Description Of A Police Officer
Introduction I always knew that I wanted to become a police officer, so I decided to interview a Police
Captain. I interviewed Police Captain John Carpenter of Riverside Police Department. I found him
through Riverside Police Department after looking around at the organizational chart I found online
and looking at the titles that were on the chart. The Police Captain is one rank above a Lieutenant, but
one below a Deputy Chief. A Police Captain is in charge of a certain precinct, and normally has his/her
own division. Captain Carpenter is currently in charge of investigations, such as gangs, narcotics, vice,
and intelligence units. The first portion of the paper will discuss qualities and requirements for the
position, while the second portion of the paper will go more in depth into the occupation, such as the
training required, how candidates are chosen, and salary.
Becoming a Police Officer:
Qualities and Characteristics
Discussing with Captain Carpenter, we talked about the qualities that a police officer would need to
have:
1) Hard worker
2) Dedicated
3) Team oriented (Has a partner so they need to work well with others)
4) Physically Fit
5) Good Judgement and problem solving skills
6) Good listener
7) Assertive
Experience required: In order to become a police officer, there is no experience required, however to
move up to a detective, there is a minimum of 5 10 years working on patrol before you can be part of
an investigations unit.

The Contributions Of The Romantic Image Of Charlemagne And...
The nation of Andorra credits Charlemagne for gaining their independence in their national anthem El
Gran Carlemany. The accredited newspaper, The Economist features a weekly column entitled
Charlemagne which focuses on the European Union. For many, the images of Charlemagne and the
medieval age take root in the satirical movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. But, it is dangerous to
take sensationalized history as fact. Authors such as Einhard who wrote The Life of Charlemagne, and
Notker the Stammerer who wrote The Deeds of Charlemagne are guilty of sensationalizing the life of
the Holy Roman Emperor. With their respective versions in mind, it is important to accept the
similarities of the romanticized versions as truth, while further investigating the differences in specific
details.
In order to understand the contributions of authors to the romantic image of Charlemagne and the
Medieval Ages as a whole, it is important to first examine the authors, and the advantages they
possess.. As discovered in class, Einhard was Charlemagne s friend and personal biographer. This
immediately establishes credibility to Einhard because Einhard was physically present at the events of
Charlemagne s life. As author and translator David Ganz puts it, His (Einhard s) status gives him a
particular authority as the biographer of Charlemagne, (Ganz, 2008, 5). Einhard himself argues for his
credibility in the opening paragraphs of his work, saying, I was aware that no one could write

Manliness In Sports In Not Just A Game By Dave Zirin
Manliness in sports have always been present, as Dave Zirin describes, but it is even more present
when it comes to pain and recovery. With this combination of sports and manliness, it leads to the
militarization of football, and the blind devotion that the sport gives to the military.
In one of the segments in the video Not Just a Game, Dave Zirin introduces the concept of the merger
of manliness and sports. The central theme of this argument is that in order to be a real man, one
would have to sacrifice his body, and be even more vulnerable to injury (Zurin). This is all to serve the
ultimate goal, to win the game (Zurin). However, as stated in the film, this leads to the blurring of
ethical lines, as athletes start to cheat, like take ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this argument, Zurin describes how Tillman went from sacrifice his career to serve his country,
to end up being against the war and making sure that everyone knew his position (Zurin). When
Tillman was killed overseas in conflict, the Army made sure to cover up the true events of friendly fire
with the story that Tillman died under enemy fire while charging up a hill (Zurin). Zurin goes on to
describe that, according to this militarization mindset, someone fighting heroically while not
challenging orthodoxy is more courageous that someone challenging the motivations and beliefs of a
society and of an action

Smokey Mountains Research Paper
This is my research paper over the Smokey Mountains, which are located in Tennessee and part of
North Carolina. One interesting fact about the Smokey Mountains is that it is the nation s busiest park,
that draws more than nine million visitors a year, twice the number of any other national park. What
most of the millions of people that visit usually see is the park from a mountain skimming highway
that, on a normal weekend day during the summer, draws over 50,000 people. For anyone wondering,
there is plenty of park to be explored. It s not as crowded as it sounds or as crowded as you think it
would be. For there is over 384 miles of thinly laced mountain roads that you can drive on. You can
pull to the side of the road any time that you want and start walking and exploring the way you want.
You ll never explore the whole park in one day or even one week for there is eight hundred miles of
hiking trails, from a half mile to 70 miles long. The park, which covers 800 square miles of

Example Of Motivation
Personal Example for Motivation: Motivation is very important part of a person s development. For
me motivation was a person who played cricket with me. He was my friend subordinate and my guide.
He was elder to me so I was like a younger brother for him. I had plenty of ups and downs in my
cricket career but he always stood besides me. He used to share everything with him. He never let me
quit the game because he knew what the game meant to me, my father and my grandfather. I almost
quit the game 5 times in my career for not performing well, but he always said it was just a bad day,
bad time and always motivated for good times and by making me remember my good times my good
innings. He said bad time will go away and good time will come and ... Show more content on

Instead I would relate to the group project we do in our master s. I have been part of many different
groups with different nationalities. I have closely observed each and every person how he or she
performs, what is the procedure and stuff. The first question I wanted to know was the approach how
people approach things differently. Its great to get to know different people different culture their
approaches and mainly their thinking. One thing which I observed in class is when given the
opportunity to the class to form their own groups nationality is what people choose and that hurts me.
I have other 5 Indians with me but we always want to work with others I thinks that is what
international business is all about working in a diverse team, some of them have bad examples to post
that a person led the performance down but it always happen that way. The dynamics of team work is
the main part of success. We had a marketing project to do but we as a team never got well with each
other. Everyone had their priorities and thus we performed bad. Everyone wanted to go home and do
their part alone instead of sitting together and sharing and creating ideas. This was the worst group

