From a survey about soap operas, the following key points were found: 1) Hollyoaks was considered the most relatable soap opera for ages 17-21 due to its focus on teen-oriented themes. 2) The top interests in soap opera storylines were conflict and romance. 3) Viewers preferred a strong female lead character and multiple concurrent storylines rather than just one. 4) The target audience was identified as female adults and teens.

2. From the first question I wanted to find out whether the people that answered my
questionnaire watched soap operas or whether they would be an outside opinion.
The people that have answered the questionnaire are a mixed range of people which
would give me a variety of different opinions from both loyal fans and people who I
would be trying to convince to watch which would give me the best answer and
inform me on what viewers will want to see.

which soap opera is most

have asked so I could get
an idea of the main
influence for my own
trailer. The only to that
were chosen were
Hollyoaks and Eastenders
but Hollyoaks came out
more popular since they
focus on more relatable
topics for the age range
that was asked which is
between the ages of 17-21.
This would be the case
since the themes that are
focused on are very teen
orientated and are not
dramas and problems that
adults would be
interested in watching.

4. In this question I wanted to find out the main topics and themes that the viewers
would be interested in watching. The main two are conflict and romance which is
also a major part of soap operas so it shows what people are interested in watching.
I will use this in my own trailer and combine the two so that it fulfills everyone's
expectations.

5. I wanted to find out who people prefer the soap to be based around and what sort of
main character the viewers would be more interested in watching allowing them to
escape into the soap and experience the soap opera life with the character. From this
I found out that the majority of people want to watch a strong female role that will
be able to take charge and control the situation.

6. From this question I wanted to find out whether people would prefer to
watch a soap opera with just one storyline or one with quite a few.
Everyone in the survey answered in favor of the multi-stranded which
suggests the idea that it would be quite boring to watch only one storyline
throughout the whole series or episode.

7. From this question I wanted to find out what age range and gender the respondents
feel would be most interested in the soap opera. This would help me to base my trailer
around the main audience which would be a female adult or teen. This means that my
trailer will have to include different techniques to focus on this audience use the
results form previous questions to make it more appealing to the female audience

8. From this question I wanted to find
out how to attract more male viewers
since soap operas are very heavily
female based audience. I want to do
this to gather a more varied audience
type and try to encourage male
viewers to continue to watch the show.
The most popular responses seem to
be attractive women to create a ‘male
gaze’ but also to have a more
dominant male that stands out and
takes control of many situations

9. From this question I wanted to get an idea of what time would be preferable for a
new soap opera and when people would be most likely to watch a new show. I
found out that the majority of people will want to watch the show at 7pm which
would be the showing just before e=Eastenders which is another popular soap
opera

wanted to find out
what sort of things
should be included in
the trailer. I received a
range of responses the
two most popular
were fast paced and
dramatic. From this I
will make my trailer
very action packed
and have a very
dramatic atmosphere.
I will also include the
other options that are
available since they
are all quite popular
apart form the option
of no music which
suggests that
everyone wants a
song to be played.
