QUESTION 3:
WHAT HAVE
YOU LEARNT
FROM YOUR
AUDIENCE
FEEDBACK?
Introduction In this presentation I'm going to be
discussing the variety of audience
feedback we gained about our music
video. To gain a lot of our audience
feedback we used SurveyMonkey, Social
Media and YouTube analytics to gain this
feedback.
Poll
Question 1
On Survey Monkey a poll asking ten
questions to my audience about the music
video that me and my group member
created. To the left is the first question we
asked, which was ‘What was your favourite
part of the music video?’. In our music video
we tried to have an equal mix of each section,
to keep it as entertaining as possible so the
audience would keep watching it till the end.
As you can see this result had a complete tie
as the results were the same between. The
lip-syncing, narrative and the connection
between all three being the audiences art.
Through this it tells me that we succeeded at
making our music video entertaining
throughout as we had a equal balance in our
music video.
Poll
Question 2
In the second question we asked ‘Did you feel
there was to much use of the band?’ through
my research I found that in pop/rock music
videos that the conventions are that the
narrative is in short parts in the video and
should revolve around the footage. The main
point of this question was to know was if our
audience liked that we stuck to the
conventions, and as you can see from the
results the viewers, 72% of them liked that
we stuck to the conventions and used a lot of
band footage, this showed me that following
the conventions was a good idea. However,
there was a small minority of 17% believed
that we used to much band footage, through
this feedback it tells us we could remove
some footage of the band to make the story
a bit clearer.
Poll
Question 3
Here is the third question we asked ‘Did you
think the there should be more of the story
line in the video?’ . From a previous question
we know that our audience liked our storyline
in our music video, in the video we tried to fit
the storyline around the band footage. From
this research I found that half of our audience
thought we used enough storyline footage,
which show me that the audience
understood the storyline with the amount of
footage we had. On the other hand, nearly a
quarter of the people who voted thought
there was not enough footage of the band
and to much storyline footage. This tell me
that some of our audience enjoyed the band
footage over the story footage and wanted
to see more footage.
Poll
Question 4
In the firth question we asked ‘Did it link to the
genre of a pop rock music video?’. From our
research we found that we should use more band
footage than narrative if we were to keep to the
correct conventions of our genre. We focused on
the lead singer, keeping the story serious and
having the appropriate key lighting to match the
song. From the results it shows me that we used
the correct conventions as 78% percent of the
voters said yes to this question. I feel that we had a
serious story that our audience could relate to and
I feel we used the right approach by using more
band footage instead of narrative footage and we
feel that the lighting we used complemented our
narrative. On the other hand, 22% percent of the
voter felt that our video didn’t link to the genre
and didn’t follow the conventions, this could be
because we either focused to much on the band or
we focused on all member of the band not just the
lead singer.
Poll
Question 5
‘Did you like the editing of the music video?’.This
was the fifth question within our poll. I believe this
is a very important question because it shows us if
our music video flowed well and that the story
makes sense.
Within music video it is very important that the
transitions are smooth and effective and that the
audience could see the link between the band
footage and the story. We wanted to create the
feeling that makes the audience feeling like that
bad is watching over the characters in the story
through the lyrics in the song. From the results we
found that a lot of our audience found that they
liked the editing choices we made for our music
video.Thorough this is shows me that the
audience understood the idea we was trying to put
across which is good. However, small group of our
audience didn’t like the editing and some of them
were not sure. This could be that they didn’t like
the effects we used such as the fades and feel we
should have used different ones that are more
entertaining.
Poll
Question 6
Next, the sixth question we asked was ‘Did you
understand the storyline?’. This is another
important question because the storyline is
probably the most important part of our music
video. Because of this we tried to make the
storyline as clear as possible but this was a little
difficult as by following the conventions we used
more band footage. The large majority of our
audience understood the story which is really
good and shows us that we did very well and
delivered the story well as people got the message
we wanted them to get. Furthermore, 34% of our
audience said they understood or that they didn’t
understand it at all, I would have liked the number
of people to be smaller but it shows me that we
could have worked on some parts to make it
clearer or we could have sacrificed band footage
for more storyline footage but this would have
gone against the conventions.
Poll
Question 7
For question 7 we wanted to know ‘Did you
Like the use of props?’ within the music
video. In our music we used a lots of props to
show the different emotions and
personalities of the characters.The
percentage of the people who liked the use
of the props we used was 67% this shows
that the props we used added to there
enjoyment of the music video and the
storyline and this show me we used the props
correctly. Additionally, 33% of our audience
either wasn’t sure if they like the use of the
props or just didn’t like the use of the props
all together, this tells me that we could have
either used more props to show the emotions
of the characters or used less but we cant
make all of our audience happy and I feel that
a good amount of our audience was happy
with the amount of props we used.
Poll
Question 8
The eight question we asked our audience
was ‘Was the lip-syncing times well?’.
When editing we tried our very best to get
the lip-syncing as accurate to the song as
possible. After all the effort we put into
making sure the lip-syncing was on point it
was a massive relieve to see that our
audience agreed with us which means we
edited our music very well. However, there
was a small group of our audience didn’t
think that was the lip-syncing was timed
well, even though this is a small group we
will take this criticism on board and we
could work on it more and double check
that the lip-syncing was in time.
Poll
Question 9
Question 9 was the final question and it was
‘What would you rate the music video out of
10?’.This is the most important question as it
gave us the main piece of information and we
got to see if our audience rated the video
overall. We received a very positive rating of
95% of our audience liked the music video we
created. I can see from this result that our
audience loved our music video. On the other
hand there was a small amount of our
audience thought that improvements could
be made but none of our audience hated it
which is very good. From this feedback I
learnt that the audience liked the use of our
story and they felt that the editing was
edited very well. But we could have improved
the music video by adding more storyline to
make it clearer and this would make the
music video more enjoyable.
YouTube
Feedback
As well as Survey Monkey we also usedYouTube as a
source of feedback.YouTube is able to provide
statistics such as the amount of the views our music
video got. From the statistics we can see that over
three hundred people watched the music video and
spent over 600 minutes watching it.This show that
the people who watched must have found it
enjoyable as the average amount of minutes that
people watched the music video were 2.06 minutes.
This could also show that people got bored when
watching the video, which shows us we need to make
the music video more interesting and engaging. From
looking at our statistics it shows us that 92% of the
views of our music video were from the UK but we did
have some viewers from Romania, Finland, USA and
even Mexico. From this we can see that our music
video was widely viewed in may countries. Lastly, the
statistics showed us that most of our views, 74% were
from a male audience which is nearly three quarters
of the views this shows us that we need to make our
music video more engaging for a female audience. To
conclude the people who viewed our music video on
YouTube liked it, but we could make it a bit more
engaging so people watch it all the way through.
