“The very best teachers teach from the heart.”
REFLECTION ON THE 5 C’s
Effort and hard work are important to be able to accomplish
a task. But the most important are the 5 C’s namely Commitment,
Competence, Compassion, Creativity, and Character. Having these
qualities will make me a successful teacher someday. If I will
not apply these qualities, I am pretty sure that it will be a
great failure in my life.
Commitment is an agreement or pledge to do something. As a
future teacher, I will surely be committed with my profession,
vocation, and mission as well. In every little thing that I do,
I will ensure that I will always keep my commitment with me, my
responsibilities, and duties at the same time. I should be
responsible with my actions together with my words because in
the near future I will be one of those people that will be
highly respected in the society.
Competence is the quality or state of being competent.
Being competent means having the capacity or capability to
function or develop in a particular or specific way. As a future
educator, I am expected to be capable of doing things that are
expected of in a teacher. And as of now, I am still undergoing
some modification and training in order to become globally
competent in the future in a way that I can be able to get along
or be of higher level among those future teachers too worldwide.
I will be equipped with the proper knowledge, skills, and values
that a teacher must have, and I will be a “glocal” thinker,
someone who will think positively beyond positive things, and of
course, someone who will think and act both globally and
locally. Even though I am here in the Philippines I can be able
to know what is happening in any other parts of the world
because of the rising global education.
Compassion is a sympathetic consciousness of others’
distress together with a desire to alleviate or lessen it. It
also means having an ardent affection, love, a strong liking or
desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept. In
my case as a pre-service teacher, I have love for teaching and I
think it is one of the important things that a teacher must
possess. As what they say, the very best teachers teach from the
heart and teachers who love teaching teach learners to love
learning. To teach allows you to learn and that when you have
learned well, you can teach well. I will make sure that I will
do what I love and love what I do which is teaching because with
this all things are possible to happen. There is nothing you
can’t do when you love what you’re doing. One can do great
things with love.

“The very best teachers teach from the heart.”
Creativity is the quality or state of being creative. Being
creative means having the ability or power to imagine and create
rather than to imitate. A teacher should be a wide thinker in
constructing such things that will make the learner’s
experiences to be wonderful, enjoyable, and fun. As what they
say, we learn better when we laugh. But being creative does not
always mean imaginations. Mostly it should fall into higher-
order learning where there is an application to reality of what
is just being thought of before. If we will just think of
something, dream of something, wish for something without doing
anything that will make that thing come true, it will just and
forever be an imagination, a dream, or a wish. It will never
change unless you act upon it. Actions speak louder than words.
And last but not the least, Character. Character means
having attributes or features that make up an individual. But of
course it does not purely mean of physical features.
Professional teachers are of good moral character, a human,
loving, virtuous, and morally mature person. I will never stop
learning even though I’m already a professional because life
never stops teaching lessons that we can use in such situations.
I will learn to accept my mistakes. I will consider my learners’
individual differences and cultural diversity so that my
teaching will be effective and productive. I should facilitate
learning, possess expertise, be skilled enough in the science
and art of teaching, have a pleasing personality, a model of
values, have passion for teaching, and has a sense of humor,
patience, and enthusiasm. I should be passionate in teaching and
should not see it only as a job, but also as a mission, a
vocation, and a profession. And of course, dedication to
teaching is the true essence of professionalism. To be able to
become an effective teacher, one should be personally,
intellectually, emotionally, holistically, and professionally
developed and prepared to face all the challenges in the world.
In the teaching profession, why does a teacher needs to be
as almost perfect as possessing the 5 C’s? Simple, being a
teacher means being a role model, not just physically but
holistically. He/she is a role model with great knowledge,
skills, values, attitudes, and high moral standards. He/she is a
role model that promotes respect in each other’s differences.
He/she is a role model that corrects mistakes with love in order
to avoid hindrance in learning. He/she is a role model that
promotes global education, competitive and skilled enough with
universal attitude and appropriate values to teach students
globally. He/she is flexible in any way possible, anytime, and
in any place whoever he/she will/may encounter. And lastly,
teachers need to be as almost perfect as possessing the 5 C’s
because teaching is the noblest profession which will shape each
and every one of us no matter what or who we choses to be.

