making them laughable.
Therefore, William Goldman s The Princess Bride is a satirical story that mocks fairy tale archetypes
and character flaws through the use of ridicule. In this story, Goldman satericalizes traditional
character models by straying from them, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Vizzini boasts an intellectual mind that he believes is his strongest attribute. In his battle
of wits against Westley, his dizzying intellect which was supposed to help him reason out the poison,
fails to help him escape his fate (CITE!). In this example, the author mocks Vizzini s flaws,
satericalizing his conceitedness for it was because of his intelligence that he was unable to see the trap
Westley laid out. This adds to satirical theme of The Princess Bride as Goldman ridicules Vizzini s self
conceited nature. In addition, Goldman also ridicules seemingly good and wanted characteristics by
using irony to highlight how they aren t always good This is exemplified when Buttercup asks her
intended husband to help improve her letter to her lover while bragging about how perfect Westley is
to him (CITE). Throughout this book, Buttercup is portrayed to be innocent; a characteristic that is
often desired in princess roles. However, Goldman s use of situational irony satericalises this
expectation by turning her innocence into stupidity, showing how oblivious she is, thus adding to the
satirical nature of The Princess

Attention Deficit Disorder Essay
Attention Deficit Disorder Attention Deficit Disorder otherwise known as ADD is a condition that
refers to an individual s inability to control their own behavior or impulse(McEwan 70). This can
begin in early childhood and interfere with children s ability to do well in school and social situations.
These patients also have troubles blocking out noise or other stimuli in order to focus on a task or
what is being said. ADD is a chronic problem that can be seen as early as infancy and can extend to
adulthood. There are two types of Attention Deficit Disorder. The most common form is Attention
Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD). The characteristic of this type is hyperactivity, which is seen

It is also more prevalent with in boys than in girls. In babies that have been prenatal exposed to drugs,
including alcohol, cocaine, amphetamines, and heroin, ADD needs to be carefully watched for.
Increasing numbers of premature infants are found to have the disorder as well. A psychiatrist or
clinical or school psychologist usually makes a diagnosis. In order to do this, physicians,
psychologists and educators conduct an evaluation that includes a health and developmental history,
medical evaluation, psychological and educational assessment, behavior rating scales completed by
the parents and teacher, and possibly a speech and language evaluation (Miller 25). Hyperactivity is
the most obvious symptom. Children with this condition are unable to control their actions even under
the most closely monitored situation. Parents often expect that certain foods cause hyperactivity, but
children with ADD are hyperactive even though these foods are not part of their diets. Other primary
symptoms include inattention, distractibility, impulsiveness and short attention span. There are
problems with organization and transitioning from one activity to another. The disorder can be
complicated by other kinds of learning and/or behavioral problems as well. Thought patterns may be
loose and poorly organized. Children have difficulty with memory, following directions and

Thomas Hobbes Government
He started out on the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits to other countries
outside of England to listen to other scientists and learn different forms of government. While
studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people were allowing themselves to be ruled and what
would a great form of government for England. He reasoned that people were naturally wicked and
shouldn t be trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish creatures and would do anything
to better their position and social status. These people, when left alone will go back to their evil
impulses to get a better advantage over others. So Thomas Hobbes concluded that the best form of
government would an absolute monarchy, which is a government which gives all power to the king or
queen to provide direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil.
To support his ideas, Thomas Hobbes asked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why
are they carrying arms and have keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the country is at
peace, the people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping
their own interests a secret from others. According to Thomas Hobbes, the reason this is the case is
because people are selfish and evil and that they protect their interests really well by using certain
tactics to make sure other people devastate their needs and wants. Also, without a leader, these people

Environmental Externalities In The Canadian Government
The Canadian government ought to take a tougher stand against business enterprises who are causing
negative environmental externalities by levying taxes, intensifying standards and introducing new
environmental programs. Canada wants to be a world leader in climate change and now is the time to
act and set the standard. Revenues generated through taxes will be rolled into environmental programs
and businesses will be forced to innovate to find new ways of doing business.
Canada has deployed policy options in the past to deal with issues like global warming, hazardous
waste, and air and water pollution, albeit they were after the issues became critical. The government
needs to take a stronger role and be a world leader in climate change, ... Show more content on

It forces the business to make the decision on how to proceed, and they are faced with consequences if
they continue. 2
Canada currently makes limited use of environmental taxes, in an OECD ranking of environmentally
related taxes as a share of GDP, Canada ranks between Rwanda and Tunisia, and India. The OECD
average was 1.56%, Canada came in at 1.15%, the leading country was Denmark at 4.11%. This
shows that Canada has fallen behind others in environmental taxation and that changes need to be
made.
However, taxes alone will not be able to solve the issue by itself, a multi pronged approach is
necessary. Taxes are one piece of the puzzle; quality and quantity standards combined with the taxes
will force the business to make tough decisions and force them to innovate and consider clean
technology options. Cap and trade systems may also be used with taxes, allowing business to emit a
certain amount and make market decisions to purchase and emit more; and taxing them on certain
levels. 1
The next negative externality to address is the location of hazardous waste sites and the options to deal
with them. The location of hazardous facilities is a hot button issue for many communities; evidence
has emerged that communities close to toxic waste landfills suffered serious negative consequences. 1
The problem with these facilities is they have to go somewhere, so they key is to locate them where
there will have the least impact on people

