2. Jop Van Bennekom (Fantastic
Man)
• Art Director and Editor Jop van Bennekom is the founder of the influential men's
magazine FANTASTIC MAN and the sensational women's magazine THE
GENTLEWOMAN.
• Both titles are testing grounds for his strong concepts and groundbreaking photo shoots
and graphic design skills.
• ANTASTIC MAN has provided a whole decade of entertainment and excitement in
magazine form. Throughout its anniversary year and beyond, the original style journal
for men will continue to redefine the genre.
• Fanatstic Man magazine is relevent to my magazine as the graphic design on the front
cover as seen from the following slide is simplistic but very formal and effective. There
is ofetn a white background around the image which makes it stand out. The mast head
is also always in the same place and the same found to create a successful brand
through repetition. The images show off Bennekoms excellent photography through
capturing different male emotions and presenting them in a neat and tidy format. I can
adjust the simplicity of this magazine and use it for mine with the layout of fonts and
photographs to create neat and tidy magazine.
4. Mike Meire (o32c)
• 032c magazine is an English-language, bi-annual contemporary culture magazine
that covers art, fashion, and politics. Mike Meire is driven far less by the desire to
make a statement than by an earnest ambition to offer people products that are
different from all the other ones already available to them on the market. He
focuses on the alternatative and different.
• There is a great hype surrounding 032c having long abated.
• o32c is a contemporary magazine that focuses on a wide rang of topics. It has a
simple for effective cover page with a bright red page with a main dominating
photo. The colours work well together and are very effective. This draws attention
to the magaizne through great graphic design skills which I hope to recreate in my
own magazine.
6. David Carson (raygun)
• David Carson (born September 8, 1954) is a sucessful American graphic
designer and art designer making him a very talented person. He is best
known for his innovative magazine design and use of experimental
typography. He was the art director for the magazine Ray Gun, where he
but his typography into practice to create an aphetically pleasing
magazine.
• Raygun is a magazine that has no boundaries and the concept is pure
craziness through the unstructured design and presentation of the
magazine. The covers consist of many complicated layers that includes
fonts and pictures with a wide variety of fonts, colours and shapes. I can
adapt Carsons b rillian ideas and presntation in my own mgazine through
having no bouderies and being fully creative to creat an applealing
magazine for my audience that will be attractive and genre appropiate.
