Determination of Kc for a Complex Ion Formation
Objectives
Find the value of the equilibrium constant for formation of FeSCN2+ by using the visible light
absorption of the complex ion. Confirm the stoichiometry of the reaction.
Background
In the study of chemical reactions, chemistry students first study reactions that go to completion.
Inherent in these familiar problems such as calculation of theoretical yield, limiting reactant, and
percent yield is the assumption that the reaction can consume all of one or more reactants to produce
products. In fact, most reactions do not behave this way. Instead, reactions reach a state where, after
mixing the reactants, a stable mixture of reactants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These values can be determined from a reaction table ( ICE table), as shown in Table 1:
Table 1: Reaction ICE Table Fe3+(aq) Initial Concentration Change in Concentration Equilibrium
Concentration [Fe3+]i x [Fe ]i x

+
SCN (aq) [SCN ]i x [SCN ]i x
!
FeSCN2+(aq) 0 +x x = [FeSCN2+]
The reaction ICE table demonstrates the method used in order to find the equilibrium concentrations
of each species. The values that come directly from the experimental procedure are found in the
shaded regions. From these values, the remainder of the table can be completed.
The initial concentrations of the reactants in Table 1 that is, [Fe3+] and [SCN ] prior to any reaction
can be found by a dilution calculation based on the values from Table 2 found in the procedure. Once
the reaction reaches equilibrium, we assume that the reaction has shifted forward by an amount, x.
Notice from Table 1 that the value of x is simply equal to the equilibrium concentration of FeSCN2+
(aq), or that x = [FeSCN2+] at equilibrium. The equilibrium value of [FeSCN2+] is determined
spectroscopically using Beer s Law. Its initial value in the table is zero because no FeSCN2+(aq) is
added to the initial solution. Finally, the equilibrium concentrations of the reactants, Fe3+(aq) and
SCN (aq), are found by subtracting the equilibrium concentration of FeSCN2+(aq) from the initial
concentrations of Fe3+(aq) and SCN (aq), as shown in the table above. Once all the equilibrium
values are

Summary Of Keeping Things Whole By Mark Strand
The poem Keeping Things Whole by Mark Strand is written in the first person point of view and the
narrator discusses his solitude and how he is always moving. Strand uses enjambment and the use of
free verse in Keeping Things Whole to convey the meaning of isolation and absence. One poetic
device used in Keeping Things Whole is enjambment. This is when a phrase is continued without a
pause at the end of a line. One example of enjambment in Keeping Things Whole is the phrase I am
the absence / of field (lines 2 3). By ending the line at the word absence , Strand creates an importance
and emphasis on the motif of absence. Another instance of enjambment in Keeping Things Whole is
We all have reasons / for moving (14 15). By stating

Noughts and Crosses Analysis Essay
Noughts and Crosses Analysis Novels help authors to explore a range of important issues in society,
which Malorie Blackman clearly portrays through Noughts and Crosses. This novel follows the lives
and experiences of two characters, Callum and Sephy. Throughout the book Blackman deals with a
number of key issues including racism and prejudice, love and friendship and lastly, violent and
peaceful protest. These themes are identified through different layers of meaning of her writing using
textual evidence. This is conveyed through the narrative techniques of characterisation, structure and
language in order to communicate the important messages to the readers. Blackman has created a
world of her own to contrast the society we live in, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Callum and Sephy represent an ideal relationship in a world full of human variety that s very far from
ideal. We can not be the same in regard to colour of our skin but can tolerate and respect each other.
Blackman gives both Callum and Sephy different voices, which develop throughout the novel. Sephy
sounds quite young at the beginning of the book. She uses a lot of exclamation marks and she dwells
upon the way events make her feel. While Callum comes across as older and more experienced from
the beginning, he shows more awareness of other people s feelings and he tends to react to problems
with bitter humour. Although his voice does matter as the story progresses, it doesn t change as much
as Sephy s. Both Sephy and Callum have a lot in common. They re bright, confident and strong willed
with strong feelings towards fairness and equality in in that light towards each other. But they can not
deny their different background and upbringing. Sephy grew up in a privileged and sheltered home
and because of this she is naïve to real life troubles, optimistic and expects life will work out well.
Callum has grown up seeing his parents, brother and sister facing all sorts of problems and life
hardship. His experience has taught him that however hard he tries in life, it will be difficult for him to
succeed therefore he s more cautious and pessimistic than Sephy. The author uses language as a tool to