Genre Theory Paper
Genre theory is used in the study of films in order to categorize films. Genre are dependent on
different factors such as who the director is, story line, and audience expectations (Azia, n.d). Genres
are types or categories and genre films that are usually recognizable as part of a certain genre
(Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014, section 4.1). To better understand genre there are several examples to
look at. When watching a fantasy film we know that within the movie we will expect to see unreal,
magical, or impossible situations, characters or settings often overlapping with various other genres
(GoodyKoontz, 2014). In musical films you will see that the film mainly focuses on songs. Genres
also have subgenres which are sub categories of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Instead of strictly dialogue, the narrative may from time to time be advanced by characters breaking
into song. Numerous subgenres exist within the musical genre from musical comedy to musical drama
to animated musicals to musical documentaries and concert films (Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014,
section 4.4). A scene that helps classify Snow White and the Seven dwarfs into the animated musical
genre is the scene where all the dwarfs are working hard at the jewelry mine and once work gets over
they walk home in a single line singing the song heigh ho heigh ho its home from work we go as they
dance and skip on their walk home from work. Another scene that illustrates a musical/fantasy genre is
the scene where Snow White discovers the dwarf s cabin and with help from the animals of the forest
she starts to clean the house while singing whistle while you work. I m sure we would all love if our
animals could help us with chores around the house but that will most likely never happen. This is a
perfect example of a movie with fantasy genre. The fantasy genre has events that occur outside the
ordinary laws that operate within the universe. Magic is central to the fantasy genre and fantasy stories
often involve journeys and quests like the wicked queen on a quest to kill Snow White. There are three
different ways that fantasy writers set up their worlds. Some films begin and end in a fantasy world,
others start in the real world and a third type of fantasy is set in the real world but elements of magic
intrude upon it (Dewan,

Why Cursive Writing Should Be Taught In Schools
While some argue, cursive writing belongs in the archives and common core ushers it out of schools,
the evidence shows we need it as much as ever. says Jennifer Doverspike. Some people may question
why it is still necessary for cursive to be taught in our schools. Especially when we are no longer in
the 21st century. Where we have now entered the new age where technology is constantly on the rise,
and tablets and iPhones have taken over. This drastic change has allowed our children and adults to
take the easier route. Although the electronic world has taken over and has added new elements to the
writing world. Researchers have found a strong connection between writing by hand, the mind,
language skills, memory and artificial thinking.
So why cursive still needed in our education system? This seems to be a alarming question the
education policy makers are facing with technology on the rise. A place where the curls and the
beautiful long handed writing seems to be outdated. In this short essay I will explain the benefits of
why cursive should remain in our school system.

connect to the past? Cursive writing allows us to connect to the past whether its history or reading our
grandparents letters. If you cannot write cursive how do you except to understand it. A lot of historical
documents like the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and many others are all originally
written in cursive. Seems as if today youth will only be able to read the transcripts of these documents.

Research of Color Theory Essay
Research of Color Theory
Color fills our world with beauty. We delight in the colors of a magnificent sunset and in the bright red
and golden yellow leaves of autumn. We are charmed by gorgeous flowering plants and the brilliantly
colored arch of a rainbow. We also use color in various ways to add pleasure and interest to our lives.
For example, many people choose the colors of their clothes carefully and decorate their homes with
colors that create beautiful, restful, or exciting effects. By their selection and arrangement of colors,
artists try to make their paintings more realistic or expressive.

Light is a form of energy that behaves in some ways like waves. Light waves have a range of
wavelengths. A wavelength is the distance between any point on one wave and the corresponding
point on the next wave. Different wavelengths of light appear to us as different colors. Light that
contains all wavelengths in the same proportions as sunlight appears white. See LIGHT.
When a beam of sunlight passes through a specially shaped glass object called a prism, the rays of
different wavelengths are bent at different angles. The bending breaks up the sunlight into a beautiful
band of colors. This band contains all the colors of the rainbow and is called the visible spectrum. At
one end of the spectrum, the light appears as violet. It consists of the shortest wavelengths of light that
we can see. Farther along the spectrum, the light has increasingly longer wavelengths. It appears as
blue, green, yellow, orange, and red, each shading into its neighboring colors in the spectrum. The
longest wavelengths of light that we can see appear deep red in color. Some descriptions of the
spectrum also mention the color indigo, which is closely related to blue, between violet and blue.
Light waves are a form of electromagnetic waves, which consist of patterns of electric and magnetic
energy. The visible spectrum is only a small part of the electromagnetic spectrum the

model organisms will be studied to provide the information necessary for understanding the
functioning of the human genome. The information gathered by the human genome project is expected
to be the source book for biomedical science in the twenty first century and will be of great value to

The overall budget needs for the effort are expected to be about $200 million per year for
approximately 15 years.
Lasers are used in the detection of DNA in many aspects of the project; a very important use is in
sorting chromosomes by flow cytometry. Lasers are also used in confocal fluorescence laser
microscopy to excite fluorescently tagged molecules in genome mapping, in addition to other mapping
uses. In diagnostic applications, lasers are used with fluorescent probes attached to DNA to light up
chromosomes and to create patterns on DNA chips.
From the beginning of the human genome project it was clearly recognized that acquisition and use of
such genetic knowledge would have momentous involvements for both individuals and society and
would pose a number of consequential choices for public and professional deliberation.
As Thomas Lee writes, quot;the effort underway is unlike anything ever before attempted, if
successful, it could lead to our ultimate control of human disease, aging, and death quot;.
Whatever its justification, the human genome project has already inspired society with the hope of
quot;better quot; babies, and one way to deploy pragmatism in the analysis of genetic engineering is to
look at this promise of quot;better quot; babies in its social context: parenthood. Parents hope for
healthy children and, if they could afford it, make choices (such as choosing parental care) to help
quot;engineer quot; healthier babies.