Reflection on the 5 C

  • 1. Chinly Ruth T. Alberto BEEd-4A Social Dimensions of Education “The very best teachers teach from the heart.” REFLECTION ON THE 5 C’s Effort and hard work are important to be able to accomplish a task. But the most important are the 5 C’s namely Commitment, Competence, Compassion, Creativity, and Character. Having these qualities will make me a successful teacher someday. If I will not apply these qualities, I am pretty sure that it will be a great failure in my life. Commitment is an agreement or pledge to do something. As a future teacher, I will surely be committed with my profession, vocation, and mission as well. In every little thing that I do, I will ensure that I will always keep my commitment with me, my responsibilities, and duties at the same time. I should be responsible with my actions together with my words because in the near future I will be one of those people that will be highly respected in the society. Competence is the quality or state of being competent. Being competent means having the capacity or capability to function or develop in a particular or specific way. As a future educator, I am expected to be capable of doing things that are expected of in a teacher. And as of now, I am still undergoing some modification and training in order to become globally competent in the future in a way that I can be able to get along or be of higher level among those future teachers too worldwide. I will be equipped with the proper knowledge, skills, and values that a teacher must have, and I will be a “glocal” thinker, someone who will think positively beyond positive things, and of course, someone who will think and act both globally and locally. Even though I am here in the Philippines I can be able to know what is happening in any other parts of the world because of the rising global education. Compassion is a sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate or lessen it. It also means having an ardent affection, love, a strong liking or desire for or devotion to some activity, object, or concept. In my case as a pre-service teacher, I have love for teaching and I think it is one of the important things that a teacher must possess. As what they say, the very best teachers teach from the heart and teachers who love teaching teach learners to love learning. To teach allows you to learn and that when you have learned well, you can teach well. I will make sure that I will do what I love and love what I do which is teaching because with this all things are possible to happen. There is nothing you can’t do when you love what you’re doing. One can do great things with love.
  • 2. Chinly Ruth T. Alberto BEEd-4A Social Dimensions of Education “The very best teachers teach from the heart.” Creativity is the quality or state of being creative. Being creative means having the ability or power to imagine and create rather than to imitate. A teacher should be a wide thinker in constructing such things that will make the learner’s experiences to be wonderful, enjoyable, and fun. As what they say, we learn better when we laugh. But being creative does not always mean imaginations. Mostly it should fall into higher- order learning where there is an application to reality of what is just being thought of before. If we will just think of something, dream of something, wish for something without doing anything that will make that thing come true, it will just and forever be an imagination, a dream, or a wish. It will never change unless you act upon it. Actions speak louder than words. And last but not the least, Character. Character means having attributes or features that make up an individual. But of course it does not purely mean of physical features. Professional teachers are of good moral character, a human, loving, virtuous, and morally mature person. I will never stop learning even though I’m already a professional because life never stops teaching lessons that we can use in such situations. I will learn to accept my mistakes. I will consider my learners’ individual differences and cultural diversity so that my teaching will be effective and productive. I should facilitate learning, possess expertise, be skilled enough in the science and art of teaching, have a pleasing personality, a model of values, have passion for teaching, and has a sense of humor, patience, and enthusiasm. I should be passionate in teaching and should not see it only as a job, but also as a mission, a vocation, and a profession. And of course, dedication to teaching is the true essence of professionalism. To be able to become an effective teacher, one should be personally, intellectually, emotionally, holistically, and professionally developed and prepared to face all the challenges in the world. In the teaching profession, why does a teacher needs to be as almost perfect as possessing the 5 C’s? Simple, being a teacher means being a role model, not just physically but holistically. He/she is a role model with great knowledge, skills, values, attitudes, and high moral standards. He/she is a role model that promotes respect in each other’s differences. He/she is a role model that corrects mistakes with love in order to avoid hindrance in learning. He/she is a role model that promotes global education, competitive and skilled enough with universal attitude and appropriate values to teach students globally. He/she is flexible in any way possible, anytime, and in any place whoever he/she will/may encounter. And lastly, teachers need to be as almost perfect as possessing the 5 C’s because teaching is the noblest profession which will shape each and every one of us no matter what or who we choses to be.
