The document discusses design choices made for the masthead and cover of a music magazine to attract the target audience. Key points:
- Red, black, and white colors were chosen to convey simplicity and classiness for the "classy pop" genre.
- The letter "e" in the magazine title was styled differently to make it eye-catching as the logo.
- A young, fashionable female model was used to appeal to the target audience of young, sophisticated women.
- Quotes and previews of music content were used strategically throughout to intrigue readers and encourage them to explore further inside the magazine.
2. For my masthead I chose to keep the theme of red/black and
white. This is because the genre of my magazine is not too pop but
more of a classy pop. These colours connote simplicity and they're
basic colours which attracts the audience as they can instantly tell
that the genre is nothing loud. I decided to do the letter “e” in a
slightly different font and colour to the rest of the masthead. This
was because the “e” represents the logo of the magazine and I
kept that theme throughout. It is also eye catching as it’s the
beginning of the word not only that but it differs from the rest
which shows that there is a slight different touch and twist to the
magazine. I wrote the strapline in red so that it is visible to the
audience and both things would catch their eye at the same time.
The bright red strapline as well as the big bold masthead.
3. As it is a music magazine, I added the ’50
must have songs of the week’ so that the
audience has something else to be
interested at in the magazine which relate
to the genre. This adds effect and attracts
the audience as they are reading a mixture
of things and finding out new information
instead of basing the magazine on one story
I added a floating quote in large red font with
the name of the artist which may attract the
audience as they will be curious to read the
magazine further. I didn't’t give out too much
information and let the audience think for
themselves which is why I decided to keep that
as a floating quote as it doesn't’t give out
much and there could be many stories behind
that one sentence. It is better to keep the
audience curious and interested instead of
giving the gossip away as they might just read
the front cover and leave the rest of the
4. I used a young female as my model for
the music magazine. This would address
to my audience as they are all young
females and particularly out going and
fun. My models costume is very elegant
and classy, it has gold which connotes
wealth and class which relates to my
target audience. The costume is also
black which connotes
sophistication, again my target audience
are young, sophisticated, elegant females
so they will be attracted to this type of
look. My model looks very fashionable as
her hair is down and styled as well as her
makeup. This then also appeals to my
genre as it is pop/soul/indie pop. An
example of a female artist who's music is
within this genre is Adele. I mostly looked
at her image on music magazines and
related that to mine. Which then related
to other aspects such as her target
audience would also be females which is
why she is dressed/looks a certain way on
music magazines to attract female
5. On the double page spread, I added this floating quote from the
interview. I decided that it would attract my audience as over the years
and recently, many people have been signed onto record deals through
their YouTube talent. It would relate to the young generation and the
young females who also have a music talent. This would inspire them and
build their confidence as females tend to have less confidence and will
only take their talents further by looking up to someone or
encouragement. Throughout the whole interview with the artist, I
decided to only make this quote red. This was because it would be the
first thing on the page that would attract my audience and they would
want to read on from the beginning and question themselves about how
YouTube changed this artists life.
