The Whale Rider
Listen...once there were many of our protectors, now there are few.Listen to how empty our sea has become Koro Apirana(Pg. 50). This comes from not real life, but in a novel/book called The Whale Rider by Witi Ihimaera. The story follows a young girl named Kahu Apirana and how she battles her tribe s cultural beliefs in order to prove to her father she is worthy to be chief because he strongly accepts only men can be a chieftain, Koro originally desired his son, Porourangi s newborn baby to be next in line for chief but, unfortunately, he, as well as his wife, died shortly after the birth, leaving only Kahu the second child left. This shows that with strength, determination and willpower you can achieve what you originally thought was impossible. It s...show more content...Another example that supports this is from the very beginning since Kahu was born Koro denied every time someone would say Kahu would make a great chief including his own wife, he even ignores any time Kahu tries to impress him with her knowledge of the ancient culture, like the time a boy who was training with others in the new program, was kicked out because Koro found Kahu trying to imitate what she saw the boys doing in their fight training and one even tried to show her the proper techniques to do so, soon after she easily beat him in a fight with little effort, but Koro found them and kicked him out for simply being beaten by a girl in combat and punished Kahu as well by making her go home, back to Nanny Flowers(Koro s wife/her mother) and into her room for the rest of the day. He even goes so far to say... No good.I won t have anything to do with her. That Porourangi(Kahu s father)better have a s

Essay On Creation Myths
Creation Myths My mythology class has been reading and learning about most of the creation myths. A creation myth is how the earth began and how humans first came to inhabit it. Also, we have reviewed the motifs of the myths. A motif is like a pattern of the similar situations happening throughout the myths. The three motifs I thought that were the most common were that most had a single creator, people were created from organic material, and the battles that went on between most of the gods.
Most myths had a single creator In my opinion I think that if there were more than two creators then that would be too much power. A creator is the one that puts the earth together and forms the first humans on earth. Quite a few creation myth stories had only one god that created everything. For example, the Babylonian had one creator which was Marduk, the Hindu had one creator which was Prajapati, the Inuit had a single creator which was Raven, the Chinese said there was only one and his name was Pan...show more content...Some of the battles were bigger than others but I thought that the battles were important to use as a motif. In the Hindu creation there was a disagreement of the choices Prajapati was making with his daughter. The other gods got very angry with Prajapati. For revenge the gods created a monster named Rudra, and it haunted Prajapati. Once the monstrous creature found him, he shot him with an arrow and killed him. In the Norse creation Odin was the god that created the humans, but the gods did not accept how he was making them. Ymir s sisters especially did not agree with Odin s idea so they planned to get revenge on Odin. The sisters gathered at the foo

How Did Thomas Sowell Influence Politics
Living in this day and age, politics surrounds the world we know of. Politics represents the values and beliefs a person holds, dictating every move a person takes. Ingrained into everyday life, it s no surprise there are millions of writings dedicated to circulate political interests. These columns are used to express opinions and ideas without the constraints of academic writing; therefore, appealing to those living average lives, those who make up the majority of society, and those who can largely influence the political outcome. Elie Wiesel Night
Night is an autobiographical literature by Elie Wiesel during World War II that explains the tragic events the author went through during that period. In Sighet, Transylvania, everything began in 1941; when Elie Wiesel was just thirteen years old. Elie Wiesel was a religious and devout Jew; he was passionate about studying the Talmud and Kabbalah. Elie was a brother to three sisters and the only son of a Romanian shopkeeper. He found himself a Kabbalah teacher named Moishe the Beadle who was deported on the first transport, but he eventually sneaked out to warn the Jews in Sighet about their fate; no one believed him.

As he was trying to survive in the concentration camps; his greatest fear was not to lose his father through his harsh times and challenges while in the camp.
One day, the inmates were told to come to the meeting place, to witness a child being hung by the SS officers. On that day, Elie lost all of the faith he had in God and said God died with the child who got hung by the cruel SS officers.
Soon, the Jewish holidays came and it was different from how they celebrated the past years. Elie has turned away from God and did not take part in the worship. Yet another selection passed by, but this time his father was proven as a weak person, but a second selection took place and luckily Elie s father passed the selection.

