Purpose
In this assignment students will explore the powerful connection and influence of culture on nutrition and health. The purpose is to emphasize that culture influences our values, beliefs and practices related to nutrition. Evidence base research shows that by understanding the nutrition habits specific to a cultural group the nurse can individualize the care of the patients. Which certainly facilitates patient wellbeing and health.
Each group of students will choose a culture and explore concepts such as why it is significant for health professional to understand the importance of culture on nutrition.
The purpose of this project is not to stereotype or make assumptions about a person based on his or her culture. But to enhance cultural awareness and individualize patient care.

LGBT HOPP Strategic Plan Slides
Colorado's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, & Transgender Health Outcomes Planning Project aims to reduce health disparities in the LGBT population by establishing a strategic plan by June 2012. Background Information
When studying the different religions of the world we tend of focus on the distinctions between these religions
and understanding what makes them unique, however it is important to note that although these religions are
distinct and unique in their own way, there are common themes and structures that can be applied to them.
Some of the common elements present in the different religions that we will be studying this semester are:
- Sacred Scriptures and Sacred Writings
o Divinely inspired writings that contain origins of the religion, essential beliefs, and major
teachings. Some religions also revere writings of prominent figures throughout their history
who have contributed to expounding the theology of the religion (ex: writings of the Jewish
saints)
- Beliefs and Practices
o Tenets of the religion that unify its community of believers on a variety of topics ranging
from their relationship with the divine, soteriology, creation, eschatology, anthropology, etc.
- Prayer and Worship
o Liturgical practices that believers of the faith participate in throughout their daily lives. Some
liturgical practices and rituals of prayer are performed in conjunction with the celebration of
religious festivals at particular times of the week (ex: Sabbath) or times of the year (ex:
Christmas)
- Morality – Code of Ethics
o Guiding principles that adherents of the faith abide by throughout their lives informed by the
theology of the religion
- History
o Understanding how the religion was established and the advances of the religion throughout
human history that shape the global image of the religion today while also recognizing
changes in theology that have occurred throughout history due to major historical events

John Doe, Patient One, is in late stage of kidney disease. If he does not receive a new kidney, then he is predicted to die within a week. Doe is 45, single, and has no children. Doctors theorize that Doe damaged his kidney by not following a low-salt diet. Doe inherited one million dollars and is known for giving money to charity. Without a transplant, he will probably be forced to spend all his money searching for a kidney outside of the usual legal channels. Patient Two is Jane Doe (no relation to John). Patient Two is a mother of two children (ages 21 and 24). She is divorced and 55 years old. She developed kidney problems due to eating a high-fat and high-sugar diet. If she does not receive a kidney within one month, doctors believe she will die. Patient Three is an orphan. This orphan lives in a state facility. She was born with a genetic condition that constantly damages her kidney. The only known approach to her condition is to provide her with a kidney transplant every so often. Ritual, symbol, and myth as types of religious expression, with examples selected from the literate
and nonliterate religions of the world.
Course Overview
This course explores some of the principle ways in which humans employ myth, ritual, and
symbols to articulate and express religious beliefs and practices. It analyzes the relationships
among these three modes of religious expression, and their relationships to other dimensions of
religion. We will examine these aspects of religion as they occur in a variety of religious
traditions, comparing and contrasting different ways in which religion is experienced. Discussion
of these concepts will emphasize the development of critical thinking skills.
This course broadens students' understanding of the theoretical categories of academic study of
religion, thus meeting GS requirements in Humanities and Fine Arts that call for addressing

The patient refuses to take the medication because he said it will affect his sex life The NP must work with the patient to respect the fact that he doesn’t want the medication (autonomy), and needs to find a solution that would prevent him from going into kidney failure and other complications, which is in his best interest (beneficence). Although medications are the best choice, forcing the patient to accept the medication will result in probably patient leaving the care (non-maleficence). Finally, the NP needs to consider the impact that the patient’s choices might have on others if he starts to go into preventable kidney failure, he’ll need dialysis, which affects other people who need the same treatment (justice). So before making the final decision the NP must consider all four principles of health care ethics, which will help the NP make the choice that will have the best possible benefits for both the patient and society.

When studying the different religions of the world we tend of focus on the distinctions between these religions
and understanding what makes them unique, however it is important to note that although these religions are
distinct and unique in their own way, there are common themes and structures that can be applied to them.
Some of the common elements present in the different religions that we will be studying this semester are:
- Sacred Scriptures and Sacred Writings
o Divinely inspired writings that contain origins of the religion, essential beliefs, and major
teachings. Some religions also revere writings of prominent figures throughout their history
who have contributed to expounding the theology of the religion (ex: writings of the Jewish
saints)
- Beliefs and Practices
o Tenets of the religion that unify its community of believers on a variety of topics ranging
from their relationship with the divine, soteriology, creation, eschatology, anthropology, etc.
- Prayer and Worship
o Liturgical practices that believers of the faith participate in throughout their daily lives. Some

Doctors theorize that Doe damaged his kidney by not following a low-salt diet. Doe inherited one million dollars and is known for giving money to charity. Without a transplant, he will probably be forced to spend all his money searching for a kidney outside of the usual legal channels. Patient Two is Jane Doe (no relation to John). Patient Two is a mother of two children (ages 21 and 24). She is divorced and 55 years old. She developed kidney problems due to eating a high-fat and high-sugar diet. If she does not receive a kidney within one month, doctors believe she will die. Patient Three is an orphan. This orphan lives in a state facility. Next, compare and contrast them based on the criteria provided. Preferably, the two (2) religions you select are not any that you practice now or have practiced in the past.
Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you:
1. Select two (2) religions from those that we have studied so far. Identify and describe the cultural and geographical origin of each religion.
2. Identify and describe three (3) specific religious practices of each religion.
3. Provide a specific example of how each religion is practiced in different parts of the world today.
4. Use at least three (3) quality resources in this assignment. Note: Wikipedia and similar Websites do not qualify as quality resources. Document your sources using APA Style for in-text citations and references.
5. Write clearly and coherently using correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and mechanics.

Ritual, symbol, and myth as types of religious expression, with examples selected from the literate
and nonliterate religions of the world.
Course Overview
This course explores some of the principle ways in which humans employ myth, ritual, and
symbols to articulate and express religious beliefs and practices. It analyzes the relationships
among these three modes of religious expression, and their relationships to other dimensions of
religion. We will examine these aspects of religion as they occur in a variety of religious
traditions, comparing and contrasting different ways in which religion is experienced. Discussion
of these concepts will emphasize the development of critical thinking skills.
This course broadens students' understanding of the theoretical categories of academic study of
religion, thus meeting GS requirements in Humanities and Fine Arts that call for addressing

The patient refuses to take the medication because he said it will affect his sex life The NP must work with the patient to respect the fact that he doesn’t want the medication (autonomy), and needs to find a solution that would prevent him from going into kidney failure and other complications, which is in his best interest (beneficence). Although medications are the best choice, forcing the patient to accept the medication will result in probably patient leaving the care (non-maleficence). Finally, the NP needs to consider the impact that the patient’s choices might have on others if he starts to go into preventable kidney failure, he’ll need dialysis, which affects other people who need the same treatment (justice). So before making the final decision the NP must consider all four principles of health care ethics, which will help the NP make the choice that will have the best possible benefits for both the patient and society.

A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.