Sacred Texture Analysis Essay
Introduction
To explore the use of innovation and creativity in leading the early Christian communities from insular
spirituality to a global social or religious force, I am using the method of Sacred Texture Analysis.
Analysis of sacred text is a way of systemically probing dynamics across a spectrum of relationships
between the humans and the divine (Robbins, 1996, pg.4). The sacred texture of a text is the formation
and nurturing of religious community (Robbins, 1996, pg.127). Therefore, socio rhetorical criticism
extends intertextuality to include cultural discourse (Gowler, 1999, pg.197). So the challenge is how to
understand Apostle Peter s organizational leadership and then apply these concepts to today s
organizational leadership. Below are my insights according to Bible reading and extensive research of
1 and 2 Peter. In carrying out his mission, Peter persistently had to struggle with questions of
leadership with creativity and innovation. In a very significant sense, he had to disconnect ... Show

The young men are supposed to submit to their elders. Peter devotes only four verses to the elders but

Leaders can shape opportunities and motivations for storytelling (Branson, et al., 2011, pg.53). When
young men hear how the leadership of others has influenced them and their churches, they can rethink
what is important in their own praxes of leadership (Branson, et al., 2011, pg. 54). Therefore, the

Robert Nardelli s Leadership Style

them in home improvement projects. In the business world though, the mention of this chain store
brings to mind the controversial CEO Robert Nardelli who left an organizational path of destruction
upon his departure from the company. Nardelli had an interesting leadership style that bordered on the
edge of being considered unethical and was considered by many as not being beneficial for the
company overall. By evaluating Robert Nardelli s leadership style against known leadership theories
such as trait, behavioral, situational and contingency theories it is easy to dissect his leadership style
and make a final decision as to how ethical he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the theories that can be used to dissect Nardelli s role as a leader is the trait theory. Trait
theories are based upon the concept that leaders are simply born with a set of traits such as social,
personal, and personality traits and also physical characteristics that outline how they are as a leader
(Baack, 2012). Nardelli had a good foundation of traits for being a leader but there were some
personality traits that kept him from being a great leader. He had a strong desire for setting and
achieving goals but his interactions with people, employees and customers alike, were what caused
him problems. Robert Nardelli was not known as being a personable individual and tended to focus
more on the numbers that the stores were generating rather than the people that were providing those
numbers. As a leader it is important to be balanced between the two aspects as you cannot have one
without the other. It is impossible to lead people if there is no desire to relate to them and this is the
issue that Nardelli was faced with. The profits that an organization is generating can only take you so
far; it is the people that need to be the focus first and then one can move on to other aspects.
Whereas trait theory believed that leadership traits are something and individual is born with,
behavioral theory is based on the concept that

Human Behaviour
Cancer is still seen by many as an incurable disease that slowly takes over healthy human tissue, and
ultimately causes death. 2Through advances in medical science, different physical procedures have
been developed to treat cancer for example, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. In recent years
however, there has been a growing perception by cancer specialists and patients that the onset and
treatment of cancer may be affected by psychological factors. A new field of research called psycho
oncology has emerged to investigate how the mind can slow down, or even reverse, the progress of
cancer. The results from such studies however, have not always been conclusive, and in the case of
retrospective studies, have often proved ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
15 Research was then directed to cancer patients. Many studies concentrated on women suffering from
breast cancer, and consisted of interviewing them after a significant event involving their cancer (such
as diagnosis, or an operation). The patients were then followed up after a number of years. However,
the results often proved contradictory, as has occurred in several retrospective studies. In one well
known case, 16Ramirez et al. (1989) found that there was a prognostic association between severe life
stressors and the recurrence of breast cancer. Barraclough et al. (1992) 17 on the other hand, 18 found
that psychosocial adversity such as depression, or a severe life event, was not conducive to a relapse
of cancer and this conclusions has since been supported. 19 There is good evidence for any relation
between stressful life events and breast cancer (McGee 1999, p.1015).
Certain studies found that patients could be classified into different psychological groups, and that a
pattern emerged in the life span of the patients in each of the groups. In one study, Greer et al. (1979)
classified 2069 female patients suffering from breast cancer into one of four groups , 21 the Denial,
Fighting Spirit, Stoic Acceptance and Feelings of Hopelessness groups. The Denial group consisted of

How much further to go Cal? wined Jem.
Not too long now replied Calpurnia.
Why couldn t we go to the one down the road from our house asked Jem.
It is not that easy, you don t understand, said Calpurnia.