Native Son Character Analysis
The late author Richard Wright s novel The Native Son takes place in the oppressed time frame of the
1930s in Chicago, Illinois. The protagonist, Bigger Thomas, a twenty year old black man from
Chicago s South Side lives with his mother and younger siblings Buddy and Vera Thomas in a small
apartment.
From the jump, we are faced with Bigger s conflict of man vs. society by hating his family and living

reveal how he and his friend group make a living through robbing other African Americans. At one
point Bigger gets into a deliberate fight with Gus, a member of his gang, and disrupts the plan that was
supposed to take place to rob a store who belongs to a white man named Blum. This is where the
reader is introduced to Bigger s conflict of man vs. race. Moreover the white race. Bigger goes as far
as to play Gus for the weak link calling Gus out in front of the gang for the concerns and doubts they
all secretly had. Bigger says on multiple occasions he is not afraid of a white man. Bigger and Gus
even initially mock white people in the introduction humorously. As if mockery was a way to prove
they weren t intimidated. But thanks to the third person point of view, we understand they are all too
afraid to actually stick to the plan of burglarizing Blum s store. None of them however publically
recognizes or admits that he, himself is afraid because Blum is white.

Characteristics Of Jainism In Ahimsa
The general idea of Ahimsa is concentrated on nonviolence and to abstain from any type of violent
behavior and any form of injury to all living things. They do not wish any harm on others. Ahimsa is
derived from the Indian religion of Jainism which is one of the most ancient religions in India. One of
the primary focal points of Jainism is that live human beings relationships and soul with other human
beings bring about the natural revelation of Ahimsa as the justification of the religion. Ahimsa s focus
is non violence, peaceful harmony with all things, and love. A Jain lives in Ahimsa by practicing these
similar characteristics because Jainism is the world s most peaceful religion. Jainism is a religion that
believes in non violence and the proper treatment of everything on this earth. Jains believe that just
thinking thoughts of another person is considered violence. Jains should not use words that could
injure or give unhappiness to one another. Jains will walk on sidewalk and sweep as their walking to
avoid killing an ant or some sort of bug, they are also taught to let animals live and die a natural death.
Even though they know nonviolence cannot be perfectly practiced they try their best to live it. Each
Jain is responsible for its own salvation. Aparigraha is one of the fundamental doctrines of Jainism,
somewhat like Ahimsa and Anekantvad derived from Sanskrit. Aparigraha stands for non possession,

Descriptive Essay On Animals
On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni Vergara
Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an
employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we
observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first
species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata
and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating
organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats.
Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in
habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because
they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for
their brown reddish coat with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them
to camouflage, bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When
approaching its prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using
its sharp teeth, claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet
consists of mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on

Ecotopia Big Wood Summary
In my excerpt of the reading, In Ecotopia s Big Wood s, Weston laments on Ecotopia s vast forests that
are treated with human dignity. The forests are looked at in a religious matter and treated like family.
The logging system includes education on the importance of trees in nature and how they must be
preserved by any means necessary. Weston even writes about a young man, who he points out did not
seem under the influence, leaning on a tree and saying, Brother Tree! . This appears to be the
consensus of every citizen in Ecotopia. The scientists of Ecotopia have even developed biodegradable
plastics out of tree pulp. Trees and the forests of Ecotopia are without a doubt a major factor in the
Ecotopian economy. Weston points out that in the America of the time, and arguably the America of
today, would find this to be not only a huge contradiction but also an economic penalty as a waste of
time. In America, time is money and the time it takes to reforest a logged forest, let alone teaching
those who are doing the logging about the importance of the forest would be looked at as a waste of
time and therefore money.
However, Weston appears to be appreciating this sentiment the Ecotopian society attributes to their
way of life and social norms. I read a few more excerpts from the book because I found it very
interesting how similar Ecotopia is to modern California s, and the northwest in general for that
matter, approach to environmentalism. Although Ecotopia is an exaggerated version of modern day
California, it is without a doubt based on what California was becoming and eventually became.
Recycling bins everywhere, civilized hippies starting their own communities in Northern California,
etc. Ecotopia is without a doubt based on California and the rest of the North West.
Being from the East Coast, I could vaguely relate to Weston in my shock of how different the same
country could be depending on the coast you resided on. I m not sure how many other states make you
pay for bags at the store, but I can assure you that much of the South and Southwest would have a
heart attack if they had to pay for their own bags. I consider myself an extremely Green individual,

Essay on Cause and Effects of Smallpox
Cause and Effects of Smallpox
Smallpox is caused by the variola virus that emerged in human populations thousands of years ago.
Smallpox is a specific, infectious, and highly contagious febrile disease known only to be transmitted
by humans. It is caused by a virus from air currents which are eventually passed on from person to
person. Smallpox varies from a mild form without skin manifestations to a highly fatal hemorrhagic
form. Edward Jenner, an English physician, discovered a means of preventing smallpox through
vaccination. Gradually mass vaccination programs were introduced in many parts of the world.

