Reviews of the Television Version of the Sound of Music Essay
First things first the television show Sound Of Music that was broadcasted in December 5th
2013 and was broadcasted on national televison channel called NBC the producers name was Craig
Zadan and Neil Meron , the special had a cool cast such as a Carrie Underwood who stared in this
show as Maria von Trapp. It was performed and televised live all over the country from a film
studio in Bethpage , New York. The history of the show was very interesting so far and how they
had famous actors such as Carrie Underwood , although there was criticism directly to Carrie
Underwood who was casting in the show as Maria , many said that Carrie did not have much
experience to play such a big role as Maria. It was said before that critics described... Show more

Woah thats a lot of von Trapps you might say well there is a lot of them. Not just that but also
there is credits to be credited including Rob Ashford and Beth Mccarthy Miller as directors. So
many cast members you also might say , but on September 16 , 2013 , NBC revealed the full cast
of the special. Want to know a little bit more about the history well in The Sound Of MusicLive
was broadcasted live from a stage in Bethpage , New York in about a budget of 9 million dollars
which was not much you may think but one of the producers named Zadan considered it to be
one of the profoundly complicated , amazing experiences we ve ever had Zadan said. If you
didnt know before The Sound Of Music Live was aired as part of a push by NBC to air more
live entertainment specials. As it was said before that the Sound Of Music was broadcasted
among programs such as Sunday Night football , the show got in those rankings of views which
is incredible ; the sound of music was watched by 18.62 million viewers and had a 4.6 rating in
the 18 49 demographic it was one of the most viewed shows that was programmed at night.
Another topic that would be interesting to discuss would be on the sponsorships that The Sound
Of Music recieved by big companies that are seen in every corner and city. This sponsorship must
of helped a lot because this company is well known. The place that helped a lot

Interview With Soft Skills
If asked in an interview what soft skills you possess, most people would say the obvious ones
such as friendliness, hardworking, punctual, team player, etc. but in today s business world you
will have to be much more convincing than that. Most of us would tell a potential employer
those skills that we believe the employer would want us to possess. It is not that easy anymore as
employers are looking for more. Soft skills are increasingly sought out by employers in addition
to standard qualifications. Soft skills are behavioral competencies. Also known as interpersonal
skills or people skills (Pazhani Priya, 2012). Many times an employer will start your interview
without you knowing it. They will watch your interaction with people and your overall demeanor.
For women going after a leadershipor managerial position, soft skills such as strength,
independence, fearlessness, and intelligence are sought after as these are characteristics of
successful leaders (Plietz, 2012).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every healthcare leader must possess these skills to achieve lasting change (Verdon, 2015). If
your intention is to make a difference in healthcare and you feel you already have the soft skills
discussed, then you should continue to refine them as well as work on other skills needed to be
successful in your career. There will always be soft skills to learn or sharpen no matter what
career you choose. To truly know ourselves, we must become aware of our blind spots, those
situations we don t handle as well as we should for optimal business performance (Wheeler,

Islamic Teachings And Principles Of Isis
Humom Asamarai

Inevitable Blowback Many claim that ISIS has been created as a result of Islamic teachings and
principles. This is false. Islam has existed for over 1,400 years. If the above claim had an ounce
of truth to it, ISIS would have emerged long ago. Constant instability in the Middle East and the
struggle for political power in the region are some, but not all of the reasons for ISIS existence.
State sponsored Islamophobia and fear mongering of Muslims in America are largely
contributing causes to the creation of barbaric groups such as ISIS. As a result of the tragic
events that took place on 9/11, Islamophobia was born. It has been over a decade and
Islamophobia is not only still existent, but it s unfortunately growing in the heart of the average
American more and more each day. For this we can thank our lovely media. Muslims are being
targeted at every corner. In this country, you are taught by society to fear Islam. You are led to think
that it is a violent cult that preaches hate and teaches violence. The sad part is, whether Islam does
any of this is still a question that is being debated. Only just recently, CNN attacked Reza Aslan
during a live interview for not condemning the religion of Islam and its teachings. When he replied
and defended Islam with supporting facts, they attacked him for being hostile. In this country, you
are taught that Muslims hate your great American freedom, even though Muslim and American

Society s Change in O Connor s A Good Man is Hard to Find
In her short story A Good Man is Hard to Find Flannery O Connor seems to portray a feeling that
society as she saw it was drastically changing for the worse. O Connor obvious displeasure with
society at the time the story was written is most likely her religious and conservative upbringing in
the old south. O Connor shows her point of view through an old woman named the grandmother.
She uses the grandmother to depict Evidence of society s demise is woven into the story, and
presented through an interesting generational gap between the old and the new (the grandmother
and her family). O Connor use of irony throughout the story is a clear representation of the way in

