MLA (Modern Language Association) Style formatting is often used in various humanities disciplines.
In addition to the handbook, MLA also offers The MLA Style Center, a website that provides additional instruction and resources for writing and formatting academic papers. https://style.mla.org/
What is MLA?
The MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers, 8th ed. supersedes both the 7th edition handbook and the MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing, 3rd ed. The style of documentation outlined in the 8th edition serves the needs of students who are writing research papers, as well as scholars who publish professionally. This presentation will mostly focus on MLA formatting and style concerns that affect writing research papers.
MLA style is often used in the following disciplines: humanities, languages, literature, linguistics, philosophy, communication, religion, and others.
MLA format provides writers with a uniform format for document layout and documenting sources. Proper MLA style shows that writers are conscientious of the standards of writing in their respective disciplines. Properly documenting sources also ensures that an author is not plagiarizing.

MLA regulates:
document formatin-text citationsworks-cited list
What does MLA regulate?
This slide presents three basic areas regulated by MLA students need to be aware of—document format, in-text citations, and works cited. The following slides provide detailed explanations regarding each area.
*
The 8th edition handbook introduces a new way to cite sources. Instead of a long list of rules, MLA guidelines are now based on a set of principles that may be used to cite any type of source.
The three guiding principles:
Cite simple traits shared by most works.Remember that there is more than one way to cite the same source.Make your documentation useful to readers.
MLA Update 2016
Principle 1: In previous versions of the MLA Handbook, an entry in the works-cited list was based on the source’s publication format (book, periodical, Web article, etc.). The issue with that system is that a work in a new type of medium could not be properly ci.

Assignment Instructions
Respond to the following question:
As part of the financial planning process, a common practice in the corporate finance world is restructuring through the process of mergers and acquisitions (M&A). It seems that on a regular basis, investment bankers arrange M&A transactions, forming one company from separate companies. What are the advantages and the disadvantages of a merger? In your response, provide an example of either - a merger that was successful, or one that was unsuccessful.
· Write a paper of 600-750 content words (title page, abstract and reference page not included), double-spaced format (Times New Roman 12-point font), 1 inch page margins Top, Bottom, Left Side and Right Side, with reasonable accommodation being made for special situations and online submission variances.
· Prepare this assignment according to the APA guidelines, including a title page, an introduction, and a conclusion. An abstract is not required. Cite in text and include a References section. A template is included in the assignment.
· In your report, make certain that you include at least three credible outside references from search engines or scholarly sources from the APUS Online Library.
· Note that your attached paper will automatically be submitted to Turnitin, and an Originality Report should be sent back to the classroom within around 15 minutes. The Originality report does not actually recommend changes. It does point out where you may need to add a citation or quotation marks (if not already cited). Once you use it a few times, you will appreciate this tool, as it will assist you in improving quality and content, as well as avoid plagiarism. Your goal is to keep direct quotations to a minimum and to make sure that you do not just cut and paste material. Ensure that all your references are cited. A report with a similarity index less than 20% is acceptable for graduate level work.
Your paper will be evaluated according to the Writing Assignment Grading Rubric shown below. To maximize your grade, be sure to use the proper organization (intro, body, conclusion) and follow APA style. Your paper should have a title page and reference page, but you do not need an abstract for this assignment. See the PowerPoint presentation attached for APA assistance.

Differences between MLA and APA
APA and MLA are formatting and writing styles that are used in reports, academic
essays and papers. APA is used in social sciences while MLA is used in humanities and
liberal arts. Even though, they have similarities, there are also differences between MLA
and APA.
Paper Formatting: Differences Between APA and MLA Format
Both APA and MLA adhere to double spaces pages with a font size of 12 having one-inch
margin in all sides. The APA formatted paper consists of 4 parts: the title page, abstract,
body and references. The abstract is about 150 to 250 words. It also gives a summary of
key ideas in paper, which include research topic, research questions, analysis, methods
and conclusion. On the other hand, the MLA formatted paper does not have separate
title page or abstract. It only has 2 major parts: the body and the works cited page. There
you have the differences between APA and MLA format that you should know.
Title Page: APA Publication Manual 7th Edition
4. APA formatted papers are using page headers at top of each page, which include title
page. It includes title, author’s name as well as institutional affiliation. The MLA
formatted paper includes title on first page that separates the title from essay.
In-Text Citations: APA vs. MLA Differences
APA and MLA have different methods for in-text citations. The APA paper includes last
name of the author, year of publication using parenthesis. The MLA paper includes the
last name of the author and the page number with parenthesis.
There you have the APA vs. MLA differences. The writing style have their own
similarities as well as differences that you should know so that you will not make
mistakes in writing whatever writing style you are required to use.
Finally, the time you know APA publication manual 7th edition guide, you need to make
notes so that you will not forget what you need to do. The guidelines will be your help to
have an easy task in writing because you know what you will do. If you have your title,