Comparing The Book Thief And The Boy In Striped Pyjamas
How is innocence portrayed and corrupted in The Book Thief and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas?
The Book Thief, directed by Brian Percival, and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, directed by Mark
Herman, are both films that share similar themes and are focused on the time of war during Hitler s
reign of power. In both films, the idea of innocence is portrayed and corrupted through the friendship
of child protagonists, influence of father figures, characterisation of children in war and the narrative
perspectives. Symbolism, motifs and themes in these two films are explored to emphasise how
innocence is portrayed and corrupted throughout the texts. The Boy in The Striped Pyjamas reflects on
the horrifying events of the holocaust where the protagonist, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The innocence of Bruno is portrayed through the stylistic device, dramatic irony, such as Not fair, me
stuck by my own and you have all your friends in there. The innocent friendship between the two boys
leads them to their deaths in the ending scene, mise en scene comes into place as the scene shows the
empty room with only the clothes and boots that were left after the boys and other Jews got gassed. In
this scene, there is a form of diegetic music being played and the film finishes with a fading camera
shot, that creates a heart breaking tone to the film and the audience is able to feel the loss of innocence
after the boys death. With a similar end of war scene in The Book Thief, after the bombings that
occurred, Liesel lost the boy she loved which is another way that the idea of innocence has been
corrupted. Within this scene the director uses a bird s eye view angle of the death of Rudy and mise en
scene is also used in this text, placing Liesel sitting with Rudy in the middle of the ruins of their street,
leaving the audience to feel heartbroken just as The Boy in Striped Pyjamas does with the death of
both boys. Although, the friendship between child protagonists in The Book Thief, Liesel and Rudy,
starts as an innocent friendship and remains that way through most of the film, their friendship is
explored through playful love whereas the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel is explored through
boundaries

Economic Trinity
Jesus Christ s death and resurrection play an extremely critical role in the revelation of the Trinity
because both of these events reveal the immanent Trinity and the economic Trinity to humanity.
Without Jesus death and resurrection, humanity would have absolutely no idea that God is tri personal;
instead, they would still only comprehend God as a solitary being. Jesus death and resurrection shatter
this notion and replace it with a much more dynamic and fecund understanding of God. In order to
understand God s triune nature, it is first important to look at the economic Trinity. In creation, it is
possible to come to know that there is a God, and this takes place through nature (i.e. natural
theology). This knowledge about God, however, is limited and it does not fully reveal him or his
triune identity. The only way that humanity was able to initially comprehend God s true identity is
through his actions in history. Through his saving actions in history (i.e. salvation history), God
revealed himself gradually to humanity: 1.) to the people of Israel through their history; 2.) in the
person of Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The immanent Trinity refers to the inner and eternal triune life of God. The immanent Trinity leads to
the revelation of the economic Trinity and vice versa, as Karl Rahner would say. The difference
between these two perspectives on the Trinity is in terms of their emphasis on the triune God s divine
activity. The economic Trinity emphasizes the Trinity s activity in creation, whereas the immanent
Trinity emphasizes the Trinity s internal activity among the three divine persons. Despite the
knowledge that we have about the immanent Trinity, the Trinity is still a mystery that becomes more
incomprehensible as a person begins to comprehend it (i.e. the principle of analogy: the more we
know, the more we realize how much we do not

Ecological Theory And Social Work
Hospital social work is time limited and the focus could easily be more directed at problems rather
than solutions. Patients enter the hospital with a physical problem and desire to leave with answers. In
this type of environment the focus can be on the physical ailment rather than additional factors that
may be contributing to physical distress. Environmental factors can promote well being or become a
barrier to wellness. An ecological perspective provides a lens to view patient systems in a broader
context.
Ecological perspective is a useful framework in which to view the individual in context with their
environment. According to Rogers (2013) ecological theory was originally developed by a
psychologist, Urie Bronfenbrenner in 1979 (p. 42). A fundamental tenet of ecological theory is that
people are actively involved with their environments and their perceptions of the environment
significantly affects their well being (p. 42).
Ecological theory describes four levels of the environment that interconnect and impact people.
Moving from the most intimate individual system to a broader inclusion you can identify the many
systems that play a role in individual s lives and well being. These interactions could be harmonious
and create homeostasis or could be disharmonious and cause stress.
First, the microsystem level encompasses roles and relationships in a person s immediate environment
(Rogers, 2013, p. 43). For example, Maria s relationships and home living situation

Examples Of Perverted Language In Animal Farm
Animal Farm FRQ
1. Orwell uses perverted language throughout the book to make the leaders manipulate the other
citizens or animals in the book. An obvious example of this is how Napoleon uses Squealer as a
propaganda speaker. Napoleon uses Squealer special skill of talking to animals and getting them to his
side. Orwell also uses the example of Snowball. Snowball was a spy for Jones Napoleon said. When
we see him we just kill him (Orwell 65). The animals at first don t believe it like Boxer by saying that
the animals gave him the Animal Hero First Class. However, the animals get swayed by Squealer s
propaganda and just go with what he says. The final example is when after Snowball leaves, Napoleon
says to build the windmill. He uses ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Boxer is especially the hard working class because he always woke up early for others and did extra
work. Fredrick is like Hitler and fights Animal Farm. Pilkington is also an enemy of Russia and is
helping Frederick. Snowball is like Leon Trotsky a smart politician that aims to improve Russia.
4.The political allegory in the book comes out in the book in many different places. The political
allegory is that Orwell mocks the Revolution that changed Russians into the USSR. The person who
changed it was a man named Karl Marx. He started a revolution that two different classes very
different. He thought that the world was a struggle of a social class and another. This example is what
Old Major didn t want to happen but happened because of Napoleon. He turned animals against each
other and slaughtered those who disagreed with what he thought was right.
5. Old Major had a dream in the first chapter which he prophesied things that would happen. He first
prophesied that the farm would be run by the animals and also that they would drive Jones out. He
however didn t prophesied that napoleon would take over control and kill many animals in the farm.
Old Major also let the animals sing Beast of England which is like the chant for the animals on Animal
Farm.
6. The narrator is the person who commentates and describes the book in a second hand experience for
the readers. The narrator causes different ironies like when Boxer was sent to the Butcher

The Real Life Example Of Shared Knowledge And Personal...
How do you gain shared knowledge? Let us take a cake for example; the cake is made up of many
different ingredients. A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to make the cake
step by step. Looking at this shared knowledge shapes your personal knowledge and next time you
might not need the recipe because the recipe would be part of your own personal knowledge. If shared
knowledge is knowledge that has been received from people or sources around you then personal
knowledge is knowledge that is gained directly through firsthand experience or observation .
Shared knowledge usually shapes personal knowledge. Even when an inexperienced cook has a
recipe, they might still not be able to make a good cake. Looking at this example we can see that the
shared knowledge being the recipe can shape the personal knowledge of both the cooks and because
the experienced cook has more personal knowledge, he is able to come up with a better cake than the
inexperienced cook.
Let use an example from cooking to illustrate how shared knowledge can shape personal knwledge.

Life in the Ghettos
Bodies of men, women, and children lay strewn in great disarray (Life in the ghettos 4 5). Others lay
mortally wounded, crying out for help, moaning with pain, with head wounds or limbs torn from their
bodies. The ghettos started in 1939 . During the holocaust, a ghetto was a special section of a city in
which Jewish people were forced to live . They Jews in the ghettos were identified by their yellow
badges worn. Within the ghetto the lives of the people oscillated in the desperate struggle between
survival and death from disease or starvation. There were several families living in one apartment, and
the Germans would try to starve them to death. Life in the ghettos was unbearable.