Irony in this story is a key to upcoming events that take place. The symbols of irony in this story
all represent death in some way or another. The graveyard in the middle of a field, which had six
graves and it, was a family graveyard. The Grandmother remembering the old plantation house
with the six columns right after they passed through Tombsboro. The tower in which the family
stopped to eat (Red Sammy s) looked like a tomb. The car in which The Misfit drove looked lock
a black hearse. The grave that The Misfit dug with the tip of his shoe while talking with the
grandmother symbolizes the grave in which she is about to be put in. Finally the ditch in which the
car runs into represents a grave because they cannot get out and will stay there in that hole in the
ground.
Throughout the story we see the events unfold and learn a lot about each character. The
grandmother is a self serving, manipulative, and righteous old woman that represents the old way
of life. The grandchildren represent the new way in which the grandmother does not approve. The
Misfit represents the evil in the world and how it affects both the old way as well as the new.
Flannery O Connor was deeply concerned with the values an the direction of the youth of her time.

Skill Acquisition Analysis
Introduction
The purpose of this presentation is to evaluate my current level of skill acquisition on my serve.
( Skill acquisition definition ) My serves weaknesses are my legs; knee bend, and jumping up
and into the ball. There is also a problem with my follow through I walk over the baseline and
would not be ready for my opponents return. My serve s skill acquisition is nearing the
autonomous stage. The autonomous stage, is characterised by performances that are automatic and
occur without thinking. (Amezdroz, 2010) because my legs need to do more work which will then
change other stages of my serve. I am comparing Roger Federer s serve because he s 2nd on the

By including drills to the practice, I can practice the bomb, kicker, slider and body serves by
placing markers in the service box for each separate serve. After serving for 30 minutes I can do
some smashes for a while. After a big serve, sometimes the opponent pops the ball in the air
giving him time for his next shot but the server may come to net for a smash. A smash is usually
hit, with extreme power leaving the returning player no chance to remain in the point.
(Optimum Tennis, 2015) Therefore having a smash at the ready to finish a point is very
valuable for a player. Practicing well is very important to an athlete so by continuously serving I
can make minor adjustments to my serve if it goes out or feels wrong. By setting up targets;
markers or cones. This allows me to improve accuracy and thought processing during a game. I
personally prefer to visualise and then attempt the task. Strength conditioning is important; going
to the gym can help with, ball control can be improved, and, who is able to hit the ball harder.
(Optimum Tennis, 2015) Doing weights for my legs, to improve the power in my quads and calf

The Original Tonka Truck Manufacturer
Remember when most boys you knew played with some shape or form of the Tonka Truck. I am
talking about the original Tonka Truck Manufacturer. With the end of WWII and the beginning of
Christmas 1962 the business of converting or supporting the war effort to something more peace
time related was underway. New companies were popping up across the country and three
visionary, entrepreneurs seized on an opportunity and Mound Metalcraft Incorporated was formed
on September 18, 1946 by Lynn Baker, Alvin Tesch and Avery Crounse. The new company
purchased a three story school building built in 1908 near beautiful Lake Minnetonka in Mound,
Minnesota. The business model for their new company was to manufacture closet accessories like
tie racks and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If Tonka wanted to compete with the likes of Buddy L, Marx, Nylint, Structo, Wyandotte and
others, they had to diversify their model offering. To that end, Dump trucks, Wreckers, Semis, and
Box Vans all made their initial appearance prior to 1955. By mid 1955, Mound Metalcraft moved
into a new manufacturing facility that handled their ever increasing product line and an insatiable
appetite by consumers for Tonka trucks. Fast forward #100 Steam Shovel to 1982. (This is a brief
history) (http://www.neatoldtoys.com/history.htm)
A major blow to Tonka s Minnesota workforce, was that steel truck manufacturing began to move
from Minnesota to El Paso, Texas in 1982 with the transfer of equipment and production
completed in 1983. Then in 1991, Tonka Toys was purchased by Hasbro Incorporated, the second
largest toy company in the U.S.A. In 1998, and still under the Hasbro brand, the steel truck
manufacturing was completely moved out of the United States to mainland China. Therefore in
today s global manufacturing markets, Made in the U.S.A. takes a backseat if it affects the
bottom line. Forward to May 10, 2014, and the Tonka brand is still part of the Hasbro family and
is still manufactured in China. The once mighty Tonka brand has been diluted with small plastic
trucks. The original factory in Mound, Minnesota looks much the same as it did when it closed in
1982 accept it is home to multiple tenants. The factory in El Paso includes administrative offices,

