Reinstating the Military Draft Essay
When you enjoy the freedoms you have living in the United States, you can thank those men and
women who serve in the armed forces. But in recent years, our armed forces have seen a decline in
enlistments, which has reignited and old debate. Should we reinstate the Military Draft? This one
question has sparked a debate nationwide, between friends, family, and even perfect strangers.
Reinstating the draft is just one way to ensure people can continue to enjoy those freedoms the armed
forces have fought for over the years. With all the controversy surrounding mandatory military
service, past and recent incidents have shown a greater need to protect ourselves from those who wish
to do us harm. Continued decline in enlistment, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is not the truth at all. Mandatory service will provide those who serve many different types of
opportunities. Each man and woman, who serves in the military, no matter what branch, has the
opportunity to choose their field of work, or receive advanced training in an area they wish to pursue
in the civilian world after their enlistment. Furthermore, they may even be able to choose which state
they would live in while serving in the armed forces. This does not sound like slavery or even forced
slavery, this sounds more like an opportunity to receive training and other necessary qualities
companies and organizations are looking for in the civilian workforce. When looking at the whole
picture, and deciding the pro s and con s of the military draft I have one final are for you to look at.
Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population.
With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to
represent and provide their service to our country. Along with proper representation, the military cost
would be lowered. Although the armed forces would have to pay individuals more and the additional
cost of food, equipment, and other essential needs would go up the, the cost of recruiting, advertising
and additional benefits to lure persons into the recruiting

U.s. Trust, Bank Of America
The History
U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management (formerly known as U.S. Trust Corporation)
was founded in 1853 and is currently one of the nation s oldest and largest investment and wealth
management firms. Prior to becoming a subsidiary of Bank of America, N.A., U.S. Trust was acquired
by Charles Schwab, and Co. Before and after the acquisition by Charles Schwab, and Co, U.S. Trust
expanded its operations into many new local markets making it one of the largest fiduciary standard
investment management firms to have offices in a significant number of local markets. The expansion
into these markets was precipitated by the realization that many markets with substantial wealth were
being underserved. From Wichita, Kansas, where clients had generational farms and oil and gas
wealth, to Phoenix, Arizona, where clients were moving for retirement, U.S. Trust had dedicated
offices in many regions in order to have a presence in underserved markets in the wealth management
industry.
Following the sale of U.S. Trust to Bank of America in November of 2006, for $3.3 billion in cash, the
new management team at U.S. Trust began to reevaluate its presence in so many local markets. Over
the course of six to seven years, U.S. Trust closed or significantly reduced many of its local offices
sending those accounts that had been serviced locally to new Regional service centers located in
Dallas, Texas, Providence, Rhode Island, and Atlanta, Georgia.

Michael Newdow s Pledge Of Allegiance
I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it
stands, one nation, under Congress, the Supreme Court, the Declaration of Independence, our
founding fathers, and the President, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance in 1892 (Baer). He did this in the memory of the
400th anniversary of Columbus discovering America ( The Pledge ). In 1954, Congress added the
words, under God to the pledge; this was done for the differentiation of the United States from the
Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Recently, there has been great controversy about the words under God existing in the nations Pledge
of Allegiance. Michael Newdow, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Placing God in the pledge was thought of as a term that could be applied to all religions and creeds;
thus, the word God would be describing something more than just material existence.
Building the basis of the United States was the founding fathers of the nation. They were not all
necessarily under a Christian belief; nonetheless, they did wish for the people of the United States to
have morals and values (Williams).
On the contrary, some people do not feel that the nation should follow what the founding fathers
thought and did. Gewertz states, We decide to keep these sayings or traditions in play just because
they were the values of our founding fathers. I have to say that not all the values of our founding
fathers are values I want to embody.
Despite the fact that the founding fathers assumed the existence of an almighty power, they also
protected the right of the people to believe or not. Gewertz does not agree with all ideas of the
founding fathers, but he also says, the phrase under God is in keeping with the intentions of the
Founding Fathers. They anchored their thinking in the idea of a higher law in order to ensure that all
power does not reside in the state. Agreeing with Gewertz, Cameron thinks that the founding fathers
would not be too happy with the way things are going now.
Furthermore, in recognition of the words under God being added to the Pledge of Allegiance,
President Eisenhower told of how thankful he was

Police Brutality Using Necessary Force
Police Brutality
On May 29, 2013, a 14 year old boy was walking down the street with his puppy minding his own
business. About, seconds later cops arrived and the boy made eye contact with the cops. The boy gave
a weird look at the cops and the cops took him down to the ground. The cops were choking the boy
and the puppy got injured from the take down. Using unnecessary force to an innocent citizen that has
done nothing wrong is unacceptable. Police brutality I think are some of several problems in our
society. If you don t know what it is, police brutality is where a police officer uses unnecessary force
to a civilian. For example, when you are walking and you see police officer and you both make eye
contact, and give a mean look. The

Nick Carraway In The Great Gatsby
July 15/2015
As I began reading the novel The Great Gatsby I was introduced to many important characters. First
off I met Nick Carraway the self proclaimed narrator of the story. Nick is a young man who moved
from Minnesota to the city of New York to learn the bond business. I learned that Nick studied at Yale
and served time in World War One. Nick describes himself as an honest man, who does not judge onto
others however contradicts himself when he says he is highly moral and has a stronger dignity than
others. Nicks character really intrigues me because although what he says about his personality, I
believe by the end of the novel he will be changed man and become a different person. This can be
perceived early on because in chapter two he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is described as a beautiful young woman. Born and raised in Louisville Kentucky, Daisy was
wealthy and rich from childhood. Nick describes her as charming yet shallow. Much like the other
characters and society in New York, Daisy is careless and only cares about money and power. Thus
when she married her husband Tom she was aware of his wealth and power. Honestly, in all opinions
Daisys character makes me mad. Not only is she a selfish person she is also very materialistic, it is
hard to believe that this is Gatsbys love. Lastly, the character I am most intrigued by is the mysterious
Jay Gatsby. For some reason, Gatsby has become my favourite character. Maybe it is because of the
extravagant parties he throws, or maybe it is because of his mystery, however all I know is I have
become entrapped in Gatsby. For the first chapters of the book Gatsby is mentioned by others but is
not present. Many rumours and gossip circle about Gatsby, he could even be described as type of
celebrity . He can be told as a young man around thirty years old living the American dream . He is
wealthy, and is among the new money members in long island. Gatsby has great hopes and desires yet
to be discovered because of his under