The waste was thrown out on the streets with all the trash (Life in the Ghettos). In addition, very few
people had access to water, which soon made them become filthy. Thus, it was hard to prevent
becoming diseased when living in such poor conditions. They all suffered endless infections illness,
vermin, infestation, dehydration, and low morale (Ghetto Life 30). Lacking proper medication, the
ghettos physicians did their very best administer aid to the people whose symptoms were discovered
earlier on. Even in the winter, heating was very scarce. Many froze in to death. Having very few
things to live off of, tens of thousands died in the ghettos from either starvation, illness, or cold.
However, all of these things did not stop them from being forced to work.
The Jews were forced to produce goods. Some Jews were accosted and ordered to work whenever a
specific organization required them, while others were working in workshops. More than 10,000 Jews
were working as carpenters, tailors, and shoemakers. Carpentry workshops would produce new
furniture from from timber taken from Jews homes (Work Within Ghettos). On the other hand, in the
fur work shop, workers made fur coats from garments also taken from the Jews. In the Lodz ghetto,
the adult population worked twelve hours a day. If a person was not fit for work, he did not receive
food tickets (Ghettos). That meant death by starvation. Over 75,000 people in the ghetto died of
disease and

The Effect Of Aggregate Demand On The Economy
As supported by the minutes released from the November meeting of the Federal Open market
Committee, the economy continues to strengthen and looks as though it will remain healthy through
the foreseeable future. The economy has returned to normalcy in terms of Consumer Price since the
hurricanes hit Florida and Texas, as evidenced by the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers:
Gasoline(all types) which is portrayed in the graph below. The FOMC has also reported that inflation
is projected to remain below the two percent for at least the next two quarters. The the inflation rate is
expected to increase to two percent by the medium term which will stabilize it at the Fed s target goal.
This growth in the inflation rate is demonstrated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concern with the current slow growth of the Fed Funds Rate is that there is a similar pattern as
there was prior to the decline in 2008, where inflation tanked and the Fed Funds Rate, which was high
at 4.24% was not enough to halt the inflation drop. The similar pattern in inflation and the Fed Funds
Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does not increase
the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of another recession
increases. Although it would not be as extensively damaging as the recession in 2008, a recession
would be nonetheless detrimental to the economy, as we would be set back in all the economical
progress that has been made in the past 10 years, as shown in the graphs above. Currently, the Federal
Reserve has set the rate to rest at a target range of 1 to 1 1/4 percent. The Federal Open Market
Committee acknowledged in their November meeting that inflation has more headway to make until it
is at the two percent mark they have set as a long term target. This situation contains both positive and
negative elements. A low inflation rate benefits consumer confidence, because consumers are easily
able to manage the gradual inflation and do not see change reflected in day to day consumption since
inflation rises slowly. However, with a low Federal Funds Rate, and the potential for inflation to
decline for any

A Major Threat Of An Economy Comes From Climate Change
A major threat in an economy comes from climate change. Excessive rain or warmer than expected
winters, increase the risk for a lot of companies, mainly in the solar and energy sector, and ultimately
affects their revenues. As the wind and solar industry continues to grow, investors are injecting more
capital in order to organize this industry by way of decreasing the risks inherent to it. Accordingly, and
as more money is invested in these markets, more investors and stakeholders are looking for better
risk management techniques that could protect their assets and ensure a steady flow in revenue.
Derivatives are financial instruments used to transfer the risk associated with the variation in the
underlying asset to a third party inclined at accepting that risk, but in exchange for a premium ; thus,
the payoff from derivatives depends on the value of this underlying asset. Consequently, the protection
or insurance paid from a certain derivative depends on the level of an index, as opposed to traditional
insurance that depends on real losses.
A unique type of derivatives is Weather Derivatives that identify their payouts based on certain
weather conditions that unfavorably affect the revenues of a business. Weather derivatives, unlike
conventional derivatives that are based on tradable assets such as stocks, bonds, currencies, etc., have
weather as the underlying variable that is considered as non negotiable; implying that the aim of
weather derivatives is to manage

The Dolphin Is A Breed Of Dolphin
Maui s dolphin is a breed of dolphin that is slowly heading toward extinction, as they are a very
endangered subspecies (1). On the North West coast of the North Island in New Zealand (between
Dargaville and New Plymouth) lays isolated areas, which is where the Maui dolphin can be found,
normally found in groups of approximately 1 to 5 dolphins within about 5 nautical miles of the shore.
(2). Maui s dolphin is the smallest breed of dolphins; they range in size from approximately 1.2 1.7m
and weigh roughly around 50kg (3)(4). Majority of the dolphin is coloured a light grey (back and
sides), whilst having a white brush of colour along the sides of its body. They have an identifiable
dorsal fin as it is more rounded compared to most dolphin fins that are sickle shaped (5)(6). They feed
on small fish such as squid, flatfish, and cod, therefore not making too big an impact on the food
chain. Over the recent years Maui dolphins have declined in numbers from approximately 150 in
2004, down to 55 Maui s Dolphin observed in 2012 (7)(8). According to A risk assessment of threats

Key Organizational Principles Of Law Enforcement
Some of the key organizational principles that are used to help guide the structure of law enforcement
organizations include chain of command, unity of command, span of control, and grouping like
functions (Cordner, 2016). The following is a brief summary of each and their importance.
CHAIN OF COMMAND
Chain of command is simply a prescribed way for every member of a police department to
communicate within the different levels of management (Cordner, 2016). Having a chain of command
that clearly dictates the different levels of authority will ensure the organizations communication and
decisions are efficient (Cordner, 2016). The Chief of Police would be at the top of this chain and then

Advantages Of Statistical Process Control (SPC)
3.1 Statistical Process Control (SPC)
Statistical Process Control is an analytical decision making tools which allow us to see when a process
is working correctly and when it is not. Variation is present in any process, deciding when the
variation is natural and when it needs correction is the key to quality control.
The foundation for Statistical Process Control was laid by Dr. Walter Shewart working in the Bell
Telephone Laboratories in the 1920s conducting research on methods to improve quality and lower
costs. He developed the concept of control with regard to variation, and came up with Statistical
Process Control Charts which provide a simple way to determine if the process is in control or not.
Dr. W. Edwards Deming built upon Shewart s work and took the concepts to Japan following WWII.
There, Japanese industry adopted the concepts whole heartedly. The resulting high quality of Japanese
products is world renowned. Dr. Deming is famous throughout Japan as a God of quality . Today, SPC
is used in manufacturing facilities around the world.