Summary Of Knocking On Heaven s Door

autobiography and a biography about how a broken medical system affected her own family.
When her father suffered a stroke, her mother was thrown into full time caregiving because he
could no longer care for himself properly. Putting him in a nursing home for more advanced care
was not an option to this couple. During this time, a pacemaker was surgically implanted into her
father s chest for a non fatal arrhythmia. This procedure was continuously on Katy s mind daily,
while she was thinking that the pacemaker was never a good idea to begin with. When several

Emergent literacy represents a shift in thinking about young children s reading. It stresses the
relationship between the preschool and beginning reading phases, among concerns and issues of
early childhood educators and those of reading teachers, and between the home and school
environment (Teale, 1995). Marie Clay (1977) first used the term emergent literacy. In the mid
1980s emergent literacy theory gained importance as a way to explain the beginning of children s
reading skills. Emergent literacy replaced the term reading readiness through the 1980s 1990s.
Emergent literacy is based upon the notion that children learn literacy skills through print. Teale
and Sulzby (1991) proposed that emergent literacy be recognized as a new model for
conceptualizing young children s written language development. Teale and Sulzby defined emergent
literacy as the reading and writing concepts, behaviors, and dispositions that precede and develop
into conventional literacy (Teale, 1995, p.107).
By the mid 1980s emergent reading/literacy became accepted among researchers, early educators,
and reading teachers. Emergent literacy appeared as an ERIC descriptor and was recognized as a
justifiable area of work in the conventions of the National Association for the Education of the
Young Children, the National Reading Conference, the International Reading

Sex Crimes And The Law Essay
The topic that we talked about in the class, Sex Crimes and the Law that really interested me
was the topic of rape. After having the guest speaker that was a Temple student really bothered
me and I thought about it for days. For starters, I think it is absolutely scary that she was rapped
on Temple University s campus, to be exact in Peabody hall and absolutely nothing was done to
help her. This is bothering me the most because I am a Temple student, this happened in her own
room, no one helped her, and her rapist is still out there. I feel horrible that no one even tried to
help and most people even made it seem like it was her fault by saying things such as you know
you wanted it . No one wants to be rapped and the victim should never be to blame. This poor girl
tried to kill herself multiple times. I believe that no one should go through this trauma alone or
even go through it at all. Since our guest speaker, I have gone on a binge of watching Law Order:
SVU and even through about becoming a special victim unit detective for my career. Another
reason that the topic of rapped bothered me was because just recently one of my friends came
out and said that she was raped by her boyfriend. No one even knew this happened until she
made it public on Facebook. For the longest time she was drawn back and really did not hang out
with the group and now I know why. The guest speaker really helped me to understand, just to be
there for her. When she wants to talk she will and not

An Age Of Doubt By James Joyce
Frequently referred to as an age of doubt, the Modernist period of literature was characterized by
authors who sought to challenge the notion of a literary text containing a single truth or meaning.
Modernist writers went against societal and cultural customs by questioning literature and focusing
on the individual experience of a text. As a result, much of modern literature destabilizes meaning
through the use of ambiguityand suspense. Accordingly, ambiguity plays a central role in James
Joyces short story, Eveline. Throughout the story, nineteen year old Eveline contemplates leaving
her home in Dublin to pursue a happier life with a sailor named Frank. At home, she leads a
dismal life with her violent father, and therefore the prospect of life with Frank in Buenos Ayres
presents itself as an enticing escape. However, Eveline finds herself trapped between familiarity
and freedom, between what she could do and what she wants to do. While numerous critics have
attempted to uncover whether Eveline favours her staying or leaving, the story remains ambiguous
with its two mutually exclusive meanings (Luft 48). In Joyce s Eveline, ambiguity obscures the
answer the reader seeks and reveals that Eveline cannot make a choice because her situation is
inescapable putting the reader in a position of hermeneutic conflict, analogous to Eveline s
irresolvable inner conflict (Luft 50).
Throughout Eveline, the ambiguity surrounding Frank s character is a major source of

Bathsheba Everdene as an Effective Feminist Essay
Bathsheba Everdene as an Effective Feminist
Far From The Madding Crowd was set in the 1840s, at a time when women had very few rights.
The Married Women s Property Act was not brought in until the 1870s, which meant that all women
s earnings went to their husbands, and if they owned any property before marriage it would legally
be transferred to her husband upon matrimony. Divorce laws heavily favoured men and a divorced
wife could expect to lose any property she had brought into the marriage. When the act was