What does she mean when she says you don t understand , what is there to understand. I know that
Calpurnia is a smart woman but I don t get her on this one. There was a perfectly good store near the

Six Essential Nutrients
There are six essential nutrients. These nutrients include; carbohydrates, proteins, fat, vitamins,
minerals, and water. Carbohydrates are a main source of energy for the brain and reduces the risk of
coronary heart disease. Proteins are a major structural component of cells and builds and repairs body
tissues. Fat is an energy source and increases absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Vitamins, you can get
your vitamin c from citrus fruits, strawberries, and peppers. Vitamin C, and vitamin D are very
important to a body. Vitamin C for synthesis of collagen (provides structure for blood vessels).
Vitamin D maintain calcium homeostasis. Minerals, sodium helps maintain fluid volume outside of

I ve learned that if you want a healthy body you have to eat healthy and exercise. Most people think,
well if I eat salads I ll lose all this weight. Well, that not exactly how it works. In order to make that

isn t going to help especially if it s once every two months or something. If you want to stay away
from the doctors you need to do these things. You need to exercise and eat healthy. Now, I m not

The Language Of Silence By Maxine Hong Kingston
Language is much more than a method of communication. Permeated within it are traditions, customs,
and legacies of one s culture. The identity of an entire population is in the distinct vocalizations of
their native language. Unfortunately, as a wave of immigrants enters the United States at young ages,
many face language barriers that pose significant challenges. Language barriers affect a multitude of
immigrant populations to different degrees. This, in turn, causes many of them to abandon not only
their native tongue but a piece of their ethnic identity, as well. In Maxine Hong Kingston s personal
narrative, The Language of Silence, she describes the difficulties she experienced throughout her
childhood with a language barrier as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This was because she was afraid that we would be rejected from professional careers if our English
wasn t unaccented, fluent, and similar in refinement to the working class whites. With time, I became
a fluent English speaker with a developed Central American accent but like, any other young girl, I
thought nothing of it. That is until one event, in particular, occurred that would cast a shadow of
embarrassment onto my Spanish language. This event not only led me to desert my entire native
language but a sense of my cultural identity, as well.
Every afternoon, my mother would take my siblings and I down to the community park. It was a
tradition of sorts. The leaves on the trees were brown, only days past Halloween. I sat under the
dappled afternoon sun and played in the sand. On this particular day, however, a young girl
approached me. Confused, I offered her a friendly smile but was, instead, greeted by the sand she
kicked in my direction. Once my mother took notice of this, she came forward and placed a hand over
the young girl s leg without physically touching her. Stop, she said. With this one word, the girl ran
off. After a minute or so, an older woman approached my mother and I, with a string of curse words. It

Descriptive Essay On A Fall Day
Today, the weather was very humid and warm outside for mid October. It was a comfortable
temperature outside, so I decided to take my fall jacket off because I did not want to be too hot as I
was walking around the market. I m estimating that it was approximately mid to low 20 s in
temperature today, so whenever a breeze arose, it was refreshing because it was pretty warm outside. I
decided that today I would take a walk through the dessert sections of the market before going to sit
by the outdoor firepit. There were many vendors selling fudge and pastries, so this was something I
purchased because I was heading home that afternoon and I thought my family would enjoy these
treats. The firepit was not turned on today because it was fairly warm outside, but I still decided to sit
in one of the Adirondack chairs surrounding the firepit to take in everything that was happening
around me. It was very busy at the market around this time because it was the weekend, and
everybody was taking the opportunity to spend time with their families outside on the warm fall day. I
also noticed an older man performing a compilation of folk songs on the guitar, and a small group of
people huddled around the area listening to him perform. I started to become restless after sitting in
the chair for about ten minutes, so I decided to continue walking to one of the buildings at the farmer s
market. Throughout my childhood, my parents would usually take me and my sisters to St. Jacobs

The Alchemist By John Coelho
As soon as you begin to pursue a dream, your life wakes up and everything has meaning. Barbara Sher
s quote illustrates Paulo Coelho s attempt in The Alchemist to raise the idea that individuals should
pursue their Personal Legend and individual dreams. Coelhio uses a multitude of literary elements
such as symbolism and setting as described by Thomas C. Foster in How to Read Literature Like a
Professor. In The Alchemist, Coelho uses his characters as symbols to manifest his overall theme to
engage in following your personal legend. The way Coelho s illustrates his theme throughout his work
can be interpreted as both realistic and problematic. Throughout Santiago s journey along with
personal experience, the reader can validate Coelho s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This symbolism becomes apparent while Santiago observes his flock and notices that the sheep never
make any decisions and are only concerned with getting food and water. The sheep live simplistic
lifestyles, just coexisting without making any hard decisions. Along with symbolism, Coelho uses the
setting of his novel to build on his belief. The Alchemist takes place in a desert, where Santiago
experiences unique difficulties when pursuing his personal legend. The desert becomes a metaphor for
the obstacles and hardships that stand in the way of achieving one s dreams. The importance of the
setting of a literary work is emphasized by Foster when he states, Geography can also define or even
develop a character (175). Coelho uses both symbolism and setting to support his overall belief of
pursuing ones personal legend. Symbolism in The Alchemist develops the idea individuals should
pursue their dreams or they will live a safe, boring life rather than fufilling their soul purpose in the
world. Setting is used to signify that in pursuing your legend, you may face difficulties, but you
should never stop pursuing your dreams as Santiago continued his pursuit. Not only does Coelho use
symbolism and setting to further prove his theme, he uses his characters to manifest his notion.
Santiago is the ideal individual who listens to omens in order to understand the language of the soul of
the world and achieve his personal legend. Santiago

One more painting by Artemisia in which depicts not the injustice and her fight for female integrity,

The first thing one notices when looking at this picture is the darkness in color. The darkness of the
room in the painting represents her reflection of her violent past, but ultimately shaping her into the
woman she became. She painted herself lighter in color against the darkness of the room, looking up
in hope, doing what brings her most joy in life: painting. Artemisia s self portraits is not simply a

