points for improvement in your
workplace.
• They are used in a group setting and they
help to get insights from people with
different roles and backgrounds.

How to do it?
1. Choose problem area/theme to address (i.e. energy,
water, waste, occupational health and safety,…)
2. Draw crude outline of workplace area on paper with
key functions, machinery and facilities.

3. Decide your own symbols, i.e. Star = big problems, square
=medium problem, round dot = small problem
4. Put one transparent sheet on top of your drawing – (if you
don’t have a transparent sheet, draw directly on the map)

How to do it?
5. Look at the outline, think about problems in
respective locations and mark them on the
transparency using the symbols you chose
(You can replace the used sheet with a new transparent &
follow procedure for a new problem area/theme).
After selecting the problems you want to address,
you can start analyzing their causes, and finding
solutions, for example using the Fishbone diagram.