No no I cannot. Don t press me any more don t. I don t love you so twould be ridiculous! P 36
This quote shows her sense of being in control of her own destiny. She does not want to be owned
by a man.
The reader is intentionally given the clear impression that Bathsheba is a feminist at the point
that she takes over the farm from her uncle. In the 1840 s this was unheard of. One of the only
reasons why Bathsheba would have got the farm from her uncle after his death was because she
had no brothers. There were no men left in her family so it had to go to her. Bathsheba proves that
she is worthy of the farm because she manages to live as the mistress successfully. Gabriel found
out about Bathsheba being the mistress of the farm when he overheard a conversation between two
workers.
On hearing these and other similar remarks a wild thought flashed into Gabriel s mind that they
might be speaking of Bathsheba… and the women alluded to seemed to be the mistress of
some estate. P 47

Tacitus Intentions In Agricola

father in law and giving testimony to the past and present, (assertion) his purpose is actually to push
future generations away from past societal errors, (warranting element) and this is important for
readers to uncover.
Con Evidence: Tacitusclearly defined his intentions within Agricola, to honor his father in law,
and to write about the past and present. In the preface of his writing he states ... a record of our
former servitude and a testimony to our present blessings. For the time being, this book, intended to

He expresses his book s purpose clearly, and portrays his book as a way to honor not just his
father in law Agricola, but the past and present also. He wishes to bring attention to the greatness
of Agricola, and the progress of Roman society in terms of freedom. The preface alone, proves
the purpose behind Tacitus s book, as he gives tribute to Agricola and Rome. Assertion Evidence:
Tacitus s book, Agricola, was written with the intention of leading the future generations away
from the faults of the past. In the preface of his book, Tacitus writes, We should have lost our
memories as well as our voices, were it as easy to forget as to be silent. (2) Tacitus writes of
forgetting the past, and in turn furthering society from the wrongdoings of the previous generations.
Assertion Explanation: Despite his written intentions, Tacitus s purpose in writing Agricola, is
clearly that he wished to inspire further generations and guide them away from past collective
flaws. The preface alone communicates the idea of moving on from the past generations, and
growing from the mistakes that took place. By writing of the trials and errors which once occurred,
Tacitus is hoping to inspire the succeeding generations to strive for better

The Clarinet Essay
The clarinet s versatility makes it an ideal instrument for several genres of music. The most popular
genres use the clarinet because of its flexibility, virtuosity and ability to play in the extremes of the
instrument s range. It is a core member of the orchestra and blends well with woodwind, brass and
string instruments.
Jazz
Clarinets appear regularly in jazz ensembles. The laid back nature of the instrument allows the
clarinet to play with ease and nuance. These characteristics make it suitable for playing extended
solos and complex passages as the jazz ensemble works through modulations resulting in key
changes.
A famous type of jazz music, called Dixieland jazz, features the clarinet prominently. Dixieland jazz

Popular
Popular music uses the clarinet for background music and solos. The Beatles used the clarinet
extensively in songs. Two famous examples include When I m Sixty Four and Here Comes the

Another famous group by the name of Muse wrote a song for bass clarinet solo titled I belong to

Illegal Killing and Trafficking of Black Bears Essay
Illegal Killing and Trafficking of Black Bears
The illegal killing and trafficking of animal parts has long been a global concern. With trading at
an estimated 6 billion dollars annually, poaching has become the world s second most profitable
crime activity behind illegal drug trade. In its prevalence, poaching has driven many species to the
point of extinction.
Animals around the world are killed each day for their body parts. In Africa, elephant tusks are a
valuable source of ivory used in jewelry. Moreover, the horns of rhinoceros could command up to
$5,000 in the black market. The mothers of newborn mountain gorillas are often killed so that their
young ones could be shipped to foreign countries for research or display. ... Show more content on

A known compound found in bile, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), has been used in western
medicine to treat liver disorders. A gall can command up to $10,000 in east Asia. Its price is about
20 times the street price of cocaine per ounce. Globally, the market in bear parts is estimated at $2
billion.
For obvious reasons, bears have become increasingly rare. Five of the eight bear species in the
world are endangered. In Korea, where they were ounce abundant, black bears are virtually extinct
now with a population between 20 to 300. The population of bears in Russia is dwindling rapidly
as a result of gall trafficking by the Russian Mafia. Bear populations have decreased to the point
that China is now using bear farms to obtain gall. Bears are kept cruelly in small cages that are
often fitted to their body so that they cannot move. A steel catheter surgically implanted to their
gall bladder removes bile from their bodies daily. However, instead of saving bears as claimed, bear
farms have only instigated poaching by increasing demands for gall.
As bear populations decreased in Asia, more traffickers turned to North America where there are a
considerable number of bears. Although poaching also occurs in the United States, the problem
appears to be worse in Canada. This may be attributed to less

