Hilda Taba was an Estonian-American educator and curriculum theorist. She received degrees from Tartu University and Bryn Mawr College before earning her PhD from Teachers College at Columbia University. Taba was influenced by the ideas of John Dewey and focused on developing curriculum that encouraged critical thinking and problem solving skills in students. She believed curriculum should be tailored to students' developmental levels and connect new information to prior knowledge. Taba created a model for curriculum development that involved identifying student needs, defining objectives, selecting content and organization, choosing learning experiences, and evaluating outcomes. Her work emphasized teacher involvement and had a lasting influence on American education.