Gay Marriages Essay
Gay Marriages
Growing up in a heterosexual neighborhood, gay couples were not something that you came across every day as you do in today s time. At the age of 22, Dawn was introduced to her first gay couple, Mike and Thomas. They were friends of her husband. She had never known a gay couple before or even a gay person. It was extremely strange and uncomfortable for Dawn to be in the presence of two gay men. It was nothing out of the ordinary at first. To Dawn, it was just like two men living together as roommates until they kissed. Dawn felt like she was invading on their privacy as she sat and watched them kiss. She quickly turned her head so she would not be intruding. Now, Dawn is extremely close to Mike and Thomas. Common law marriages are not honored to homosexuals who fall under the same situation. The first efforts to secure state recognition of homosexual relationships in the United States occurred in the 1970s (D Emilio). Ministers of the Metropolitan Community Church, organized in 1968, had begun performing wedding for their members. The Metropolitan Community Church is a church for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer spiritual community grounded in the Christian tradition, affirming and exploring many paths to God. It is the first gay church in the United States that will thrive and found branches in many other U.S. cities (Kranz and Cusick). Alfred Lord Tennyson Curiosity Analysis
Living Life to the Fullest Life without adventure and risks, is not a life worth living. Ulysses by Alfred Lord Tennyson and Curiosity by Alastair Reid both share the common theme that life must be lived to the fullest. The subjects of both poems are different despite having the same theme. Both poems present the theme in very different ways. Ulysses uses metaphors, similes, and a story like structure to get the theme across. Curiosity on the other hand presents the theme by using contrast, symbolism, tone and repetition. Reid and Tennyson uniquely get the idea of living life to the fullest across to the reader. The use of a story like structure also helps convey the theme. By setting it up as the story of Ulysses and his life, the idea that life has to be adventurous is clearly conveyed. Within the poem Ulysses reflects on his past, shares his concerns about his son Telemachus, and addresses the mariners he has traveled with. The words Ulysses uses when speaking to the mariners holds adventures and voyages on a pedestal, stating that he wishes he could travel forever. To sail beyond the sunset, and the baths of all western stars, until I die, (Tennyson) Ulysses proclaims. Lord Of The Flies Essay Introduction
Lord of the Flies starts out with a plane crashing on an island. The pilot died so the only people that survive this crash were a group of boys. In an attempt to bring together everyone on the island Ralph, one of the main characters, used a shell like object to get everyone to the beach. After many boys reached the beach Ralph started a meeting. The boys discussed what they should do to stay alive and get rescued. They voted that Ralph should be their leader. Another main character is Jack, he was angered when they voted Ralph to be leader because he thought he could do it better. Ralph s first action as chief was to have everyone help make a large fire to create smoke for nearby ships to see. The boys agreed that this fire should stay going all the time, so that if a ship came by they could be rescued. Jack was assigned the task of hunting the pigs for food. He took the group of boys he came with and became the hunters. After awhile the only thing Jack could think about was hunting. This angered Ralph...show more content...Ralph is the natural leader of the group. He is laid back but everyone knows that he is in charge. All he talks about is hunting and wanting to kill. This turns him into a whole new person. Since Jack is a leader, many of the boys follow his lead by also turning into this crazy being. Jack has a lot of effect on the others and it is mostly a negative effect. Simon is more of a laid back main character. He discovers the beast and tri

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

Most universities in the world use a style manual to establish the rules that should be applied for writing documents or publishing research studies on
different disciplines. The purpose of these style manuals is to ensure consistency standardizing the writing style, and additionally, to make easier the
task of locating references, citations, and bibliographies, for the reader. Some of the most used style manuals for academic papers are MLA, Chicago,
Harvard, Turabian and APA. APA style is a widely used standard, developed by social and behavioral scientist from American Psychologist Association