The Impact Of Wearing Formal Clothing On Cognitive Processing
Article Analysis Assignment In their study, the authors endeavored to examine the impact of
wearing formal clothing on cognitive processing. The authors want to explore a difference, if any,
between the abstract thought processes of a participant wearing formal clothes. As for their
hypothesis, they suspect that wearing formal clothing induces more abstract cognitive processing.
(Slepian 1) According to the article, events that are psychologically distant are conceived of
relatively abstractly, while events that are psychologically near are conceived of relatively
concretely. In layman s terms, the authors are suggesting that increases of social comfort
encourages concrete thinking while less social comfort encourages abstract thinking. Therefore,
because formal clothing creates social distance, the authors, in their respective opinion, have good
reason to suppose that the bearing of formal clothing will increase abstract thinking. The
researchers conducted five different studies, all of which used undergraduates as participants of the
study. For the first study, the participants were sixty undergraduates and 78% were female. In the
study, researchers studied the relationship between clothing and abstract processing, while
accounting for the covariant, socioeconomic status. Participants were asked to rate the formality of
their currently worn clothing in relation to their peers on a scale from 50 to +50. In addition, they
were given a behavioral identification form in

Analysis Of Interview With The Vampire And Bram Stokers...
Penetration in some form is usually present in sexual activity and penetration is an overall theme
throughout both films. The penetration that takes place in Interview With The Vampire and Bram
Stokers Dracula does not take place from sex, instead, penetration comes from fangs, and yet the
tone is extremely sexual in nature. The scene in Interview With The Vampire
where Le Stat brings
two women back to their home is a great example. In the scene, Le Stat bites one woman on the
breast and she squeals and moans in ecstasy. Her heavy breathing and sexual moaning make the
scene quite erotic. And when he sinks his teeth in deeper her eyes roll back in her head in passion.
It isn t until she notices blood that she becomes afraid.

In Bram Stokers, Dracula the scene where the character Lucy in lured outside is riddled with
sexual energy. Lucy is the quintessential archetype who is often portrayed in vampire films,
young, pale and with her breasts almost always spilling from her dress. In this scene, the night is
stormy, dark and dreadful. And Dracula in the form of a wolf lures Lucy outside, she seems to
be in a trance, she can t control her urges and finds her way to the courtyard. Here she is ravaged
by this monster, the abject beast penetrates Lucy with his fangs as she moans and exposes herself.
In all regards, this scene should be terrifying but is filled with the suggestion of sex.
Lucy is symbolic of how women who were unclean were viewed during the Victorian era. Lucy
was portrayed as evil and was easily manipulated. She was nothing like Mina s character who was
portrayed as the perfect Victorian woman, loyal and intelligent. But Lucy can be more carefully
examined too, she transforms in the movie from a naГЇve unmarried 19 year old girl into a
powerful sexual being. Lucie s behavior was once seen as evil during Victorian times, so it seems
natural that she was the one murdered in the film and not Mina. But in the end, it is Mina they
should have feared, her intelligence surpassed their evil.
Folklore vampires often convey important social messages in that their undead condition is
regarded as a penalty for mental, physical, or behavioral

Book Report on Apology Essay
Book Report on Apology
In the Apology , Socrates tackles his accusers against certain accusations made against him in the
Court of Law of Athens, Greece. The nature of the accusation that has caused him to stand trial is
such that Socrates is an evil doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under the earth
and in heaven, and he makes the worse appear the better cause; and he teaches the aforesaid
doctrines to others (Plato. The Republic and other plays. pg 449. Doubleday publishing; New York
1989). Socrates begins with first identifying the type of accusers he has, which consist of those who
are in direct contention with him, the primary accusers, since they are the ones who contrived the

pg 454). He then explains that if he was corrupting others, he too would have been corrupted
long ago and there would be no good left. Also he rebuttals the charge of not believing in Gods
while believing in higher divinities. The charge, he shows how ludicrous was indeed in nature
since how can anyone believe in flute playing and not the flute player (Plato, pg 457). How can
one believe in spiritual and divine agencies, and not in spirits or demigods? But ultimately
Socrates defense is his self lessness. He attributes his deeds to his duty towards God. He makes it
clear that the obligation to truth is far more closer to God than any other social one that is
marked by malice. His poverty, his unchanging and impartial ways that he followed all his life to
search for the truth and when having found it, give it to others without taking into consideration
what the government in power would say or do about it in itself is an evidence and a virtue that
rises above all others to prove him innocent. His defense is simple and artless because it is the
truth, within which some more properties emerge. One of these can be identified as the simplicity
of truth and the other is its universality. Truly, although several impugn Socrates of wrong doing
and misguiding the youth, he was not the first or the last one tried on such a charge. This points to
the nature of truth to be unchanging. Despite all the advances a society may claim to having

