WHY REPLENISHMENT?
 Replenishment is an operation that consists in making the stock full again in order to
avoid stock-out.
 Replenishment is typically initiated by a backorder passed to a supplier or to a
manufacturer, possibly sent through EDI(Electronic data interchange).
 Excelling at replenishment enables a retailer to implement the promotional, pricing and
assortment strategies established. Not only does winning the replenishment game enable
execution of these strategies, but additional profit can be gained by minimizing inventory
levels.
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
The main objective of this study is to ensure that there are no:
 Stock-Outs ( Store should include a well-outlined replenishment system,
where critical inventory levels at a store result in swift shipments from your
distribution center or directly from a vendor ).
 Excess Inventory ( Carrying too much inventory in distribution centers or
retail stores is costly. It takes up space, employee time, utility costs and limits floor
space for selling ).
To ensure:
 Goods move Efficiently from one location to the other ( Efficiency in inventory
means the ability to quickly receive and store products as they come in and retrieve
and ship when they go out ).
 Maximize Profit Margins ( Well-managed inventory control is often a key in
meeting profit margin objectives. Gross profit margin is the difference between
revenue earned from sales and the costs of goods sold).
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
Research is the systematic investigation into and study of materials and sources in order
to establish facts and reach new conclusions.
Methodology is the systematic and theoretical analysis of the methods applied to a field of study.
What we did in our study is:
 Step 1: Identification of the area to work.
 Step 2: Review of Literature.
 Step 3: Clarification of the Problem.
 Step 4: Collection of Data.
 Step 5: Analyzing the Data.
FINDINGS OF THE STUDY
 After conducting a thorough survey on Pantaloons it is observed that it has been
perceived as a good brand. It has good customer loyalty and also attracts a large
number of new customers. However, Pantaloons should take some key things into
consideration like:
 Lack of product knowledge to salespersons (25% disappointed customers).
 Communication gap (15% disappointed customers).
 Customer Service (10% disappointed customers).
 Politeness (8% disappointed customers).
 Staff behavior (6% disappointed customers).
 Fast response rate (2% disappointed customers).
RECOMMENDATIONS
 Staff should effectively assist the customers.
 All the customers should be asked for their feedback.
 Staff should be trained in the best possible way to assist the customers with any
product related issue.
 Every customer should be given adequate assistance when he/she asks for it.
 Response rate should be faster than what it currently is.
 CSD department needs an increase in strength to handle more customers.
CONCLUSION
 The study of replenishment is of vital importance to the managers and the bosses of the
retail industry in shaping the fortunes of their organizations.
 If an item recently sold several hundred pieces for an ad that has concluded – should
several hundred more be brought in to replace what has been sold?
 What if an item is going to be discontinued next month or just completed a major season
such as candy corn in November – should replenishment blindly fill in again?
 The complexities of retail dictate that replenishment processes and solutions are more
sophisticated than this initial definition. When looking at retail replenishment, a more
appropriate definition would be “acquiring product on a recurring basis to support
anticipated need.”
 We’ve given our best shot by studying the length and breadth of Pantaloons and hopefully
our recommendations will bring a little more prosperity to Pantaloons, Bhubaneshwar
which gave us two beautiful months to cherish for a lifetime.
