The purpose of my primary research was to get information first hand on what people like about
magazines and what they dint like. I asked ten people and 100% of them were aged 16-20. This
therefore means that my target audience for this magazine is this age. The 10 people I asked were
mainly male, therefore this means that my magazine will be more male orientated.

After asking 10 people I
found out that 50% of them
earned £100 or less per
month, whereas 30%
earned 250-500 pounds per
month. 20% of these 16-25
year olds earned £100-£250
per month.
60 % of the 16-25 year olds I
interviews were unemployed
whilst 40% were employed.
70 % of the 10 people I
interviewed were Male, and
30% was female.

Colour for Magazine
Colour for Magazine
I interviewed ten people
and asked them to tick
three colours which they
thought would look good
with a music magazine. 6
people said that a black or a
grey/silver magazine would
look good. 4 people said
that a blue or green
magazine would look good.
3 people said that a red or
yellow would suit the
magazine whilst one person
said orange, pink purple or
white would look good.
I asked in my questionnaire
what the best parts about
magazines were. 6 people
ticked that pictures were the
best part. 4 people said that
Freebies were the best. 3
people ticked that live
reviews, information and
horoscopes were the best
thing, whilst 3 people ticked
that the competitions, comics
and puzzles were the best.
I asked if the people I
interviewed read music
magazines. 20 % of these said
yes they did, and they read
them in a magazine form
however 80% said they did not
because they were not
interested and because of Web
2.0 more people are finding it
easier to find out about their
favourite bands by the internet
or social networking sites,
rather than buying the
magazines.

20% of the people said that
they would pay £1-£2, and
similarly 20% said they would

that they would pay £3 or

Out of the 10 people I asked,
70% of them said that they

only 30% said that they

I asked what genre of music

pop, 4 people said R N B , 3
people said house, 2 people
said rock, nobody said that
they liked classical and 1
person said they liked
country.

To summarise, looking back at my questionnaire the most popular feature that people liked about
magazines was pictures. I took into account this, and on all three of my pages used photographs, and
on the contents page used multiple in order to entice the readers. I took into consideration the
house style that the audience chose being black and silver and white, and also incorporated the
colour red. I followed the colours that the audience chose but then added the colour red to make it
more bold and eye catching, I think this colour worked best than the second favourite colours green
and blue as it makes it look more formal and more of a neutral target audience. As my questionnaire
was answered mostly by males, it had a lot of male bias answers for example the colour scheme.
After seeing how much people would pay for the magazine, the answers I received were varied. I’m
going to make the cost of my magazine £1-£2 as I think this would reach out to the target audience
being young adults. I think that the employment of the people who have answered my questionnaire
has had an effect on the price in which people are willing to pay, as 60% of the people I interviewed
were unemployed, they would be less willing to fork out for the magazine. Whereas I am aiming my
magazine to people who are from the demographics C2 – D, so they would be more willing to pay
this price for the magazine. I looked at the graph for which music my audience preferred, the genre
which was most popular was Pop, however I have gone with doing an RnB magazine, which was the
second favoured. I have done this because, there are a lot more pop magazines out nowadays then
there are RnB and I think this will reach out to a more niche audience, who would be more
interested in music, rather than a genre as popular as Pop.
