2. A) Describe how you used secondary research
to complete this project
Internet- Most effective
• Can search up questions.
• Achieve through newspapers for past stories related
• Often online magazine have more articles than print to look at
• 100’s of layout examples
• Look at website designs
Print (magazine, news paper)-
• Good to be able to physically look at a layout, design and function of magazine
• Can annotate and highlight key information
• Cut out examples to create mood boards
Books-
• Supply useful facts and information you didn’t go looking for
• extensive information about just one subject or a range depending on the book
• Mainly factual unlike print which often written in a voice like 1st or 3rd person
3. analysis for secondary
research
Strengths Weaknesses
• Must be quoted if direct information
is used or is plagiarism
• Takes time
• Often be difficult to find exactly what
your looking for need to work around
it
• Not original
• Need to save every bit of research
used to then make bibliography
• Simple
• easy to do
• The internet has 100’s of
sources to choose from
• Base your work around similar
articles found
• As long as credited can use
quotes you may other wise not
be able to find your self
4. B) What problems did you encounter when
sourcing information for you critical debate?
• Finding pre-existing articles to base it around
• Making sure I get my facts right and using reliable sources
• I had to change my original debate as there was a lack of reachable
information
• There where not a lot of books about my chosen debate so I was
more limited to sources
Overcoming in the future
• I would chose a more broad debate subject so my research and source can be
wider then when I have gathered enough I can define a debate question
5. Describe the different types of primary
research used to complete this project.
I chose to do a focus group as my primary research
I gathered a group of 9 people, a mix of girls and boys in my audience
age group and asked them questions relating to my critical debate.
I enjoyed this method it was I got quick and very useful answers that
you could never find with secondary research. The other opinion was
to interview someone who I would target my magazine at, but this
wouldn’t give a range of responses that I want.
6. analysis for primary
research- focus group
Strengths Weaknesses
• Very time consuming
• Have to select the right people
• Need ways to record it, voice
recorder or scribe
• People chosen need to be willing to
give fairly lengthy responses
• Can go of topic easily as your dealing
with a group not an individual
• Original
• Range of responses
• Not risk of plagiarism Good
source of research
• Open your eyes to different view
point and thing you hadn’t
thought of