A cover page must use at the beginning. Include a page header at the top of every page, containing the running head and the page number. The running
head is an abbreviated title in all uppercase letters, flush with the left margin. Page numbering begins with the title page flush with the right margin.
The abbreviated title appears with the label Running head only on the title page and without this label on subsequent pages. After the cover page we
should include an Abstract page, which is a brief summary of your paper, will usually refer to the purpose, the methodology, and the highlights of the
research. Other sections of the papers structure are the Introduction, Method, Results, Discussion, References and Appendices. Reference list must
begin on a new page, with the word References centered at the top. All entries in your reference list are double–spaced with hanging indentation.
APA style (2010) uses the author–date system for citing references in the text of your paper. Each reference cited in the text will appear alphabetically
in your reference list. In addition to the author and the date, direct quotations must also include the page number. You need to cite both names every
time you refer to a work by two authors. If the reference has three, four, or five authors, you must cite all authors the first time they are referred to.

When you write an essay, you have to use a format. Formats help you have a better looking paper. Some of these formats are called, APA, MLA,
Chicago, Turabian, and AMA. But the ones I will focus on is APA and MLA. APA and MLA are close and different in a few ways. APA, American
Psychological Association, style is used when you write a psychology, education, and other social sciencepaper. APA style is a format for academic
documents such as journal articles and books. APA style is most commonly used to site sources within the social sciences. This style is a formal way of
writing an official document. The essay should be typed, double–spaced on standard–sized paper (8.5"x 11") with 1" margins on all sides. The essay
should use a clear font that is readable. APA recommends using 12 PT and Times New Roman font. The essay also includes a page header at the top
of every page. To create a page header, insert page numbers flush right, then type "title of your page" in the header flush left using all capital letters.

You would use this style for regular writing. Writing for an english, theatre, art, etc., is some examples of when you would use MLA. If you are to
write a paper using MLA you would type your paper on a computer, 8.5 x 11–inch paper. Double–space the text of your paper, and use a legible font .
The font size will be 12. Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks. Set the margins of your document to one inch on all sides.
Indent the first line of paragraphs one half–inch from the left margin. Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right–hand

APA recommends four major sections of a paper: title page, abstract, body and reference page. A properly formatted abstract, which is a precise

APA (American Psychological Association) style is primarily used in the social science disciplines. It is formatted like MLA, and shows many
similarities, but is unique in several key points.
APA uses parenthetical (or in–text) citations within sentences, but rather than indicating the author's name and page number, APA includes author's
name and date of publication. The page number, represented with a p. or a pp., is only added to the citation when using a direct quote (not a summary
or paraphrase). If the author's name is mentioned in the sentence, then place the date of publication in parentheses directly after the name. If the name is

All of the interviewees have been called 'exceptions to the norm' (Strong & Porter, 1998, p. 565).
Note the first example paraphrases an author that is named in the sentence, the second example paraphrases authors that are not named in the sentence,
and the third example provides a direct quote (thus the inclusion of the page numbers) but also does not identify the authors within the sentence. If the
authors were identified within the sentence in the third example, the authors' names would be followed by the year of publication and only the page
numbers would be in the parentheses at the end of the quote.
Finally, the bibliographic page in APA style differs from MLA, what APA calls the Reference page. You will notice a few immediate differences from
the MLA Works Cited format. With APA you include the initial of the author's first name rather than the complete name, the publication date

is flush left while subsequent lines in the same entry are indented in (approximately 5 spaces or one tab). For journals and magazines, publication title

10. APA Writing Style Essay
American Psychological Association (APA) writing style exists for a reason and this reason is because writers' must give "credibility where
credibility is due"(Walden Writing Center, 2015) . During my BSW program I learned this and also, the importance of integrity in college level
writing. In my opinion, two aspects of APA that I think will not challenge me are direct quotations and listing references. I have to admit I prefer to
quote intellecutual matter directly rather than, use paraphazing. I believe this is approriate to do if the quote you utilize is short and all of your
agrguments regarding, the content of the quote, are your own ideas. Another thing that will come easily to me is listing my references. This comes
easily to me because during my undergraduate education, I excelled in this area. The reason for this is because everytime I wrote a reference page I
always refered to my courses APA manual.
Eventhough I have had a through exposure to APA, it has been a year since I have utilized thiswriting style. Also, my current position does not require
the use of APA. Therefore, a saying comes to mind "if you don't use it you lose it". Currently, this is my situation. As a result, Walden University's

