The circulatory system, also known as the body's transport system, consists of the heart, blood, vessels, and lymphatic system. Blood carries oxygen, nutrients to cells and removes carbon dioxide and other wastes. There are two types of circulatory systems - open systems where blood leaves vessels and bathes organs directly, and closed systems where blood remains inside vessels and flows from arteries to veins through capillaries. Most vertebrates including humans have a closed circulatory system.