Honey Face Mask Research Paper
Making a Honey Face Mask at Home Honey is made from flower nectar by bees and the liquid
contains fructose, glucose, and monosaccarides. People use it as a food sweetening alternative to

Moisture is important for all types of skin, but people suffering from acne should not use lotions
and creams that clog pores. A face mask that moisturizes and fights acne is the perfect solution. It
is made from one teaspoon each of plain yogurt and warmed honey. Mix the ingredients, apply the
mask to the face, leave on for between ten and 20 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat the

Due to its low cost, it is very easy to integrate into other technologies like cell phone.
The system is updated regularly by the US government and hence is very advance.
This is the best navigating system in water as in larger water bodies we are often misled due to
lack of proper directions.
Disadvantages of GPS:
Sometimes the GPS may fail due to certain reasons and in that case you need to carry a backup
map and directions.
If you are using GPS on a battery operated device, there may be a battery failure and you may need
a external power supply which is not always possible.
Sometimes the GPS signals are not accurate due to some obstacles to the signals such as buildings,
trees and sometimes by extreme atmospheric conditions such as geomagnetic storms.

In 1912 when the buck law went into effect it was set to increase the number of deer as well as
limit the abundance of deer to prey on other organisms. This was not as simple as thought, many
were illegally killed leaving many newborns to starve during the winter. (Brown, 1956). Hunting
soon began to be open during certain date ranges during the season to allow more regulation on
hunting of the White tailed deer. (Brown, 1956). These deer prefer matured forests with practically
no undergrowth (Brown, 1956) which brings them to the same place, around Alfred, New York.
Although it may seem that there are more deer, the regulations help, but the deer don t reproduce
as many, squirrels reproduce 2 4 per litter twice a year (Frankis).
Wildlife, for the most part, is out on its own having to rummage and scour the woodlands or their
habitats for food. While looking for food it can be dangerous, poisoning of wildlife occurs all the
time. It has been found that Anticoagulant Rodenticides are commonly used in New York and this
cause many mammals to be poisoned. Of all the animals that are poisoned, the White Tailed Deer
and the Grey Squirrel are the most common. Through the use of brodifacoum in pesticides, this
appears to limit the amount of squirrels and deer in surrounding areas where most pesticides
containing brodifacoum are used. (Ward,

The Value Of Loyalty In The Odyssey By Homer
Loyalty is one of the important factors that influences people because loyalty provides stability
for any long lasting relationship. In The Odyssey, an epic poem by Homer, Penelope shows us the
value of loyalty because she is hopeful that her husband will come back, and she does not want to
marry anyone who is not him. Penelopeis a good example of loyalty in The Odysseybecause she

and they would do anything to get to marry her. Since she was a queen, Penelope would have

avoid choosing a suitor to marry she said that she would chose a husband as soon as she finished

Essay about The Inadequacy of Paley s Argument from Design
The Inadequacy of the Argument from Design
William Paley s teleological argument (also known as the argument from design) is an attempt to
prove the existence of god. This argument succeeds in proving that while existence was created by
an aggregation of forces, to define these forces, as a conscious, rational, and ultimately godlike is
dubious. Although the conclusions are valid, the argument makes several logical errors. The
teleological argument relies on inductive reasoning, rendering the argument itself valid, but
unsound. The argument fails to apply its own line of reasoning to itself, resulting in infinite
regression. Beyond the scope of its logical flaws, the arguments content lacks accurate comparisons.
The argument hinges on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although this type of argument is practical at predicting patterns of re occurring events, they are
never legitimately sound. Consider the sunrise. It has risen every day for thousands of years on
end. Therefore, it will rise tomorrow. Despite the odds of this happening being very high, there is
not a one hundred percent chance that it will. Furthermore, consider the existence of the universe
itself. Although the odds of life being created by a random amalgamation of forces are very low,
the correct combination for life to exist only has to occur once. From that point forward, evolution
and a reaction to external stimuli allows life to change naturally.
The argument also indulges in an infinite regression. It assumes that a transcendent god created
the entire universe. However, it fails to account for what created the god. As stated in the lecture
slides, a committee of lesser beings may have created the god, but that begs the question about
who created the committee. One could object to this idea and believe that god has always existed,
transcending time and reality itself. Once again, however, this logic is just as applicable to the
universe. The universe is as capable of existing forever as a god is.
William Paley further begs the question in stating that because of perceived complexities in an
entity, it must have been designed. This perceived relation between complexity and design is an