Ba Research Report Essay
A research report with a word limit of 1,500 on British Airway s (BA) change program that resulted in
long running industrial disputes between its management and crew members in 2009 2011.
The contextual information about the BA s introduction of strategic changes why BA produced this
change, explain market (rising fuel costs etc.)
British Airways is the UK s largest airline. Since becoming privatized in 1987, BA has continued to
grow despite increased competition (Connell amp; Williamson, 2011).
The UK s economic climate had a large influence to why the British Airways industrial occurred. In
2011, UK inflation was 4% on the previous year, compared to an average pay rise of 2.3% for the
same period. This means that the cost of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The unfreezing phase (Lewin s model) of this change was a gradual, drawn out process.
Time:
As this was not a company in crisis there wasn t a need to implement change reactively, British
Airways had time to achieve their long term strategy.
Scope:
British Airways did not require a transformation of the organisation as a whole. A realignment of the
cabin crew s operations and wage structure was the desired scope for this change. However, due to the
industrial action taken by Unite the change had an impact organisation wide.
Preservation:
It is important that BA preserves what makes British Airways, British Airways. This means they need
to retain their brand identity, because this is one of their biggest selling points. It is also important to
not destroy the business heritage and culture.
Job security for the remaining cabin crew will be at an all time low. Key members of staff need to be
reassured of their position so that BA doesn t lose these assets to competitors.
Diversity:
The change should not affect diversity between divisions. This means that the culture should remain
consistent throughout BA, from pilots, to cabin crew, to administration staff.
Capability:
The individual within the cabin crew will need to be capable of adapting to the new operational
requirements and be able to accept the change in

which had framed itself in his lungs, abruptly burst, and released an amount of issue, which he kept on
hurling while he had control; in any case, as that fizzled, the organs of breath turned out to be bit by

The Seventh Man Survivor Guilt Quotes
...we often take responsibility in a way that goes beyond what we can reasonably be held responsible
for. (Sherman 154). Philosophers explain survivor guilt using the preceding terms as an internal
conflict between two important characters. The foregoing quote from The Moral Logic of Survivor
Guilt defends the claim that the narrator of The Seventh Man should forgive himself for his failure to
save K.
The narrator of The Seventh Man experiences survivor guilt as an effect of failing to save K. s life.
Many people quarrel over whether the Seventh Man should or should not forgive himself for the
actions he took to save K. On the other hand, many events that lead up to K. s death show the
reasonable explanations behind why the Seventh ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Like previously stated, the only counterclaim people have on why he should not is the fact that they
blame him for having enough time. In The Seventh Man , the narrator states, ...K. s parents failed to
blame me... and ...everyone was so careful never to say anything to me about what had happened.
(Murakami 140). This evidence from the story is very crucial because it backs up the information
given about whether or not the counterclaim was logical. In this case the counterclaim happened to not
be so logical because the Seventh Man is not suffering from the blame of others but the blame of
himself. Additionally, the feelings the Seventh Man is having are considered normal when
experiencing survivor guilt however are not considered accurate. ...many of the feelings that express
character are not about what one has done or should have done, but rather about what one cares deeply
about. (Sherman 154). This quote explains why people should not feel guilty in a situation they could
not reasonably be held responsible for. It also explains why they are feeling guilty to the point in
which it is saying that you only experience survivor guilt when you are close to the person being
affected. Knowing this it tells you more about the Seventh Man himself and that he is actually a
valuable person

The lyrics express Guthrie s belief that the working class should have the same rights as the rich. He
very proudly carried the torch of singing songs about the American worker. Woody Guthrie s music
was not written down, but instead sung, performed, and taught completely by memory. The structure
of this song is easy and memorable, using an ACAB format, which repeats the beginning of the
melody (A section) for the third line. There was a certain Americana aspect to his folk music. He was
a migrant farmer traveling as a country singer, using only his guitar and voice (occasionally using a
harmonica) in his performances. He created songs from the sights he saw as he traveled all over the
USA as a country singer, and spoke out against the lack of fairness and justice of capitalism and poor
treatment of blue collar workers. He preached that his folk music was not just something that was
made just to sell and make money , it was intensively focused on political and worldly events.
Nat King Cole s Unforgettable released in 1952. Nat King Cole was widely accepted among white

Essay about Neutral Diction in Disillusionment of Ten...
The Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, what a time of night! The houses are haunted by white night
gowns. Everything is the same from one house to the next. Not only does Wallace Stevens hint at the
Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, he also brings forth feelings of loneliness and despair through his
select use of neutral diction. Stevens emphasizes neutral diction using parallelism and repetition, the
sameness of the syntax, and an ironic change in wording. Nevertheless, the emotion of the poem is
only brought about by Stevens specific use of neutral diction.
None are green, or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings, or yellow with blue rings. A
common theme runs throughout this poem, which is linked together through the ... Show more content

These feelings are reflected onto the reader, who in turn obtains the same emotions as the author, those
of loneliness and despair for the situation.
In every poem, the diction an author chooses can drastically change the impression the reader
acquires. Disillusionment of Ten O Clock has proven itself to not be an exception. Likewise, the order
the words are placed in can also alter a poem. Stevens was aware of this fact and so in his poem, he
paid special attention to the syntax of his words. More specifically, the author used the sameness of
the syntax to help get his point across to the reader. The majority of the sentences and lines in this
poem are similarly structured. ...Or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings... In doing this,
Stevens was able to show the emotions of loneliness and despair that he felt at this hour.
Syntax and parallelism also played a large part in the author s emphasis of his point. By piecing both
of these things together, Stevens was able to provide the reader with an ironic change in wording for
the last four lines of the poem. It is perhaps, these last four lines that are most important in the entire
poem. Not only do they offer the reader juxtaposition between characters, but they also illustrate the
author s loneliness and despair. People are not going to dream of baboons and periwinkles. Only, here
and there, an old sailor, drunk and asleep in his boots, catches tigers in red weather. The sudden

Evulation of Audit Tenure, Industry Specialization, and...
The objective of this study is to evaluate audit tenure, industry specialization, and firm size and its
correlation to financial restatements. A client s restatements suggest low audit quality because it
indicates that the client s financial statements are not in line with GAAP. I analyzed a sample of 250
firm year restatements from public companies during 2008 to 2012. I gathered the data using
COMPUSTAT and AuditAnalytics. For my results, I have found that auditor tenure has a negative
correlation with financial restatement. I also found that industry expertise has a negative correlation
with financial restatements. Further, it appears that firm size has no correlation with financial
restatements. In conclusion, it turns out my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Agreeing with Davis, Myers, Rigsby, and Boone (2007) findings suggest that the longer the audit
tenure is, the audit quality tends to be higher. Regarding prior research literature regarding industry
specialization and financial restatements, Owhoso (2002) and Solomon (1999) findings suggest the
relationship between industry specialization and the increase of audit quality. Finally, prior research
literature regarding firm size and financial restatements show that Boone (2007) findings indicate a
positive correlation between the two factors.
My research is different from the prior studies in the fact that the studies do not include earnings per
share and return on assets in their testing. I believe both variables measure a firm s profitability and its
ability to generate cash. These two indicators allow for my results to indicate whether a firm s
financial statements are doing well and have not been restated based on the experimental variables. I
believe that my findings have proved empirical evidence that longer auditor tenure and industry
specialization are negatively associated with low audit quality. As for firm size, there is currently no
correlation with low audit quality
Audits are meant to contribute to a company s financials by bringing assurance that they are in
accordance with GAAP. Auditors provide high quality audit opinions on a client and one

