Evaluation – Question 5b
Focused audience Questionnaire (aged 16-25)
My first question was ‘what genre do
you think my magazine is?’ and the
answers were multiple choice of 4
options which were: Rap, rock, pop
and house; all of the 15 answers were
rap which shows that my magazine
clearly represents this genre and that
is good because I wanted the
magazine to clearly look like a rap
magazine. In addition, the audience
age group is young adults and older
teenagers, this age group know a lot
about the rap genre because it’s the
biggest genre in this century whereas
older people or younger wouldn’t be
100% sure on what genre this
magazine represents.
My second question was an additional question to question 1 and it was ‘what features help identify
this?’ I asked what features help them identify that my magazine is a rap magazine and I got many
similar answers; most people said the main image was the feature that identified the genre which is
excellent because I used a rap artist with typical gangster clothing which is what famous rap artists wear
all the time. In addition, they said the masthead too and this amazing feedback too because the word
blazed is a slang term that gangsters uses and the word is an aggressive and powerful word like the rap
genre which relates to it. In conclusion, they said the colour scheme match the genre which is great news
to hear because the colour scheme of red, grey, black and white which is a creative, colourful theme
which relates to the creativity of rap.
My third question was a scale question and the question was ‘from 1- 10 how clear is my font?’ and
everyone chose 9 and 10 which is great and this shows that my font was clear and bold which is
important for me because I want the audience to understand my magazine fully.
My fourth question was a simple question ‘which gender is my magazine mainly aimed at?’ and 13
people said male and the other 2 said both, but nobody said female; I was expecting this result because
this genre is mainly aimed at males.
My fifth question was ‘Do you think my colour scheme matches my genre (rap)?’ and I asked this because
I wanted to be sure that my colour scheme represents the genre and doesn’t represent another genre. All
of the answers were yes which was unexpected because I got a 100% positive feedback and I was
expecting a few nos.
My sixth question was ‘Does the front cover look like a professional magazine?’ and I asked this because I
made my magazine look the best as possible by trying to make it look professional by structuring it like
successful magazines. The answers I got was amazing because 92.9% said yes which is amazing feedback
for me because I did a lot of research on magazines to use a common lay out and theme as them.
My seventh question was ‘How appealing is my main image from 1 -10?’ and I asked this question
because I wanted to find out if my main image would attract the audience straight away. The answers I
got were positive with answers of 8,9 and 10, which is perfect. This excellent feedback because now I
know viewers will be attracted to the magazine after looking at the main image of a glowing rap artist
wearing fashionable clothing with direct address to the audience which makes the reader connect to the
magazine. I asked this question because my target audience is into rap and they know rap artists so they
recognize this rap artist.
My eighth question was ‘ How clear is the layout and structure of my front cover?’ and I asked this
question because I wanted to know if my front cover follows the convention of the rule of thirds and the
if the structure looks well organized, neat and professional and after looking at my positive results I
know I have done well which is helpful.
I feel that I have structured my contents page extremely well and in a creative and unique way so I asked
‘How well structured is my contents page?’ and everyone answered with a perfect score of 9 and 10
which is amazing feedback for me.
I asked ‘Are the images appropriate for the genre I’m representing?’ and I asked this because I wanted to
know if I used the right images for my magazine and that it clearly shows the magazine is a rap genre
too. I got everyone to say yes which is a perfect 100% and I think my images clearly showed that the
genre of my magazine was rap because I had featured rap artists which are popular.
Finally, I asked ‘How well does my article fit with the genre (rap)?’ and all my answers were around 8,9
and 10 out of 10 which is perfect feedback.