Arab And Norman Dominations
When talking about the historical periods of Sicily, especially the period of Arab and Norman

usually tied together and represented as one unique period, the Arab Norman. When the Normans
conquered Sicily during the 11th century, some elements of the Arab world were not removed, but
assimilated and improved. In this respect, we can talk of an historical continuity between Arab and
Norman dominations in Sicily. Institutionally, the Normans combined the administrative
organisation of the Byzantines, Arabs, and Lombards with their own conceptions of feudal law and
order to forge a unique government. Under this state, there was great religious freedom,

Ontological Argument Vs Design Argument
Of the three theistic arguments presented by the text, I find the design , or the teleological
argument to be the most persuasive because unlike the other two arguments (ontological and first

ontological and first cause argument are both more based in pure logic and reasoning, and they
also can both be easily challenged for the same reason. On the other hand, the design argument
focuses less on how the existence of Godcould be explained in the terms of a catalyst , and more
how there is a statistically improbable amount of order in our universe(called Maximally Orderly

Medieval Marriage Laws Essay
Marriage laws in medieval England were for the most part canon laws. Laws which were legal
principles and regulations created and enforced through ecclesiastical and hierarchical authorities of
the Church. Marriage customs in medieval England included the age of the betrothed, dowries, and
the social status of the woman in relation to the man, because concubines also had legal status in
medieval times. The tradition of medieval marriageincludes the traditional color of marriage, the
tradition of maid of honor, bridal veil, garters, and flowers. These are many things which are still
prevalent today in wedding ceremonies. So looking at these laws, customs, and tradition it
becomes clearer how marriages were made, how marriage contracts affected both families. It also

were defined by the Bible. Canon laws are laws set forth by the teaching of the Bible; therefore the
laws which govern marriage can be found in the Bible, and have been interpreted by those in
authority in the Church. First and foremost the laws state that there are two parts to a marriage; the
first being consent, and the second being consummation. In book four of, Marriage Canons from
the Decretum of Gratian and The Decretals, Sext, Clementines and Extravagantes, it is written,

Background Checks Are The Most Effective Way Of Preventing...
Background checks are the most effective way of preventing gun crimes. There are multiple cases
of school and community shootings and how it could be prevented if there were some sort of
system to catch perpetrators. Gun violence has been an issue since the 1970s and started to peak in
the 1980s and 1990s. GunViolence is violence committed with the use of a gun and recently there
has been an increase in gun crimes, but due to background checks they have decreased. A
background check is the process of looking up and compiling criminal records, commercial
records and financial records of an individual or an organization. It is proven that background
checks reduce homicide and suicides and background checks are the most effective way to reduce
gun related crimes. Background checks are only as effective as the person or company doing it, so
when a gun company fails to complete a proper background check, they should be held accountable
for the customer s actions.
Backgrounds checks are the most effective way of preventing gun related crimes. A study, done by
the National Library of Medicine, examines the relationship between the types of background
information check required by states prior to firearm purchases, and firearm deaths and the results
of the study concluded that more background checks are associated with fewer deaths. The Brady
Handgun Violence Prevention Actis an Act of the United States Congress that mandated federal

complications that come with prolonged isolation. Arthur Miller, an American playwright of
multiple plays, specifically Death of a Salesman, has won multiple awards, such as; Pulitzer Prize
for Drama, and a Tony Award for Best Play. Miller, is able to distinctly represent complications,
that are coupled with isolation, for Linda and Willy Loman, coping mechanisms for isolation are
vastly different from one another, and still they both succeed in contributing to Willy s own
isolation.
For some isolation is due to themselves, others are faced with isolation from another. Linda
Loman is the later. Blocked out from her husband, his mental stability, work aspects of his life,

fifty dollars and pretend to me that it s his pay? [Death of a Salesman P.56], Linda to Biff and
Happy: He s been trying to kill himself. [Death of a Salesman P.58], and Linda to Biff and
Happy: ... She chokes, wipes her eyes. I was looking for a fuse. The lights blew out, and I went
down to the cellar. And behind the fuse box it happened to fall out was a length of a rubber pipe