Exposure to the virus is followed by an incubation period which people may not feel any sign of
symptoms. The incubation period can range between 7 to 17 days. People are not contagious during
this time period. After the incubation period, high fever, chills, severe headache and backache, and
general malaise begin to develop. Your body temperature can reach up to 106 degrees Fahrenheit.
After 2 to 4 days, a rash emerges first as small red spots on the tongue and in the mouth. The spots
develop into sores which spread large amounts of the virus into the mouth and throat. The person
becomes most contagious during this phase. Soon after, the smallpox rash appears on exposed portions
of the body: the face, forearms, wrists, palms, lower legs, feet, and soles. Usually the rash spreads to
all parts of the body within 24 hours.
As the rash appears, the fever usually falls and the person may start to feel better. The rash becomes
raised bumps on the third day of the rash. The bumps fill with a thick, opaque fluid and often have a
depression in the center that looks like a bellybutton. (CDC, 2004). This is a major distinguishing
characteristic of smallpox that occurs on the fourth day. Until scabs form over the bumps, fever often
will rise

Yi, Huo, Li and Feng Chow [13] study the relationship between the time when flooding flow of smoke
occurs and the aspect ratio of atrium under different heat release rate (HRR) of fire,32 simulations
were carried out using a field model, FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator, Version 3). The size of the
atrium and HRR of steady fire are listed in Table (2 4). In all the simulations, the size of the fire room
was set at 3 m × 3 m × 3 m, the fire was located at the center of the floor of the fire room, the height
of atrium was 27 m. The vents in the fire floor were both 2 m × 1.5 m with sill at 1 m above the floor.
The ambient temperature is 20 oC.

The velocity profile at the vents is simply shown in Fig. 1. At the top of the vents, because the smoke
in the fire floor is lighter than the air in the atrium and outside, pressure difference between the fire

the vents, the pressure difference gets negative to that at the top. So there should be a zero pressure

Children and elderly persons sometime steal without realizing they are committing a crime. In urban
cities, it is not unusual to find a network of fences who send out teams of shoplifters into specific
retail stores to shoplift specific items, much like filling an order for a customer. The fences only pay
10 20 cents on the dollar to the thieves and sometimes pay their room, board, and provide training on
how to steal and defeat the anti theft technology. Some fences have been known to bail their workers
out of jail when caught or provide for their legal defense. This creates a kind of strange street loyalty
much like the tale of Oliver Twist.
Theft from stores, including employee and vendor theft, cost retailers many billions of dollars per
year. Independent retail studies* have estimated theft from retail stores costs the American public
33.21 billion dollars per year. Depending on the type of retail store, retail inventory shrinkage ranges
from .5% 6% of gross sales with the average falling around 1.75%. Whole retail store chains have
gone out of business due to their inability to control retail theft losses. And worse yet, the cost of these
losses are passed on to us...the consumer.
Shoplifting losses will vary by store type, but can account for about one third of the total inventory
shrinkage. It is estimated that shoplifting

Cupid, being known for love, has greatly influenced today s society even with his questionable

Attention Deficit Disorder is Overdiagnosed Essay
Attention Deficit Disorder is Overdiagnosed
If a child has attention deficit disorder then the child has attention deficit disorder,
but if the child does not have attention deficit disorder, and a person goes down a yellow
brick road to correct the malady under the pretense that attention deficit disorder is the
focus, and the attention deficit disorder medications and therapy are the cure, then do not

This speculation is proven true especially for very active little boys.
Over the past few years, the number of children and adolescents referred to
professionals for attention deficit disorder has dramatically increased. Three to six
percent of school aged children are diagnosed with attention deficit disorder (Silver
107 108). One to two percent of adult men and women in the United States have been
said to have attention deficit disorder and three to ten percent of children are diagnosed
with attention deficit disorder in the Untied States, with three quarters of them boys
(Hales 338). Not a single one of the five to six million children in the United Sates who
have been diagnosed with attention deficit disorder bears unbiased evidence of a physical
or chemical abnormality establishing proof that they are diseased, other than the fact that
the children are normal (Baughman 11 12 00). All children commonly lack persistence,
lack attentiveness, are impulsive, and are constantly restless (Parker 209).
Physicians in the United States misdiagnose attention deficit disorder more
readily than doctors elsewhere in the world (Encarta 11 12 00). Many problems a person
may face mirror the behaviors and diagnosis of attention deficit disorder and it is, many
times, easier just to say a person has attention deficit disorder than look for the real cause.

