Responding to environmental problems has always been a no-win proposition for managers.
Help the environment and hurt your business, or irreparably harm your business while protecting
the earth. Recently, however, a new common wisdom has emerged that promises the ultimate reconciliation of environmental and economic concerns. In this new world, both business and the environment can win. Being green is no longer a cost of doing business; it is a catalyst for innovation, new market opportunity, and wealth creation.
The idea that a renewed interest in environmental management will result in increased profitability for business has widespread appeal. In a new green world, managers might redesign a product so that it uses fewer environmentally harmful or resource-depleting raw materials—an effort that if successful could result in cuts in direct manufacturing costs and inventory savings.
This new vision sounds great, yet it is highly unrealistic, say some experts. Environmental costs are skyrocketing at most companies, with little chance of economic payback in sight. Given this reality, they question whether “win-win” solutions should be the foundation of a company’s environmental strategy.
Green Business practices, for small and medium businesses. Lets hope some companies at least follow it, and if they do we will be able to save our planet.
The term “environmental” means the conscious behavior of corporations or companies aimed at minimizing or eliminating damage to nature from human activities

Subject: Request to conduct research on implementing recycling procedures in the squadron
Summary
Last month, during the commander’s call, you asked us to think about things that could make us a better squadron, what things could we do to set us apart from the rest? Recycling does not occur at our unit and that is a huge issue. This would be a great idea because recycling comes with so many benefits and I believe it will steer us in the right direction in becoming the best unit possible.
What the Problem Is and Why It Needs to Be Investigated
The lack of recycling that occurs at our unit is evident to me when I see paper and plastics mixed in with waste baskets. Most organizations hardly focus on how much waste they generate, and it’s easy to assume that our unit produces a lot with over 600 defenders. This needs to be investigated because recycling effects our environment. We want to make sure that we are doing our part to keep our unit, environment, and the world free of waste, reduced greenhouse gases, and chemicals released into the air from rubbish.
What Secondary Research Has Been Conducted About the Problem
Secondary research I have conducted thus far consists of information obtained from literature via the web surrounding the importance of recycling. I have found many sources backing up the idea of recycling and its benefits to help save our earth. I located many articles detailing the process of recycling and how simple it is to implement into many organizations. There are an endless amount of scholarly and trade articles detailing the benefits, challenges and rewards that comes with recycling.
What Primary Research You Will Conduct About the Problem
With your permission,I will conduct a questionnaire with all the offices in the squadron asking what items they tend to put into the waste baskets the most. There I can begin to have an understanding about what items are contributed to the waste baskets the most. I want to discuss the importance of recycling and get some ideals from people on how they could help with the process. While doing that I will take a count of those that would recycle if the appropriate waste bins were made available. Having a discussion with everyone would allow me to be able to instill the importance of recycling while getting their feedback. Letting them know how easy it is to become a unit who recycles will be the last key point of the conversations. This method of simply interacting with the people at our unit and asking for their ideals and help with this matter I believe will go a long way. We all will benefit from this change so the ideas of all those affected will be beneficial.
What Benefits Will Result from Your Research
Our unit would benefit from this research because it is It’s a global problem. Accumulation of waste is not just a problem for a single nation. I don’t believe ...

13. In the UK alone, we use 12.5 million tonnes of paper
per year and it takes around 24 trees to make one
tonne, this is an alarming amount!
12.5m
14. 75% of each tree that is cut down to produce paper
is wasted
75%
15. The average person in the UK gets through 38kg of
newspapers per year
38kg
16. Recycling 1 ton of paper saves 17 trees, 2 barrels of oil
(enough to run the average car for 1,260 miles), 4,100
kilowatts of energy (enough power for the average home
for 6 months), 3.2 cubic yards of landfill space, and 60
pounds of air pollution.
20. Most businesses that implement
recycling schemes have cleaner
working environments, happier

and their bottom line is improved due
to the reduction in waste
management costs.
21. Offices can improve their green

22. A Net Impact Study shows that a

green credentials also contributes to
work satisfaction.

24. The more your employees both
recycle and reduce the amount of
waste they create in the first place,
the more your waste disposal cost
will decrease.
25. Integrating recycling and waste
reduction techniques into your daily

employees are saving the company
money while they do the right thing for
the planet.
26. Over a third of businesses that
recycle say it has improved their
reputation within the local
community.
27.
28. Over a quarter of companies who
recycle at work say they have saved
space by having designated areas
and clearly labelled containers/bins
for specific materials.
30. For every 100 reams of recycled office paper that is
printed doubled sided, the savings are estimated at
two trees, more than one tonne of greenhouse gases
and almost a cubic metre of landfill space.
31. Waste prevention and recycling reduces greenhouse
gases by reducing emissions, saving energy, and
increasing forest carbon sequestration.
32. Recycling one tonne of aluminium saves seven ton of
CO2 being emitted into the atmosphere. One ton of
CO2 is equivalent to emissions produced from driving
2800 miles.
35. Recycling at work needn’t
be a chore
more often than not, it is simply a matter
of providing convenient ways in which your staff can
contribute
36. Most businesses that implement

40. Cut down on unnecessary paper
usage and only print documents if it’s
absolutely essential.Use both sides of
a piece of paper, where possible

42. If you do have to print – recycle the
used paper. However make sure you
get your recycled paper picked up
and shredded by an accredited
company to ensure all confidential

43. Provide your staff with
re-usable bottles and ensure water
coolers are freely available
44. Last year, we got rid of (threw away