Her most famous work is The Book of the City of Ladies. Written in the vernacular, Christine writes
of all the injustices women face in society and how a woman could strike back. The book is as well, a
formal and lengthy response of Jean de Meun s Romance of the Rose, by defending women and
providing a wide range of strong, famous women in history to defend her argument of a strong,
independent woman. In The Book of the City of Ladies, Christine writes that ...others have said and
continue to say and write such awful, damning things about women and their ways. I was at a

wholly given up to vice. Criticism and sexism against women has Christine at a loss for words. She
expresses that the common belief of women being a vice to the world and man, is absolutely absurd.
She begins her book with this passage, and explains her goal for her contemporary woman and women
for the future. Our aim is to help you get rid of those misconceptions which have clouded your mind

Health Savings Accounts Analysis
The Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 created Health Savings Accounts (HSAs), as a tool to help
control health care costs. HSAs are tax free accounts that are designed to aid individuals in saving for
future medical expenses (NCSL, 2016). It was widely believed that individuals would spend their
health care dollars more wisely if they were spending their own money (Mayoclinic, 2016). These
savings accounts are often paired with a high deductible health plans and now have become the most
common type of Consumer Driven Health Plans (CDHP) (LoSasso, Shah Frogner, 2010). The savings
account is funded with pretax dollars which are used to pay for health expenditures. The accounts

An individual might find themselves in the position in which they may have to use after tax dollars to
fund their HSA. In addition to individuals should not depend on their HSA as a supplemental
retirement vehicle (Sedhom, 2008). As an accounts balance grows, individuals may be tempted to
avoid medical care. Thus these individuals who chose to ignore their health may delay treatment and
force themselves into an extremely costly situation. HSAs do offer choices for consumers and may
have a continued place in the future of medicine. HSAs have changed the landscape of how the health
care system in the United States works. Pricing is driven by competition and HSAs are an avenue of
approach. Currently, HSAs have spurred competition in the financial sector due to financial groups
catering to investors (Klug Chianese, 2010). No one knows what the future holds, but the current data
supports HSAs to be a success. I personally am still wary of them and I feel the verdict has yet to be

balance of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in a combined methodologies research
study. It is interesting to note that, one clear practical issue in combining both methods is the issue
whether the combined methodologies are genuinely integrated (Bryman, 2007). Bryman further
argued, to what extent do researchers who combined both methodologies analyse, interpret and write
up their research in a way that both qualitative and quantitative components are mutually integrated.
Moreover, when combining both methods often led to the issue of each qualitative and quantitative

underutilising the data collected. Not being able to integrate both methods would then make any
researcher not being able to make most of the data that have been collected. Additionally, this is
supported by Borkan (2011), where he suggested that different audiences, reviewers and journals for

Central State University s Theatre Production Performed...
Metropolitan State University s Theatre Production performed, God s Country. This play was written
by Steven Dietz in 1988. It revolved around a white supremacist group called The Order. This group
was led by Robert Jay Matthews and during the presence of The Order, Matthews organized the
members to perform various illegal acts to earn money for the groups cause. The illegal acts led to a
court trial that occurs during the play because The Order, was being prosecuted for the assassination of
radio host, Alan Berg. During MSU Denver s production of God s Country, the elements of the play
that stood out the most were: the success of one particular character, growing to dislike a character,
and the small amount of props that were used.
On opening night of God s Country, produced by Metropolitan s Theatre, one character seemed to be
more successful than any of the other characters and that was the boy. The boy in this production was
portrayed by a girl, but gave an outstanding and very believable performance. At the beginning of the
play there was a scene where all the kids were playing recess games, but the boy was so much more
believable in this scene than any of the other characters. This girl was dressed like a boy, no makeup,
and her movements were so well performed to distinguish her true self from the boy in which she
played. It was so believable that for awhile, you were not quite sure if this actress was either a younger
boy or a student at MSU Denver.

The Significance Of The Ten Duel Commandments By Lin-Mel...
It s a simple catchy song which always makes a person who knows proper dueling etiquette cringe,
especially with the songs before and after adding to the heavy sense of historical inaccuracy. While the
intent of the Ten Duel Commandments is to give the modern audience some knowledge on how
dueling is done, Lin Mel Miranda has many things wrong within this attempt. He gives a modern
viewer an incorrect assumption of the process of proper pistol dueling. The song gives a list of ten
things in a specific order, a parody of the Ten Commandments, leading the listener to believe the
challenge is first. This is sadly out order and very misleading. The second point is happily a bit more
reliable information. You do have a second handle your negotiations, although he left out a few crucial
elements. In the description of the duel itself, we have a couple of here and there discrepancies that
finish making this song detrimental to the true understanding of historical duels of this era. The Ten
Commandments of the Old Testament is well known to almost everyone in the modern American
public given most of our founding was on Christian doctrine and traditions. This also ties into the
amount of top ten lists that are so popular in American Culture, which has lead to the modern viewer s
preconceived notion that something listed as Number 1 is the first and most important thing in the list
given. In the song, point number one is The Challenge demands satisfaction. If they apologize