the process, in such case eliminate it.
When the SPC program is performed the process variation will be reduced, the cost of poor quality

tools called the Magnificent Seven can be used. The Magnificent Seven or the Seven Quality Control
(7QC) tools are graphical statistical tools and methods for continuous improvement. A list of the tools

To buttress this, Matthew confirmed that the virgin was found to be with a child through the Holy
Spirit (Matt. 1:18). In fact there are several incidences that took place which cannot make the virgin
birth of Jesus untrue. Isaiah prophesized long time ago about this birth, Joseph planned to secretly end
the relationship with Mary but the Angel spoke to him not to, Herod tried to kill baby Jesus because of
how great He was going to be but he could not, some wise men (shepherds) were told about this child,
Simon was told not to taste death until he sees this child and all this came to pass.
Secondly, the belief and practice of teaching how to speak in tongues and believing it is a requirement
for one to be saved is unbiblical. There is only one way by which people could be saved and that is by
believing in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Paul and Silas were incarcerated, at midnight they sung
melodious hymns and prayed while the prisoners were looking at them. Suddenly there was a strong
earthquake which shook the walls of the prison. Immediately, the doors opened and their chains got
broken. When the jailor saw that the prison doors had opened, he drew his sword to kill himself

Absurdity In The Stranger By Albert Camus
In the book The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the use of absurdity is at a great extent. Throughout the
book, Camus gives plenty of absurd scenarios that are carried out by the characters. This essay will
point out many of the parts from the book which are great examples of this topic. In the beginning of
the book, the main character and narrator, Meursault, is notified that his mother has passed away. She
lived in an old people s home because she was sick and Meursault could not afford to take care of her.
The absurd part about this event, is the fact that Meursault did not even shed a tear at his own mother s
funeral. Another ridiculous part is that he did not even know her age! He was asked by one of the
undertakers, Was she old? And Meursault replied, Fairly, then after stating, because I didn t know the

t want to look at his mother in the casket. Instead, he drank coffee and smoked during the funeral. That
is purely absurd to do at one s own mother s funeral. Another example of absurdity in the book, The
Stranger, would be Meursault s feelings towards his girlfriend, Marie. They have a very intimate
relationship and Marie even tells Meursault that she loves him. However, when Marie asked if he
loved her back, he replied that he did not. As strong and intimate their relationship is, it is almost
absurd for Meursault to say that he doesn t love her. He even fantasizes

mental disability, and allows the person using the toy to not only occupy their time, but also recognize
patterns, shapes, and other things that normal children are taught. Toys are essential to any childhood,
because it allows them t practice real world situations. For example, if a little boy gets a fire station
play set with little Firefighters, Fire trucks and a Fire station, and he is shown how to play with the set,
the boy will recognize that firemen are good, and are supposed to help people. Even though the boy is
playing, and using his own imagination, he now recognizes that fire is bad, and it should be handled
by Firemen. A better example rather would be, if a little girl is given a doll. Because of the treatment

Factors in the Development of Swing
Around the turn of the nineteenth century, new musical forms such as ragtime and jazz saw
development in urbanized areas particularly through the influence of the African American
community. These contemporary genres compelled the evolution of dance toward expression that was
more exuberant with exaggerated body movements (Edmondson). By the 1920s, this led to the
creation of the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, the direct predecessors to Swing. In particular, the
Savoy Ballroom, opened in 1926 in New York, was central to this development because there dancers
soon incorporated tap and jazz steps into their dancing, led by individuals such as Benny Goodman
and Herbert White (Heikkila). The East Coast Swing, often associated with the Jitterbug, Lindy, and
Triple Swing, was a redefinition of the Lindy Hop as the characteristic eight count step was simplified
to a six step swing during the 1940s. Much of the formalization of this dance was performed by the
Arthur Murray dance studios which began to teach Swing, thus introducing an otherwise wild street
dance to the ballroom dance community. Meanwhile, Dean Collins introduced Swing to California
and, though he did not explicitly invent West Coast Swing, was influential in its popularity and
stylistic development through his smooth and anchored style of dancing swing which became
imported into Hollywood s own portrayal of the dance (Powers). Originally named Western Swing,
the name was changed in 1959 to West Coast

Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote s Last Christmas With Sook
A Christmas Memory , an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear
friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930s in a rural southern section of Alabama. Capote recalls
his last Christmas with Sook, who is his sixty something (3) year old cousin who has childlike
tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with
other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind.
However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable
friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with
Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language.
One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make the reader feel
joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware;
we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably this passage is composed by giving the
reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsivity of loud singing. Capote s whimsical
language takes a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23) to illustrate the
feeling of Buddy and Sook s giddiness. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of
dawn splash us like cold water... (36). As a result, his passage allows the reader to feel suddenly
overwhelmed. Capote wants to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the
excitement of not wanting to make waste of any time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel
cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household.
Capote s use of language equally portrays a sense of misery and somberness. For example, during the
whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that
scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. Notably, in the same passage, the relatives say,
shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord! (24). Above all, these three things are of the
utmost importance to Sook. Her religion, her friendship with Buddy, and her mental

The Cure, By Geeta Anand
Some people succeed because they are destined to, but mostly because they are determined to
(unknown). This quote truly represents John and Aileen Crowley, the parents of John, Meagan, and
Patrick in the book The Cure, by Geeta Anand. Having two of their children born with a life
debilitating disease called Pompe disease, was hard to comprehend. Being told that their children have
only months to live due to the fact that there was no medicine on the market to combat the disease,
John decided to quit his marketing executive job to find a cure and make a drug that will save them.
He invested himself and his life s savings in a startup biotechnology company that grew from 27
million dollars to 137.5 million dollars. There were many challenges he faced throughout the entire
story line, yet he continued to persevere which ultimately paid off. One of the biggest hardships he
faced was after the drug was about to get tested. He was told that the drug would only be tried on
babies that were less than six months old and that his two children would not be included in the
clinical trial. To hear that his children were not going to in fact receive the drug after all this time and
effort was crushing, yet he insisted to find a way that they would get it. The scientist concluded that it
would be good research to see if the medicine worked in siblings, and they made an exception to let
these two siblings be included in the study. His hard work and willpower to succeed paid off when the