Spinal cord injuries result from a fracture or dislocation of the vertebrae that is typically due to a

Essay on Higher Security at College Football Games
College football is a major part of many peoples lives, especially here in the South. Whether we or
someone we know is an alumni, we plan to go there in the future we think the uniforms are cute, or
whatever reason, we always have one favorite team we cheer for. sometimes fans of a team will wear
a shirt with the team s logo and that is as far as their loyalty goes. Others may attend a few games a
season, but there are also those die hard fans that never miss a game or always tailgating, screaming at
the refs, and have the team s fight song as their ringtone. While all that may seem a little overboard,
there are people believe it or not, who take their team devotion as far as killing to show their devotion

A huge part of going to college football games is tailgating. People always enjoy the fellowship, food,
and for some, alcohol before watching the game. Colleges could raise the cost of the tailgating spots
slightly and make a huge amount of money. Raising the cost of a tailgating spot is yet another way just
a small amount from everyone adds up to make a huge difference for the school.
The football teams already have several companies sponsoring them, but finding more companies to
give money to the football programs would not be difficult at all. Sponsoring the team helps a
company s business and if spectators know their safety from tighter security was paid for by a certain
company, their business would increase even more. Once the idea is proposed to companies, gaining
more sponsors, and therefore more money for security, would be a breeze.
I personally love going to games. I always have so much fun, but I have also seen fans be entirely too
competitive. It is a scary feeling not knowing if something were to happen or even worse, if something
did happen, would there be security to help before myself or someone else gets hurt. I speak not only
for myself, but for all the other football fans like me when I say having tighter security on campus
during a game would lift a heavy burden off of our shoulders and make us feel a whole lot safer.
Paying for the extra security would be no problem, either with an

WHAT IS SIX SIGMA?
The word is a factual term that measures how far a given procedure goes astray from flawlessness. Six
Sigma is named after the procedure that has six standard deviations on every side of the detail

The focal thought behind Six Sigma is that on the off chance that you can quantify what number of
imperfections you have in a procedure, you can methodicallly make sense of how to dispense with
them and get as near to zero deformities as would be prudent.

Most Significant Events Essay
Some of the most significant events that took place during the 1st and 2nd century AD, was pentecost
and St Paul s conversion. Pentecost was 50 days after the Passover. Pentecost occurred when the 12
Apostles gathered in a house, when they saw a violent wind come from heaven. It filled the area, and
they saw tongues that looked like fire that separated and was above each of them. This was the first
time the Apostles were filled with the Holy Spirit, which allowed them to speak different tongues. One
of the Apostles filled with the Spirit preached to everyone that they should be baptised and they too
would be filled with the Holy Spirit. 3000 were baptised, which increased the growth of the Catholic

Mediating Variables Essay
1) Discuss the concepts of mediating and moderating variables. Be sure to clarify how these concepts
are different and how they are similar.
The reason why one variable effects another does not always occur in isolation, there are both
mediating and moderating variables that may influence a causal relationship.
Mediating Variables They are a necessary third variable between two items. That is, without mediating
variable, b , variable a will not produce a specific effect on variable, c. (Crano Brewer, 2002)
Moderating variables A third variable that can either enhance or suppress a relationship. Its existence
does not cause a specific relationship to occur. (Crano Brewer, 2002)
These concepts are similar in the sense that they both have an effect on the relationship but are
different in the sense that mediating variables are necessary in order for the relationship to exist and

Identification In Voting
Legislations are attempting to pass laws that prevent voters from showing a form of identification.
Many including myself, think that voters should present a form of identification when voting no
matter what. If people were not required to have a form of identification when voting than anyone,
citizen or not would be able to vote. Also not having and ID. when voting could become advantageous
for either Republicans or Democrats. We show some form of identification for smaller reasons, I don t
see the positive outcomes, if any of not showing an ID. when voting.
For as long as I can remember Identifications have been used to show, and verify one s identity,
whether it is to buy a small box of cigarettes or get into a place, we must show and prove who are.
There is really no excuse to not have an identification for something more important like voting.
Voters should be required to show IDs when voting in person, so that no one can vote twice. It is
pretty self explanatory. Fraud within the elections is all too common, and having to show an
Identification is a necessary risk we have to take to ensure that the person who wins, is the person
everyone actually voted for. Rarely do we hear of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mop Top Influence
One way the Beatles changed the world of music is their hair, it was called the Mop top but they
called it Arthur . The mop top is It is a straight cut collar length at the back and over the ears at the
sides, with a straight fringe (bangs) . At first people thought it was dumb but eventually realized it was
awesome but it was still mocked by adults. The mop top was first created in the 1950 s when someone
named Jürgen Vollemer left his hair down after he went swimming, and he didn t want to comb it.
Jürgen liked this style on him so the next day he recreated it and the mop top was born (at this time it
wasn t called anything). Voller moved to Paris in 1961 and Paul McCartney and John Lennon both ran
into him and liked it, so they asked him if he could cut their hair like that. Soon enough Ringo Starr

The Influence Of Technology On Society
Techno optimist or techno pessimist? That is the question. Technology throughout time has no doubt
changed our way of life. Travelling to destinations quicker, curing new diseases, or figuring out how
to cease a wide famine are examples of how technology has made advances over time. The solutions
that scientists create spark a tool that others cannot live without. But what if these technologies bring
out negative effects rather than their desired purpose? Sometimes, innovators create new inventions
that bring unintended consequences. It could range from less communication face to face, side effects
from new medicines, or pollute the earth s atmosphere. As a result of technology bringing out positive
and negative effects, many people have chosen to join a side on the issue. They are either called a
techno optimist or a techno pessimist. Both of these groups believe differently in the way technology
has brought innovations. For example, a techno optimist considers technology has made life better and
assumes further scientific discoveries in the future will no doubt improve our lives even further.
Techno pessimists however, ponder how technology has impacted human society.
Keep in mind, though, people don t always lean towards one side all the time and opinions change one
way or another. In the article Are You a Techno Optimist or a Techno Pessimist? , blog writer
Courtney Meehan challenges a question to the reader if they are either a techno optimist or a techno
pessimist.