Theme Of Duality In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Gothic novels tackle many aspects of the Victorian era which was between 1837 to 1901. Such aspects
were then translated into tropes of different gothic novels. Duality, Masculinity, Secrecy, Sexuality,
Mystery, Suspense, Rationalism Vs Irrationalism and Supernatural beings Vs Human Beings and
many more were all important tropes to their respective novels. The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde was one of the driving forces behind the trope of Duality, published in 1886 by Robert
Louis Stevenson. The book was written in the form of an Allegorical novel, which meant that the
novel had an extended metaphor. One of the main messages conveyed through the book was duality,
the idea of 2 separate entities residing in the same person. Good being their gentlemanly

Although this tension is an old story, Zeiler takes it further and argues that the Commonwealth had a
major hand in shaping the GATT order (p.197). It is a complex story of negotiations taking place
under conditions of extreme difficulty, and the author has worked diligently in the American, British
and Commonwealth country archives.
There is, however, a lot that raises the eyebrows of the economic historian. Within a few lines of the
opening we read that, global business leaders ... seek a commercial regime unfettered by barriers .
This is rather the antithesis of the conventional understanding of businessmen almost invariably (and
nowhere more so than in the US), seeking protection. And running against the conventional view
(without seemingly noticing) is the idea that America is the home and inspiration of free trade. The
British in the 1930s opted for, Regulated, rather than American style market, capitalism ... (p.20). Or
again, Free trade frightened the British (p.39). And richest of all, The British simply would not accept
the free trade doctrine (p.24). Zeiler suggests that free trade was key to the American economy
ignoring the fact that America had been one of the most protectionist countries for most of its history.
This is unfortunate and results in a distortion of the argument, for of the GATT negotiations Zeiler say
s the British were not willing partners in pursuit of lower trade barriers. At certain times that may have

Political Party Viewpoints
Quite often, people are eager to proclaim whether they are a democrat or a republican, yet many of
these people use these political terms because they have been told to, rather than actually resonating
with the beliefs of said political party. Preferably, voters should research issues most important to
them and figure out their own stances, then commit to the political party with the most similar
viewpoint by examining the party s platform from a reliable source. Political parties are voluntary,

lack of funding for these programs causes many people to hurt financially. This also flaws the
Republican idea of how to fix the national debt. The Republicans believe that trickle down economics

As major airlines go bankrupt, opportunities to take over the flights and collect on that revenue that
was going to the majors can be realized for Sky West. It can go global. External threats include rising
fuel costs, and limited domestic opportunities.
7. The company s future is promising. Revenues are increasing and its load factor is improving.
Operating expenses are decreasing and compared to other regional airlines, SkyWest offers better
benefits and compensation packages. It is performing efficiently; more so as each year passes.
8. SkyWest, Inc. must seek global markets to enter that allow joint ventures and potential for growth to
strengthen the company s competitive position. I would recommend the management stay on top of
technological advances in aircraft and purchase fuel efficient jets to lower fuel costs. Also, a plan to
consolidate ASA offices with the offices of SkyWest would cut down operating costs.

The consumer then proceeds to act upon these urges. Compulsive consumers often engage in
compulsive buying practices to compensate for unhappy events, and/or low self esteem (O Guinn and
Faber, 1989). Some researchers consider compulsive buying to be a dichotomous behavior (Faber and
O Guinn, 1992); meaning consumers are classified either as compulsive or non compulsive. However,
research by Edwards (1993) indicates that compulsive buying, like many other consumer behaviors,
occurs on a continuum. She found that compulsive buying ranges from non compulsive, to
recreational, borderline compulsive, compulsive, and addicted buying. In other words, consumers can
experience no compulsive consumption tendencies, some compulsive consumption tendencies, or
chronic levels of this behavior. The act of buying may temporarily elevate the mood and self esteem of
a compulsive buyer; however it is often followed by feelings of shame or depression. Wicklund and
Gollwitzer (1982) stated that people may use symbols to build or maintain a complete self definition
as part of a commitment to a self defining goal. Consumers may compulsively buy products to match
their subjective perceptions of themselves with a socially desirable or required appearance as a self
defining goal (Elliott, 1994). Number of people experience compulsive behaviors like shopping, drug
abuse, eating, gambling and variety of other obsessive compulsiveness.