United Parcel Service
United Parcel Service Executive Summary UPS has announced that after more than 90 years as a
private company, it was planning an initial public offering to become a publicly traded company. In
response to this, we will first analyze UPS¡¦s business strategy and it¡¦s sustainability of its current
performance. Then we will look at key factors to estimate the UPS¡¦s market capitalization value using
FedEx¡¦s multiples as well as ¡§best in breed¡¨ company premiums. From this, we concluded that
UPS¡¦s IPO should create a market capitalization for UPS between $17,520 million and $30,415
million. Evaluation UPS is the largest parcel delivery service in the world. They also help their
customers its customers with supply chain management, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also UPS¡¦s decision to operate their ground and express business as one integrated company sharing
the same trucks and sorting centers gave UPS advantage over FedEx. UPS is likely to sustain the
current performance since ground delivery business, which has been growing at a slower rate than
express business is expected to grow faster mainly due to the expansion of Internet shopping which
would provide a boost for the B2C ground business. FedEx has not fared as well as UPS in financial
performances. FedEx¡¦s total revenue has grown 60% from 1996 to 1999 while their net income has
doubled in the same period. FedEx¡¦s acquisition of RPS will challenge UPS for the ground delivery
business and affect the sustainability of UPS¡¦s advantage in the ground deliver business. FedEx has
been competing well in the higher end, high service segment of the package delivery market.
Although, digitations of documents and emergence of electronic signatures is threatening the express
business which FedEx has the advantage over UPS. Analysis If we use FexEx¡¦s multiples as
benchmarks we get an average UPS market capitalization of $17,520 million. Using FedEx¡¦s trailing
price to earnings ratio, we come up with UPS¡¦s market capitalization of $13,911 million. Using

Susan B Anthony Women s Rights Movement
For decades, the fight for women s rights has been a constant struggle in a male dominated American
society. During the early 1800s, women s traditional roles included providing for the household, such
as educating and raising their children. At this time, women were not given the right to own property
or vote, and they had very minimal economic independence. However, throughout the Gilded Age and
the Progressive Era, a time of business expansion and social reforms, the women s civil rights
movement had escalated due to the actions of many influential figures and reform groups. One of the
most substantial women of the time was Susan B.Anthony, who led the National Woman Suffrage
Association (often abbreviated as NWSA). The equal rights movement ... Show more content on

Despite the social adversities, the law worked in favor of women during multiple important court
cases such as Roe v. Wade, which sought to ensure a woman s right to abortion. However, during the

movement with her STOP ERA campaign. Phyllis Schlafly, a conservative activist, was credited with

The Equal Rights Amendment was proposed by the National Women s Political Party in 1923 and was
intended to ensure equality of men and women and prohibit discrimination. Furthermore, the backlash
against feminism was prevalent through Susan Faludi s book, The Undeclared War Against American
Women, in 1991 that detailed the defeat of the Equal Rights Amendment; the rise of the antiabortion

Simple Epithelial Tissues
Epithelial Tissue:
Epithelial tissues line and cover the organs, capillaries and body cavities within the body. Epithelial
tissues can be broken down into four types: Simple Squamous, Simple Cuboidal, Transitional and
Stratified Squamous. Epithelial tissues are named first by their amount of layers they have, and second
by the cell shape.
Simple Epithelial tissues are composed of only one layer of cells, while stratified tissues are composed
of more than one layer of cells. Squamous tissues are flat as compared to cuboidal or cube shaped
tissues. The final tissue is called columnar, and these cells have a column like shape.

The Notorious Jumping Frog
In the short story titled The Notorious Jumping Frog Of Calaveras County the author, Mark Twain,
conjures a story about Smiley and his frog that can jump on command. In the story, it is in a first
person point of view as a person asked a friend known as Simon Wheeler. A man known as Leonidas
W. Smiley and his pet frog that can jump on command. He is also known as Jim. Jim was a
humongous better.
In fact, As Simon says, Jim would bet on anything. If a dog was fighting, He would bet on it. If a cat
was fighting, He would bet on it. If there was a race, he would bet on it. If two birds were on a fence,
he would bet which one flew off first. If he saw a straddle bug moving, he would bet on it. He would
bet on anything. He would bet on anyone. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Smiley had a mare. The horse was fast, which was odd, because it always had asthma.
He also had a bull pup that he bet on in dogfights. It always went for the legs. The other dog would
attack. The other dog would strike. But the bullpup would stand it s ground.
But probably his most famous was his frog. Upon a slight hit, the frog would jump, and I quote,
Whirling in the air like a doughnut . (P.579) The frog was named Dan l Webster. Another story was
when Jim Smiley put Dan l on the floor and said, Flies, Dan l, flies! (P.579) and Dan l would leap off
the ground and catch a fly on the counter and land right back down.
The most famous story about Smiley and his frog was when Dan l didn t jump. One day, a stranger
came to town. He questioned what was in a box Smiley was carrying. It was the frog, Dan l Webster.
He didn t think the frog was anything special, so Smiley decided to prove the stranger wrong. He went
to the swap and caught another frog then quickly returned to the stranger. They bet $40 dollars and
started the race. The new frog jumped away immediately but Dan l Webster didn t move at all. The
Stranger walked away with the cash. When Smiley investigated Dan l, there was a huge amount of
quail shot. Smiley gave chase after the stranger but he could not find

On the other hand enemies such as the Space Pirates, Kraid, Ridley and the Mother Brain are
programed to perform a small selection of up, down and side to side to movements with the exception
of some basic skills and animations. Kraid for example, is a muscular, slow moving hybrid with
animations that signify a tank. The spinning claws and projectiles are launched from his back and
stomach area which replicate the barrel of a tank. Ridley is a slim and slippery space dragon which has
the ability to fly and to propel a burst of fireballs. In the original Metroid he is capable of dodging
attacks from Samus with the use of flying. In contrast to this, the Mother Brain displays the animation
of a pulsating mechanical brain with an immense amount of flowing energy without the access of
limbs. This indicates that it has imposing authority. To summarises this, many of the characters in
Metroid have the ability to convey an emotion with the use of different animations. The way they are
presented resembles the identity of realistic objects.
In conclusion, the art style of Metroid embodies the futuristic and sci fi theory of outer world life. For

Essay On Factory Farming
Do you know what your meal went through to get to your plate and how it is affecting your day to day
life? Factory farming is an industrial type operation that uses large quantities of animals to provide
food fast and efficiently. Almost all the meats and animal byproducts that we consume, cause harm
and pain to the animals as they go through the cycle of factory farming and it might cause issues
affecting your health. Factory farming is unethical because the practices are uneconomical, unsanitary,
and unnecessary. Factory farming is raising livestock with one intent in mind, which is getting money
fast while spending little. They use shortcuts to make production more efficient, but do so without the
animal s wellbeing in mind. Some people agree with the prospects of factory farming because they
benefit economically. When going to the local grocery store and looking through the meat and egg
departments, the costs are lower due to larger scaled farms lowering the ... Show more content on

bad practices. We can put rubber tip nubs on the chickens beaks so that they won t hurt one another

manure onto the utters. We should pass more laws that will apply to all animals. Everything that was
fed and put into your dinner gets put into you, such as growth hormones, artificial food, and unnatural
products. Therefore, I believe that we should treat the animals we use during factory farming with a
little more respect and not abuse them. In conclusion, factory farming is uneconomical, unsanitary,