Symbolism and the Power of Three in Sir Gawain and the...
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is a late 14th century Middle English alliterative romance about the
adventure of Sir Gawain, King Arthur s Knight of the Round Table. This great verse is praised not
only for its complex plot and rich language, but also for its sophisticated use of symbolism.
Symbolism is a technique used in Sir Gawain and the Green Knight to give a significance to the plot.
The Green Knight, the Green Sash, and Sir Gawain s Shield are three of the most prominent symbols
given to us in this verse. The Green Knight, serves as a symbol himself. He is presented as a mixture
of foreign and familiar, evil and good. In the beginning the Green Knight is carrying peace(holly

In English folklore green was used to show rebirth, and a youth s passing (Lewis 50 51). In the story
the sash also represents cowardice, he gave into the lady and lied about the present (Goldhurst 61 65).
The fear of death ended up causing his downfall. In the end the sash was worn by all at the Round
Table, to show them the lesson learned by Gawain both in his rebirth in learning his lesson and in
remembrance of his sacrifice for King Arthur. The Power of Three is also a strong occurrence in this
writing, and in many Old English works. Sir Gawain has three different events in three stages: the
three hunts, the three seductions, and the three axe swings; all three relate to each other. The hunt by
Sir Gawain s host and the Seduction of Gawain by the lady are closely related to each other, but with a
twist, in the seduction scenes it is the hunter being hunted by the prey. During the first hunt, the Lords
prey is a deer. The deer is skittish and an easy catch, in the seduction scene Sir Gawain is able to
easily escape the trap from the lady. The Lord let the buck pass by as it was counted a crime to molest
the male deer (Poet 1154 6). As it was a crime to molest a male deer, it was also a crime for the lady to
molest the male deer. The Lady intimidated Sir Gawain, and this is where the first swing of the Green
Knights axe relates. The Green Knight stops the first swing just as Sir Gawain stopped the first
seduction. His fear of death causes him to

The Reigns Of David, Hezekiah And Josiah
After many centuries of being under the rule of judges, the Israelites finally ask Samuel to appoint a
king, making Israel like most other nations being ruled as monarchies. This request leads to the
appointing of the first king of Israel, Saul, followed by centuries of kings (1 Samuel 8 9). A large
majority of these kings have been deemed to be bad kings, leaving only a small handful to be
considered good. In general, these kings are given such labels for their actions and policies throughout
their time of power. This paper will discuss the reigns of David, Hezekiah and Josiah and what makes
them considered good kings, as well as Ahab and Manasseh and the actions that deemed them to be
bad kings. Throughout the history of Israel and Judah, there have been very few kings that are
classified by scholars as being good. The king in which all other kings are measured up to, and
possibly the most widely known, would be David. He is actually stated to be the most fully developed
character in the Hebrew bible (Coogan 255). David took reign after Saul and at this time Israel was
still a united monarchy. His success as a king can be contributed to both his character and relationship
with God. David s talent as a warrior can be seen when he so effortlessly conquers the massive
Philistine, Goliath. He also exhibited political and military strength as a double agent working for the
Israelites while living amongst the Philistines, all while conquering the enemies of Israel.

Concerning this highly important subject of fair and equal compensation to motivate employees, a fair
and equitable compensation system should be free of bias which can only serve to increase profits for
a company verse a substandard compensation package which can only result in undeniable failure of
such a company. By the same token, this can serve to attract employees that can truly make a
difference for the company and it s bottom line. What is more, a fair system can serve to add to the
perceived distributed justice of that company. Theories of distributive justice seek to specify what is
meant by a just distribution of goods among members of society (Internet Encyclopedia of
Philosophy). Notably, if an employee witnesses lower level performer s receiving higher
compensation than their own. Than that employee is likely to grow resentment against the company
and its compensation packages. Thus, this may cause a high performer to leave elsewhere where they
will receive improved compensation. In particular, companies would want to avoid such resentment
because it will lead to a less motivated workforce and talent pool. By the same token, if the employee
is an especially high performer the chances of that employee leaving are even greater because he or
she will value their pay to the amount of effort applied. Hence, if a company wants to retain and keep
great performers then the company needs to attract employees that can make a difference through a

Coxwold Research Paper
This scenic walk explores the western fringe of the Howardian Hills. There are superb views across
the Vale of York and Kilburn s White Horse is visible throughout most of the walk. Coxwold is one of
England s most beautiful villages with elegant houses and cottages lining its broad main street.
Notable buildings include: five almshouses, founded in 1662 as a hospital for ten poor persons; and
the Old Hall, a former Grammar School, founded in 1603 by Sir John Harte from Kilburn, who had
been the Lord Mayor of London in 1589. However, the most prominent building in the village is St
Michael s Church with its stately octagonal tower. The church dates from the fifteenth century and
stands unchanged, apart from minor repairs. Inside, several magnificent memorials pay tribute to the
Fauconberg and Belasyse families. The oldest of these is the altar tomb bearing the date 1603, which
shows the recumbent effigies of Sir William Belasyse and his wife Margaret. The base of the wooden
lectern stand has the carving of a mouse, the trademark of renowned woodcarver Robert Thompson,
the Mouseman of Kilburn . At the top of the village stands Shandy Hall, former home of the ... Show