Informed consent most closely interrelates to the guideline of deception. Deception is possibly the most controversial and also the most important
aspects of research in psychology. Deception occurs when the experimenter withholds information about the study or the true aim of the study. In
psychological research, it is important to use the least amount of deception possible. In all cases the researcher must take careful consideration to the
benefits of any deception. If deception is carried out the participant is likely to experience: a feeling of being uncomfortable, negative feelings
towards the research, and suspicion of the research. However, sometimes deception is necessary for the researcher because if the participants
understand the aim of the study they could act differently according to the aim of the study. For instance, in memory research the researcher can
inform the aim of the study because the participants do not know what they will be asked to remember. The most adept method of compensating for
any mandatory deception is in the debriefing. After the experiment is over, researchers are required to debrief the participants. The ultimate reason for
debriefing is to allow the participants to leave the experiment without any stress. This also gives the experimenter a chance to go over any and all of
the points where deception might have been used and to

A person may be suffering from depressive symptoms and use narcotics with the hope of acquiring some kind of relief. Depressive symptoms can

This can make it difficult to tell precisely which drug is affecting an individual's emotions. Doctors do, however, have a pretty good idea of what each
narcotic can do due to research in individuals that have taken one drug at a time.
THE EFFECTS OF DRUGS AND DEPRESSION4 Abstract
In order to be able to treat a person with depression effectively, doctors have to sort out what kind of role the narcotics may play in the depression. If
the feelings of depression is simply a part of a withdrawal due to a narcotic and are only something temporary, it is very unlikely that a antidepressant
will be of any benefit. Antidepressants take a bare minimum of two to three weeks to begin working. The most effective treatment in such a case
would be to try and help the person at hand to get their drug use under control or stop entirely. Both taking drugs and the withdrawal process may
produce depressive symptoms themselves, makingit very difficult to know what it is that's exactly going on, if it even seems that the depression led to
taking drugs in the first place. As a result, It's extremely vital to the treatment of the individual that the problem with narcotics is sorted out so that is
will be possible to further judge whether antidepressants or other treatments used for depression will be needed. This, of course, does not mean it's

Contextualising APA There are essentially two approaches to documentation: numbered, in which the citation appears in a footnote or endnote, and
parenthetical, in which it appears in–text. Numbered Documentation Numbered documentation had already been superseded by parenthetical

equal space to parenthetical documentation . This is the main reason why the numbered approach was not considered further. Parenthetical

18. Advantages And Disadvantages Of APA Writing Style
1. I think that having formatting standards such as APA is very necessary and useful for a clear communication. When we use an editorial style, we
remove the distraction of puzzling over the correct punctuation for a reference or the proper form for numbers in text. An author writing for a
publication must follow the rules established by the publisher to avoid inconsistencies among journal articles or book chapters. For example, without
rules of style, three different manuscripts might use sub–categories, subcategories, and Subcategories in one issue of a journal or book. Although the
meaning of the word is the same (in this case, subcategories is APA Style), such variations in style may distract or confuse the reader. To sum up the
need for a consistent style becomes more apparent when complex material is presented, such as tables or statistics.
2. There are advantages and disadvantages in using an APA style.
Let's start with benefits: One major advantage of the APA writing style is that it encourages direct exposition of your research and emphasizes your
original ideas being reported. This precision is complemented by a straightforward manuscript structure that includes a title page, abstract, body,
reference list and, if applicable, appendices. Also, APA citations include a brief reference in the body of your text paired with a fullcitation in your
reference list. Citations within the text should list last name of the author and that author's publication date, followed by a page number if the citation
involves a direct quotation. In addition, the APA writing and citation style ensures you are giving adequate credit to others for prior work and allows
the reader to easily track your references. What is more adopting the APA writing style guarantees that both the structure of your paper and the format
of your citations are consistent throughout. The clarity of your writing along with a precise citation format works to establish your credibility, and it
reflects the extent of your research.
On the other side the drawbacks in using such a style are: Firstly, the APA manual has a rule for just about every aspect of writing. You will find
instructions for the technical aspects of constructing a paper,