Issues and Trends in the Global Value Chain
Global trends are changing on a seemingly daily basis. Global economies are weakening and some
companies are discouraged by the condition of terror threats that are occurring. These threats are
changing the spending behavior of the average customer. Not only is the customer not purchasing
because of the economy, but businesses face the threat of shipments not being secure or not arriving in
a timely manner. To lower cost, and increase benefits, the lean Six Sigma approach will benefit
companies by improving strategies and tactics. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

seven major importing companies. Currently over 7,400 companies in the global supply chain are

manufacturers. CBP s C STAT strategy is based on five goals (Murray, 2011). These goals are ensure
that C TPAT partners improve the security of their supply chains pursuant to C TPAT security criteria,
provide incentives and benefits to include expedited processing of C TPAT shipments to C TPAT
partners, internationalize the core principles of C TPAT through cooperation and coordination with the
international community, support other CBP security and facilitation initiatives, and improve
administration of the C TPAT program. The first goal signifies that profiles and information is secure.
Terror threats against all ports of the globe are at an all time high. The second goal of the Customs

Human Resource Management And How Does It Affect An...
One would ask the question, What is Human Resource Management and how does it affect an
organization? According to Management Study Guide (n.d.), human resource management is the
practice of managing individuals in an organization through an organized and systematic method.
Human resource management affects an organization by executing the procedures and policies and
warranting that the complaints of employees are taken care of. Given the different roles taken on by
the human resource management, it is vital to the attainment of an organization. Today, we will be
looking at three different ways in which human resource management affects an organization. One,
look at how human resource management influence an organizational performance. Next, I will be
sharing information on organizational culture, and then the practices of human resource management
in an organization. First, taking a look at how HRM influences organizational performances.
According to authors Phillips, J and Gully, S., human resource management policies and practices add
value to organization and influences organizational performances by either improving efficiencies or
contributing to revenue growth. This is to say that the effectiveness of human resource management in
an organization has the ability to bring about change, meet the organizations goals, and be able to
expand workers commitment, energy and accomplishments. Another way HRM can influence an
organization is through its talent philosophy.