Large gardens with productive orchards of apple, pear and plum trees became part of the village
economy. In addition, selling of the fruit crop provided a sizeable income and often paid a tenants rent
for the full year. Evidently, Husthwaite supplied fruit to the Whitby whaling fleet and the boat owners
presented some whale jawbones to the village in the 1800s, which once formed an arch across the
Malton road. By the late 1960s, many of the existing orchards had disappeared, leaving very little
evidence of the village s heritage. Nevertheless, in 2009 a project started by the village history society
saw a revival in commercial growing to fund a variety of projects within the

Boccaccio’s The Decameron Essay
The Decameron, by Boccaccio, is a frame story written in the mid fourteenth century. There are a
hundred stories told over a span of ten days. On the second day, a man tells a story about a princess,
Alatiel, who was sent away to marry a king. Before Alatiel reaches her destination, she has sexual
experiences with a lot of different men. Alatiel is treated like an object and allows this objectification
to happen because she is so fickle and does nothing to stop the men. The fickleness of Alatiel and the
treatment of her as an object is evident throughout the story.
The story starts off portraying Alatiel as an object when her father, the sultan of Babylon, promises her
hand to the king of Algarve (48). Alatiel has no say in who she ... Show more content on

Research Paper On Post Modernism
Post modernism The second part of this essay is devoted to post modernism. I have chosen two
periods of Modernism and Post Modernism as they are so much interconnected, the further
development of modernism resulted in forming another movement in art, called as post modernism.
The word post modernism is over used nowadays and it gives the impression of being just nothing
behind the popular buzzword. Although, it is a separate movement, which has a number of
commonalities with modernism art, but at the same time has significantly different characteristics.
[12]
The world started to talk about post modern in literature in 50s, after the end of Second World War.
There was a strong historical background that influenced the authors. The rapid evolution of tensions
between the nations into of cold war, up growth of manufacturing leading to overconsumption,
Chinese Cultural Revolution, devastation after using US atom bombs in Japan, rapid development of
ICT and it is effect on the human communication, development of multi corporations, mass media
gaining the great importance in the society, all these could not leave the world of art without the
reaction. All these new phenomena formed the new way of perception. [13]
In post modern the denial of previous norms continues, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In modernism it started with the presenting ambiguity of the texts. In post modernism intertextuality
developed into two dimensions: horizontal (writer reader relation) and vertical (one text to another
text relation). Post modernism doesn t hide the fact the texts are constructed, and sees the values of the
text in text s place in the network of texts. Borges, the key figure in Spanish speaking modern
literature, writes that The certitude that everything has been written negates us or turns us into
phantoms . [15] This becomes one of the core statements of post modernism: everything has been
already written .

1. What is your action plan? Do you recommend that WESCO be proactive in Managing its NA
program or would you prefer that WESCO adopt a passive approach? Action Plan: WESCO should
definitely adopt a proactive approach in managing its NA program. A proactive approach in managing
the NA program would definitely fulfill the company s visions of becoming a $ 3 billion company
with an average EBIT of over 5% by the year 2000 (from its 1996 figures of $ 2.2 billion company
with an EBIT of around 3%.) Though the current position was not conducive to continue the program

 As in the case of WESCO s success story with an industrial customer in the paper segment,
WESCO conducted a complete energy audit and recommended more energy efficient systems for all
their plants. They also reduced inventory and implemented EDI procurement.  Customer s
sometimes even wanted a complete solution and wanted WESCO to handle their new projects in
designing specifications and installation of new systems.  Value is also added in NA projects in
terms of managing customers inventory saving customers time and therefore cost. This also helps the
customer to reduce their procurement cost and gives the customer the opportunity to standardize
procurement. Thus summarizing, WESCO adds value to its customers in terms of: Transaction cost
reductions, Energy savings, Inventory reductions. This ultimately led to cost savings to the customer.
3. Why do you think the NA program is delivering on its promises? WESCO s NA program had been
established under the premise that large contracts could mean significant savings for both customers
and WESCO. In exchange for giving their EES business to WESCO, NA Customers received
competitive, year long, national pricing regardless of volume. Once a client enters into an agreement
with Wesco for its NA program there might be good chances the customer might give its EES business
also to the company. This

