Conclusion
To begin my questionnaire I felt that asking the gender of the people
was important because I wasn’t sure on what gender was most
suited to that style of music but in my head I wanted to target my
magazine at girls. I asked more girls than boys in hope that they had
some sort of interest in the rock style of music as I feel that the
content in the magazine would be easier to create if it was aimed at
females.
Another question I felt was necessary was question 3 and question 4
because finding out the hobbies people do could help me in seeing
what kind of life style the readers may lead which could possibly help
with thinking of content to use for my cover lines e.g. many people
said they enjoy w2atching telly therefore I could advertise tv shows
in a cover line. Question 4 also helped me as it gave an insight into
what class the target audience may be and the price I could put on
my magazine cover, most of them said they had jobs therefore it

won’t hurt putting the magazine at a decent price (slightly over being
cheap) because they can afford to spend their money.
I wanted to know how rock music made people feel to get an insight
into their lifestyle. The answers were as I expected because
stereotypically people who listen to rock music have a lot of deep
thoughts and sometimes a tough past/ present and they are also
seen as rebellious/ aggressive and therefore many of the answers
said it made them feel calm, happy and content, so I have an insight
into their lifestyle and an overall reason why rock music is important
to some people.
Finally two of my most important questions I feel were question 9
and 10. I wanted to know if people preferred solo artists or bands so
that I knew what amount of people I should use to represent my
genre. I also wanted to know if people preferred male or females in
rock industry and why and many of them said because they suit the
style of music more and have better suited/deeper voices. These
questions really helped me out because I know what gender I should
use in my magazine to represent rock music and I also know if I
should use a group or a solo artist on the front cover to attract the
reader.
Within my questionnaire I feel that it all went quite well, many
people answered the questions how I hoped they would. The only
thing I felt went wrong was the question about how regularly people
buy magazines. I feel as though maybe because of technology being
more updated now the magazines may be more outdated therefore
not as many people buy them even if it’s about their style of music.
Although if it was people I was asking who really do love rock music I
feel as though the quantity of people saying they buy them regularly
would be increased.

In terms of my target audience/representation I am going to be
targeting my magazine at white-British teenage girls between the
ages of 14-19 because at that stage many people have jobs or begin
to get pocket money therefore can afford to buy the magazines on
their own. Everyone I asked in my questionnaire was white-British
and I feel that it’s stereotypically more common for white people to
listen to rock music anyway. Girls are more likely to be the big
spenders and therefore wouldn’t mind splashing out money on a
magazine. I feel coming up with cover lines would be a lot easier for
females because I can include fashion and makeup tips inside even
though it is a music magazine it still fits in with the genre because I
can give tips for concert styles e.c.t. females also get ‘crushes’ on
band members/singers and therefore seeing a magazine including
content of them e.g. Interviews/ posters which would therefore
attract them to buy the magazine more.
In terms of my genre my magazine is definitely going to be rock. I
feel that this has become a more popular style of music recently and
the initial creating of it should be straight forward. As I know im
targeting my audience at white-British females in their teenage years
there is a lot of rock related content I can relate to them in a slightly
girlier way than I could with males.
My look for the magazine is going to be difficult to straight away tell
that its only for females because the rock look is dark anyway so
therefore males may be drawn to it at first sight of the cover.
Although the cover lines will give the indication that it is more female
orientated. The name of my magazine will be VOLT! The masthead
will be black and yellow and will have a lightning bolt underneath to
brand it. I want a slightly more girly colour added into it to possibly
help it attract more females but it will still be dark and edgy.
12. LibbyO’Connor
For my magazine I am now thinking to call it VOLT. The masthead
colour will be yellow and black with a lightning bolt underneath
which will brand it and make it recognisable. I feel as though the
magazine could look slightly tacky being covered in yellow and black
so I think I may make the colour scheme black, slightly involve yellow
but put some pinks in there so it looks slightly more girl orientated as
females are my target audience. I haven’t completely decided a main
image yet but I think I may make it on model as many people in the
questionnaires said they preferred solo artists. I also think that I’m
going to have a male on the main image as females will most likely
be attracted to the magazine if it has a male on the cover and
because most of the people on my questionnaire said they have
better voices for rock music. My cover lines on the front cover and
on the contents page are going to include concert dates, interviews,
articles, posters and fashion/makeup ideas to suit the female image
more.
I feel that doing a questionnaire to find out what people felt about
rock music/ magazines in general was a good idea, I think it was
quick and easy to do and I got all of the information I needed and all
of the results I hoped for. I did it at the busiest time of the day where
people were on their break and everyone seemed happy to comply
and do the questionnaire for me. I expected people to answer the
questions as a joke and not take it seriously but all of the results
seem serious. I feel although my results are valid and I got what I was
hoping to get back.
