Remote controlled material handling equipment (RCMHE) allows heavy lifting tasks to be performed remotely through radio frequency or infrared signals, reducing the need for large numbers of human workers. RCMHE can be divided into narrowband radio systems which require FCC licenses, or infrared systems which provide greater safety since controls stop when the operator's view is blocked. The remote operation of cranes and other equipment provides economic and safety benefits compared to manual operation.

beam is out of sight, the beam is
obstructed and the controls turn off. That
is, the operator must always be in view of
the RCMHE, which in turns aids safety as
the full visibility of the operator over the
machine is critical.

technology there is always a chance of
interference with other signals and might
lead to accidents, Infrared remote control
makes this type of mistake impossible.