The Iroquois Creation Myth
Exegesis Many Native Americans tell stories of the creation of earth that explain how they came to be
before the Europeans entered North America. Creation myths vary among all cultures; however, they
all have one thing in common; heaven and earth. One of the most popular creation myths was the
Iroquois creation myth. The Iroquois or Haudenosaunee meaning People of the Longhouse (Iroquois
Indian Museum, n.d.) consists of six Indian nations that include the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga,
Cayuga, Seneca, and Tuscarora tribes. In the beginning, there was a belief that before the creation of
earth, there were two realms, the sky, and the lower world that consisted of water and water creatures.
From the sky, a young woman named the Sky Woman was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He flung her head into the night sky and threw her body into the ocean, resulting in the Sky Woman
becoming Grandmother moon. Interpretation The story of the Sky Woman, her daughter and twin
grandsons depicts the beginning of the world and creates the belief that everyone is born with good
and evil in them. The significance of nature influences how the Native Americans belief that nature,
animals, and humans are equal counterparts. If it had not been for the help of the animals, Sky Woman
would have died and the creation of earth would not exist. The twins play a significant role among the
Iroquois that the good and evil are necessary for the world to be in balance. The belief that Sky
Woman is the leader of all female life who controls the rise and fall of the waters and a companion to
the stars (Olan, n.d.) and regulates the monthly cycles of all females in which guarantees new life will
be born (Olan, n.d.). The myth signifies the Native American belief of how the creation and
reincarnation of humans connects to the rise and fall of the sun and moon. The Iroquois Creation Myth
is a detailed and complex myth that has many different versions. The earliest complete transcription
and translation of the Iroquois creation myth by David Cusick s Sketches of the Ancient History of the
Six Nations (Cusick, 1828). In different versions of the myth, Sky Woman gives birth to twin boys,
and in another, Sky Woman s daughter gives birth. In similar sequence,

The Achievements Of King Alexander And King Philip
Alexander and King Philip When one begins to explore King Alexander and his amazing
accomplishments, they must first examine his upbringing. Alexander was the son of King Philip II of
Macedonia, who also achieved greatness, and ascended to the thrown at twenty one years old.
Alexander was provided by his father, a remarkable foundation, which included the best education,
not only focusing on academics, but philosophy and military maneuvers as well. Philip was from
Macedonia, which was located in northern Greece. This was a very rurual area that relied on farming
as it main economy. This economy could be easily disrupted by the frequent conflicts within the
country between the local kings and the elites. Macedonia was also vulnerable to attacks from its
neighbors. Another issue for the Macedonians was that they were not viewed as Greek by their
neighbors in Athens. They were considered barbarians. This kept them from engaging in politics in
Greece. King Philip II was born in 382 BC in Macedonia and was the youngest of three sons. Philips
father was King Amyntas III and when he died, he left the thrown to his eldest son Alexander II.
Alexander II died after only three years and then the thrown was then given to the middle son
Perdiccas III. Philip was held hostage by Thebes, for approximately three years, to help control the
behavior of his brother the King Alexander II. Hostages were not treated horribly, as we envision
today. They were held by their captures for

Italian Immigration To California Essay
Drawn by the prospects of job opportunities, agriculture, land, and gold Italians began immigrating to
California in the mid 19th century. At this time many Italians had settled on the east coast, causing
California [to be free] from the threat of large scale immigration, because few Italian peasants were
able to afford the additional travel expenses (Giovinco 198). However, the Italians coming to
California were mostly from the northern parts of Italy, while those that settled on the east coast were
from the southern parts of Italy. Once arriving in California, the Italians settled in the North Beach
area of San Francisco, Monterey, and southern California between the cities of Los Angeles and San
Diego. The immigration of Italians to California came in three main waves with the first wave arriving
between the mid 19th century until shortly before World War II, and were driven by poverty and
struggle, (Yollin) while the second wave, arriving during the period just before the war until 1970,
were mainly middle class Italians who wanted to join their relatives or escape postwar ruins (Yollin).

This northern California winescape is dotted with Italian surnames that suggest traditional roots of
pioneering viticulturists (Helzer 49). For Italians, they adapted their old world winemaking traditions
to new lands (Helzer 49), and their success can be partially attributed to the similarities in landscape,
ecology, and climate between California and the rolling countryside of northwestern Italy (Vaught
885). Furthermore, the success of these immigrants can be attributed to their plethora of access to