Giant Pandas In China Research Paper
One of the endangered species in the world, Giant pandas, are mostly located in China, but they can be
found in many other zoos in the world. For example, there is a giant panda named Mei Xiang at the
National Zoo in Washington, D.C, who actually just gave birth to her baby cub in 2013. China first
started giving pandas to other countries, with no strings attached until the 1950 s and decided to make
a profit out of lending pandas to other countries. The Chinese government took advantage of the
popularity of the pandas and created relationships with other countries in the world. China and the US
naturally formed a relationship after China offered the giant pandas to show their gratitude to
President Nixon after visiting their country. But China

Standards are to put into play to prevent risk and educated. There are two types of accreditation that a
facility can choose from. There is Traditional Long Term Care Accreditation. There is also
Medicare/Medicaid certification based accreditation. A facility can choose from either of the two
options. There are also fees that facilities need to consider when looking to be accredited by the Joint
Commission. The on site fee for a nursing home choosing traditional accreditation with an average

Turing s Historiography
At this point it is worth exploring why Turing s posthumous image has only been fully reconstructed
and promoted mostly after 1989. There are wider factors in public history at work than the mere
difficulty of obtaining sources. Some of the major barriers to Turing s renaissance during the second
wave of heroism can be reckoned from historiography and context. Indeed these major reasons for
obscurity are sometimes a point of reference for commentators highlighting present day Britain s
moral superiority over the past in recognising his heroic greatness, as Peter Tatchell has argued. 1

7 The twentieth century British public demonstrated a fundamental dislike of homosexuality when
polled until relatively late. 8 This attitude has undergone a dramatic reversal over the last fifteen years,
marked by David Cameron s apology for the act in 201X. 9 10 It is also worth noting that structural
initiatives in historiography did not exist as mainstays of public history until recently. For example,
LGBT History Month only emerged in 1994, mostly as the result of American activism in academia.
Amidst a more general liberal malaise over historical and current homophobia, it can be seen that the
current promotion of Turing is, in part, a politicised attempt to atone for what is now mostly seen as an
embarrassing, cruel mistake.
Divorced from disapproval of his personal life, security concerns have been an extremely negative
factor in blocking promotion of Turing. This can be demonstrated through both the evidence above
and the comparable fortunes of his collages. It took until 19XX for Dilly Knox to receive his first
biographical volume, in which X marketed him as yet another forgotten hero .11 Similarly, the first
documentary to argue that Gordon Welchman was unfairly overlooked as a heroic mathematician due
to the NSA and Margaret Thatcher only aired in September 2015.

the first spanish conquistadors in the region now known as Texas in 1519. Texas entered the union on
December 29, 1845. Even though it took a little longer for Texas to be settled in then other U.S states
many historical events happened there. We can t forget about the Alamo and the battle that happened
there, but just north of that there lies the hill country, home of the capitol of Texas, Austin. First

My First Year Of Running Track
Seventh grade, a time of adolescence, an awkward period in which we start growing from a kid to a
young adult, in which the mature person hasn t kicked in yet. A period in time to try new things and it
was my first year of running track. One reason I decided to join was because I had a passion for sports
(mostly basketball), and my best friends convinced me join the team and if I didn t I would probably
be hanging out by myself after school. Three of my best friends consisted of Dekembae but we called
him DK for short, Minkyu, and Jay. Dekembae was mixed kid who had a single braid on his head
which would often be called a turd . Minkyu was Korean, and was often made fun of by the shape of
his head which was square, and Jay who was also Korean was so short he would often get confused
for a fourth grader. Then there was me an average height kid full of baby teeth, and full of jokes.
Dating back to a cloudy, and gloomy school day in middle school I started to feel very sick. It felt as if
someone was doing jumping jacks inside my stomach, and I had a headache the size of a grapefruit.
After school I gear up to go to track practice thinking I would take it easy, however my track coach
had a different plan in mind. He announces that we are going to be walking over to Crissy field to run
from the beginning to the end of the trail, and back. Being the naive kid I am, I feel as if I could make
it there and back, not knowing the run would be almost four and a half miles long ! The

American Family Dynamics
American Family Dynamics
The make up and concept of what was once considered a traditional nuclear family is quickly
disappearing (Timmerman, 2013). According to Jojic, Raj, Wilkins, Treadwell, Caussade Rodriguez,
Blum (2012), Traditional family roles have changed, and the conception of what Americans consider a
family has likewise shifted with differing societal views regarding gender, gender roles, race, and
ethnicity (p. 128). To accompany the changes being made to the customary view of family dynamics,
the family environment has become an influential psychological aspect of this change (Kwiatkowski,
2010). As evidence continues to expand regarding all of the changes that have occurred, exact reasons
regarding the changes are as abundant as the explanations described in the data.
As the proof increases concerning the reasons for the downfall and declination of the traditional
family structure within the United States of America; new indications arise as to the reason for the fall
of the nuclear family. Various studies indicate various reasons for the changes. Social, economical, and
moral changes have taken place within the United States of America over the past few decades. These
changes have altered the traditional family concept and have historicalized the nuclear family.

The DSM-5 Lists Ten Personality Disorders
Personality Disorders
The DSM 5 lists ten personality disorders and puts them into three groups. There are many
misunderstandings about these psychological disorders. Here I will seek to clear up some of the
misinformation surrounding these psychological disorders.
The first group contains three disorders, Paranoid personality disorder, Schizoid personality disorder,
and schizotypal disorder. A Paranoid person is characterized by distrust of other people. A Paranoid
person is not only suspicious of others but will be easily discouraged in any interaction with other
people but will still feel a strong sense of personal right. Cluster A comprises paranoid, schizoid, and
schizotypal personality disorders. The classification is Schizoid personality disorder. Schizoid means
simply a natural tendency to direct ones attention inward and pay little attention to the outside world.

The first is antisocial personality disorder. This person is much more likely to be male than female and
is likely to have a criminal record. Antisocial behavior is characterized by a disregard for the feelings
of others. This person moves from one short term relationship to the next. Secondly is borderline
personality disorder. This disorder is more common in women and is often observed after childhood
sexual abuse. People with this disorder may be emotionally unstable, depressed, suicidal, and prone
violent outbursts. The third disorder is the histrionic personality disorder. Those suffering from this
disorder seem to always be playing a role or behaving in an overly dramatic way. This behavior stems
from a lack of self worth and a need to draw attention to themselves. Last in this group is narcissistic
personality disorder in which a person feels an exaggerated sense of self worth or entitlement. This
person feels a need to be liked and admired but

Through the 1940s and 1950s, America was beleaguered with anxieties about the menace of
communism arising in Eastern Europe and China. Profiting out of such worries of the nation, young
Senator Joseph McCarthy made an open charge that hundreds of card carrying communists had

and the Senate reproached him for improper ways, his ardent shakeup heralded as one of the most

The law also needed all foreign residents in the United States over 14 years of age to report an all
inclusive declaration of their private and professional position and a testimony of their political