  • 2. Description Of A Police Officer Introduction I always knew that I wanted to become a police officer, so I decided to interview a Police Captain. I interviewed Police Captain John Carpenter of Riverside Police Department. I found him through Riverside Police Department after looking around at the organizational chart I found online and looking at the titles that were on the chart. The Police Captain is one rank above a Lieutenant, but one below a Deputy Chief. A Police Captain is in charge of a certain precinct, and normally has his/her own division. Captain Carpenter is currently in charge of investigations, such as gangs, narcotics, vice, and intelligence units. The first portion of the paper will discuss qualities and requirements for the position, while the second portion of the paper will go more in depth into the occupation, such as the training required, how candidates are chosen, and salary. Becoming a Police Officer: Qualities and Characteristics Discussing with Captain Carpenter, we talked about the qualities that a police officer would need to have: 1) Hard worker 2) Dedicated 3) Team oriented (Has a partner so they need to work well with others) 4) Physically Fit 5) Good Judgement and problem solving skills 6) Good listener 7) Assertive Experience required: In order to become a police officer, there is no experience required, however to move up to a detective, there is a minimum of 5 10 years working on patrol before you can be part of an investigations unit. • 3. The Contributions Of The Romantic Image Of Charlemagne And... The nation of Andorra credits Charlemagne for gaining their independence in their national anthem El Gran Carlemany. The accredited newspaper, The Economist features a weekly column entitled Charlemagne which focuses on the European Union. For many, the images of Charlemagne and the medieval age take root in the satirical movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail. But, it is dangerous to take sensationalized history as fact. Authors such as Einhard who wrote The Life of Charlemagne, and Notker the Stammerer who wrote The Deeds of Charlemagne are guilty of sensationalizing the life of the Holy Roman Emperor. With their respective versions in mind, it is important to accept the similarities of the romanticized versions as truth, while further investigating the differences in specific details. In order to understand the contributions of authors to the romantic image of Charlemagne and the Medieval Ages as a whole, it is important to first examine the authors, and the advantages they possess.. As discovered in class, Einhard was Charlemagne s friend and personal biographer. This immediately establishes credibility to Einhard because Einhard was physically present at the events of Charlemagne s life. As author and translator David Ganz puts it, His (Einhard s) status gives him a particular authority as the biographer of Charlemagne, (Ganz, 2008, 5). Einhard himself argues for his credibility in the opening paragraphs of his work, saying, I was aware that no one could write ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Manliness In Sports In Not Just A Game By Dave Zirin Manliness in sports have always been present, as Dave Zirin describes, but it is even more present when it comes to pain and recovery. With this combination of sports and manliness, it leads to the militarization of football, and the blind devotion that the sport gives to the military. In one of the segments in the video Not Just a Game, Dave Zirin introduces the concept of the merger of manliness and sports. The central theme of this argument is that in order to be a real man, one would have to sacrifice his body, and be even more vulnerable to injury (Zurin). This is all to serve the ultimate goal, to win the game (Zurin). However, as stated in the film, this leads to the blurring of ethical lines, as athletes start to cheat, like take ... When Tillman was killed overseas in conflict, the Army made sure to cover up the true events of friendly fire with the story that Tillman died under enemy fire while charging up a hill (Zurin). Zurin goes on to describe that, according to this militarization mindset, someone fighting heroically while not challenging orthodoxy is more courageous that someone challenging the motivations and beliefs of a society and of an action ... One interesting fact about the Smokey Mountains is that it is the nation s busiest park, that draws more than nine million visitors a year, twice the number of any other national park. What most of the millions of people that visit usually see is the park from a mountain skimming highway that, on a normal weekend day during the summer, draws over 50,000 people. For anyone wondering, there is plenty of park to be explored. It s not as crowded as it sounds or as crowded as you think it would be. He was my friend subordinate and my guide. He was elder to me so I was like a younger brother for him. I had plenty of ups and downs in my cricket career but he always stood besides me. He used to share everything with him. He never let me quit the game because he knew what the game meant to me, my father and my grandfather. I almost quit the game 5 times in my career for not performing well, but he always said it was just a bad day, bad time and always motivated for good times and by making me remember my good times my good innings. • 7. Comparing The Book Thief And The Boy In Striped Pyjamas How is innocence portrayed and corrupted in The Book Thief and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas? The Book Thief, directed by Brian Percival, and The Boy in Striped Pyjamas, directed by Mark Herman, are both films that share similar themes and are focused on the time of war during Hitler s reign of power. In both films, the idea of innocence is portrayed and corrupted through the friendship of child protagonists, influence of father figures, characterisation of children in war and the narrative perspectives. Symbolism, motifs and themes in these two films are explored to emphasise how innocence is portrayed and corrupted throughout the texts. The innocence of Bruno is portrayed through the stylistic device, dramatic irony, such as Not fair, me stuck by my own and you have all your friends in there. The innocent friendship between the two boys leads them to their deaths in the ending scene, mise en scene comes into place as the scene shows the empty room with only the clothes and boots that were left after the boys and other Jews got gassed. In this scene, there is a form of diegetic music being played and the film finishes with a fading camera shot, that creates a heart breaking tone to the film and the audience is able to feel the loss of innocence after the boys death. With a similar end of war scene in The Book Thief, after the bombings that occurred, Liesel lost the boy she loved which is another way that the idea of innocence has been corrupted. Within this scene the director uses a bird s eye view angle of the death of Rudy and mise en scene is also used in this text, placing Liesel sitting with Rudy in the middle of the ruins of their street, leaving the audience to feel heartbroken just as The Boy in Striped Pyjamas does with the death of both boys. Although, the friendship between child protagonists in The Book Thief, Liesel and Rudy, starts as an innocent friendship and remains that way through most of the film, their friendship is explored through playful love whereas the friendship between Bruno and Shmuel is explored through boundaries ... • 8. Economic Trinity Jesus Christ s death and resurrection play an extremely critical role in the revelation of the Trinity because both of these events reveal the immanent Trinity and the economic Trinity to humanity. Without Jesus death and resurrection, humanity would have absolutely no idea that God is tri personal; instead, they would still only comprehend God as a solitary being. Jesus death and resurrection shatter this notion and replace it with a much more dynamic and fecund understanding of God. In order to understand God s triune nature, it is first important to look at the economic Trinity. In creation, it is possible to come to know that there is a God, and this takes place through nature (i.e. natural theology). This knowledge about God, however, is limited and it does not fully reveal him or his triune identity. The only way that humanity was able to initially comprehend God s true identity is through his actions in history. Through his saving actions in history (i.e. salvation history), God revealed himself gradually to humanity: 1.) to the people of Israel through their history; 2.) in the person of Jesus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The immanent Trinity refers to the inner and eternal triune life of God. The immanent Trinity leads to the revelation of the economic Trinity and vice versa, as Karl Rahner would say. The difference between these two perspectives on the Trinity is in terms of their emphasis on the triune God s divine activity. The economic Trinity emphasizes the Trinity s activity in creation, whereas the immanent Trinity emphasizes the Trinity s internal activity among the three divine persons. Despite the knowledge that we have about the immanent Trinity, the Trinity is still a mystery that becomes more incomprehensible as a person begins to comprehend it (i.e. the principle of analogy: the more we know, the more we realize how much we do not ... • 9. Ecological Theory And Social Work Hospital social work is time limited and the focus could easily be more directed at problems rather than solutions. Patients enter the hospital with a physical problem and desire to leave with answers. In this type of environment the focus can be on the physical ailment rather than additional factors that may be contributing to physical distress. Environmental factors can promote well being or become a barrier to wellness. An ecological perspective provides a lens to view patient systems in a broader context. Ecological perspective is a useful framework in which to view the individual in context with their environment. According to Rogers (2013) ecological theory was originally developed by a psychologist, Urie Bronfenbrenner in 1979 (p. 42). A fundamental tenet of ecological theory is that people are actively involved with their environments and their perceptions of the environment significantly affects their well being (p. 42). Ecological theory describes four levels of the environment that interconnect and impact people. Moving from the most intimate individual system to a broader inclusion you can identify the many systems that play a role in individual s lives and well being. These interactions could be harmonious and create homeostasis or could be disharmonious and cause stress. First, the microsystem level encompasses roles and relationships in a person s immediate environment (Rogers, 2013, p. 43). For example, Maria s relationships and home living situation ... An obvious example of this is how Napoleon uses Squealer as a propaganda speaker. Napoleon uses Squealer special skill of talking to animals and getting