  • 2. Chemical Equilibrium and Santa Monica College Chemistry 12 Santa Monica College Determination of Kc for a Complex Ion Formation Objectives Find the value of the equilibrium constant for formation of FeSCN2+ by using the visible light absorption of the complex ion. Confirm the stoichiometry of the reaction. Background In the study of chemical reactions, chemistry students first study reactions that go to completion. Inherent in these familiar problems such as calculation of theoretical yield, limiting reactant, and percent yield is the assumption that the reaction can consume all of one or more reactants to produce products. In fact, most reactions do not behave this way. Instead, reactions reach a state where, after mixing the reactants, a stable mixture of reactants ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These values can be determined from a reaction table ( ICE table), as shown in Table 1: Table 1: Reaction ICE Table Fe3+(aq) Initial Concentration Change in Concentration Equilibrium Concentration [Fe3+]i x [Fe ]i x 3+ + SCN (aq) [SCN ]i x [SCN ]i x ! FeSCN2+(aq) 0 +x x = [FeSCN2+] The reaction ICE table demonstrates the method used in order to find the equilibrium concentrations of each species. The values that come directly from the experimental procedure are found in the shaded regions. From these values, the remainder of the table can be completed. The initial concentrations of the reactants in Table 1 that is, [Fe3+] and [SCN ] prior to any reaction can be found by a dilution calculation based on the values from Table 2 found in the procedure. Once the reaction reaches equilibrium, we assume that the reaction has shifted forward by an amount, x. Notice from Table 1 that the value of x is simply equal to the equilibrium concentration of FeSCN2+ (aq), or that x = [FeSCN2+] at equilibrium. The equilibrium value of [FeSCN2+] is determined spectroscopically using Beer s Law. Its initial value in the table is zero because no FeSCN2+(aq) is