Communist Party and other left leaning political pressure lobbies in the Unites States. It was decided
that the HUAC had been set up by Congress in 1938 to examine people distrusted of being unpatriotic
and hence more bent to oust the government (McCarthysm, spartacus.schoolnet.co). Modern
researches, of course, show opposing viewpoints about McCarthysm as interpreted during the cold

Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis
From Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay Self Reliance , I drew a genuine sense of self. The essay taught
me the value of the autonomy, its connection to the individual, and its role in society. Emerson s initial
assertion of thinking for oneself and the encouragement of personal experience over knowledge
gained from books both puzzled and amused me. As Emerson continues, his defense for the common
man s value and the evolution of humankind for the better introduced an unfamiliar sense of gratitude
towards my fellow man that I had never experienced before. The final third of this essay inspires me
to be a leader rather than a follower, especially after the denunciation of the one thing that inhibits me
most in this life: the fear of failure. Self Reliance offered me an unexpected, but pleasant encounter
that engaged me in a manner I had not yet undergone. To believe your own thought... is genius which
is amusing because technically we are reading his thoughts (Emerson 1). So, should we accept them as
our own or try to think for ourselves. Either way, Emerson could not have phrased it any better.
Modern society values individuals of the highest caliber in the fields of athletics, art, and intellect, but
also forces is to be passive in our thinking instead of speaking our minds and furthering our own
scholastic experiences as well as the ones of those around us. Moses, Plato, and Milton are revered for
their unconventional thinking because they were brave enough to speak up (Emerson 1). Because of
their courage, they are recognized as remarkably influential leaders in their respective fields, but it is
nothing that the common man cannot do. The people who belittle the personal intuition of their peers
just because it is different than theirs and, instead, choose to rely on others opinions lack the inventive
power necessary for bold individualism. Their absence of conviction results not in different ideas, but
in the acceptance of the same old, boring ideas that their peers may have initially intuited. When
Emerson said that we recognize our own rejected ideas in every work of genius, I could personally
relate to that and it left me thinking that I should speak up more often in Mr. Kelly s class. For in

The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange
A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money s three primary economic
functions.
First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange of
goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system s wastefulness like the dependence on
the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing
power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable,
recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high market
value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to counterfeiting. The most famous
medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had
considerable value which made gold user friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant
value due to its special physical and chemical properties.
The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services market value is simply known as unit of
account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In order for money to function as a unit
of account, it must be divisible into smaller units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a specific
weight, measure or size in order to be verifiable countable.
Lastly, money must be able to be reliably stored, saved and retrieved in order for it to function as a
store of value. Likewise, it must be usable as a medium of

The Crowd A Study Of The Popular Mind Summary
Gustav Le Bon Charles Marie Gustav Le Bon was a sociologist, psychologist, and physicist who is
well known for his writing in each of these fields. Le Bon was a witness to the actions of the French
Commune, in the spring of 1871, what he refers to as the French Convention in his essay The Crowd:
A Study of the Popular Mind. He was greatly influenced in what he saw during this revolutionary
uprising and analyzed the actions of crowds and the way they acted differently than the individuals
within them would (Wikipedia, n.d.). The individuals in the crowd lose their conscience personality
and adopt the thoughts and actions of the psychological crowd. Le Bon points out that the size of a
psychological crowd could be as small as a half a dozen and as large as a nation, and the combined
influence driving them to act does not have to be negative, but could easily have a positive vibe (Le
Bon, 1926). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants

English 1A Sec V18
27 October 2015
Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or
evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States
since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton,
reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the
next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We
Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and
Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food
franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in
quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The
abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence
consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Obesity is a major
health concern in the United States; the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that more
than one third of American adults are obese, and that obesity related conditions such as heart disease,
stroke and type 2 diabetes are the leading cause of preventable death. A study by the Retail Food

Peekay Character Analysis
Peekay s Trait Formation Life does not always take the easy path for all of us. Bryce Courtey writes
about Peekay, who is an English boy, that does not have the easiest life although it may seem like it.
Peekay goes through a lot of heartbreaks, in the form of death, but ends up coming out on top. With
Peekay traveling around and forming new relationships he grasps the traits everyone would love to
have. Peekays independence could not have come from nowhere, with him being alone most of his
life, or being with older people who already could take care of themselfs, he had to take care of
himself. Most of the time when Peekay got picked on he had to stand up for himself because no one
was there to help him out or no one care. I was a fairly quiet sort of a guy and had no trouble getting
on with things (333). In this he is saying how he always could fit in because he had to uses his
camoflage, just like in his prevouis boarding school. As he grows up Peekay learns to live life on his
on time. Peekay had a strict schedule that started at five thirty for boxing, at seven he had breakfast,
talked, and had piano lessons, at eleven he would go to Miss Bornstein s house for a game of chess,
and he would spend the rest of his day with Mrs. Boxall or Grandpa (381 384). Peekay did not have
his mom to take him anywhere due to being poor so, instead he would walk everywhere on his own
and do what he felt needed to be done, but all of this was on his own time. Peekay being very

Health Care Reform Essay
From FDR s New Deal to Lyndon Johnson s Great Society, the United States government has
attempted to centralize extensive social policies. In the early eighties, when recession and inflation
were at a high, Ronald Reagan took office and pronounced that the federal government needed to take
a lesser role in the lives of the American people. As Theda Skocpol comments in her book
Boomerang: Clinton s Health Security Effort and the Turn Against Government in U.S. Politics, the
Reagan administration instilled a dislike of centralized government in the American people. This was
a major reason, according to Skocpol, why the Clinton Administration failed to nationalize Health
Security . It was this fear of centralized government and Clinton s ... Show more content on

The predominantly white bourgeoisie saw such reforms as a financial threat. The civil rights act of
1964 was a distant promise to the underprivileged for a better way of living. The American people
were not willing to give up some of their money so that the more unfortunate could a have a better
way of living. The reaction to The Great Society conveyed the American public s unwillingness to
sacrifice their economic security for the unfortunate. The federal government would not take a bigger
role.
In the eighties Ronald Reagan came into power and instilled an intense fear of big government into the
American people. As Theda Skocpol says ...debt and disillusionment with the federal government
were growing before the 1980s. But the republican ascendancy of that decade exploded the deficit and
deliberately encouraged cynicism about public efforts to address national problems. The Reagan
administration worked to cut taxes and spending on what was called wasteful government programs.
The democrats, who in the Congressional majority, attempted to maintain the programs that already
existed. Yet the republican forces would eventually starve the existing programs in order to cut the
federal budget. Twelve years after Reagan and Bush took office the annual deficit rose from 59 billion
in 1980 to 300 billion in 1992 and the national debt rose from 914 billion

