WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNED FROM
YOUR AUDIENCE FEEDBACK?
EVALUATION QUESTION 3
TARGET AUDIENCE
My target audience is aged 15+. Before I chose
my target audience, I did a lot of research into
the stereotypical age of people who watch the
supernatural drama/ the programmes that I have
included on my channel and I found that it was
mainly teenagers.
TARGET AUDIENCE PROFILE pt.1
Name: Chloe Smith
Age: 17
Chloe's favourite TV programmes are The Vampire Diaries, Pretty
Little Liars and American Horror Story. She is always looking for
new TV programmes to watch as she enjoys watching TV in her
free time. She enjoys programmes that make her think and have
some mystery in them. She doesn't like comedy as much because
she doesn't find it as interesting. She doesn't have a job yet so
she can't afford to subscribe to Netflix and as most of her
favourite TV programmes are only available in America, she finds
it hard to be able to watch them.
TARGET AUDIENCE PROFILE pt.2
Name: Harry Jones
Age: 18
Harry is obsessed with watching TV programmes but as he lives in
the UK, he finds it hard to find a TV channel for the specific genre
that he loves which is supernatural. His favourite programmes are
Supernatural, The 100 and Under The Dome. He is always busy so
he misses them when they are on TV so he can only ever watch
them online, he was subscribed to Netflix but none of the TV
programmes that he liked were available on there.
QUESTIONNAIRES
1ST QUESTIONNAIRE
For the first questionnaire, I asked a group of 16-18 year olds
what TV programmes they watch. I asked male and females
because, although the supernatural genre is stereotypical
favoured by females, I wanted to include males as well. Because
of this, I decided to include the horror and drama genres as well.
1ST QUESTIONNAIRE FEEDBACK pt.1
Out of the 6 people that I gave my questionnaire to, 4 were male
and 2 were female. 4 were 17, one was 16 and one was 18. I gave
them a list of TV programmes that I was thinking of including and
asked them if there were anymore that I should include, they
said – New Girl, Jane The Virgin, The IT Crowd, The Walking Dead,
Daredevil, Arrow, Flash, Resurrection, Big Bang Theory, Smallville,
Under The Dome. However, I couldn’t include all of these as they
didn’t fit with my genres so I only included Under The Dome from
their suggestions.
1ST QUESTIONNAIRE FEEDBACK pt.2
I also asked what sort of things they would include on a TV
channel website, they said - catch up, trailers, clips, schedule,
special features about the shows e.g. timeline & synopsis,
character biography, brief summary for each episode, nice
colours, information, countdown to a new series. I included most
of this on my website. However, I didn’t include a character
biography or a brief summary for each episode as I felt like this
would have taken too much time considering it was just an extra
detail rather than a main element of the website.
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE
For the second questionnaire, I showed 4 17 year olds the home
pages of the 4 main TV channel websites and asked which one
they preferred. Two of them said BBC iPlayer, one said Demand 5
and one said ITV Player. I thought that it was interesting that no
one picked 4od. 4od has a white background and all the others
have a background (although ITV Player has changed to a white
background since I did this questionnaire). This made me think
that I should have a black background.
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE FEEDBACK pt.1
When I asked them what colours they would expect to see on a
TV channel website, they said usually black with a pop of colour
that is specific to that channel and appears throughout the
website. This is what BBC iPlayer does and also what I decided to
do for my own.
2ND QUESTIONNAIRE FEEDBACK pt.2
I also asked them what sort of time they usually watch TV as I was
wondering when to have my programmes start as channels such
as BBC Three start their programmes a little bit later as they have
a specific target audience which is similar to mine. All of them
said that they usually watch TV from around 6pm - 10pm and at
weekends they sometimes watch it after 10pm.
3RD QUESTIONNAIRE
For the third questionnaire, I asked people what they thought of
the Watershed as I thought it would be useful to me to know
what other people thought when making my schedule.
3RD QUESTIONNAIRE FEEDBACK pt.1
I gave this questionnaire to my parents as well as people my age
to get a wider age range. I asked my parents as I thought it would
be interesting to see what they were comfortable with their child
watching. 3 out of the 4 people that I asked thought that 9pm
was a suitable time for the Watershed. The one person who said
no thought that 10pm would be better as some children might
still be awake and watching TV at 9pm. I also asked my parents if
they would be okay with their child watching TV after the
Watershed and they both said yes, depending on the programme.
SUGGESTIONS
NAME IDEAS
When I was thinking of a name for my channel, I was debating
between a few different names. I decided to put a poll on my blog
to get some responses and votes.
NAME IDEAS
I also asked the people in my Media Group for name ideas for my TV
programmes. This was helpful as I actually ended up using names that they
suggested.
