1. Explain the operations of whiskbroom and push broom scanner systems with the
help of neat sketches. [16]
2. (a) Give at least eight examples for the following GIS components:
i. Hardware
ii. Software.
(b) Explain GIS work flow. [8+8]
3. Describe data organisation for vector data structures. [16]
4. Describe the process of quantizing space into equal-sized rasters called grid cells.
What impact does grid cell size have on the locational accuracy? How would you
store points, lines, and polygons using a raster system? [16]
5. Control points A and B appear on a vertical photograph taken with a camera having
a 153mm lens. The horizontal ground distance between A and B is 700m and the
elevations of A and B are 218 and 161m above sea level. The photo coordinates of
the points are
xa = +46.86mm, ya = +53.60mm, xb = -35.62mm and yb = -43.28mm. Calculate
the flying height of the photograph using the trial and error approach. [16]