The Policy Of The Federal Government Should Enact Based On...
Weimin Deng (Tuesday Section)
Debate as a Life
Background History of Debate In my sophomore year of highschool, I joined the policy debate club.
Policy debate was an intensive academic activity where teams of two would engage in discussions on
the best government s policy to enact. There would be two teams in each debate round: affirmative or
negative. The affirmative would have to propose a policy that the U.S federal government should
enact based on their constructed advantages for implementation. After that speech, the negative team
would have to make arguments, for examples, kritiks, disadvantages, and counterplans, to refute the
implementation of the plan. Throughout an almost two hour debate round, both teams will try to speak
almost 500 words per minute in order to respond to arguments. As one can imagine, debate is fast
paced activity that boils down to which team can best defend their arguments. Within in this debate
round, there would be a judge to decide the winner. Flow: Difference between Exotelic and Autotelic
The concept of flow in occupational science is described as an autotelic experience where an
individual is fully engaged under a high challenge activity. Often times, one may lose sense of time
due to high level of concentration. My engagement with debate did not begin with an autotelic
experience, but I was introduced by my friends to a debate camp that paid students $400 dollars each
to learn the structure of policy debate. This

Course Taking And Apparatus Set Up
Course taking and apparatus set up will be the first steps in this project. For safety measures, the
apparatus needs to be reinstalled under the fume hood. Basic pretreatment processes will be carried
out in order to prepare the biosorbents for adsorption. Aiming to check the reliability of the system
and find possible pitfalls, some preliminary tests will be run, and the results will be analyzed. Once
the reliability of the apparatus, repeatability of the process, and standard operating procedure are
determined, the next phase of the project will be commenced.
5.2 Phase 2
In this phase, the experiments will be focused on single component and binary systems. Firstly, pure
methane will be fed into the column and the adsorption process will be investigated. Afterwards, the
same experiments at similar conditions will be carried out using pure water vapor. Based on the result
of these experiments, a new set of experiments will be designed and carried out for binary systems
(Methane and water vapor). Equilibrium and kinetics will be studied. Dynamic studies will be
accomplished. Generally, the performance of Flax Shive and Oat Hulls in PSA process will be
determined.
5.3 Phase 3
To further investigate the adsorption process, various isotherms will be fitted on the experimental data.
Equilibrium capacity, uptake of species, diffusion constants, and selectivity will be calculated. Based
on these results, the nature of the adsorption process will be determined. Afterwards, a set