them to his side. Orwell also uses the example of Snowball. Snowball was a spy for Jones Napoleon said. When we see him we just kill him (Orwell 65). The animals at first don t believe it like Boxer by saying that the animals gave him the Animal Hero First Class. He however didn t prophesied that napoleon would take over control and kill many animals in the farm. • 11. The Real Life Example Of Shared Knowledge And Personal... How do you gain shared knowledge? Let us take a cake for example; the cake is made up of many different ingredients. A recipe may be said to be knowledge because it tells you how to make the cake step by step. Looking at this shared knowledge shapes your personal knowledge and next time you might not need the recipe because the recipe would be part of your own personal knowledge. If shared knowledge is knowledge that has been received from people or sources around you then personal knowledge is knowledge that is gained directly through firsthand experience or observation . Shared knowledge usually shapes personal knowledge. Even when an inexperienced cook has a recipe, they might still not be able to make a good cake. Looking at this example we can see that the shared knowledge being the recipe can shape the personal knowledge of both the cooks and because the experienced cook has more personal knowledge, he is able to come up with a better cake than the inexperienced cook. The concern with the current slow growth of the Fed Funds Rate is that there is a similar pattern as there was prior to the decline in 2008, where inflation tanked and the Fed Funds Rate, which was high at 4.24% was not enough to halt the inflation drop. The similar pattern in inflation and the Fed Funds Rate can be seen in the two graphs below. If the Federal Open Market Committee does not increase the rate of the growing Fed Funds Rate within the next few quarters the likeliness of another recession increases. Although it would not be as extensively damaging as the recession in 2008, a recession would be nonetheless detrimental to the economy, as we would be set back in all the economical progress that has been made in the past 10 years, as shown in the graphs above. Currently, the Federal Reserve has set the rate to rest at a target range of 1 to 1 1/4 percent. The Federal Open Market Committee acknowledged in their November meeting that inflation has more headway to make until it is at the two percent mark they have set as a long term target. This situation contains both positive and negative elements. • 14. A Major Threat Of An Economy Comes From Climate Change A major threat in an economy comes from climate change. Excessive rain or warmer than expected winters, increase the risk for a lot of companies, mainly in the solar and energy sector, and ultimately affects their revenues. As the wind and solar industry continues to grow, investors are injecting more capital in order to organize this industry by way of decreasing the risks inherent to it. Accordingly, and as more money is invested in these markets, more investors and stakeholders are looking for better risk management techniques that could protect their assets and ensure a steady flow in revenue. Derivatives are financial instruments used to transfer the risk associated with the variation in the underlying asset to a third party inclined at accepting that risk, but in exchange for a premium ; thus, the payoff from derivatives depends on the value of this underlying asset. Consequently, the protection or insurance paid from a certain derivative depends on the level of an index, as opposed to traditional insurance that depends on real losses. A unique type of derivatives is Weather Derivatives that identify their payouts based on certain weather conditions that unfavorably affect the revenues of a business. Advantages Of Statistical Process Control (SPC) 3.1 Statistical Process Control (SPC) Statistical Process Control is an analytical decision making tools which allow us to see when a process is working correctly and when it is not. Variation is present in any process, deciding when the variation is natural and when it needs correction is the key to quality control. The foundation for Statistical Process Control was laid by Dr. Walter Shewart working in the Bell Telephone Laboratories in the 1920s conducting research on methods to improve quality and lower costs. He developed the concept of control with regard to variation, and came up with Statistical Process Control Charts which provide a simple way to determine if the process is in control or not. Dr. W. Edwards Deming built upon Shewart s work and took the concepts to Japan following WWII. There, Japanese industry adopted the concepts whole heartedly. The resulting high quality of Japanese products is world renowned. Dr. Deming is famous throughout Japan as a God of quality . There is only one way by which people could be saved and that is by believing in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. • 20. Absurdity In The Stranger By Albert Camus In the book The Stranger, by Albert Camus, the use of absurdity is at a great extent. Throughout the book, Camus gives plenty of absurd scenarios that are carried out by the characters. This essay will point out many of the parts from the book which are great examples of this topic. In the beginning of the book, the main character and narrator, Meursault, is notified that his mother has passed away. She lived in an old people s home because she was sick and Meursault could not afford to take care of her. The absurd part about this event, is the fact that Meursault did not even shed a tear at his own mother s funeral. Another ridiculous part is that he did not even know her age! He was asked by one of the undertakers, Was she old? And Meursault replied, Fairly, then after stating, because I didn t know the exact number, (p.16). It is completely absurd to not know your own mother s age. Meursault also didn t want to look at his mother in the casket. Instead, he drank coffee and smoked during the funeral. That is purely absurd to do at one s own mother s funeral. Another example of absurdity in the book, The Stranger, would be Meursault s feelings towards his girlfriend, Marie. They have a very intimate relationship and Marie even tells Meursault that she loves him. However, when Marie asked if he loved her back, he replied that he did not. As strong and intimate their relationship is, it is almost absurd for Meursault to say that he doesn t love her. He even fantasizes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Factors in the Development of Swing Around the turn of the nineteenth century, new musical forms such as ragtime and jazz saw development in urbanized areas particularly through the influence of the African American community. These contemporary genres compelled the evolution of dance toward expression that was more exuberant with exaggerated body movements (Edmondson). By the 1920s, this led to the creation of the Charleston and the Lindy Hop, the direct predecessors to Swing. In particular, the Savoy Ballroom, opened in 1926 in New York, was central to this development because there dancers soon incorporated tap and jazz steps into their dancing, led by individuals such as Benny Goodman and Herbert White (Heikkila). The East Coast Swing, often associated with the Jitterbug, Lindy, and Triple Swing, was a redefinition of the Lindy Hop as the characteristic eight count step was simplified to a six step swing during the 1940s. Much of the formalization of this dance was performed by the Arthur Murray dance studios which began to teach Swing, thus introducing an otherwise wild street dance to the ballroom dance community. Meanwhile, Dean Collins introduced Swing to California and, though he did not explicitly invent West Coast Swing, was influential in its popularity and stylistic development through his smooth and anchored style of dancing swing which became imported into Hollywood s own portrayal of the dance (Powers). Originally named Western Swing, the name was changed in 1959 to West Coast ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 23. Literary Analysis Of Truman Capote s Last Christmas With Sook A Christmas Memory , an eloquently written account of Truman Capote s last Christmas with his dear friend, Sook. The story is set during the 1930s in a rural southern section of Alabama. Capote recalls his last Christmas with Sook, who is his sixty something (3) year old cousin who has childlike tendencies. Sook refers to Capote as Buddy throughout the story. Buddy and Sook share a home with other relatives, who throughout the story, berate them with harsh words and are overall unkind. However, the relatives unknowingly strengthen their bond and aid in forging an unbreakable friendship between the two. Capote manages to pen a captivating memoir of his last Christmas with Sook using an engaging writing style with an enthralling use of vivid language. One of the ways Capote captivates his readers is by using vivid language to make the reader feel joyful, giddy and excited. My dancing shadow rollicks on the walls; our voices rock the chinaware; we giggle: as if unseen hands were tickling us (23). Notably this passage is composed by giving the reader a sense of silliness as we imagine the auditory impulsivity of loud singing. Capote s whimsical language takes a step further with his use of ...unseen hands were tickling us (23) to illustrate the feeling of Buddy and Sook s giddiness. Another way he uses imagery is with, ...the beginnings of dawn splash us like cold water... (36). As a result, his passage allows the reader to feel suddenly overwhelmed. Capote wants to grasp the urgency of waking up Christmas morning and capture the excitement of not wanting to make waste of any time. Capote uses vivid language to make us feel cheerful; likewise, he also uses it to make us feel the heaviness of heartache within the household. Capote s use of language equally portrays a sense of misery and somberness. For example, during the whiskey scene, the relatives in the household erupt into the room with, eyes that scold, tongues that scald (24). The verbiage used is sharp and graphic. Notably, in the same passage, the relatives say, shame! scandal! humiliation! kneel, pray, beg the Lord! (24). Above all, these three things are of the utmost importance to Sook. Her religion, her friendship with Buddy, and her mental ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He invested himself and his life s savings in a startup biotechnology company that grew from 27 million dollars to 137.5 million dollars. There were many challenges he faced throughout the entire story line, yet he continued to persevere which ultimately paid off. One of the biggest hardships he faced was after the drug was about to get tested. He was told that the drug would only be tried on babies that were less than six months old and that his two children would not be included in the clinical trial. To hear that his children were not going to in fact receive the drug after all this time and effort was crushing, yet he insisted to find a way that they would get it.
