2. What is The Mend?
The Mend is a sustainable packaging company that was
built on the institutional framework of environmental
sustainability, where we constantly strive to reduce our
waste impact on the Ecosystem.
We are committed to the environmental improvement of
our global community by striving for a world without waste
- one package at a time. We, at The Mend, do not want to
stop at just providing high quality sustainable packaging
for our clients but also want to give them a chance to
improve the circularity of their operations.
3. Our Mission
India alone has generated 8.5 million tons of plastic waste with a waste
collection rate of 70-80% as observed in the last four years.
Packaging is ubiquitous - Every physical goods seller requires packaging of
some form to protect, brand, enhance the customer experience, and
communicate the attributes of the product.
Yet, it is also the most useless part of the product value chain as it is typically
discarded right after use. With the amount of packaging discarded on an
annual basis, we can build a 12 foot high wall of junk from India to Turkey!
One-third of all landfill content is packaging waste, a completely divertible
solution by rethinking the way we create our Packaging.
The Mend aims to unbox a GREENER FUTURE by reducing this unnecessary
waste.
4. Recycling Initiative
To facilitate and streamline packaging waste collection,
and also recycle it further, we have partnered with
certified waste management firms and verified third party
recyclers across India with industry experience of 20
years.
The Mend use pre and post-consumer recycled materials
to create new packaging. This program ensures circularity
and minimum wastage of resources while essentially
putting back into your product what was discarded
earlier by your consumers!

How Does it Work?
6. Waste Collection and Processing
The packaging waste generated from your business operations will be collected by our waste partners from the allocated pick-up
points such as company’s warehouses, offline stores, municipal waste bins, and industrial complexes.
The collected waste will be sorted, processed/recycled at waste recycling facilities. Our waste management partners have recycling
facilities in over 35+ locations in India.
In the case of Reusable discarded packaging (in good condition/minimal damage), The Mend will upcycle the packaging through its
vendor network, and add it back to the manufacturing process.
In the case of non-recyclable waste, we ensure that the waste is incinerated ethically/utilized in waste to energy plants.
In addition to this, to ensure transparency, The Mend will issue detailed Sustainability Reports to verify, and monitor the recycled
waste.
Don’t let the waste generated by your company lie in your premises - allow us to collect and process it further
Steps:
7. Case Study #1: Stop & Go
Background
As a young, fast-growing enterprise striving towards environmental sustainability by creating earth-friendly and ethical clothing for its
consumers, Stop & Go wanted to extend its core green values to packaging as well. By partnering with The Mend, it had complete control
over its packaging materials but also wanted to ensure that the waste can be added back to their business operations.
The Mend's Role
The Mend helped by collecting and processing Stop & Go’s waste (such as poly mailers and paperboard boxes) generated from its
businesses operations. Stop & Go generates approximately 20 kgs of waste on a quarterly basis. The waste is collected, sorted, and
processed in a recycling facility in Bangalore. In order to track Stop & Go’s waste impact, The Mend generates sustainability reports of
the waste collected and recycled further. These reports are in turn utilized by Stop & Go as a medium of transparency to its clients and
commitment towards their internal SDGs.

8. Offset Your Paper Packaging Waste
Collect paper and packaging waste from local communities, industrial areas, etc.
The collection will ideally equate to the amount of packaging waste your organisation produces.
By recycling this output we are equalizing your impact on the environment and ensuring that it goes back into the circular economy
thereby offsetting your waste footprint.
The Mend will issue Sustainability Reports for verification. The reports will help you assess and evaluate the waste generated by your
business operations, carbon emissions impact, and offset through recycling and planting trees.
As the Mend predominantly works with recycled paper products as a source material, we are offering clients an offset program. We will
take ownership of the paper packaging waste such as paperboard boxes, cartons, and scrap bills generated by your company, and
recycle the equivalent amount and offer you an offset for the same.
Steps:
9. Case Study #2: The Collective
Background
The Collective, a producer of wellness products not only focuses on exclusively using recycled fibres for its paper-based packaging, but
also wants to take responsibility towards adding back to the recycling model. To minimise the impact its paper-based packaging is having
on the planet, The Collective has partnered with The Mend to recycle the equivalent of it’s paper packaging waste. The company’s paper
waste volumes are as high as 400 million tonnes on an annual basis.
The Mend's Role
The Mend handles all the waste (such as mono carton packaging) generated by The Collective by recycling it as well as collecting and
recycling off-site paper waste and offsetting this recycled waste on behalf of The Collective. The paper packaging waste is collected
from warehouses, industrial complexes, local communities, municipal bins etc. and an equivalent amount of 400 million tonnes (output The
Collective generates) of paper waste is processed. Post recycling, sustainability reports on the location of paper collection, weight of
paper recycled and mills that are partnering to recycle it, are shared with The Collective.

10. Extended Producer’s Responsibility (EPR)
In compliance with the EPR guidelines notified by the Union Environment Ministry, the regulations mandate recycling and reusing a
certain percentage of plastic produced by manufacturers, importers and brand owners.
By registering to our Extended Producer’s Responsibility (EPR) program, the Mend will assist you with offsetting your plastic packaging
waste. Through our EPR certified waste management partners, we provide the entire chain of custody with documentation, handle the
CPCB reporting, and the waste reports will be shared with you.
Post recycling, your business will earn a volume of plastic credits on behalf of The Mend for recycling i.e, 1 plastic credit equals 1 tonne
of plastic footprint. So if your organization has a plastic footprint of 10,000 kg, then you secure 10,000 plastic credits. Thereby,
offsetting your plastic footprint by securing credits for the waste you let out in the market.
We’re offering a solution beyond paper waste and giving our clients a chance to step up their responsibility as producers by helping them
register under EPR:
Steps:
11. Background
Beauty Mantra decided to elevate its social responsibility towards its stakeholders and the planet by addressing the plastic waste crisis.
They decided to revamp their existing waste management practices by subscribing to the PWM rules, 2016 - i.e to ensure that the plastic
packaging waste (such as bubble wraps, and poly mailers) generated by them is taken care of effectively.
The Mend's Role
Beauty Mantra noted that, on a quarterly basis, it generates 200 kgs of plastic waste (recyclable) which accounts for an annual outlet of
approximately 800 kgs or more. Through providing a comprehensive action plan, The Mend assists Beauty Mantra by recycling the
equivalent amount of plastic packaging that is let out in the market by the company, and in return Beauty Mantra earns plastic credits for
the waste recycled or scientifically treated. On a quarterly basis, our waste management partners collect the waste from the company’s
warehouses, municipal bins, industrial complexes, and it is then processed at our waste management partners’ recycling facilities. Post
recycling, sustainability reports on the location of collection, weight of recycled matter and organisations that are partnering to recycle it,
are shared with Beauty Mantra with a detailed report to track the same over a period of time.

12. As our constant endeavor to be truly sustainable, we take our commitment towards the environment
seriously, and offset our workforce’s carbon footprint by planting trees in our ‘Mend forest’ and also
encourage our clients to offset their entire packaging footprint by contributing towards the same.
We have partnered with Ecologi to become a climate positive workforce.