  • 2. Reinstating the Military Draft Essay When you enjoy the freedoms you have living in the United States, you can thank those men and women who serve in the armed forces. But in recent years, our armed forces have seen a decline in enlistments, which has reignited and old debate. Should we reinstate the Military Draft? This one question has sparked a debate nationwide, between friends, family, and even perfect strangers. Reinstating the draft is just one way to ensure people can continue to enjoy those freedoms the armed forces have fought for over the years. With all the controversy surrounding mandatory military service, past and recent incidents have shown a greater need to protect ourselves from those who wish to do us harm. Continued decline in enlistment, and a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is not the truth at all. Mandatory service will provide those who serve many different types of opportunities. Each man and woman, who serves in the military, no matter what branch, has the opportunity to choose their field of work, or receive advanced training in an area they wish to pursue in the civilian world after their enlistment. Furthermore, they may even be able to choose which state they would live in while serving in the armed forces. This does not sound like slavery or even forced slavery, this sounds more like an opportunity to receive training and other necessary qualities companies and organizations are looking for in the civilian workforce. When looking at the whole picture, and deciding the pro s and con s of the military draft I have one final are for you to look at. Currently our armed forces are voluntary and do not accurately represent the American population. With the ideal draft system in place, it will allow for individuals from all aspects of society to represent and provide their service to our country. Along with proper representation, the military cost would be lowered. Although the armed forces would have to pay individuals more and the additional cost of food, equipment, and other essential needs would go up the, the cost of recruiting, advertising and additional benefits to lure persons into the recruiting ... Trust, Bank Of America The History U.S. Trust, Bank of America Private Wealth Management (formerly known as U.S. Trust Corporation) was founded in 1853 and is currently one of the nation s oldest and largest investment and wealth management firms. Prior to becoming a subsidiary of Bank of America, N.A., U.S. Trust was acquired by Charles Schwab, and Co. Before and after the acquisition by Charles Schwab, and Co, U.S. Trust expanded its operations into many new local markets making it one of the largest fiduciary standard investment management firms to have offices in a significant number of local markets. The expansion into these markets was precipitated by the realization that many markets with substantial wealth were being underserved. From Wichita, Kansas, where clients had generational farms and oil and gas wealth, to Phoenix, Arizona, where clients were moving for retirement, U.S. Trust had dedicated offices in many regions in order to have a presence in underserved markets in the wealth management industry. Following the sale of U.S. Trust to Bank of America in November of 2006, for $3.3 billion in cash, the new management team at U.S. Trust began to reevaluate its presence in so many local markets. Over the course of six to seven years, U.S. Trust closed or significantly reduced many of its local offices sending those accounts that had been serviced locally to new Regional service centers located in Dallas, Texas, Providence, Rhode Island, and Atlanta, Georgia. Michael Newdow s Pledge Of Allegiance I pledge allegiance, to the flag, of the United States of America, and to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation, under Congress, the Supreme Court, the Declaration of Independence, our founding fathers, and the President, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Francis Bellamy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance in 1892 (Baer). He did this in the memory of the 400th anniversary of Columbus discovering America ( The Pledge ). In 1954, Congress added the words, under God to the pledge; this was done for the differentiation of the United States from the Soviet Union during the Cold War. Recently, there has been great controversy about the words under God existing in the nations Pledge of Allegiance. Michael Newdow, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Placing God in the pledge was thought of as a term that could be applied to all religions and creeds; thus, the word God would be describing something more than just material existence. Building the basis of the United States was the founding fathers of the nation. They were not all necessarily under a Christian belief; nonetheless, they did wish for the people of the United States to have morals and values (Williams). On the contrary, some people do not feel that the nation should follow what the founding fathers thought and did. Gewertz states, We decide to keep these sayings or traditions in play just because they were the values of our founding fathers. I have to say that not all the values of our founding fathers are values I want to embody. Despite the fact that the founding fathers assumed the existence of an almighty power, they also protected the right of the people to believe or not. Gewertz does not agree with all ideas of the founding fathers, but he also says, the phrase under God is in keeping with the intentions of the Founding Fathers. They anchored their thinking in the idea of a higher law in order to ensure that all power does not reside in the state. Agreeing with Gewertz, Cameron thinks that the founding fathers would not be too happy with the way things are going now. About, seconds later cops arrived and the boy made eye contact with the cops. The boy gave a weird look at the cops and the cops took him down to the ground. Police brutality I think are some of several problems in our society. If you don t know what it is, police brutality is where a police officer uses unnecessary force to a civilian. First off I met Nick Carraway the self proclaimed narrator of the story. Nick is a young man who moved from Minnesota to the city of New York to learn the bond business. I learned that Nick studied at Yale and served time in World War One. Nick describes himself as an honest man, who does not judge onto others however contradicts himself when he says he is highly moral and has a stronger dignity than others. Honestly, in all opinions Daisys character makes me mad. Not only is she a selfish person she is also very materialistic, it is hard to believe that this is Gatsbys love. Lastly, the character I am most intrigued by is the mysterious Jay Gatsby. For some reason, Gatsby has become my favourite character. Maybe it is because of the extravagant parties he throws, or maybe it is because of his mystery, however all I know is I have become entrapped in Gatsby. For the first chapters of the book Gatsby is mentioned by others but is not present. Many rumours and gossip circle about Gatsby, he could even be described as type of celebrity . This evidence from the story is very crucial because it backs up the information given about whether or not the counterclaim was logical. Everything is the same from one house to the next. Not only does Wallace Stevens hint at the Disillusionment of Ten O Clock, he also brings forth feelings of loneliness and despair through his select use of neutral diction. Stevens emphasizes neutral diction using parallelism and repetition, the sameness of the syntax, and an ironic change in wording. Nevertheless, the emotion of the poem is only brought about by Stevens specific use of neutral diction. None are green, or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings, or yellow with blue rings. A common theme runs throughout this poem, which is linked together through the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These feelings are reflected onto the reader, who in turn obtains the same emotions as the author, those of loneliness and despair for the situation. In every poem, the diction an author chooses can drastically change the impression the reader acquires. Disillusionment of Ten O Clock has proven itself to not be an exception. Likewise, the order the words are placed in can also alter a poem. Stevens was aware of this fact and so in his poem, he paid special attention to the syntax of his words. More specifically, the author used the sameness of the syntax to help get his point across to the reader. The majority of the sentences and lines in this poem are similarly structured. ...Or purple with green rings, or green with yellow rings... In doing this, Stevens was able to show the emotions of loneliness and despair that he felt at this hour. Syntax and parallelism also played a large part in the author s emphasis of his point. By piecing both of these things together, Stevens was able to provide the reader with an ironic change in wording for the last four lines of the poem. It is perhaps, these last four lines that are most important in the entire poem. Not only do they offer the reader juxtaposition between characters, but they also illustrate the author s loneliness and despair. People are not going to dream of baboons and periwinkles. The reason why one variable effects another does not always occur in isolation, there are both mediating and moderating variables that may influence a causal relationship. Mediating Variables They are a necessary third variable between two items. That is, without mediating variable, b , variable a will not produce a specific effect on variable, c. Many including myself, think that voters should present a form of identification when voting no matter what. If people were not required to have a form of identification when voting than anyone, citizen or not would be able to vote. Also not having and ID. when voting could become advantageous for either Republicans or Democrats. We show some form of identification for smaller reasons, I don t see the positive outcomes, if any of not showing an ID. when voting. For as long as I can remember Identifications have been used to show, and verify one s identity, whether it is to buy a small box of cigarettes or get into a place, we must show and prove who are. There is really no excuse to not have an identification for something more important like voting. Voters should be required to show IDs when voting in person, so that no one can vote twice. It is pretty self explanatory. Fraud within the elections is all too common, and having to show an Identification is a necessary risk we have to take to ensure that the person who wins, is the person everyone actually voted for. Travelling to destinations quicker, curing new diseases, or figuring out how to cease a wide famine are examples of how technology has made advances over time. The solutions that scientists create spark a tool that others cannot live without. But what if these technologies bring out negative effects rather than their desired purpose? Sometimes, innovators create new inventions that bring unintended consequences. It could range from less communication face to face, side effects from new medicines, or pollute the earth s atmosphere. As a result of technology bringing out positive and negative effects, many people have chosen to join a side on the issue. They are either called a techno optimist or a techno pessimist. Both of these groups believe differently in the way technology has brought innovations. For example, a techno optimist considers technology has made life better and assumes further scientific discoveries in the future will no doubt improve our lives even further. Techno pessimists however, ponder how technology has impacted human society. Keep in mind, though, people don t always lean towards one side all the time and opinions change one way or another. There are wider factors in public history at work than the mere difficulty of obtaining sources. Some of the major barriers to Turing s renaissance during the second wave of heroism can be reckoned from historiography and context. Indeed these major reasons for obscurity are sometimes a point of reference for commentators highlighting present day Britain s moral superiority over the past in recognising his heroic greatness, as Peter Tatchell has argued. 