  • 3. Interview With Soft Skills If asked in an interview what soft skills you possess, most people would say the obvious ones such as friendliness, hardworking, punctual, team player, etc. but in today s business world you will have to be much more convincing than that. Most of us would tell a potential employer those skills that we believe the employer would want us to possess. It is not that easy anymore as employers are looking for more. Soft skills are increasingly sought out by employers in addition to standard qualifications. Soft skills are behavioral competencies. • 15. An Age Of Doubt By James Joyce Frequently referred to as an age of doubt, the Modernist period of literature was characterized by authors who sought to challenge the notion of a literary text containing a single truth or meaning. Modernist writers went against societal and cultural customs by questioning literature and focusing on the individual experience of a text. As a result, much of modern literature destabilizes meaning through the use of ambiguityand suspense. Accordingly, ambiguity plays a central role in James Joyces short story, Eveline. Throughout the story, nineteen year old Eveline contemplates leaving her home in Dublin to pursue a happier life with a sailor named Frank. At home, she leads a dismal life with her violent father, and therefore the prospect of life with Frank in Buenos Ayres presents itself as an enticing escape. However, Eveline finds herself trapped between familiarity and freedom, between what she could do and what she wants to do. While numerous critics have attempted to uncover whether Eveline favours her staying or leaving, the story remains ambiguous with its two mutually exclusive meanings (Luft 48). In Joyce s Eveline, ambiguity obscures the answer the reader seeks and reveals that Eveline cannot make a choice because her situation is inescapable putting the reader in a position of hermeneutic conflict, analogous to Eveline s irresolvable inner conflict (Luft 50). Throughout Eveline, the ambiguity surrounding Frank s character is a major source of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Impact Of Wearing Formal Clothing On Cognitive Processing Article Analysis Assignment In their study, the authors endeavored to examine the impact of wearing formal clothing on cognitive processing. The authors want to explore a difference, if any, between the abstract thought processes of a participant wearing formal clothes. As for their hypothesis, they suspect that wearing formal clothing induces more abstract cognitive processing. In layman s terms, the authors are suggesting that increases of social comfort encourages concrete thinking while less social comfort encourages abstract thinking. But Lucy can be more carefully examined too, she transforms in the movie from a naГЇve unmarried 19 year old girl into a powerful sexual being. Lucie s behavior was once seen as evil during Victorian times, so it seems natural that she was the one murdered in the film and not Mina. But in the end, it is Mina they should have feared, her intelligence surpassed their evil. • 24. Book Report on Apology Essay Book Report on Apology In the Apology , Socrates tackles his accusers against certain accusations made against him in the Court of Law of Athens, Greece. The nature of the accusation that has caused him to stand trial is such that Socrates is an evil doer, and a curious person, who searches into things under the earth and in heaven, and he makes the worse appear the better cause; and he teaches the aforesaid doctrines to others (Plato. The Republic and other plays. pg 449. Doubleday publishing; New York 1989). Also he rebuttals the charge of not believing in Gods while believing in higher divinities. The charge, he shows how ludicrous was indeed in nature since how can anyone believe in flute playing and not the flute player (Plato, pg 457). How can one believe in spiritual and divine agencies, and not in spirits or demigods? But ultimately Socrates defense is his self lessness. He attributes his deeds to his duty towards God. He makes it clear that the obligation to truth is far more closer to God than any other social one that is marked by malice. His poverty, his unchanging and impartial ways that he followed all his life to search for the truth and when having found it, give it to others without taking into consideration what the government in power would say or do about it in itself is an evidence and a virtue that rises above all others to prove him innocent. His defense is simple and artless because it is the truth, within which some more properties emerge. One of these can be identified as the simplicity of truth and the other is its universality. Truly, although several impugn Socrates of wrong doing and misguiding the youth, he was not the first or the last one tried on such a charge. This points to the nature of truth to be unchanging. Essay about The Inadequacy of Paley s Argument from Design The Inadequacy of the Argument from Design William Paley s teleological argument (also known as the argument from design) is an attempt to prove the existence of god. This argument succeeds in proving that while existence was created by an aggregation of forces, to define these forces, as a conscious, rational, and ultimately godlike is dubious. Although the conclusions are valid, the argument makes several logical errors. The teleological argument relies on inductive reasoning, rendering the argument itself valid, but unsound. The argument fails to apply its own line of reasoning to itself, resulting in infinite regression. Beyond the scope of its logical flaws, the arguments content lacks accurate comparisons. The argument hinges on a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although this type of argument is practical at predicting patterns of re occurring events, they are never legitimately sound. Consider the sunrise. It has risen every day for thousands of years on end. Therefore, it will rise tomorrow. Despite the odds of this happening being very high, there is not a one hundred percent chance that it will. Furthermore, consider the existence of the universe itself. Although the odds of life being created by a random amalgamation of forces are very low, the correct combination for life to exist only has to occur once. From that point forward, evolution and a reaction to external stimuli allows life to change naturally. The argument also indulges in an infinite regression. It assumes that a transcendent god created the entire universe. However, it fails to account for what created the god. As stated in the lecture slides, a committee of lesser beings may have created the god, but that begs the question about who created the committee. One could object to this idea and believe that god has always existed, transcending time and reality itself. Once again, however, this logic is just as applicable to the universe. The universe is as capable of existing forever as a god is. William Paley further begs the question in stating that because of perceived complexities in an entity, it must have been designed. This perceived relation between complexity and design is an inherently ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
