A regional government has control over a specific small area and allows for tax dollars to be combined more efficiently for projects that benefit the entire region. A regional government would have exclusive power over socioeconomic development, revenue sources, infrastructure, economic zones, land use, and other areas within its territory. There are proposals for symmetrical regional governments that would divide the country into 16 equal regions, as well as asymmetrical models like the Bangsamoro and Cordillera regions that would have more autonomy. Regional governments ensure laws are enforced locally so the central government can focus on national issues.