1 The changing fortunes of LGBT minorities in Britain are complex beyond full summary here. However, certain developments have played a significant part in suppressing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 7 The twentieth century British public demonstrated a fundamental dislike of homosexuality when polled until relatively late. 8 This attitude has undergone a dramatic reversal over the last fifteen years, marked by David Cameron s apology for the act in 201X. 9 10 It is also worth noting that structural initiatives in historiography did not exist as mainstays of public history until recently. For example, LGBT History Month only emerged in 1994, mostly as the result of American activism in academia. Amidst a more general liberal malaise over historical and current homophobia, it can be seen that the current promotion of Turing is, in part, a politicised attempt to atone for what is now mostly seen as an embarrassing, cruel mistake. Divorced from disapproval of his personal life, security concerns have been an extremely negative factor in blocking promotion of Turing. This can be demonstrated through both the evidence above and the comparable fortunes of his collages. It took until 19XX for Dilly Knox to receive his first biographical volume, in which X marketed him as yet another forgotten hero .11 Similarly, the first documentary to argue that Gordon Welchman was unfairly overlooked as a heroic mathematician due to the NSA and Margaret Thatcher only aired in September 2015. ... • 35. Self Reliance By Ralph Waldo Emerson Analysis From Ralph Waldo Emerson s essay Self Reliance , I drew a genuine sense of self. The essay taught me the value of the autonomy, its connection to the individual, and its role in society. Emerson s initial assertion of thinking for oneself and the encouragement of personal experience over knowledge gained from books both puzzled and amused me. As Emerson continues, his defense for the common man s value and the evolution of humankind for the better introduced an unfamiliar sense of gratitude towards my fellow man that I had never experienced before. The final third of this essay inspires me to be a leader rather than a follower, especially after the denunciation of the one thing that inhibits me most in this life: the fear of failure. Self Reliance offered me an unexpected, but pleasant encounter that engaged me in a manner I had not yet undergone. To believe your own thought... is genius which is amusing because technically we are reading his thoughts (Emerson 1). So, should we accept them as our own or try to think for ourselves. Either way, Emerson could not have phrased it any better. Modern society values individuals of the highest caliber in the fields of athletics, art, and intellect, but also forces is to be passive in our thinking instead of speaking our minds and furthering our own scholastic experiences as well as the ones of those around us. Moses, Plato, and Milton are revered for their unconventional thinking because they were brave enough to speak up (Emerson 1). Because of their courage, they are recognized as remarkably influential leaders in their respective fields, but it is nothing that the common man cannot do. The people who belittle the personal intuition of their peers just because it is different than theirs and, instead, choose to rely on others opinions lack the inventive power necessary for bold individualism. Their absence of conviction results not in different ideas, but in the acceptance of the same old, boring ideas that their peers may have initially intuited. When Emerson said that we recognize our own rejected ideas in every work of genius, I could personally relate to that and it left me thinking that I should speak up more often in Mr. Kelly s class. • 36. The Value Of A Medium Of Exchange A medium of exchange, a unit of account and a store of value are money s three primary economic functions. First and foremost, money acts as a medium of exchange when it is used to negotiate the exchange of goods and services. It also keeps away from the barter system s wastefulness like the dependence on the occurrence of a coincidence of wants. A medium of exchange must possess a stable purchasing power in order for it to be accepted worldwide. Hence, it must be divisible, transportable, recognizable, have constant utility, valuation of common assets, low cost of preservation, high market value in relation to volume and weight and most of all, resistance to counterfeiting. The most famous medium of exchange back then was gold since it was dormant. Even small amounts of gold had considerable value which made gold user friendly. Men cherished gold because it also had a constant value due to its special physical and chemical properties. The standard numerical unit of measuring goods and services market value is simply known as unit of account. It is mandatory for forming commercial agreements. In order for money to function as a unit of account, it must be divisible into smaller units without a loss of value, fungible, and have a specific weight, measure or size in order to be verifiable countable. The Plague Of Fast Food Restaurants Dru Olson Marti English 1A Sec V18 27 October 2015 Plague to Society Plague; as defined by dictionary.com is a widespread affliction, calamity, disease or evil. Fast food has become this plague for America, outgrowing and overrunning the United States since the opening of Ray Kroc s first McDonalds restaurant in 1955. According to Leslie Patton, reporter for Bloomberg Business, by 1983 6,000 McDonalds franchises covered the U.S. and for the next two decades the restaurant has opened about 360 outlets in the U.S. every year. (Patton, Have We Reached Peak Burger? ) This fast and steady growth has encouraged rivals like Burger King and Wendy s to do the same; oversaturating communities with corporate giants. The takeover of fast food franchises has had a direct relation to our health epidemic among American citizens, the decline in quality of life and the abuse of employees, and even livestock associated with such franchises. The abundance of fast food restaurants in communities, especially those of lower income, influence consumer dietary choices and intensifies obesity among adolescents and adults. Peekay goes through a lot of heartbreaks, in the form of death, but ends up coming out on top. Most of the time when Peekay got picked on he had to stand up for himself because no one was there to help him out or no one care. I was a fairly quiet sort of a guy and had no trouble getting on with things (333). • 41. Health Care Reform Essay From FDR s New Deal to Lyndon Johnson s Great Society, the United States government has attempted to centralize extensive social policies. In the early eighties, when recession and inflation were at a high, Ronald Reagan took office and pronounced that the federal government needed to take a lesser role in the lives of the American people. As Theda Skocpol comments in her book Boomerang: Clinton s Health Security Effort and the Turn Against Government in U.S. Politics, the Reagan administration instilled a dislike of centralized government in the American people. This was a major reason, according to Skocpol, why the Clinton Administration failed to nationalize Health Security . It was this fear of centralized government and Clinton s ... The civil rights act of 1964 was a distant promise to the underprivileged for a better way of living. The American people were not willing to give up some of their money so that the more unfortunate could a have a better way of living. The reaction to The Great Society conveyed the American public s unwillingness to sacrifice their economic security for the unfortunate. The federal government would not take a bigger role. In the eighties Ronald Reagan came into power and instilled an intense fear of big government into the American people. As Theda Skocpol says ...debt and disillusionment with the federal government were growing before the 1980s. But the republican ascendancy of that decade exploded the deficit and deliberately encouraged cynicism about public efforts to address national problems. The Reagan administration worked to cut taxes and spending on what was called wasteful government programs. The democrats, who in the Congressional majority, attempted to maintain the programs that already existed. Yet the republican forces would eventually starve the existing programs in order to cut the federal budget. Twelve years after Reagan and Bush took office the annual deficit rose from 59 billion in 1980 to 300 billion in 1992 and the national debt rose from 914 billion ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. The Policy Of The Federal Government Should Enact Based On... Weimin Deng (Tuesday Section) Debate as a Life Background History of Debate In my sophomore year of highschool, I joined the policy debate club. Policy debate was an intensive academic activity where teams of two would engage in discussions on the best government s policy to enact. There would be two teams in each debate round: affirmative or negative. The affirmative would have to propose a policy that the U.S federal government should enact based on their constructed advantages for implementation. After that speech, the negative team would have to make arguments, for examples, kritiks, disadvantages, and counterplans, to refute the implementation of the plan. Throughout an almost two hour debate round, both teams will try to speak almost 500 words per minute in order to respond to arguments. As one can imagine, debate is fast paced activity that boils down to which team can best defend their arguments. Within in this debate round, there would be a judge to decide the winner. Flow: Difference between Exotelic and Autotelic The concept of flow in occupational science is described as an autotelic experience where an individual is fully engaged under a high challenge activity. Often times, one may lose sense of time due to high level of concentration. My engagement with debate did not begin with an autotelic experience, but I was introduced by my friends to a debate camp that paid students $400 dollars each to learn the structure of policy debate. • 47. Course Taking And Apparatus Set Up Course taking and apparatus set up will be the first steps in this project. For safety measures, the apparatus needs to be reinstalled under the fume hood. Basic pretreatment processes will be carried out in order to prepare the biosorbents for adsorption. Aiming to check the reliability of the system and find possible pitfalls, some preliminary tests will be run, and the results will be analyzed. Once the reliability of the apparatus, repeatability of the process, and standard operating procedure are determined, the next phase of the project will be commenced. 5.2 Phase 2 In this phase, the experiments will be focused on single component and binary systems. Firstly, pure methane will be fed into the column and the adsorption process will be investigated. Afterwards, the same experiments at similar conditions will be carried out using pure water vapor. Based on the result of these experiments, a new set of experiments will be designed and carried out for binary systems (Methane and water vapor). Equilibrium and kinetics will be studied. Dynamic studies will be accomplished. Generally, the performance of Flax Shive and Oat Hulls in PSA process will be determined. 5.3 Phase 3 To further investigate the adsorption process, various isotherms will be fitted on the experimental data. Equilibrium capacity, uptake of species, diffusion constants, and selectivity will be calculated. Based on these results, the nature of the adsorption process will be determined. Afterwards, a set ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