Fictional villains are generally defined as evil, and it is questioned whether this indication leaves for reason to believe that being evil is popular. These characters come in various shapes and sizes, albeit they habitually have similar schemes. Villains dominate a penchant to act upon impulses triggered by greed or a lust for revenge against the protagonist, one that has usually been derived from severed relationships in the past. The Joker, consequently, is ordained to be more of a villain than Playdoh, as his practices are more villainous and disastrous in opposition to Playdoh. It is the cause of much animosity between the three major monotheistic religions. Since the beginning, the Christians, Muslims and Jews have all claimed that Jerusalem belongs to them due to their religious texts. According to the Bible, Jerusalem is where Jesus Christ was nailed to the cross and crucified for his crimes, blasphemy against Judaism and for treason against Rome. Jerusalem and the area surrounding it are heavily embedded in Christianity and Judaism. Jerusalem is sacred to the Jews because the First Temple, at the site known as the Temple Mount today, was built by King Solomon, and Mount Moriah is where Abraham almost sacrificed his son and ... Jesus was brought to Jerusalem, in his youth and adolescence, to be presented to God in the Temple, and to partake with his family in the Festival of the Passover. In his adulthood, he traveled to Jerusalem to preach to the poor, heal the sick and protect the people within the walls that surrounded Jerusalem. It is also the location of Jesus Last Supper, his arrest in Gethsemane, his trial, his crucifixion at Golgotha, his burial, his resurrection and ascension to heaven. With the significance of Jerusalem being very high in the eyes of the Christian faith, there was very little doubt that there would be a battle to maintain or regain control of Jerusalem. Nine of the main conflicts, to preserve Jerusalem for the Christian faith, are known throughout history as the Crusades. During each crusade the theme was the same; recover the lands that were taken by people who were believed to be the enemies of God. The Crusades were fought to restore all holy lands and the lands that were once controlled by Christians back to their rightful owners . The importance of each of these consumables depends upon the technological processes adopted at each mill. In a classic integrated mill, coal and iron ore are the main consumables. In semi integrated mills, scrap iron is the mainstay. An integrated mill comprises four basic operations reduction, refining, solidification, and rolling to convert iron ore into semi finished or finished (rolled) steel products. Reduction The objective is to convert iron ore naturally occurring in the form of ferrous oxide into pig iron. In this operation, a coker converts coal into coke that is then ... Alloying elements Metals such as zinc, tin, chrome and aluminum are employed in steel alloy production. A steel mill uses industrial gases extensively. In addition to the jet of oxygen fed converters in integrated mills, oxygen is frequently injected into blast furnaces and electric furnances to improve overall operating conditions. Given the volume of oxygen utilized, steel mills usually house one or more oxygen producing units. This used to be integrated vertically into the steelworks themselves. However, in recent years, initiatives have been widely employed to outsource this operation to specialized companies. There are also non integrated manufacturers which operate via a single processing phase: reduction or rolling. In the first case are pig iron producers, the so called ironers, that utilize coal in blast furnaces to make pig iron. In William Goldman s The Princess Bride, satire is evident through his use of irony and ridicule, which he uses to mock different aspects of traditional fairy tales. Archetypes are not employed, highlighting the absurdness of key components of these stories. Situational irony is also used to satericalize the flaws of several characters, mocking their flaws, and making them laughable. Thomas Hobbes Government He started out on the philosophy of political science while on his trips and visits to other countries outside of England to listen to other scientists and learn different forms of government. While studying, Thomas Hobbes wondered about why people were allowing themselves to be ruled and what would a great form of government for England. He reasoned that people were naturally wicked and shouldn t be trusted to govern themselves because they were selfish creatures and would do anything to better their position and social status. These people, when left alone will go back to their evil impulses to get a better advantage over others. So Thomas Hobbes concluded that the best form of government would an absolute monarchy, which is a government which gives all power to the king or queen to provide direction and leadership to make sure the country doesn t go into turmoil. To support his ideas, Thomas Hobbes asked the question, If men are naturally in a state of war, why are they carrying arms and have keys to lock their doors. In other words, even when the country is at peace, the people are still using things which can get them a better advantage over others and keeping their own interests a secret from others. The OECD average was 1.56%, Canada came in at 1.15%, the leading country was Denmark at 4.11%. This shows that Canada has fallen behind others in environmental taxation and that changes need to be made. However, taxes alone will not be able to solve the issue by itself, a multi pronged approach is necessary. Taxes are one piece of the puzzle; quality and quantity standards combined with the taxes will force the business to make tough decisions and force them to innovate and consider clean technology options. Cap and trade systems may also be used with taxes, allowing business to emit a certain amount and make market decisions to purchase and emit more; and taxing them on certain levels. 1 The next negative externality to address is the location of hazardous waste sites and the options to deal with them. Genre are dependent on different factors such as who the director is, story line, and audience expectations (Azia, n.d). Genres are types or categories and genre films that are usually recognizable as part of a certain genre (Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014, section 4.1). To better understand genre there are several examples to look at. When watching a fantasy film we know that within the movie we will expect to see unreal, magical, or impossible situations, characters or settings often overlapping with various other genres (GoodyKoontz, 2014). Numerous subgenres exist within the musical genre from musical comedy to musical drama to animated musicals to musical documentaries and concert films (Goodykoontz, B., Jacobs, 2014, section 4.4). A scene that helps classify Snow White and the Seven dwarfs into the animated musical genre is the scene where all the dwarfs are working hard at the jewelry mine and once work gets over they walk home in a single line singing the song heigh ho heigh ho its home from work we go as they dance and skip on their walk home from work. Another scene that illustrates a musical/fantasy genre is the scene where Snow White discovers the dwarf s cabin and with help from the animals of the forest she starts to clean the house while singing whistle while you work. I m sure we would all love if our animals could help us with chores around the house but that will most likely never happen. This is a perfect example of a movie with fantasy genre. The fantasy genre has events that occur outside the ordinary laws that operate within the universe. Magic is central to the fantasy genre and fantasy stories often involve journeys and quests like the wicked queen on a quest to kill Snow White. There are three different ways that fantasy writers set up