  • 5. Summary Of Keeping Things Whole By Mark Strand The poem Keeping Things Whole by Mark Strand is written in the first person point of view and the narrator discusses his solitude and how he is always moving. Strand uses enjambment and the use of free verse in Keeping Things Whole to convey the meaning of isolation and absence. One poetic device used in Keeping Things Whole is enjambment. This is when a phrase is continued without a pause at the end of a line. One example of enjambment in Keeping Things Whole is the phrase I am the absence / of field (lines 2 3). By ending the line at the word absence , Strand creates an importance and emphasis on the motif of absence. Another instance of enjambment in Keeping Things Whole is We all have reasons / for moving (14 15). By stating ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Noughts and Crosses Analysis Essay Noughts and Crosses Analysis Novels help authors to explore a range of important issues in society, which Malorie Blackman clearly portrays through Noughts and Crosses. This novel follows the lives and experiences of two characters, Callum and Sephy. Throughout the book Blackman deals with a number of key issues including racism and prejudice, love and friendship and lastly, violent and peaceful protest. This is conveyed through the narrative techniques of characterisation, structure and language in order to communicate the important messages to the readers. Callum and Sephy represent an ideal relationship in a world full of human variety that s very far from ideal. We can not be the same in regard to colour of our skin but can tolerate and respect each other. Blackman gives both Callum and Sephy different voices, which develop throughout the novel. Sephy sounds quite young at the beginning of the book. She uses a lot of exclamation marks and she dwells upon the way events make her feel. While Callum comes across as older and more experienced from the beginning, he shows more awareness of other people s feelings and he tends to react to problems with bitter humour. Although his voice does matter as the story progresses, it doesn t change as much as Sephy s. Both Sephy and Callum have a lot in common. They re bright, confident and strong willed with strong feelings towards fairness and equality in in that light towards each other. But they can not deny their different background and upbringing. Sephy grew up in a privileged and sheltered home and because of this she is naïve to real life troubles, optimistic and expects life will work out well. Callum has grown up seeing his parents, brother and sister facing all sorts of problems and life hardship. His experience has taught him that however hard he tries in life, it will be difficult for him to succeed therefore he s more cautious and pessimistic than Sephy. • 14. Descriptive Essay On Animals On October 19th 2017, my classmates and I had the opportunity to visit the Lamar Bruni Vergara Environmental Center. During our visit, we toured the facility and were privileged to have an employee inform us on the grand diversity of the species found in our region. Throughout the tour, we observed and discussed a variety of animals, however in this paper I decided to focus on five: The first species we encountered during our tour was a bobcat or Lynx rufus. The bobcat s phylum is chordata and from the class mammalia. It belongs to the order carnivora, which consists of meat eating organisms. The bobcat then falls under the family, felidae commonly referred to as the family of cats. Found all throughout North America, from southern Canada to central Mexico, the bobcats can live in habitats like mountain ranges, prairies, and deserts. These habitats are favorable to bobcats because they can camouflage with their environment and have more success as hunters. Bobcats are known for their brown reddish coat with black spots and a few stripes. Apart from their coat which allows them to camouflage, bobcats are also efficient hunters because of their speed and intelligence. When approaching its prey, a bobcats tends to creep on its victim and attack once it is close enough. Using its sharp teeth, claws, and strength, this wildcat can kill prey much larger than its size. Their diet consists of mostly rabbits, hares, and mice. Aside from those animals, bobcats sometimes prey on ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. Ecotopia Big Wood Summary In my excerpt of the reading, In Ecotopia s Big Wood s, Weston laments on Ecotopia s vast forests that are treated with human dignity. The forests are looked at in a religious matter and treated like family. The logging system includes education on the importance of trees in nature and how they must be preserved by any means necessary. Weston even writes about a young man, who he points out did not seem under the influence, leaning on a tree and saying, Brother Tree! . This appears to be the consensus of every citizen in Ecotopia. The scientists of Ecotopia have even developed biodegradable plastics out of tree pulp. Trees and the forests of Ecotopia are without a doubt a major factor in the Ecotopian economy. Weston points out that in the America of the time, and arguably the America of today, would find this to be not only a huge contradiction but also an economic penalty as a waste of time. In America, time is money and the time it takes to reforest a logged forest, let alone teaching those who are doing the logging about the importance of the forest would be looked at as a waste of time and therefore money. However, Weston appears to be appreciating this sentiment the Ecotopian society attributes to their way of life and social norms. I read a few more excerpts from the book because I found it very interesting how similar Ecotopia is to modern California s, and the northwest in general for that matter, approach to environmentalism. Although Ecotopia is an exaggerated version of modern day California, it is without a doubt based on what California was becoming and eventually became. Recycling bins everywhere, civilized hippies starting their own communities in Northern California, etc. Ecotopia is without a doubt based on California and the rest of the North West. Being from the East Coast, I could vaguely relate to Weston in my shock of how different the same country could be depending on the coast you resided on. I m not sure how many other states make you pay for bags at the store, but I can assure you that much of the South and Southwest would have a heart attack if they had to pay for their own bags. • 39. The Reigns Of David, Hezekiah And Josiah After many centuries of being under the rule of judges, the Israelites finally ask Samuel to appoint a king, making Israel like most other nations being ruled as monarchies. This request leads to the appointing of the first king of Israel, Saul, followed by centuries of kings (1 Samuel 8 9). A large majority of these kings have been deemed to be bad kings, leaving only a small handful to be considered good. In general, these kings are given such labels for their actions and policies throughout their time of power. This paper will discuss the reigns of David, Hezekiah and Josiah and what makes them considered good kings, as well as Ahab and Manasseh and the actions that deemed them to be bad kings. Throughout the history of Israel and Judah, there have been very few kings that are classified by scholars as being good. The king in which all other kings are measured up to, and possibly the most widely known, would be David. He is actually stated to be the most fully developed character in the Hebrew bible (Coogan 255). David took reign after Saul and at this time Israel was still a united monarchy. His success as a king can be contributed to both his character and relationship with God. David s talent as a warrior can be seen when he so effortlessly conquers the massive Philistine, Goliath. He also exhibited political and military strength as a double agent working for the Israelites while living amongst the Philistines, all while conquering the enemies of Israel. ... Concerning this highly important subject of fair and equal compensation to motivate employees, a fair and equitable compensation system should be free of bias which can only serve to increase profits for a company verse a substandard compensation package which can only result in undeniable failure of such a company. By the same token, this can serve to attract employees that can truly make a difference for the company and it s bottom line. What is more, a fair system can serve to add to the perceived distributed justice of that company. Theories of distributive justice seek to specify what is meant by a just distribution of goods among members of society (Internet Encyclopedia of Philosophy). Notably, if an employee witnesses lower level performer s receiving higher compensation than their own. Than that employee is likely to grow resentment against the company and its compensation packages. Thus, this may cause a high performer to leave elsewhere where they will receive improved compensation. In particular, companies would want to avoid such resentment because it will lead to a less motivated workforce and talent pool. By the same token, if the employee is an especially high performer the chances of that employee leaving are even greater because he or she will value their pay to the amount of effort applied. Hence, if a company wants to retain and keep great performers then the company needs to attract employees that can make a difference through a fair ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

There are superb views across the Vale of York and Kilburn s White Horse is visible throughout most of the walk. Coxwold is one of England s most beautiful villages with elegant houses and cottages lining its broad main street. Notable buildings include: five almshouses, founded in 1662 as a hospital for ten poor persons; and the Old Hall, a former Grammar School, founded in 1603 by Sir John Harte from Kilburn, who had been the Lord Mayor of London in 1589. However, the most prominent building in the village is St Michael s Church with its stately octagonal tower. The church dates from the fifteenth century and stands unchanged, apart from minor repairs. Inside, several magnificent memorials pay tribute to the Fauconberg and Belasyse families. The oldest of these is the altar tomb bearing the date 1603, which shows the recumbent effigies of Sir William Belasyse and his wife Margaret.
