Question 7
Looking back at your
preliminary task, what do you
feel you have learnt in the
progression from it to the full
product?
I went for a minimalistic
appearance on my front cover,
with a solid coloured
background, the reasoning
behind this is I want the cover
image to really do the speaking.
In my preliminary task There
was no colour scheme and too
much going on, on the page.
There is a selling line in my
music magazine which is a
convention I did not include in
my preliminary task .
My final cover features a
range of cover lines that go
into enough detail, but not too
much. Whereas my
preliminary cover just listed
the contents of magazine and
had no structure.
The main title and subtitle is
linked to the cover image.
they clearly state who the
artist is and why he's
featured but it does not give
away too much. The text is
the same colour as the
watch, gold which
represents money and
luxury, just like a rappers
life. In my preliminary I did
not have all these links
between the artists and the
words chosen.
The masthead in this cover
compared to my preliminary cover
is that it's bold and iconic, really
stands out it also relates to my
genre.
I used two photos in my contents
and these photos link to the story
on that page, where as I did not
use a photo in my preliminary.
The images throughout are not
too large, they are just consistent
and add a good aesthetic to the
page. One image is of a singer
featured in the magazine and the
other is of a model for the fashion
section of the magazine. My
contents page is really well laid
out unlike my preliminary, which
looks rushed and is not well
presented. In my preliminary there
is a lot of space but in my music
magazine contents there is no
space and all of it is used well
without it looking messy.
The page numbers are one of the main
conventions of a magazine contents
page. I have made mine clear and next
to them is the page title in bold and
underneath is a brief description. In my
preliminary I had no description and the
text was in the middle with no structure.
I have my magazine name in the top
right and the date underneath. I did not
have any of these in my preliminary.
Across the bottom is is a free ep, it
includes a description and the cover with
a tracklist, my preliminary did not have
anything like this.
The main body of text in my contents
is in a clear font and format. The
contents itself gives enough insight
without giving too much away. Each
category is clear shown and the
colour scheme all goes very well. In
my preliminary there is no colour
scheme and no categories and the
text does not look good.