their worlds. Sacred Texture Analysis Essay Introduction To explore the use of innovation and creativity in leading the early Christian communities from insular spirituality to a global social or religious force, I am using the method of Sacred Texture Analysis. Analysis of sacred text is a way of systemically probing dynamics across a spectrum of relationships between the humans and the divine (Robbins, 1996, pg.4). The sacred texture of a text is the formation and nurturing of religious community (Robbins, 1996, pg.127). Therefore, socio rhetorical criticism extends intertextuality to include cultural discourse (Gowler, 1999, pg.197). So the challenge is how to understand Apostle Peter s organizational leadership and then apply these concepts to today s organizational leadership. Trait theories are based upon the concept that leaders are simply born with a set of traits such as social, personal, and personality traits and also physical characteristics that outline how they are as a leader (Baack, 2012). Nardelli had a good foundation of traits for being a leader but there were some personality traits that kept him from being a great leader. He had a strong desire for setting and achieving goals but his interactions with people, employees and customers alike, were what caused him problems. Robert Nardelli was not known as being a personable individual and tended to focus more on the numbers that the stores were generating rather than the people that were providing those numbers. As a leader it is important to be balanced between the two aspects as you cannot have one without the other. It is impossible to lead people if there is no desire to relate to them and this is the issue that Nardelli was faced with. In recent years however, there has been a growing perception by cancer specialists and patients that the onset and treatment of cancer may be affected by psychological factors. A new field of research called psycho oncology has emerged to investigate how the mind can slow down, or even reverse, the progress of cancer. The results from such studies however, have not always been conclusive, and in the case of retrospective studies, have often proved ... Many studies concentrated on women suffering from breast cancer, and consisted of interviewing them after a significant event involving their cancer (such as diagnosis, or an operation). The patients were then followed up after a number of years. However, the results often proved contradictory, as has occurred in several retrospective studies. In one well known case, 16Ramirez et al. (1989) found that there was a prognostic association between severe life stressors and the recurrence of breast cancer. Barraclough et al. (1992) 17 on the other hand, 18 found that psychosocial adversity such as depression, or a severe life event, was not conducive to a relapse of cancer and this conclusions has since been supported. 19 There is good evidence for any relation between stressful life events and breast cancer (McGee 1999, p.1015). Certain studies found that patients could be classified into different psychological groups, and that a pattern emerged in the life span of the patients in each of the groups. In one study, Greer et al. This symbolism becomes apparent while Santiago observes his flock and notices that the sheep never make any decisions and are only concerned with getting food and water. The sheep live simplistic lifestyles, just coexisting without making any hard decisions. Along with symbolism, Coelho uses the setting of his novel to build on his belief. The Alchemist takes place in a desert, where Santiago experiences unique difficulties when pursuing his personal legend. The desert becomes a metaphor for the obstacles and hardships that stand in the way of achieving one s dreams. The importance of the setting of a literary work is emphasized by Foster when he states, Geography can also define or even develop a character (175). Coelho uses both symbolism and setting to support his overall belief of pursuing ones personal legend. Symbolism in The Alchemist develops the idea individuals should pursue their dreams or they will live a safe, boring life rather than fufilling their soul purpose in the world. Setting is used to signify that in pursuing your legend, you may face difficulties, but you should never stop pursuing your dreams as Santiago continued his pursuit. Hence, it is important to have the balance of both qualitative and quantitative methodologies in a combined methodologies research study. It is interesting to note that, one clear practical issue in combining both methods is the issue whether the combined methodologies are genuinely integrated (Bryman, 2007). Bryman further argued, to what extent do researchers who combined both methodologies analyse, interpret and write up their research in a way that both qualitative and quantitative components are mutually integrated. Moreover, when combining both methods often led to the issue of each qualitative and quantitative method are treated as separate domains instead of being treated as one method. It s a simple catchy song which always makes a person who knows proper dueling etiquette cringe, especially with the songs before and after adding to the heavy sense of historical inaccuracy. While the intent of the Ten Duel Commandments is to give the modern audience some knowledge on how dueling is done, Lin Mel Miranda has many things wrong within this attempt. He gives a modern viewer an incorrect assumption of the process of proper pistol dueling. The song gives a list of ten things in a specific order, a parody of the Ten Commandments, leading the listener to believe the challenge is first. This is sadly out order and very misleading. The second point is happily a bit more reliable information. You do have a second handle your negotiations, although he left out a few crucial elements. By avoiding the conflict, you essentially pretend that it never happened or doesn t exist. Turning away from conflict is inadvisable because it means are turning away from an opportunity to grow. • 43. Identify Underlying Causes And Theories Of The Field Of... Identify Underlying Causes and Theories In our previous discussion, we determined the specific area of research, which was how the field of computer science is invaluable to the field of medical research. The result of this came from analyzing three research papers that focused on the past and recent use of computer science within the conjunction of the life science field. It showed that with new technology rapidly growing, computer science has not only become extremely important to the medical science field, it has become an extremely vital part of the life science field. Now that we have accomplished this, to adequately concentrate on this we will continue our research by further conducting a review of more literature on the underlying ... (ii) distributed computing... (iii) computational simulation... (iv) algorithms (theoretical and experimental aspects); (v) applied bioinformatics (analysis pipelines, tools, applications); (vi) artificial and computational intelligence (machine learning, agents, evolutionary techniques, bio inspired methods) (Beretta, Cannataro Dondi, 2015). Each one of the next three research studies that we will be analyzing relates to our current research study, due to the facts they all are a part of the actors use, depend on computer science to continue to increase the quality of life. The performers in the life science field consist of clinicians, biologists, biomedical engineers, bioinformaticians and many other interested in life science related topics, and of course patients and (more in general) citizens (Veltri, 2015, p. 29). Each one of the three new research studies on conceptual and theoretical knowledge article are influenced by Beretta, Cannataro Dondi, (2015) analyze we did on the research article 8th Workshop on Biomedical and Bioinformatics Challenges for Computer Science (p.680).
