This document summarizes a study that uses discrete-event simulation to analyze the performance of single-channel and multiple-channel queuing systems. Data was collected from a bank (POSB) using a single queue and a fast food restaurant (McDonalds) using multiple queues. Simulation results found that converting McDonalds to a single queue reduced average queue length by 48% and wait time by 9 times, while converting POSB to multiple queues significantly increased wait times. Therefore, a single queue is more efficient for customer service.
