Broadly, a citation is a reference to a published or unpublished source (not always the original source). More precisely, a citation is an abbreviated alphanumeric expression embedded in the body of an intellectual work that denotes an entry in the bibliographic references section of the work for the purpose of acknowledging the relevance of the works of others to the topic of discussion at the spot where the citation appears.
Generally the combination of both the in-body citation and the bibliographic entry constitutes what is commonly thought of as a citation (whereas bibliographic entries by themselves are not).
References to single, machine-readable assertions in electronic scientific articles are known as nano-publications, a form of micro-attribution. Citation has several important purposes: to uphold intellectual honesty (or avoiding plagiarism), to attribute prior or unoriginal work and ideas to the correct sources, to allow the reader to determine independently whether the referenced material supports the author's argument in the claimed way, and to help the reader gauge the strength and validity of the material the author has used.

Running head: RULES FOR CREATING A RESEARCH 2
Rules for Creating a Research Paper Using Correct 6
th
Edition APA Formatting
An APA formatted paper is created using one-inch margins at the top, bottom, left, and
right sides. APA papers are always double spaced. Paragraphs are indented ½ inch. Just type the
TAB key once. The body of your paper consists of the information you researched on your
paper’s topic in order to support your own position or thesis.
If the information in your paper is not your own original thought, you need to include an
in-text citation and a references page to give credit to the original author of the idea. Your paper
should include direct quotes and paraphrasing. You will notice in this paper, there are several
different types of in-text citations, and they have been created using correct APA formatting for
in-text citations.
Types of In-Text Citations
In-text citations are used when you paraphrase, summarize, or otherwise refer to
information you’ve learned during your research. The first two in-text citations in this paper are
examples of how to set up in-text citations when you’re paraphrasing, summarizing, or referring
to the information from a source rather than copying text word for word. They demonstrate how
to give credit to the author. For the first type of citation, place the author’s last name and the year
of publication at the end of the sentence in parenthesis (Reed, 2005). Notice the comma and
space after the author’s name and notice the period for the sentence is after the final parentheses.
Another variation is when you use the author’s name at the beginning of the sentence. In the
following sentence, you will notice that Mary Nelson’s last name only appears at the beginning
of the sentence; therefore, the in-text citation immediately follows her name. According to
Nelson (2005), the use of APA formatting for in-text citations is very easy to complete.
The paper begins with the full title of the paper.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Referencing Guide - MLA, APA, Harvard and Other Styles
1.
2. Referencing Guide - MLA, APA, Harvard
and Other Styles
Prior to writing an academic work, you need to make sure which is the
official referencing style of the school you’re attending. If you don’t know, you
can simply ask one of your professors, then use a reference generator
accomplish the job in the most quick and efficient manner possible. But first,
it’s important to get familiar with the most commonly used styles so you’ll be
able to differentiate between them with relative ease.
MLA format bibliography generator and other styles overlook
1. The MLA referencing style
Examining the examples any MLA format works cited page generator
outputs, you’ll be able to observe this is mainly is a system of brackets. At the
end of your essay is where full length citations can be found, and through the
use of MLA format, you’re simply pointing that out.
3. So what’s in the brackets? As a typical MLA format bibliography
generator will show you, the brackets only contain the author’s surname and the
page number you’re trying to point the reader to.
Example:
Just a random statement (Doe, 14).
In case you’re mentioning two or more essays by the same author, specify
which one you’re referring to in order to avoid confusion.
Example:
Just a random statement (Doe, Revelations, 14).
Of course, you can also use a MLA format cite generator to do the work
for you. By using a reference generator MLA, you just input the variables, and
the script will do the rest for you automatically.
2. The APA referencing style
As observed in the result of an APA style bibliography maker, this system
also includes brackets. Basically, it includes the author’s surname, the date of
the publication and the exact number you are referring to.
Example:
Just a random statement (Doe, 2006, p. 14).
4. It’s important to note that the brackets should always be placed at the end
of a statement. As always, you can do this manually or use a APA style
reference generator and not worry about the rest.
3. The Harvard referencing style
A harvard citing generator reveals that – surprise, surprise – this is
another bracket-based referencing system. This one, however, only lists the
author’s surname and the publication date.
At the end of the document, simply include the lists of all authors by their
surnames so the reader can quickly find the original source if need be. These are
formatted the same way you would use an APA system.
As always, you can use a harvard style reference generator if you don’t
quite feel like doing this yourself.
4. The MHRA referencing style
Surprisingly, this referencing style does not use brackets. Instead, floating
numbers are used and each subsequent number is higher than the previous one.
Then, either in the current page’s footer or at the end of the document, simply
list the documents in the same order you referenced them.
Conclusion
That’s pretty much it! You might be thinking that having to memorize all
this is a bit tedious, and it’s true, at least in the beginning when you’re still
getting used to it. However, some people prefer using a generator, since it
makes things so much easier and allows you to do the job faster. In the end, it’s
up to you.

each referencing style here:
